New From Olbermann: Why Are We Appeasing Trump?

On the same subject, this happened at today’s press conference with Sarah Huckabee Sanders; she attacked the media as “FAKE NEWS” immediately after recommending that everyone should go and watch a bogus James O’Keefe video on YouTube.

So there is video of Senator Lisa Murkowski walking with staff and a reporter asks her if somehow the Democrats and Republicans can work together on a health bill.

She stops looks up at the sky and wonders out loud something like “When did it start that we can’t work together…both sides of the aisle doling our jobs?”

Well Lisa, I suggest you do some study of history say 1980 on in your party. Pay particular attention to 2009, January. Maybe you can get Mitch McConnell to go over that with you.

Outside that, you don’t appear to be ignorant. So don’t be. You know the truth…try it out sometime.

First world problem: after installing my new cable modem, I suddenly find that I’m getting tossed out of ssh connections to remote servers after a period of inactivity, with a “packet_write_wait … broken pipe” error message.

I think I finally fixed it by editing the ~/.ssh/config file to include “ServerAliveInterval 120” for each host. This apparently causes the Mac OS Terminal to send a “no op” command every two minutes, which keeps the connection alive.

Still not totally certain it’s fixed though, because I don’t know exactly how long the inactive period was before disconnection. Knock on silicon.

It sure looks like they’ve called a full-court press. But the question is, is Hannity enough to wage a war on the press by himself, with an assist from the White House?

I don’t think he’s as powerful as he imagines himself. But I’m sure he’ll give it the old college try.

Chris Hayes asking about the defeatist attitude of those that think the GOP Health bill is a fait accompli to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York. She said she doesn’t like that and we all need to keep on it with the emails, calls, letters, go to meetings and demonstrations, to stay vigilant or they will get away with it.

I’m thinking Sarah Palin hasn’t taken a few things into consideration.

1) She’s a public figure and the standard for libel of a public figure is actual malice—a very high standard to meet.

2) Discovery is a two-way street. Depositions, too.

3) I also question whether this isn’t past the statute of limitations, since this occurred in 2011. OK, this is for something the Times said recently on its editorial page. Sue me for not knowing-I don’t subscribe to the Times.

I have not seen the pleadings, so my opinion might change, but I do remember the advertisement very well and I personally thought it was awful on Palin’s part.

Don’t have much time to get into much, but I think a good line of attack against Trump aould be to keep asking “Where are the jobs?” Those “successes” like the company in IN and Ford have proved empty. All those regulatory rollbacks are just going to make fat cats fatter and lead to no actual investment and no jobs.

I’m watching “Story of China” (PBS) hosted by Michael Wood. I generally like it—good photography, interesting stories. But over all it comes off as a bit of a gloss. Everything is “amazing,” “fantastic,” “dazzling,” “unprecedented.” We’ll how the 19th and 20th centuries do. OTOH, I’m no fan of unrelieved criticism in documentaries either.

Oops, just basically skipped the Yuan (Mongol) dynasty. Oh well.

55
lawhawk  Jun 27, 2017 • 5:59:53pm

Worst GOP argument of the day has to go to the idiot Jon Cornyn, who thinks that just because there’s about 30 million Americans who are uninsured makes Obamacare a failure.

We just have to ignore that Trumpcare adds 22-23 million to that figure. Trumpcare leaves 50-53 million without coverage.

Obamacare was successful in reducing the uninsured rate and the total number of uninsureds by a similar figure, except that Trumpcare would affect far more people and leave them with worse coverage and care than under current law.

GOP sabotage meant that the existing uninsured rate and number of uninsureds is higher than it should be had all the states expanded Medicaid coverage. Not surprisingly, GOP dominated states like Texas refused expansion and they’re the ones with the highest uninsured rates and have among the highest totals of uninsureds.

GOP has no problem with any of this, and their plan makes the existing situation far worse - mostly by expanding what happened in Texas to everyone else.

My guess is the editorial in question reference that her targets caused some controversy. She’s a typical conservative punk, loves to dish out insults but can’t take any criticism in return. And it’s telling that Hannity is talking about suing the NYT too now. I don’t want to hear conservatives lecture me about how sensitive the left is when they have whienrs like Trump, Hannity, and Palin in their midst.
