Things getting interesting.

Officials in the Trump administration on Sunday demanded that Russia stop supporting the Syrian government or face a further deterioration in its relations with the United States.

Signaling the focus of talks that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is set to have in Moscow this week, officials said that Russia, in propping up Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, bears at least partial responsibility for Wednesday’s chemical attack on villagers in Idlib province.

“I hope Russia is thinking carefully about its continued alliance with Bashar al-Assad, because every time one of these horrific attacks occurs, it draws Russia closer into some level of responsibility,” Tillerson said on ABC’s “This Week.”

Apparently, Haley and Tillerson don’t know either. They have given conflicting responses to journalists on the matter. Many on the right are pointing at the shiny object and aren’t questioning anything about why Trump decided to launch missiles at a Syrian airbase that accomplished absolutely nothing. They’re too busy praising Trump’s “courage” and “strength” and aren’t concerned about the implications of his decision. Trump needed a distraction from the Russia/Trump investigation, and he got it, but the question is, “For how long?” I don’t think his distractions will be successful over time in making the Trump/Russia investigations go away. I remember Nixon & Co. trying to make Watergate go away, but their illegal deeds caught up to them in the end.

He’s probably trying to charm her, but he doesn’t know who/what Ms. Pelosi is. She’ll smile in his face, make him feel comfortable, and will always have her political shiv ready to use to stab him in the back because she knows Trump’s #1 concern is for Trump and not the American people. Leader Pelosi shares what I call a “southern trait,” in that she can be cordial toward those with whom she disagrees but recognize she’s dealing with a rattlesnake at the same time. Trump and his supporters shouldn’t let the expression on her face in this photo fool them. She’s not the fool or the dupe Trump might be thinking she is. She has way more political experience than he does, and she’s smarter than he is.

They may not pay, legally speaking, due to reasons you mentioned, but I’m hoping they’ll pay politically, sooner rather than later. I know Sessions, the GOPers in Congress and the conservative-majority SCOTUS are more loyal to the GOP than they are to the nation and its citizens, but I remain hopeful that more Americans will become aware of their corruption and party over nation loyalty and help us send some in Congress, Trump, and Sessions, into early retirement. A girl can hope, can’t she?

We’re not just talking people who got health insurance because of Medicaid expansion.
We’re talking people who were previously uninsurable because of previous conditions and premiums were ridiculously expensive.
We’re talking entrepreneurs who took that huge leap of faith and quit their deadend jobs to start their businesses because they didn’t have to stay for employer-provided health insurance that was ridiculously expensive and pretty much useless.
We’re talking small businesses that could finally provided affordable group health insurance for their employees.
We’re talking people who found themselves suddenly unemployed and anyone who has ever seen COBRA as their only option knows that is not a fiscally viable option.

It’s not just poor people that benefited from ACA, it’s a lot LOT more.

I guess that if you don’t care about people’s wellbeing, you don’t become a nurse. My mother was one. (From her tales of woe, the desperation also plays a big part.)

But statistically, most of the white nurses you work with vote Republican; I honestly don’t know how they compartmentalize. It happens, though. My boss asked me last summer if I thought the economy was improving, I said “yes,” and he looked at me like I’d grown another head.

We have a good well rounded cast of characters. One of the nurses posted a pic on her facebook page of herself with a four foot shark she caught while fishing in the surf! We had this one guy who kept kicking the window until one nurse walked in and chewed him out and he never did it again. We have a monitor tech with the sassiest PA voice. You can hear the disdain dripping out of the speakers when she has to page you a second time. Our CEO is covered with tattoos. I don’t even know where to start with the night shift. They have a 4 foot 10 inch 90 pound nurse who could probably kick my ass, but she’s such an expert with the dirty look she wouldn’t even have to. I think some of them minored in snark.

Some of the best music ever recorded is full of off key singing and mistakes.

A good example is Soft Cell’s “Say Hello, Wave Goodbye”, where Marc Almond’s singing is at points as flat as a pancake, and yet that’s an integral part of what is a genuinely beautiful heartfelt song. It’s telling that years later, when Marc had improved as a singer, he went back and re-recorded some of his old songs, years later he said he regretted doing so, because although the vocals were technically better, they lacked the feeling of the originals.

That’s not to say autotune can’t be used creatively. The reason I felt it worked in Cher’s “Believe” was it was being used sporadically as an effect against an already powerful voice that didn’t need autotune. Similarly, when it’s an integral part of the sound of an act (eg Eiffel 65) that I’m okay with that. It’s when there’s absolutely no need for it, and it’s used anyway that I find it really grating.

I’ve had a half dozen heated (and loud) with jackasses on golf courses. On public courses, you play with random people. I once got an *excellent* bounty for volunteering off an over-booked flight.

When I moved to NYC from CA, the overbooked flight was to JFK and the flight they switched me to was to Newark. I had 8 pieces of checked baggage that they delivered to my apt so I didn’t have to go through baggage claim. My seat on the new flight was first class. Plus I got a voucher for a free round-trip that I had up to six months to use.

Trump had one of those strategy sessions for his staffers to try and turn things around just 70+ days into his shitshow of an administration, and of course, all the details of what a mess things are leaked.

How could it not?

Priebus, Bannon, and Kushner are all trying to push their own identities/agendas on to a bunch of incompetents who don’t know any better, and they’re all getting pushback because they’re all incapable of realizing that they don’t have a coherent message that starts at the top.

Trump is incoherent, ignorant, and that pervades everything he does. Trump’s reactionary. The only thing that he truly reacts to is ratings and how actions inure benefits to him.

That’s why he carried out a bombing in Syria. It wasn’t the kids. It wasn’t the chemical weapons. It’s that he thought it would help boost his sagging ratings and deflect attention from the ongoing Russia scandal. That didn’t work out too well. While many in the media thought this was yet another pivot, the airstrike barely registered with Assad since the base was back up and running hours later. The successful raid barely stopped a single base for a few hours. Sweepers, man your brooms.

A few people will claim that this keeps Assad from using chemical weapons again. That assumes way too much - and ignores that Assad used them all because Trump had signaled he wasn’t going to do regime change.

So, back to this strategy session. Some involved thought it was like being in 5th grade. A few others are complaining to the media that others complained to the media that there’s no strategy and it’s all incoherence all the time.

Well, buckle up buttercups - there’s only incoherence and incompetence from Trump. That’s all he does. Luck got him the win, and we can’t assume luck will keep the nation safe from Trump and his excremental decisions. GOP owns and enables all Trump does. They haven’t stopped supporting Trump, because the shared goals remain the same.

Here’s some more details from the Louisville Courier-Journal about the forcible removal of a passenger.

Passengers were told at the gate that the flight was overbooked and United, offering $400 and a hotel stay, was looking for one volunteer to take another flight to Louisville at 3 p.m. Monday. Passengers were allowed to board the flight, Bridges said, and once the flight was filled those on the plane were told that four people needed to give up their seats to stand-by United employees that needed to be in Louisville on Monday for a flight. Passengers were told that the flight would not take off until the United crew had seats, Bridges said, and the offer was increased to $800, but no one volunteered.

Indeed. And I told them so in my tweet just now. They opened themselves up to a major lawsuit, and probably the cops will be sued separately. Doctors can usually afford good lawyers, and if he’s a local Louisville doctor, lawyers there will probably volunteer to work pro bono.

I’ve flown United across the Pacific several times. I cannot say it was an enjoyable experience, but it was not horrible either. OTOH, the American and the Hainan Airline flights I took were marginally better.

While I agree that kosher-for-Passover pizza, hot dog & hamburger buns are a bit much, Passover is in no way “easy.” I used to grind my own horseradish and gefilte fish but I appreciate some modern conveniences. BTW my grandson is spending Passover in Ethiopia where he will have to shecht his own chickens, unless he brought a case of frozen chickens from Israel.

I get there’s kitniyot- stuff that Ashkenazi don’t eat and Sephardi do, because there’s some items that may appear to be chametz and the idea is not to eat them since they may be confused.

So, why then are the food manufacturers putting together food items that mimic chametz items? How are they not kitniyot in spirit, if not in the legal stricture?

IMO, I think kitniyot is something where Ashkenazi got it wrong.

I’ve flown United across the Pacific several times. I cannot say it was an enjoyable experience, but it was not horrible either. OTOH, the American and the Hainan Airline flights I took were marginally better.

Piss on United. They lost me as a passenger.

Not to the mention the premature backslapping “total destruction” reports that fell apart almost as soon as we found out the Russians had been given advance notice of the strike and then pictures came out showing that the “destruction” had been limited.
