And a reminder. Gary Clarke Jr. is musical guest on SNL tonight. Don Cheadle is guest host. I think there is more Baldwin Trump tonight.

Kinda done with Alec Baldwin’s Trump impression. It’s just not very good.

It’s not, but it means poking at Trump and I like that part of SNL sketch comedy.

Plus, it will be interesting to see what Gary Clarke Jr. does during Black History month with the material he has recently released.

“Hey, my likes and retweets are now showing the correct numbers! I guess Twitter wasn’t persecuting conservatives after all - it was just a bug! That’ll teach me not to jump to conclusions.”

Remember the blowup when FB was “censoring conservative news stories”

and the IRS was “targeting conservative groups for audits”?

Proof that white genocide is a clear and present danger that requires immediate pre-emptive responses.

So, REM got Twitter to remove the video Trump tweeted earlier of a montage of the SOTU speech audience reactions to “Everybody Hurts.” Apparently, Trump’s verbal diarrhea is very hurtful.

Act 2, Trump tweeted a new video where they replaced REM with Lee Greenwood (I’m Proud To Be An American). I’m not sure it will have the effect they’re hoping for. As Greenwood sings “I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free,” there’s an image of Mazie Hirono not clapping. RWNJs think this is owning the libs. Well, this lib thinks Hirono exercising her constitutional right of free speech is the most American thing I’ve seen today.

Today’s edition of Nancy Pelosi knows what the fuck she’s doing.

Heading into the weeklong Presidents Day recess, the office of Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is distributing a spreadsheet to members logging a host of wide-ranging local projects potentially threatened by Trump’s effort to shift funds from military construction coffers to the border wall.

The list — nearly 400 projects long — features a number of ventures in GOP districts. It includes maintenance facilities for F-35 stealth fighters at Eielson Air Force Base outside Fairbanks, Alaska; the operation of a middle school at Fort Campbell, Ky.; and funds to replace a training maze at Fort Bragg, N.C.

“We have to smoke out as many Republicans as possible by making the case that projects in their backyard are in jeopardy and will likely be raided to help pay for Trump’s ineffective and politically motivated wall,” said a senior Democratic aide.

I went to go look up who released the Pentagon papers - the NYT, I had forgotten - and found out that the investigation into Watergate helped clear Ellsberg:

For his disclosure of the Pentagon Papers, Ellsberg was initially charged with conspiracy, espionage, and theft of government property, but the charges were later dismissed after prosecutors investigating the Watergate scandal discovered that the staff members in the Nixon White House had ordered the so-called White House Plumbers to engage in unlawful efforts to discredit Ellsberg.[5][6]

“I think that there’s a great opportunity here, now more than ever, for Democrats to be the non-stupid party, to point out the difference,” he said. “That it’s not just about transgender bathrooms. That’s a Republican talking point they’re trying to distract you with. That we haven’t forgotten the economic anxiety of the middle class, but we’re going to be smart about this; we’re not going to be mean about it.”

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest woman elected to the House, responded to his comments on Twitter.

“News Flash: Medicare for All & equal rights aren’t trends,” she responded on Twitter.

When people complain about low turnout in some demos, it’s not because communities are apathetic, it’s bc they don’t see you fighting for them.

Hi gang,
Power was out here this morning. My computer battery is dead, it turns out, so I had to re-set the clocks, which is one of those tasks that Windoze delights in making several orders of magnitude more difficult than necessary.

So, how is everyone managing in the National Emergency? Does everybody have plenty of preserved food, bottled water and potable alcohol? How about fuel? Kerosene? Wood pellets? We have literally tons of mesquite brush here in the xenoburbs so I am not worried. A neighbor reports hordes of insane people speeding down I-20 to and from DFW, but they do that every Saturday so I am not sure what to make of it.

A peek over at Balloon Juice reminded me of something Adam Silverman has noted: Trump reportedly has to wear a bulletproof vest when he goes out in public, which adds extra volume to his already-bulky carcass: presumably he doffs it for golf (or omelette-bar) outings. Though if The Orange Anus actually does weigh “243 pounds”, I’ll eat that vest - with bacon….*

* OK, I’ll admit to being a bit overweight, no argument; but “243” is less than what I weigh, and Donald Trump is a taller and bulkier guy than I am by a long shot. Just another outrage of the Trump Era: his health reports are blatantly fictitious, and no one seems to call him out on it or even seem to care. And this from the assholes who insisted that every sneeze from Hillary Clinton was a sign she was at Death’s door….

Angela Paxton’s proposal would — for applicants approved by the agency her husband leads — circumvent that process, handing some approval power to the attorney general’s office, and would override any existing state law that conflicts with it.

Jens Dammann, a securities expert at the University of Texas School of Law, said Angela Paxton’s bill would open a “fairly aggressive exception” in state securities regulations at a time when the trend nationally is to regulate more, not less.”

Ayep. Basically you only qualify for the main reward if you completely remove yourself from the gene pool. If you reproduced or there is some way for you to reproduce, then you can only get an honorable mention.

Independent researcher has published a detailed analysis of the transactions by that failed crypto exchange in Canada. What he found suggests the exchange was a front for criminal activities.

Meanwhile, the widow of the exchange’s CEO has sold one of their properties for CAN$1.1M and put others in a trust to prevent creditors from seizing them. The couple owned at least four properties in Canada, a yacht, and some expensive autos.

Sketchiness all around.

A cold wallet is a way to store Bitcoin or whatever cryptoasset so that it is isolated from the Internet. and thus, hackers. A hot wallet is one that is connected to the Internet for the convenience of sending or receiving cryptocurrencies, but in the process risks the wallet being hacked and cleaned out.

A $100 bill probably isn’t criminal; a handful of them may not be; 2-inch stacks of them wrapped in rubber bands and packed into a suitcase…. almost certainly are.

Most cryptocurrencies — bitcoin is one example — are in fact more easily traced than $100 bills. The analysis the OP does is similar to what the FBI did to arrest the dark market Silk Road operators. Blockchains are a public ledger, so you can trace where money is moving even if you can’t be sure who precisely is moving it.

Real operators just create LLCs offshore to receive funds, and then invest those funds in real estate at inflated prices to “clean” the money. All they need are cooperative lawyers and banks who won’t ask too many questions about that $5M you just received from your Uncle Vanya.

Here’s an interesting graphic from that QuadrigaCX analysis. It’s a breakdown of the number of Bitcoin wallet addresses and their holdings. Almost half (48.73%) hold 0 - 0.001 bitcoin each (0-$3.60). The remaining addresses are fewer in number, but hold more bitcoin in aggregate than the people at the bottom.

For example, there are 134,004 addresses holding between 10 and 100 bitcoins ($36,000 and $360,000). They represent only 0.58% of all the addresses in the network, but their balances constitute 25% of the Bitcoin supply — almost $16B.
