Julian Assange Exposed: Thought He Was Messaging Sean Hannity When He Offered ‘News’ on Democrat Investigating Trump-Russia

Politics • Views: 34,387

Dear diary: Today we learned that Wikileaks head honcho Julian Assange is sneaking around behind the scenes, trying to aid the GOP effort to shield Donald Trump by working with Fox News propagandist Sean Hannity. What a day!

Julian Assange Thought He Was Messaging Sean Hannity When He Offered ‘News’ on Democrat Investigating Trump-Russia

At about 4 a.m. on Saturday morning, a couple hours after she started pretending to be Sean Hannity, Dell Gilliam says she got a direct message back from the head of WikiLeaks, Julian Assange. That’s when she said she “kind of panicked.”

“I felt bad. He really thought he was talking to Sean Hannity,” said Gilliam.

Gilliam, a technical writer from Texas, was bored with the flu when she created @SeanHannity__ early Saturday morning. The Fox News real account was temporarily deleted after cryptically tweeting the phrase “Form Submission 1649 | #Hannity” on Friday night. Twitter said the account had been “briefly compromised,” according to a statement provided to The Daily Beast, and was back up on Sunday morning.

When Gilliam made the account, she did not expect to be setting up a meeting over “other channels” for Assange to send “some news about Warner,” an apparent reference to Sen. Mark Warner, the top Democrat on the Senate intelligence committee investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Sean Hannity spews a bunch of BS in response to this bombshell report:

re: #68 Belafon

It’ll end up like Ted Lieu said, just like Al Capone’s vault.

Well…no.

The vault involved a final reveal—there are contents or there aren’t contents, in a direct, material way. If Geraldo had doubled down and speculated that the contents had been stolen or moved, or specifically moved to discredit him, that would be closer to the current situation. But that’s still an imperfect comparison; at some point, the vault situation is about material evidence…a physical, made-of-matter thing is or isn’t.

The memo situation is scary because it’s specifically exploiting the slippery nature of what constitutes veracity with regards to documentation and just plain words in general.

The memo is valid in its claims and assertions should be something carefully assessed with a neutral disposition and with recognition of the fact it’s (1) an opinion piece, (2) that its meaningfulness hinges entirely on how it uses cited intelligence to reach its conclusions. That would the equivalent of “the vault is full” or “the vault is empty” verification.

But the whole point of the memo is to poison the well of veracity. Following the logic of the above paragraph, it makes no sense to circulate or hype an interpretation without knowing what’s interpreted. But that’s what’s happening because the goal is not veracity. Rather, the hyperbole, the emotionality, and the keying into an existing framework of both conspiracy theory and partisan alliance is being done to create verisimilitude—truthiness—specifically to misdirect as many people as possible.

And there’s a lot of folks who will participate in their own misdirection. Some are cynics, and will echo anything they see as advancing their wants; some feel that affiliation and emotion are more valid than documentation and analysis, some literally don’t know how veracity works and have never thought about it.

No, the memo won’t work on everyone, but it will keeping the people already gulled, gulled, and many of those folks will invest deeper in the idea that everyone questioning Trump is part of a conspiracy. It’s just another feint in a series of feints, but there is an intended cumulative effect to this kind of repetition of narrative. One is makes the story true in the mind of the person who listens to the story; the second is that it reinforces how truth is a product of narratives by the right kind of people.

This thing we’re watching is exploitation of priming: get your story out first, and wager that a big group of people will do zero followup…a lot of folks now “know” what’s in the memo and will never, ever read it, or read any commentary.

What if I told him everything he wrote was wrong? I mean seriously.

The pay for their own houses. They pay taxes for schools. they pay for their food. They pay their doctors. It’s their money in the bank. You just want to kick them out so you can steal all the things they’ve earned.

They’re convinced every immigrant is a moocher. RW propaganda works unfortunately.

re: #80 The Vicious Babushka

Washington, D.C. - Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after House Intelligence Committee Republicans voted to publicly release a bogus, misleading memo, authored by Chairman Devin Nunes:

“Tonight, the House Republicans crossed from dangerous irresponsibility and disregard for our national security into the realm of cover up. In doing so, they disregarded the warnings of the Justice Department and the FBI.

Not bad, but I liked my congressman’s take on the McCabe “resignation”:

U.S. Congressman David N. Cicilline (RI-01), the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee’s Antitrust Subcommittee, issued the following statement today:

“Deputy Director McCabe has served our country for more than two decades in the FBI. He is a remarkable public servant who I’ve had the opportunity to see at the Judiciary Committee. I’ve always found him to be honest and straightforward with members of both political parties.”

“In recent months, several Republicans in Congress have done everything they can to attack the Department of Justice and the FBI. This has included reckless, personal attacks against Deputy Director McCabe and his wife, Jill. Without any merit whatsoever, the President and his zealots have accused Deputy Director McCabe of bias, impropriety, and even criminal conduct.”

“Every day, these baseless attacks are doing real damage to public confidence in our government. In their efforts to protect the President from a legitimate criminal inquiry, Republicans are undermining institutions that are essential to our society. They have gone too far, and their efforts should be condemned by all who love our democracy.”

There was talk about “messaging”. How hard is it to say “FBI: good”?

re: #94 The Ghost of a Flea

If your assessment is true, then nothing will come of it. Zero opinions will change. Oh, some Republicans might try to find an excuse, but it will be pretty thin.

Sorry, I fell asleep midway through the 2nd paragraph of your novel. Struck because I was being an ass. The example is short and imperfect because it’s a tweet and most people will not read let alone retain a detailed analysis about what the memo actually is. The fact the memo is a bunch of hype with nothing actually there is close enough.

This administration is like a bad novel. Too many characters, and too much shit to keep track of.

I was so tired after work, I sat down on my bed and was out like a light for three hours. Now I’m going to be up all night. I have a ninety-minute commute each way to work, and I already hate my job.

Just took half a Xanax. Didn’t help.

Well, that *is* the Nazi way.

Actually, it’s the American way, particularly if the workers are not white. (See what happened to Japanese American farms after an internment; they’re trying to criminalize immigration from Latin countries so they can feed the private prison system to use for farm labor).

Joe Bacon 🌹  Jan 29, 2018 • 8:15:54pm

I remember talking with Grandma Bacon during Watergate and she was so scared at that time. She thought there would be a revolution or coup that would drive Nixon out of office. I know Grandpa Bacon’s last immersion in politics was when he worked in Pat Brown’s 1962 and 1966 campaign. I remember Grandpa calling us on election night 1962 and he popped a champagne cork when Nixon conceded to Brown. He was joyous. But 4 years later Gramp said Reagan “took the fizz out of the Coke bottle he opened”.

I sadly think that this country is in its most perilous position since Lincoln took office in 1860. We already have a massive organized movement dedicated to overturning every advance made since Wilson and now we have a state openly defying Federal law—Idaho now saying they will ignore the ACA. I’m turning 62 in 2 days and now I’m starting to fear that my pension will disappear…

Listen. We are stronger than those times because of social media

The minute it crosses that threshold that we together feel, we will all go out and fight. In the streets.

Remember, there are more good people than bad.

We will fight. We will change our lives in a second. And go out & fight.

I do not believe I’m alone in this thinking.
