And while we’re on the subject of sexual harassment/assault, last Sunday I posted about Andy Savage, the “teaching pastor” at megachurch Highpoint Memphis. You probably remember how I said that Savage had gotten a standing ovation after he made his “confession” of a “sexual incident” to the congregation. (What actually happened according to his victim: He, aged 22 and her youth pastor, was supposed to drive her home and instead drove her down a deserted road, zipped down his pants and told her to suck his penis.)
Since then, the following has happened:
* CBS News featured his victim, Jules Woodson, on the Nightly News. cbsnews.com (sorry for autostart)
* The story was featured in newspapers all over the country, including the New York Times (nytimes.com) and the Washington Post (washingtonpost.com). Many newspapers noted the “standing ovation.”
* Savage has lost a book deal for his book “The Ridiculously Good Marriage.” The cover art featured an ice cream cone with a cherry falling on it.
* Savage was removed as a speaker from the KLOVE Christian radio station cruise.
* The executive pastor of the church, Chris Conlee, lost his book deal for “Love Works,” which is the slogan for Highpoint Church Memphis.
* Savage gave a totally softball interview to a local radio show host. In it, he described the “sexual incident” as an “organic sexual experience.” Remember, he drove her down a deserted road, zipped down his slacks and told her to suck his penis.
* Savage also announced that he would be taking a four month leave of absence while the whole thing is investigated. I’m actually glad for this, because if they do try to sneak him back in when the four months is up, it will be May and the weather will be much better!
The Memphis Commercial Appeal has another article today, and it includes a screenshot from a woman’s Facebook page, where she claims Andy Savage flirted with her, she reported it to the church leadership, and nothing was done.
Oh yeah, and the church’s Facebook is full of “blame the victim.” It may be childish, but I’ve been telling the church members they’re part of a cult and yes, Scientology also covers up child sexual abuse. *scowl*

The problem is not what the truth is, but rather that people know it.
Interestingly, one finds this even in the NeverTrump right. Tom Nichols, for example, thinks that the problem with income inequality is not that it exists, but that people have means of comparing their situation with others who are better off.
This is, of course, bullshit.

There’s no fucking way this happened the way she said it did. You have to tell Alexa to order or purchase the item and confirm the amount. You can’t just say Batman over and over again.
Now there is a valid argument that Amazon should change voice ordering to an opt-in service that needs to be enabled in the Alexa settings web page, but that’s not what Sarah is doing. She deliberately set up an extremely dishonest attack designed to harm Jeff Bezos’ net worth because he owns the Washington Post and because two days ago he created and funded a $33 million scholarship for Dreamers.

This is the deal—I work for an evil too big to fail bank. I know what would happen if, for example, a bank employee were to take home a fellow employee because their car wouldn’t start. But instead of going home, he took her to a deserted place and demanded a blow job. Not only would he lose his job, but the bank would make sure this got reported to the police. I mean, seriously, how hard is this to understand when an amoral, evil too big to fail bank knows better than this?!

Sometimes, Charles, it’s best to stick with the tried and true. Given how many so-called “religious people” are backing up Trump STILL even after this, I think the Biblical phrase “Idol Worship” works really well here. It catches what’s happening in the thinking of Trump’s followers.

re: #33 HappyWarrior
Yeah I don’t have an Echo. And if she’s going after Amazon because of the Dreamers, that shows what kind of petty person she is.
Trump has a long history of going after Bezos by targeting Amazon.
Also this from December:
Hedge fund billionaire Leon Cooperman of Omega Advisors, in a television interview on CNBC Thursday, spoke of a comment he says Trump made to him about Amazon at a White House dinner with business executives last summer.
“Twice he asked me if I thought Amazon was a monopoly,” Cooperman said. “I said, ‘No Mr. President I don’t think it is. I think they’ve out executed people and done a very good job.’ ” (CNNMoney was unable to reach Omega Advisors for comment, and Amazon declined to comment.)
Trump at times mingles his grievances with Amazon with his criticism of the Washington Post. Amazon’s founder and CEO, Jeff Bezos, owns the Post.
On Twitter, Trump has referred to the “Amazon Washington Post.”
Bezos is now both the wealthiest person in the World and the wealthiest person in history. It’s natural that to Trump this fact alone would constitute a grave narcissistic injury. Add to that the ownership of the Washington Post in particular, with its institutional history and reputation backing up its recent investigations that have damaged his Administration and you can see why Trump views Bezos as a particular threat.

I’ve been doing it against the Yankees for years. Something I think our NE friends could understand. It’s not personal. Only business.
The only team I root against is Dallas. Unless they’re playing the Giants or Washington. Then I root for the Earth to split open.
If the Cowboys went 0-16, and lost all their preseason games, it isn’t enough. If the Eagles were on the playoff bubble and needed the Cowboys to beat a rival, I’d wait until next year.
I think the most wonderful football play of the last twenty years was when Tony Romo botched the snap of a game winning field goal in a playoff game in Seattle. I knew at that moment his career would be scarred by that moment, and it was.

AT&T announces and gets praised for bonuses, quietly axes 1,300 jobs.
Wal-Mart announces and get praised for raises, quietly announces store closings and job cuts. And totally forgets to announce that the raises are dependent on seniority and that its firing salaried managers and offering to hire them back at lower pay rates.
Of course, the next act in this familiar play will be major companies announcing “upgrades” aimed at improving speed and customer service, which politicians will laud as “reinvestment” but in reality will just be further automation that will drive further job cuts. About how the “cost savings” will be passed on in “lower prices,” because the companies expect to make up the difference in volume.

i would like to congratulate trump and kushner for their amazing success in moving peace talks between israel and the palestinian authority forward. the results of their new approach speak for themselves
President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority said on Sunday that Israel had killed the Oslo Accords and angrily assailed the Trump administration over its handling of the conflict. He vowed to reject American leadership of any peace talks and urged Palestinians to reconsider their signed agreements with Israel.
“We will not accept for the U.S. to be a mediator, because after what they have done to us — a believer shall not be stung twice in the same place,” Mr. Abbas said.
“The deal of the century is the slap of the century,” he added, mocking the still-undefined peace initiative that the Trump administration has been working on and promoting in the region. “However, we’ll get back at them.”

Oh bullshit. What the fuck is a “shithouse” anyway, I’ve NEVER EVER in my life EVER heard ANYONE EVER use the word “shithouse.”
Very common slang for toilet or just something not good in Commonwealth countries. Or maybe just back home. ‘Built like a brick shithouse’, ‘crazy as a shithouse rat’, ‘this shithouse pizza with pineapple’, etc.
Quick, call up Tom Cotton and ask if him if he remembers Trump saying “shithouse” instead.
I’ve decided to write a memoir about my grandfather who passed in 2010. It’s proving challenging to do him proper justice.
WWII vet, career civil servant honored by the government multiple times, gambler extraordinare (didn’t play much but usually won when he played), talented bartender, painter and craftsman and one heck of a family man. He and granny were married 61 years.

“built like a brick shithouse” = phrase very common with asshole men who believe the ladies just can’t resist them when they say that…and very familiar to women who have to put up with that shit.

I have only ever heard the expression “crazier than a shithouse rat” which would accurately describe Cheeto Pendejo.

I’ve certainly never heard anyone use it as an adjective, as in ‘shithouse country’, whereas shithole as an adjective, as in ‘shithole country,’ is pretty common usage.
I asked @realDonaldTrump whether the comments he made about Africa and Haiti would make it harder to get a DSACA deal. His answer: “Did you see what various senators in the room said about my comments? They were not made.”

It won’t be long now before Trump gets on Twitter and denies he ever said “shithole countries,” followed within a day or two by a tweet saying something even worse.

Interesting; where I am from, ‘built like a brick shithouse’ would only refer to men, and would mean someone with broad shoulders and powerfully built. Using it to mean a shapely woman would be weird.

ISTR the phrase “Brick Kremlin” from an old movie.

White House official told me tonight there is debate internally on whether Trump said “shithole” or “shithouse.” Perdue and Cotton seem to have heard latter, this person said, and are using to deny.

Shithouse is relatively common in Australian slang - means things are really bad.
But then there’s built like a shithouse - meaning big, strong etc…
Before Chelsea Manning even went to Iraq she assaulted her female supervisor by punching her in the face at work, but please, continue telling me how she’s such an outstanding person and will make a great US Senator.

To get Walmart’s full $1,000 bonus, an employee would’ve had to start working there in 1998. Some perspective: Titanic was still in theaters.

Unfortunately many of the key people I’d need to speak with are no longer with us. My mom and brother are onboard to help me though.

Alexa, is it an ethics problem if a White House official uses her official account to criticize a private company’s product?

Year-end bonuses are not exactly a new thing; but then again, Paul Ryan doesn’t have much experience working for non-government business.
