Thursday Jam: Joe Bonamassa, “Different Shades of Blue”

Fat tone

I’ve been coding all day. PHP. Javascript. Linux shell scripts. MySQL. I’ve covered the waterfront. And registered LGF folks can now save their Donald Trump Bumper Stickers directly to their LGF Image Library.

And now I feel like some Joe Bonamassa, with a classic sweet Les Paul tone.

This is from his recent album “Different Shades of Blue,” and you can buy this great record at Amazon and iTunes.

De Kolta Chair’s Book of the Month Club Pick:

Superbly researched, deeply thought about and very nicely written. Not just for show biz freaks; it’s pert near about a century of this wacky world, especially the USA’s corner of it. The best thing is absolutely no interest in golf is required.

I took the family to see “Sing Street” last weekend. I suffer from “middle-aged-male lachrymosity syndrome” so it’s no surprise that I cried through the whole bloody thing. Those of a certain age who were young in the 1980s might experience the same. Highly recommended.

Most libertarians are idiots, because they aren’t now and never will be among the plutocrats that would rule in libertopia.

People like Peter Thiel and the Koch brothers aren’t this kind of idiot. These plutocrats simply want to rule, as absolutely as Louis XIV if possible. Funding libertarianism is an attempt to realize that ambition.

Right. They just want the freedom from ethical (“common good”) constraint that libertarianism promises.

How do you come up with your ideas?
The best ideas come in the form of ‘vertical thinking.’ That is, like a bolt out of the blue. Horizontal thinking can also produce ideas, but usually that method means a lot of time working out the metaphor. I’m currently working on a book of metaphors that will target writers and artists. It will help people come up with original ideas by rethinking and recombining clichés.

Paul’s instructions to the Corinthians were actually quite progressive for the times, in that he encouraged women to query their husbands at home and to learn. He only instructed them to be silent during public church meetings, to avoid disruption and controversy. The whole “submit to your husband” thing… Ugh, I won’t even start with that. Theological dissertations have been written on that topic.

Now this wasn’t the U District or Fremont in Seattle (both places I’ve lived), just East Hill in Kent, but hardly a right-wing hotbed. I was seriously amazed.

re: #104 Kragar

Chuck is one sick mother fucker.

All true, but he does have a certain amount of talent and certainly some ambition. I suggest we keep our eye on him. Who knows, he might eventually work his way up to head trusty at FEMA camp.

I don’t want to say that I don’t like sympathetic villains like Kylo…hell, I’m sure I’ve been one in someone’s sick fantasy…but what made the first Star Wars great was the relatively clear cut “good guy vs bad guy” structure. I was 11 or 12. Kids my age, college students, parents all hissed when Darth showed up and cheered for the rebels when they scored a hit.

But this is the Game of Thrones era, in which, except for monsters like Ramsey or Jeoffrey, we can feel sympathy for almost anyone, even Cersei.

Maybe that’s better. We elected Reagan shortly thereafter based on the kind of Manichean worldview (and then Bush II in the same way) I am ascribing (because it’s based on a child’s memory) to the first Star Wars.

Gohmert! rates his own private car on the GOP crazy train. Note that he offers a version of Pascal’s wager as well.

Oh, come on now! Nobody but NOBODY would even THINK to ask Bernie about the failure of Socialism in other countries, so he doesn’t need to be prepared to explain the difference between those and what he’s proposing, or explain why the things that caused them to fail don’t apply.
