“TruNews” and White Supremacist Chuck C. Johnson Attempt Smear of John McCain, Nobody Cares

Far right creeps recycling the same old slime
Wingnuts • Views: 42,725

YouTube

Wonkette’s Doktor Zoom has a great piece of mockery on the latest ridiculous and stupid attempt to paint Senator John McCain as a “traitor,” just in time for the Arizona primary election, oddly enough: ‘Oath Keepers’ Militia Loons Pretty Sure John McCain Needs To Be Executed For Being Tortured.

(Notice how these geniuses manage to misspell the word “propaganda” in their flashy YouTube video title. It’s OK, their audience doesn’t care.)

It’s not entirely clear when the recording obtained by rightwing website “Trunews” was made — presumably around the same time as the written confession — but it was broadcast by North Vietnamese radio in 1969 and recorded by the “the Foreign Broadcast Information Service, a branch of the CIA that monitored international shortwave and foreign radio broadcasts,” according to Trunews. “Award-winning journalist” and all around slimeball Chuck C. Johnson offered a $10,000 “bounty” for a copy of the recording, which some lucky person somehow located in the National Archives and then somehow copied or filched it. Trunews is actually rather vague about how the recording came to be acquired by them, saying only that “The audio recording was found in a misplaced file in the National Archives in Washington, D.C.” — no mention of a FOIA request there, oddly, so the circumstances of its acquisition are open to speculation.

So gosh, what juicy national security secrets did John McCain spill in the statement, in which he clearly betrayed his country and committed treason, for which he must be executed, according to the Oath Keepers morons? Absolutely nothing: it’s bog standard forced-confession propaganda bullshit that would sound like cartoonishly ridiculous Cold War boilerplate if you didn’t know it was extracted under torture…

I’m not a fan of John McCain, but he’s no traitor.

This is a bag of slime that’s been circulating in the extreme right fever swamps for many years, but the reason why they’re all worked up about something nobody else cares about is because our old cyberstalker pal Chuck C. Johnson apparently paid someone (or so he says) who found an audio recording of McCain’s propaganda broadcast (obtained under torture and threat of death) in the National Archives.

Note that accessing the National Archives is completely free and you’re allowed to make copies of their material. So if Chuck C. Johnson and Pax Dickinson actually paid someone thousands of dollars for that recording, they shelled out a whole lot of money for the equivalent of a library book.

Of course, there’s no way to know if that whole wesearchr thing is a scam, anyway. But if they actually did raise $10,000, some gullible loons got bilked, big time, and Chuck and Pax got a nice payday.

Damnit, man, why do they have to ruin my plans to toast McCain’s forced retirement with a frosty bottle of schadenfreude?!

I really, really hope that moderate Republicans like Kirk and Collins running away from Trump works as well for them as running away from Obama did for Allison Lundergan Grimes in KY two years ago.

I’m sure they’re decent people (especially Collins), and it’s not their fault that their party went off the rails, but…

I don’t want to hear sh*t from Collins after she’s voted for almost everything GOPers in the Senate have proposed. Also, I didn’t hear her say anything as the GOP became the party of extremist politicians and supporters. The fact that she was too cowardly to speak out against them shows me she’s no moderate.

“…With his blue tie loosened and slung over his shoulder, Trump sits back to digest his meal and provide a running byplay to the news. Onscreen, they’ve cut away to a spot with Scott Walker, the creaky-robot governor of Wisconsin. Praised by the anchor for his “slow but steady” style, Walker is about to respond when Trump chimes in, “Yeah, he’s slow, all right! That’s what we got already: slowwww.” His staffers at the conference table howl and hoot; their man, though, is just getting warm. When the anchor throws to Carly Fiorina for her reaction to Trump’s momentum, Trump’s expression sours in schoolboy disgust as the camera bores in on Fiorina. “Look at that face!” he cries. “Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!” The laughter grows halting and faint behind him. “I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not s’posedta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”

Susan Collins was apparently fine with it then, but she sees which way the wind blows.

>>and it’s not their fault that their party went off the rails<<

Wait, what? I get that she is a moderate but has she not been a senior member of this party for what, 10, 15 years? It’s not like Trumpism developed over night, go back to Nixon’s Southern Strategy and work your way up to now, with the dog whistling racism from the 80’s on through Obama’s administration. Take every vote that strengthened the corporate grip and transferred wealth from the middle class on up, that deregulated banking, that helped in opening the political process to back room money, that disenfranchised women and minorities.

The Trumpalos are nuts, no doubt, their lot in life sucks and they chose to blame some form of Hegel’s other than take responsibility for it. But take away the bigotry, racism, nationalism and their complaints are the same as the Sandinistas, the political class of this country no longer (if they ever did) have the interest of the average person in mind.

But Collins was part and parcel of the system that fomented the rise of a populist narcisstic authoritarian. If only by being passive in not trying to being about change in the party that defines her very being. Whatever damage to the GOP that comes of this, Collins included, it is of their own doing and they deserve what they get. And history shall treat them harshly for it.

The people coming out against Trump now basically sat on the sidelines the last 7 years as their “Party” shit all over the sitting President. And said…..Nothing. They also said nothing as their “Party” spent time and money, (our money BTW) trying to undo, unfund, void, make null and destroy just about every social program or service that protects or helps people. Now that a veritable nightmare has the reins of their “Party” they seem concerned because, gee, maybe they could get fucked? Or the world? They built that stage and were damn proud to stand on it and use it to piss all over everything as they wrapped themselves in star spangled hypocrisy. Now there is concern. Now. Ted Cruz. Marco Rubio. Ben Freaking Carson. Newt Gingrich. I could sit here forever. Sarah? Huckabee? JFC. Now. Concern. I hope your “Party” goes down in a flaming screaming trainwreck that takes your “Party” to the bottom for decades. Until you find some actual decency. Her other nominees were no better than Trump. Remember that. They just got out sleazed trying to sell sleaze. Clutching of pearls. My. Such concern. Any of the other Party Of Personal And Governmental Responsibility candidates would hold the United States Supreme Court in their greasy little hands.Remember that.

Hi gang,

I fully get your criticism of Sen. Collins’ record — and she deserves every last bit of it — but these days I am so livid that Trump is this close to the Oval Office, I have to fall back to the famous quote by Winston Churchill:

And now some of the foreign policy “wonks” are saying that Trump can’t become president because of his statements/character. That’s some serious profiles in courage. Waiting until now? He was never a credible candidate. He always lacked the character and judgment. He always ran off at the mouth and was unstable, irritable, and impulsive. Those are all awful characteristics for being president. He’s got the trifecta.

But like the rest of the GOP, they refused to criticize too harshly or else lose votes they need to win.

That’s too much self awareness for Republicans. Their main issue with Trump is simply that he’s likely to lose. All would be forgiven if he looked to be winning in November.

Secondary issues for Republicans are foreign policy madness (Trump with the nuclear codes) and deviations from conservative orthodoxy.

It’s a day ending in ‘y’, so fuck the GOP with a rusty trowel for inflicting Assblaster Thunderfart on the nation as their nominee.

Something to think about: While we all know that Trump’s policies and views are no different than other Republicans, does anyone here actually think a Trump presidency would be the same as a Kasich presidency? While I don’t like Kasich, I don’t get the feeling he’d tweet pictures of his finger hovering millimeters above the red button (and yes, I know it doesn’t work exactly like that, but it’s a pretty good metaphor).

Worse—Kasich would desimate women’s rights, workers’ rights, etc. while setting up his own little fiefdom while hiding his nasty, vindictive personality under his “moderate” veneer. (Can you tell I just love the guy?)

The best point I saw in the primary is “Trump wants to do a lot of right wing shit, Cruz has voted for it, and Kasich has actually implemented it.” Even with that though, Kasich by far would have been the most difficult of the three since he unlike the other two can portray himself like a caring person even while signing into law restrictions on choice, being the plaintiff in the case that overturned all state bans on SSM, and being an all around asshole.

I don’t want Kasich near the White House. But, as EPR-radar #65 pointed out, Trump feels like an existential threat and not just a “going to shit for 40 years” kind of thing. I realize for those of us who won’t live another 40 years, that may not be much of a difference, but Trump just feels different.

My middle son was young (maybe 1.5 - 2 years). With kids that little you do anything to keep them occupied and happy. It had been bath time and I was sticking one of the suction-cup bath toys to my forehead and he was laughing his ass off. This went on for a little while after the bath too because he found it hilarious. I put him to bed and the wife came home from work. She mentioned that I had a red mark on my forehead and I told her about the fun and games. We went to bed. I got up for work the next morning and went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror. I had a deep red 2.5” diameter circle on my forehead. Had some explaining to do that morning at work.

It really is one thing to believe guns save lives, it’s quite another to actually want to punish businesses for choosing not to allow guns on their premises. I really am so sick and tired of the Republican party’s disgusting gun fetish. THANK YOU! Dixon really is a good guy.

The whole thing with Tim Scott is kind of weird, in that his Dem opponent in every race has been black, so the GOP gang has never had to choose between a white Dem and a black Rep. In fact, his first race for Rep is the one that is most interesting.

That was the year that the big primary story (the one the media latched onto) was the one where Alvin Green won the Dem Senate primary and the media was off to the races. But, to my mind at least, the Dem primary for the House seat was much weirder—the guy who won had lost about 19 times before, didn’t even really live in SC, had no website (his only facebook page had his name spelled wrong) and the #s he posted in the primary compared to those he got two years earlier were totally unbelievable. I certainly didn’t believe them! We did a precinct by precinct comparison, and decided that there were definitely shenanigans somewhere. I remember reading about Alvin Green an dthinking that was just as weird as got it. Hopefully this is a tight race. Hopefully Dixon surprises. Ya never know. We thought Mark Warner was a shoe in for re-election here two years ago but former RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie gave him a legitimate challenge and he’s sure to run for office again based off the strength of that run. Hopefully, it was just a fluke based on low turnout.

What’s going to happen here in Va I imagine is if Clinton-Kaine wins. Bobby Scott, an African-American who represents Richmond and is the most Senior Dem or may in fact be the most Senior Virginia Congressional member will run. They had him introduce Kaine for a reason IMO. Lt. Governor Northam is going to run. Our governors are term limited so McAuliffe isn’t going to run again. Northam is pretty interesting. He’s a doctor, veteran, and unlike Kaine and Warner, a Virginia native.

re: #137 Lidane

Well, shit. A guy I know that’s normally intelligent (we were in the same MBA program) is buying into that ” Hillary’s medical records!” garbage.

Is it November yet?

We’re dealing with the same shit though I haven’t seen that posted yet. Do people even look at what they post? I mean I’m sorry but if something’s making extraordinary claims, I’m going to want to verify its accuracy before posting it on my Facebook or Twitter because I don’t want to make an ass out of myself.

Senator LePage sounds good, right?

I’d rather Senator Lepatomane. At least he wasn’t a dick. An idiot and tool of Hedley, not Hedy LaMarr but at least not a jerk.

I imagine in ‘18 she’ll receive a serious challenge from the right. The right isn’t going to forgive the people who ran away from Trump.

I think that means her next Senate run would be in 2020. Against Hillary’s re-election campaign in a bright blue state.

Oops yeah it would be 2020. I had a brainfart there. Honestly in that case, I think the same would happen but it would backfire against them. Who knows though, she may just retire though.

Don’t know why but I’m thinking Hillary only wants 1 term. I also think the GOP that survives Trump may not be so far to the right & moderate Collins will be needed to to keep that bright blue state.

And to continue the rambling thoughts I will never understand why ANY woman thinks the GOP is a party they should represent.

Worse—Kasich would desimate women’s rights, workers’ rights, etc. while setting up his own little fiefdom while hiding his nasty, vindictive personality under his “moderate” veneer. (Can you tell I just love the guy?)

That is why I’m glad the GOP nominated Trump. I think Clinton will be a very effective President. But I also recognize that she is a vulnerable candidate, and a Kasich or a Rubio might very well have defeated her, with all the disastrous consequences a government united under GOP control would entail.

I am glad they nominated Trump if only for the country to see what I’ve felt about the GOP for years.

I think the internet is great. Without it, we might not have found out that Trump might’ve donated to NAMBLA.

Well, a lot of people are saying…

I thought Trump had “pivoted” away from slamming Khan. Not sure how investigating a Gold Star parent helps Trump move up in the polls. Hannity is not that bright and doesn’t understand how offensive this behavior is to the majority of Anericans.

Hannity doesn’t care; he’s feeding red meat to the troglodytes who watch or listen to his show.

Charles not only are those records fake, but disclosing them is a clear violation of HIPPA!

re: #114 EPR-radar

The lying RWNJs that came up with this are too stupid to be convincing liars. The medical workup for someone presenting with seizures isn’t going to be this nonsense (which amounts to take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning).

Where’s the EEG, EKG, imaging etc.?

Yup. I have epilepsy (it ended my Navy career at seventeen years). The examination wasn’t just written up as a two-page summary: There were months of tests and exams before the Navy settled on that diagnosis, and in the years since the VA has added more information to specify exactly what the problem is.

I would think the physician in question here has a good case to make a crime was committed against her. (I am not sure if HIPPA would apply because the “diagnosis” is fake, but the crime of forgery might apply.)
