Hump day mass shooting announcement, total of 7 officers were shot, 1 fatally, and some seriously wounded
By the suggested level of fire coming from the suspect, I would be surprised if an AK style or AR15 style weapon were not involved

I know you all are dying to know if I got the Emergency Alert text here in China.

Nope.

I have a T-mobile number, but it’s a pay-as-you-go account. That might be one reason, though I constantly get sales messages intended for the previous subscribers to this phone number.

It is a smartphone, but it’s made in China and only sold in China, so I presume it does not have the firmware required to receive and display the FEMA alerts.

If this were a real emergency, I’d be commenting from the afterlife.

The alert would go out over U.S. networks only. Since you’re running off Chinese towers it makes sense that you wouldn’t have gotten anything.

My sister is flying in from Germany this weekend. We’re all supposed to get together, but there’s some debate now about whether my brother will show. Most of us think that Kavanaugh should not be confirmed. My brother supports him. He says it’s because he went to school with Kavanaugh’s wife. My brother didn’t know her. My sister didn’t know her and they are the same age; my brother is two years older. The real reason is that my brother is the non-college educated white guy that Trump is targeting.

Just booked a trip to Vegas for Thanksgiving weekend. Since I’m flying from the LA area, figured I’d just do a carry on and I am once again amazed at how stupid our flight rules are. Like I can’t carry on a safety razor, shaving cream, or a 4 oz can of pomade? So, so dumb.

I’ve done two big Vegas trips since 2015 (both for Umphrey’s McGee at Brooklyn Bowl, and one time it was my birthday) and I’ve driven both times, solid eight hours behind the wheel. Then again, I’m driving from about 120 miles west of Denver, and that drive to Vegas is so very pretty, whatever route you take. Some call it God’s Country.

I usually drive. It’s basically a straight shot once you get to the 15 out here, and maybe around 4 hours depending on when you leave and how hard you drive. But all the hotels are now charging for parking and it’s a holiday weekend, so I figured the cost of the flight on JetBlue is pretty close to what I’d pay for gas in my big V8 and for parking, so might as well get there and back in about an hour.

I have no idea if a text was sent to my flip phone, because no cell service here. I’ll get the message if there was one next time I am in Cheyenne or Denver. This is a test. You were nuked last month. Have a nice day.

So I was just listening to the Stay Tuned with Preet interview with Katy Tur and two things bugged me. First she said she doesn’t vote and in fact had no preference in 2016. This was rationalized as a way to maintain journalistic professionalism and integrity. I see it instead as a pseudo intellectual ego driven conceit and part of the toxic View From Nowhere mentality. Part of being honest with your audience is being honest with yourself and if you honestly had no preference in that election then you are part of the fucking problem.

The second thing that got to me was the story she told about the time at after a Trump rally when an old man knocked on her car window and when she rolled it down he started yelling at her and SPIT IN HER FACE! She just laughed it off. She was physically asaulted, with a Secret Service agent as a witness, and instead of pressing charges turned into a hilarious anecdote.

Those two admissions just struck me as indicative of exactly how hollowed out and complicit TV journalists feel they have to be to succeed.

Wondering if your brain will ever connect to the internet:

University of Washington in Seattle researchers have developed a brain-to-brain network that transmits thoughts among members of a group. Using the BrainNet brain-to-brain network, three people—two senders and one receiver/transmitter—send and receive information directly to their brains to solve a game in which blocks must be spun to fit in spaces at the bottom of the screen. The senders, wearing electroencephalograms (EEGs) that record electrical activity in the brain, view the full screen, deciding how to rotate the blocks and broadcasting the information to the receiver, who wears both an EEG and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) gear, which can transmit information into the brain. The researchers suggest a cloud-based brain-to-brain interface server “could direct information transmission between any set of devices on the brain-to-brain interface network and make it globally operable through the Internet, thereby allowing cloud-based interactions between brains on a global scale.”

Mrs. FBW’s Mom was lefthanded, but she was a child just when that came out, and they tried to ‘cure’ her. Might have made her dyslexic.

Mrs. FBW is righthanded, but sufficiently adept with her left hand* that she was able to train herself to write upside down and backwards with her left hand, nearly as neatly as she writes upright with her right hand.

*[small] And bored as fuck in high school[/smal]

I am right-handed, so much so I almost can do nothing with my left hand. My sister is left-handed, and was constantly bashed by our grandparents for religious reasons to eat with her right hand. I was as well, because I also eat in the same fashion.

If the Republicans steal another election I’m afraid it’s time to seriously look at California secession.

How about Washington, Oregon, California, and Hawaii as the new nation of Pacifica?

Watch what happens if the Democrats get the House, issue subpoenas, and Kavanaugh writes the 5-4 Court majority opinions to quash them. He goes so far as to say that the President is not answerable to anyone but God…

Yep. Until Sasse and the others say they’re NO. I can’t take them seriously.

In a speech to the Hudson Institute, Pence will say China is using its power in “more proactive and coercive ways to interfere in the domestic policies and politics of the United States.”

“China wants a different American president,” Pence will say, according to excerpts of prepared remarks from his office.

The whole world wants a different American President.

re: #265 KGxvi

I think it’s just the next step in direct calling. Every once in a while I get a text message that is someone trying to sell something, very rare, but I suspect that text spam is coming. Almost as annoying as the thing they do now where they mask calls and your call ID shows a number similar to yours, same area code and three digit prefix.

One of the advantages of my tiny town.

Anyone trying to spoof a telephone number seems to grab a random number.

Our local numbers are 489-0xxx (government and business) and 489-9xxx (home numbers). Any other combination is a spoofed caller ID.

We cannot allow the Russians to achieve their dream: they have been talking about the US fracturing ever since the Soviet Union did fracture and they are working on accomplishing this objective. We cannot give up and must continue to fight to keep this nation together. That’s how they win: to silence dissent by making the opposition too discouraged to work to unify this country again.
