I’m glad Jon got under Hannity’s skin. Hannity constantly whined about how Stewart was “biased” to Obama and the left but Stewart actually did criticize them. OTOH, Sean can’t get his head out of Trump’s asshole.

16
lawhawk  Jul 23, 2016 • 6:24:27pm

Hey look. SQUIRREL!

That’s the Trump approach. Don’t bother addressing anything substantive. Trump’s more interested in that he got applause (which sounded kinda lackluster at times and there were a few WTF moments from the crowd too).

This isn’t about applause lines, it’s about first to 270. That’s what the race is about.

Trump thinks the path to 270 is about applause time.

Everyone else who has ever run for elected office knows differently. Everyone else who has ever run for president as a major party candidate knows differently.

Trump doesn’t care about any of that.

That’s the scariest thing of all.

17
SteveMcGaziBolaGate RN  Jul 23, 2016 • 6:24:31pm

If 33% of the speech was applause, that also means that 33% of the speech was dead air.

Bit o’ theatre trivia: Tennessee Williams was often asked what happened to Blanche DuBois after she was so dramatically taken away to the sanatorium, and I always loved his reply (which few wanted to hear because it was way too optimistic) that Blanche got some much needed chill-out time and eventually went back to teaching. As someone with his fair share of familial mental illness, I think that’s the bee’s knees.

Thanks for listening. I’ve often relied upon the comfort of lizards.

It’s less about what the term actually means at any one point as it is the general attitude of the kind of person who uses it. It’s used to mean everything from ‘beta male’ to ‘race traitor’, ‘SJW’, ‘feminist’, or just generally anyone who tolerates all the wrong people and doesn’t keep women in their proper place. Considering what the original term ‘cuckold’ means and its normalized use regarding porn, only thing I can think of is how it got used the way it does is basically using it to imply that said ‘cuck’ would be ok letting one of THOSE people fuck their girlfriend without daring to fight back.

It’s a disturbing fucking adopted term all around.

The checkbox to auto-get new comments isn’t what I think was causing our IT department to tell my boss that there was “excessive” network activity on our corporate network from LGF, because I never have that checked while at work; I think it’s the auto-refresh script for the comment counter that’s causing my issues.

Right now, to stay under IT’s radar, I’m having to stay logged out at work (because the comment counter doesn’t auto-update unless you’re logged in), unless I’m making a comment, then I’m logging right back out; it’s a major PITA.

You missed Charles’ comment from earlier today about how he actually introduced the option to turn off the auto-refresh script for that. Wow. From the article:

“Then there’s Paul Manafort, Trump’s nominal ‘campaign chair’ who now functions as campaign manager and top advisor. Manafort spent most of the last decade as top campaign and communications advisor for Viktor Yanukovych, the pro-Russian Ukrainian Prime Minister and then President whose ouster in 2014 led to the on-going crisis and proxy war in Ukraine. Yanukovych was and remains a close Putin ally. Manafort is running Trump’s campaign.”

More:

“The Trump Camp was totally indifferent to the platform. So party activists were able to write one of the most conservative platforms in history. Not with Trump’s backing but because he simply didn’t care. With one big exception: Trump’s team mobilized the nominee’s traditional mix of cajoling and strong-arming on one point: changing the party platform on assistance to Ukraine against Russian military operations in eastern Ukraine. For what it’s worth (and it’s not worth much) I am quite skeptical of most Republicans call for aggressively arming Ukraine to resist Russian aggression. But the single-mindedness of this focus on this one issue - in the context of total indifference to everything else in the platform - speaks volumes.”

Vacant prison jobs help drive state OT to $64.5 million

The overtime paid to state workers rose by 12% last year to a level not seen for at least a decade, a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel analysis has found.

The sharp increase in overtime wages suggests that Gov. Scott Walker’s Act 10 repeal of most collective bargaining is no longer holding down those costs the way it did several years ago.

The state paid $64.5 million in overtime in 2015 to corrections, health and other state workers, up nearly one-third from a low of $49.4 million in 2012.

Sean Daley, a longtime prison workers representative for Council 32 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, isn’t surprised. He said many officers are now being required to work back-to-back shifts, or 16 hours in all, for two or more times in a week.
