That said, I’m not sure what we could do to North Korea. About the only nation that has any significant pull with North Korea is China.

Well, let’s be fair. Use of VX nerve agent in public takes a fairly hefty pair of cojones. Sometimes they admit it when they talk about pissing off liberals. I don’t favor the policies I do because they piss off conservatives, I think they’re what’s best for the country and it honestly frustrates me that many conservatives can’t see why they’re good policies i.e. the Fiduciary Rule I’ve written about for work or Obama’s overtime EO.

Reminder, the first US armed forces member killed in Iraq was an undocumented immigrant. My distant cousin who died on Iwo Jima enlisted in the USMC while “American heroes” Lucky Lindy and Henry Ford were accusing Allied sympathizers of provoking war with poor Hitler was an immigrant too.

Right — what Furby (and Bannon and Miller) want is to knock everything down so they can create their Thousand-Year Reich. Trump and a lot of money Republicans figure no law means they can heist all the money and property they want, with no one able to stop them.
They never stop to think that anarchy works both ways.

Oh, don’t get mw wrong, I love Lebowski but everyone does. Lebowski has my pick for anyone to play my Dad in a film in Bridges, and also Goodman, Buscemi, and Turturro. Also Flea!
Hey—my favorite Coen brothers movie is “Burn After Reading.”

CIA Officer: Yes, sir, it’s, uh, hard to say
CIA Superior: Jesus Fucking Christ.
JK Simmons for the win.

There’s going to be so much disruption and so many consequences that folks haven’t anticipated. Sure, the evil Steve’s think they can capitalize off of all of it, but this country is too big and diverse for them to wrangle it all. The cluster will fuck them eventually.

Another great character actor. Speaking of great character actors, they should work with Sam Rockwell. I’ve liked that guy ever since Green Mile.
Coen brothers, you say? Blood Simple is devilishly wicked. Raising Arizona is funny as hell. Fargo should have won Best Picture. Burn After Reading is weird enough to be crazy. The Big Lebowski is an entity unto itself. No Country For Old Men has IMO one of the very best depictions of pure evil on film. Shit, their filmography is pretty goddamned impressive if I say so myself.
In my dreams, I’d love to see Malcolm put the fear of dog in Clarke.

re: #120 BeachDem
Trump said on Bill O’Reilly’s Fox News show on Aug. 22 that he’d met the mysterious supercop in Chicago and that he “believed him 100 percent” when the cop said he could stop serious crime within seven days by getting tough.
and of course:
White House officials did not respond Wednesday morning to questions about who the officer is, whether Trump still maintains he has shared his name with Chicago officials, or whether Trump remains in contact with the officer, if he in fact exists.
7 days = martial law & mass arrests.

Oh yes, No Country For Old Men is another great one. I think that was so many people’s introduction to Javier Bardem. I really liked Josh Brolin in that oto. Don’t know what their next project is going to be but I’m sure it will be entertaining.
re: #132 calochortus
You have to wonder about all these people out there who claim they can end serious crime in a week, stop war, end disease, or whatever. Why don’t they just do a simple demo somewhere? It seems cruel to know all the answers and not share them…
Yeah—like Nixon’s secret plan to end Vietnam…and John McCain’s secret plan to get Bin Laden.
I iike the McDonagh brothers too, unlike the Coens, they direct their projects separately but they have the same dark humor, good soundtracks that the Coens offer. In Bruges is probably my favorite comedy ever. The Guard was also fun as was Seven Psychopaths. The one brother was actually a playwright before going into film.

It’s kinda true, actually. We have so many Canadian quarters - and if you don’t actually look at them, they are indistinguishable from US quarters - that we really don’t notice or care.

Tonight’s simple plan is that my brother will be dropping by shortly for a glass of wine and some Republican-bashing, so I’m out for the rest of the evening.
Hasta mañana, Lizards.

Yep. Canadian quarters and pennies aren’t uncommon here. You have to be aware of the quarters so that you don’t use them in a vending machine or parking meter.
re: #97 HappyWarrior
Oh and calling a guy a pussy because he felt some tension using a gun is fucking chicken shit. There are real vets who get tense holding guns. Are they cowards too? Just because you don’t like holding a gun doesn’t make you any less of a man.
Yup. I own a gun, am a vet, and really don’t like holding it. That does not make me a coward: It means I respect the great damage a shotgun can do if I misuse it.

Of course, most parking meters downtown (both Mpls and St. Paul) are the new-fangled electronic type where you pay at the kiosk, instead of the old coin-operated type.

So. I see the headlines about Comey rebuffing the Trump administration’s request to squash any Russian investigation. Yeah. That’s bad. And Comey comes out looking like a good guy.
But does anyone else think the Trump administration had to even ask him? Comey won’t do shit. And it will be his decision.

I visited my brother for the 4th of July; he was stationed in N.D. We camped out and about froze to death; temperature was in the fifties and a cold rain was falling.

That’s actually kind of unusual for us. The last few years, the 4th of July has been north of 90 degrees. The last time I went to the parade with the Mrs. Fish’s family, I believe it was near to 100.

I’d like to sell you my snowblower. I bought it 2.5 years ago after a couple of bad winters and I haven’t even put gas in it yet (I’ll just hand shovel anything under 6”). I called up a local repair place to find out what I should do and they told me that keeping the tank dry until I actually use it is best for the engine.

This is why I run mine down after every winter. Which I will be doing, sometime in April…

I hate those. You have to walk half a block to feed the meter and if I don’t write my parking space number down, I’ll forget it by the time I get to the machine (memory is the second thing to go…). You can still plug quarters into the meters in St. Paul.
Speaking of military people and Trump, these three guys — though I question some of their decisions — may be the only thing keeping Trump & Co from going full-bore fascist state on us.
Trump respects military men, so he would probably listen to them more than say, Tillerson, who seems to be benched at the moment.
And a hero rises.

Around here people will reject Canadian coins.
Growing up in Michigan, I just thought they were money that you couldn’t put in vending machines (until I learned what a “Canada” was). I thought it was pretty novel the first time I went to Sault Ste. Marie and saw a vending machine with “No American Coins” on it.

No. It was stochastic terrorism (agitprop). The perpetrators are the folk spinning up right-wing hate.
