Was there not a part of ACA that was supposed to deal with medical devices?

re: #2 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

There was a tax on medical devices, but the TCJA repealed that provision in an effort to abolish the ACA by depriving it of funding (same as with the individual mandate).

It is ironic that the man who achieved his position through insulting and bullying others and who continues in this manner as President is now subjected to mockery throughout the world. Obama mocked him mercilessly during the 2011 WHCD and that was apparently the trigger for his decision to run. Bullies do not accept anything less than total obeisance; who knows what despicable policies he will implement in response to his deserved treatment on the world stage. The only leaders who praise him are the autocrats throughout the world. We are definitely living in treacherous times.

There might have been a handful of people in Britain who did not despise him, but once he called Meghan “nasty” (and then tried to deny it in the face of a live interview), he pretty much lost his last supporters. I am sure that half the people who came to see him at Buckingham Palace are American tourists who happen to be in London at the time.

Not all that ironic at all, it’s classic bullying on a grand scale. Outside of their support system, bullies are easily seen for what they are. The problem is the enabling bubble that they’re surrounded by that feeds their sense of right and righteousness and allows them to get away with shit in their immediate sphere of influence anyway.

The only autocrats (and anyone outside the US) who are praising him are those who know that the vain small little Trump is a sucker for flattery and will say/do anything to get praise.

See North Korea. Give Trump a photo op and Trump gave up leverage on getting North Korea to dismantle its nuclear program before any meeting. Jong Un got treated as an equal with the US and Trump didn’t care about the consequences.

Trump is easily goaded and is a reactionary know nothing. It’s a dangerous combination and we all warned about this. Not enough cared.

CL’d on the last thread whilst nerding out on classic sci-fi, so I had to bring it back here:

re: #83 Feline Fearless Leader

It’s 1950s stuff and the basic premise is that an anti-gravity device allows large objects (in this case actual cities from Earth) to have space flight. I believe there are omnibus volumes of the main novels as well as being able to find them singly.

amazon.com

Blish’s Cities In Flight is responsible for me learning the 1930s word “Bindlestiff.”

In the 30s, it was a hobo that robbed other hoboes.

In the books, it was a city that preyed on other cities as they wandered the galaxy.

“…Why can’t the American president watch a “Fox News International” in Britain, as he could with CNN? The problem appears to be relatively simple: British viewers have rejected it.

Just two years ago, it was possible to watch Fox News in Britain. However, in August 2017, the network was abruptly pulled off the air. A statement released by its parent company at the time pinned the blame on low ratings.

“It averages only a few thousand viewers across the day,” 21st Century Fox said in a statement provided to CNN. The company noted that this was largely because the network’s programming was aimed at American audiences.

“We have concluded that it is not in our commercial interest to continue providing Fox News in the U.K.,” the statement said.

I think they realized a “we lie all the time for our conservative agenda” would not fly in Europe in the face of the BBC. And trying to market in the various European nations at once would require investing in a fairly extensive multi-lingual effort and there also fighting upstream against established networks where I expect the general media would quite quickly start calling them on their lies. And given the narrow borders and crossing of information of Europe the lies made by Fox France would probably have to differ from the lies made by Fox Germany and comparison would be pretty easy to do.

Imagine being Apple and not realizing that the buyers of Mac Pros are freelance gig economy workers in creative industries with no corporate subsidies, what a way to fail to read the room

They get to set that off against their taxes…

Does someone dress Trump and tell him that these outfits look good on him? Does he not realize that they are so poorly fitted to be laughable?

Seriously, how can he be so bad at this all the time? Does his tailor tell him what he wants to hear and just does whatever Trump says, regardless of the outcome?

How can you look that bad in a formal white tie suit?

He was pouting probably because he saw the online response to the nonexistent crowds along the parade route in London today.

I’m a little surprised he didn’t insist on wearing his long red tie with the outfit.

How many rallies do you think his handlers are plannning for when he gets back?

Good. Hope he has a long, miserable flight home.

So many… They’ll be huge, and he’ll lie about the turnout in the UK for him along that parade route too. They’ll cheer on the lies.

It’s what he does.

We knew who Trump was but elected him anyway. We can’t impeach him for that.

We know what kind of person he is, he is not being impeached for that.

He needs to be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors which we did not know about before the Mueller Report.

“We” elected the electors, many of whom were bound to vote a certain way. So “we” may not have directly elected him, but we did so indirectly. And as I mentioned the other day, most of our federal system was originally designed really to be indirect democracy. It’s not something that makes a whole lot of sense today, but it is the system we have.

There’s several more high crimes and misdemeanors he should be impeached for as well, including abuse of power (declaring national emergencies to bypass Congress), contempt of Congress (failure to respond to subpoenas, etc), and I’m sure I can come up with a few more.

Lately it seems that Apple has becomes craptastic as of late - especially when it came to the ‘butterfly’ keyboard.

Lately it seems that Apple has becomes craptastic as of late - especially when it came to the ‘butterfly’ keyboard.

Started WAY before that - with Firewire 800. Then the move to Thunderbolt, requiring me to shitcan all the expensive external drives to buy the TB2 “toaster” for external drives.

But when they took away the MagSafe power charger - one of the few really brilliant UX-driven innovations they’ve had - and replace it with a single TB3/USB-C port that is supposedly for charging/external keyboard-mouse/monitor/audio I-O/external drives, I said FUCK NO.

NO MORE GODDAMN DONGLES.
