Meaning the phone numbers where the parents were being held in the U.S.?
Gelernt said that, despite knowing the ACLU needed contact information to track deported parents, the government didn’t cough up the numbers until Aug. 7, almost a week after they were asked to do so by the organization and the judge. He said it should not have taken so much pressure for the administration to provide organizations and advocates with such basic information about deported parents.
…
Cathleen Caron, the founder and executive director of the migrant rights group Justice in Motion, said that before the government provided phone numbers for deported parents, advocates only had a list of addresses that were oftentimes vague or incomplete. “Maybe the list says Miguel in Guatemala City, and that’s not [helpful],” she said. “Guatemala City has more than 2.5 million people.” According to the ACLU, more than 100 of the government-provided addresses were completely useless, while others simply listed cities or descriptions such as “street without a name.”

Among other things, O’Daniel was a wealthy businessman running as man-of-the-people evangelical simpleton, who got famous through radio and knew nothing about government but did have an appeal to enough voters to get elected. After he became governor he continued broadcasting from the governor’s mansion on weekends—sound familiar (Twitter).

Bannon is saying how 2008 laid the seeds for a Trump victory:
A decade now after the 2008 financial crisis, the cultural and psychological imprint that it left looks almost as deep as the one that followed the Great Depression. Its legacy includes a new radical politics on both the left and the right; epidemics of opioid abuse, suicides, and low birthrates; and widespread resentment, racial and gendered and otherwise, by those who felt especially left behind. This week, New York continues our retrospective on the crash and its aftermath by publishing interviews with some of those who were closest to the events. Here, Steve Bannon, a former Goldman Sachs investment banker turned face of Trump-era populism, on how the bailouts led directly to the 2016 election, why we need to break up the banks, and his goal to turn the GOP into a worker-based party.

Y’know, I don’t trust Omarosa as a source, but the ant farm anecdote is too out there to have been fabricated from whole cloth. Trump has had other occasions when he has referred to people or things no one else can see, such saying Melania was outside the Oval Office window when she in fact was not. Now, the WSJ reports WH staff have to keep Sessions out of Trump’s field of view to keep Il Trumpino from losing his temper at him. Out of sight, out of mind, like an infant.

Republicans need to start to distance themselves from the bigot in the White House. Pelosi isn’t a racist bully and she’s done just fine as a House Leader in my books. As someone said in an earlier thread, why aren’t House Republicans asked about Jim Jordan’s plan to run for House Leadership and if they support him given the sexual harassment allegations in his background?

“Let’s pray for your governor, Gov. Brown. Wouldn’t it be something if she got saved? Amen,” Graham said, the Portland weekly reported. “We pray for Kate Brown. And Lord, I pray that she would come to know your son Jesus Christ as her lord and savior one day…”
“If the church went to the polls and voted, you could turn this state around,” Graham told the crowd at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds. “The enemy out there thinks the church is asleep.”
I missed this one. Ken Ham is planning to build a Tower of Babel on his site with his Creation Museum and Ark Encounter.
To be true to the Old Testament story, if he does this, God should strike Ken Ham and all his builders and followers involved in this by confusing their speech and language so they cannot understand each other, triggering the collapse of Ken Ham’s grift.
That would go a long way to convince me of the veracity of his religious claims… .

He’s desperate, because visitations to his Ark and Museum are declining. So, what better way to boost revenues than solicit donations for yet another attraction for his Bible Theme Park.
To be authentic, his tower must be built from stone hand-quarried and fit by hand using only ancient technologies. Its height must surpass all other towers now in existence, since the whole point of the ToB story was that humans were trying to build a ladder to heaven, and YHWH was not keen on the idea. Since he has not smote Dubai in a similar fashion, the Burj Khalifa is not tall enough to piss him off.
Then again, Ham is not going for authenticity. His Ark can’t float.

She also made a fool of herself at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention last year.
Another one I missed:
Sandra Little Brown (D), running for reëlection as Jefferson County Commissioner in Alabama, claimed she had the endorsement of Jesus Christ in a campaign advert.
She lost the primary runoff to Sheila Tyson, 52% to 47%. No Republican is running in the race, so Ms. Tyson should be the next County Commissioner.
One commentator: Just what we need, another foreigner interfering in an American election.
On a fake ballot circulated as a campaign advert, she said she was supported by Jesus Christ and his followers. She defended the advert in a video to al (dot) com.
She said “she’s not afraid to own Jesus anywhere.”

Judge holds Roger Stone associate in contempt for refusing to testify in Russia investigation (Washington Post, more at the link):
A federal judge has found a witness in contempt for refusing to testify before the grand jury hearing evidence in special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
U.S. District Chief Judge Beryl Howell made the ruling Friday after a sealed hearing to discuss Andrew Miller’s refusal to appear before the grand jury. Miller is a former aide to longtime Trump confidant Roger Stone.
Miller’s lawyer Paul Kamenar said after the hearing that Miller was “held in contempt, which we asked him to be in order for us to appeal the judge’s decision to the court of appeals.”
Howell stayed her order while Miller’s legal team appeals her decision.
Miller lost a court battle this month to quash a subpoena after Howell issued a 93-page opinion saying he must testify before the grand jury.
Kamenar said he believes that Miller’s challenge could ultimately rise to the Supreme Court.

Had a very good phone call with @EmmanuelMacron, President of France. Discussed various subjects, in particular Security and Trade. Many other calls and conversations today. Looking forward to dinner tonight with Tim Cook of Apple. He is investing big dollars in U.S.A.

Thank you to Kanye West and the fact that he is willing to tell the TRUTH. One new and great FACT - African American unemployment is the lowest ever recorded in the history of our Country. So honored by this. Thank you Kanye for your support. It is making a big difference!

Deal with Mexico is coming along nicely. Autoworkers and farmers must be taken care of or there will be no deal. New President of Mexico has been an absolute gentleman. Canada must wait. Their Tariffs and Trade Barriers are far too high. Will tax cars if we can’t make a deal!

The question is…creepy incestuous redic or dumb as a stump redic?

LOL!!! Perfection!
“Dehumanizing speech” is not Twitter’s problem. It’s a symptom of the problem, and focusing on it will not solve anything. The real problem: the bad actors, the con men, the racists, the Nazis. The people.
You can’t fix a problem by cracking down on its symptoms.— Charles Johnson (@Green_Footballs) August 11, 2018

Who would those “internet trolls” be? Folks on Twitter protesting the continued support of racists, Nazis, people who issue death and rape threats?

For about an hour, the group tried to get a handle on what constituted dehumanizing speech. At one point, Mr. Dorsey wondered if there was a technology solution.
“What’s dehumanizing?”
“Let’s ask a robot.”

Lezley McSpadden (mother of Michael Brown) announced she’s running for city council in Ferguson, Missouri.
Lezley McSpadden, the mother of Michael Brown, officially announced her campaign for Ferguson City Council just a day after the four-year anniversary of her son’s death.
Amid chants of “Run, Lezley, run,” McSpadden revealed she’d be running in 2019.
“Three of my major things that I will focus on when I’m elected, because I’m speaking it into existence, is community policing, economic equality and access to health care for all of Ferguson’s young children and everyday people,” McSpadden said.

And Robyn Pennacchia has the definitive post about Bennie and the Debate.
The other day, noted creepy dude Ben Shapiro offered a woman who is 1000% out of his league a whole lot of money to spend the night with him. To spend the night “debating” him, that is…he offered a $10,000 donation to her campaign to debate him. Which, aside from not being nearly enough money to have to listen to Ben Shapiro’s voice for an hour, would actually be very illegal…
Ben Shapiro is an awful human being that no woman in her right mind would want to stand in line next to at the DMV, never mind “debate.” Also debating stupid ideas puts those ideas on par with not-stupid ideas…
If you are a man who is sitting around, feeling frustrated, wondering why women won’t take time out of their lives to “debate” you, you should perhaps consider that you are an unpleasant person with stupid ideas that no one wants to talk to or be around.
DEBATE OVER.
re: #110 Big Beautiful Door
Not that I don’t admire her, and she has great accomplishments as Speaker, but I wonder if it might not be time for new blood in leadership. With Trump as President, they won’t be able to accomplish much legislatively for the next two years anyway.
Don’t listen to media/trump/republican/russian persuasion. This is EXACTLY what they want you to think and say.
People said the same about Hillary Clinton. Went from 100% sure thing to losing the election to a moron.

Maybe the Harvard Law grad should roll up his sleeves and engage in public service instead of strictly using his amazing educational background to snipe from the sideline.
