Morning Joe’s crew are fretting for the poor Trump voters who have buyer’s remorse, have soured on Trump, but “have no one on the Democratic side to vote for if Biden loses to someone like Warren.” But bless Willie Geist who notes that there are also a lot of “I’ll vote for anyone as long as it’s not Trump” independent voters, too.

My mother’s one of them. Basically, every time Warren speaks (every time anyone left of Biden including Mayor Pete speaks), she hears The Internationale.

And she’s that type of white Boomer who feels that fascism and communism are totally equal and totally evil, so given the choice between a fascist and what she sees as a Red in the pre-2000 sense of the word…she’ll write in a joke name.

She’s convinced the Wealth Tax will drop from 500M to 0.75M during just her first term.

She also doesn’t seem to understand that Warren’s the least likely of the leftist Dems to go nationalising major industries right and left.

And I think that pointing out Warren was a Republican as recently as the second Clinton administration won’t go over well either, because I suspect she’d outright deny it.

My mom is definitely wary of more left wing economic solutions but she finds Warren genuine and refreshing. I mean I get not wanting all of Warrens agenda. I myself am a little skeptical. But damn it she’s got an agenda and will actually work rather than being a punk on Twitter.

Some fool here in Ostrava threw away a lightly-used pair of Adidas sneakers. And a perfect fit, too! So, disinfected them, cleaned ‘em up a little bit (the soles were dirty, but largely unworn; I’d say the previous owner wore them for less than a couple months) and saved myself about $100 or so.

Alexei Leonov, the first man to do a spacewalk, has died at the age of 85.

Alexei Leonov, a Soviet-era cosmonaut who was the first man to conduct a spacewalk in 1965, died in Moscow on Friday aged 85 after a long illness.

The Russian space agency Roscosmos said it was saddened to announce the death of “cosmonaut No 11” who was twice decorated with the country’s top honour, the Hero of the Soviet Union.

Leonov was a close friend of Yury Gagarin, who became the first human to go to outer space in 1961.

Four years later Leonov made history when he left a spacecraft during the Voskhod 2 mission for a spacewalk that lasted 12 minutes and nine seconds.

Glad the NY Times published something useful: a column pointing out the wealthy actually pay less in taxes than the rest of us…nytimes.com

Warren’s wealth tax seems impractical, but a reversion of the tax code to that of the Clinton era, but with reductions for lower brackets, changes in estate taxes to capture more money from the wealthy, and elimination of the carried interest loophole, plus perhaps some of the suggestions in the article would be a good start.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area.

We’re going to need a bigger bingo card as the bulkshit continues to hit the fan. All the while, Trump continues to do serious damage to national security and the intel services and the mechanisms that deliver intel to the WH.

You don’t get rid of the career professionals to have only political appointees unless the only thing you want to hear is the stuff that you delusionally believe to be reality. It’s about fitting the intel to Trump’s know-nothing idiocy.

The point of the intel community is to tell the president and decision makers the information they need to know, not what they want to hear. Trump doesn’t give a shit, and wants to gut the career servicemembers all in favor of his puppets and sycophants. This is extremely dangerous to our security, and the GOP doesn’t give a shit.

“…Officials said that within hours of the 9 a.m. conversation, a rough transcript compiled by aides had been moved from a widely shared White House computer network to one normally reserved for highly classified intelligence operations. According to the whistleblower’s complaint, White House lawyers “directed” officials to move the transcript to the classified system. At the same time, officials were seeking ways to report what they had witnessed, an undertaking complicated by the lack of a White House equivalent to the inspector general positions found at other agencies.”

Yes, but new tests show that she may have a disease that brings on early puberty and affects bone density. This throws into question her actual age. She does have physical and mental problems and the new couple who’ve adopted her need to have her carefully monitored. They also need to watch their backs because she has already shown murderous tendencies.

Maybe, but was Sondland subpoenaed? I can understand him not wanting to get into personal legal trouble if so, but ISTM that if he really didn’t want to appear, he could just retreat behind Pompeo’s stonewalling. For now, anyway.

I found it interesting in a conversation with my financial advisor* the other day that he specifically mentioned Warren as a threat to market values if she gets elected. I think he transitioned pretty cleanly from Hilary being the market anti-Christ to Warren being it.

The Trump-ites I am still acquainted with (and many of which I basically don’t talk to, just see their Facebook crap) seem to pretty much continue backing Trump verbally for one (or more) of three reasons:
1. The “he owns the libs” crap - which says a lot about them given that most of them are getting directly hurt by Trump’s policies.
2. They’re conservative Catholics for whom abortion is still a big thing and apparently is solely the fault of whoever the leading Democratic candidate is.
3. A few of them are pretty much racist to the core and still carry a lot of butt-hurt from the fact there was an Obama Administration.

* - I don’t discuss politics with him for a few reasons. Mainly because I know he wouldn’t budge from his conservative positions via discussion and wouldn’t be swayed by any evidence I provided. Too solidly based in his GOP-ness due to conservative Catholic upbringing**, market uber alles viewpoint (it’s what he does for a living), and I expect decades of exposure to the GOP talking points.

** - And there is a bit of hypocrisy here that I will not go into.

“Nuclear war wiping out the major cities would be a healthy reset for our nation,” Nebor wrote in late September on a Reddit thread, one of the top posts on his profile overview. “As long as Tel Aviv got a taste too. But our nation would be better off without NYC, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, Dallas, Atlanta, Houston, Minneapolis, Washington DC, Seattle, etc. They’re all full of traitors and bugmen.”

Isn’t that the backstory for Jericho?

His financial acumen is pretty good. He gave good advice to my parents and I’ve gotten good advise from him as well over the years - which has been profitable for both of us.

I think his worldview has been pretty limited and in blinders to some degree. It’s pretty easy to limit oneself to mainly seeing the white privileged world and not give much thought to what others are experiencing.

Then he sounds like another manifestation of this phenemenon:

This was my first encounter with what I now like to call the “smart idiots” effect: The fact that politically sophisticated or knowledgeable people are often more biased, and less persuadable, than the ignorant.

For one thing, well-informed or well-educated conservatives probably consume more conservative news and opinion, such as by watching Fox News. Thus, they are more likely to know what they’re supposed to think about the issues—what people like them think—and to be familiar with the arguments or reasons for holding these views. If challenged, they can then recall and reiterate these arguments. They’ve made them a part of their identities, a part of their brains, and in doing so, they’ve drawn a strong emotional connection between certain “facts” or claims, and their deeply held political values. And they’re ready to argue.

Starting to leak out that the Feds had a wiretap up and running on Giuliani.

It was only possible because Rudy was conspiring with known Kremlin-backed mobsters outside the U.S. They were able to get the wiretap authorization done via FISA warrant, meaning it was outside the DoJ pipeline and corrupt Bill Barr couldn’t shut it down.

It is amazing the gyrations honest law enforcement have to do to avoid being sabotaged by a corrupt President and his henchmen. But they still do it.
