I’d like to see the Biden campaign reply like this: “The Trump campaign is agitating for rigged ‘debates’ run by biased right wing nut job moderators. Trump’s campaign knows that’s the only way they can pretend to have a good result.

So they can take this idea, polish it up, turn it sideways, shove it where the sun doesn’t shine, and then blow it out their candy asses.”

Trump’s been on a bender this afternoon with nonstop tweets about how the DOT has approved lots of projects around the country.

It’s as if he doesn’t realize that this is the DOT job. This isn’t anything new or special.

He’s desperate to change the conversation away from Bolton’s book, the 120,000+ dead Americans, and his failed administration, to say nothing of his collapsing poll numbers.

Not even Fox can help him, though they’re trying still.

Brit Hume: Welcome to the 8th debate between President Donald Trump and Sleepy Joe Biden, here on Fox News. Our moderators tonight - Lou Dobbs, Laura Ingraham, Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and me, Brit Hume. Sean, first question to you.

Sean Hannity: Thanks, Brit. So, Joe - you guys really screwed the pooch on the H1N1 flu, didn’t you? Millions dead, the economy in tatters, and you and Barack Hussein Obama smoking fat, Cuban cigars on the links, day after day.

Joe Biden: Is there a question in all that malarkey?

Sean Hannity: No. Next question for you, Mr. President - Isn’t it true that your stellar response to the now-ended Wuhan Flu pandemic, the Chinese Virus, was truly the world’s most successful response? Don’t we all owe you a debt of gratitude, even our very LIVES?

That’s the thing about science and reality — people’s beliefs on these subjects are irrelevant. Nature doesn’t give a shit, whether it is covid19 or climate change.

But so many of these GOP shitbirds have lived entirely in a GOP reality distortion zone, where GOP talking points and the ability to sell these in the media are their only measure of reality.

I honestly wonder if even mass unnecessary deaths, concentrated in their voting demographic, will be enough to crack right wing epistemic closure.

To be fair to California, I think it must be one of the highest in terms of encounter density in non-pandemic times. They’re going to have to implement some relatively stricter mandates to bring the numbers down. They’re not going up exponentially, so in that sense the curve is bending.

hi

So we’re back from Scottsbluff with new tires on the car and $370 lighter in cash.

I WON THE LOTTO (a free ticket from a free ticket).

We took the camera along so I could upload some pictures of the area. Apparently our battery charger was crap because it showed charged, but when I tried to use the camera it showed flat and wouldn’t work. I’ll try the other charger.

We drove up to the top of Scott’s Bluff National Monument, which rises seven hundred feet above Gering Valley. We’ve never actually been to the monument the whole time we’ve lived here. The view was stunning looking down the valley, but alas, no photos.

We’d planned a whole photo-taking trip home for photos of the Wildcat Hills, Chimney Rock National Monument, and Jail and Courthouse Rocks City Park, along with the Sandhills north of our village.

Scott’s Bluff has the only roadway tunnels in Nebraska (three, and one is a hairpin curve tunnel). They were blasted out during the Great Depression, and never improved until the Park Service started a project to widen the tunnels and roadway last year. That project was completed this spring.

Hiking trails around the bluff also have tunnels bored out during the Great Depression. They are scheduled to be improved next year.

Honestly, this is what you get with no national leadership. Then it’s up to states, who may leave it up to counties, who may leave it up to individual businesses.

Gov. Newsom just had to make a statewide order on masks because apparently Orange County was relaxing their rules in the face of a worsening outbreak.

They might go bankrupt before they see my business ever again. They got a cash infusion in April, but there’s a lot of wishful thinking that things return to normal. I think Chapter 11 is their future.

Today I got another policy violation, this time for an LGF Page by Shiplord Kirel from TEN YEARS AGO about a Taliban attack in Afghanistan, that had a not-very-graphic photo of a dead body. This one was listed as “shocking content.” I removed the photo, asked for a review and they lifted the violation.

An article from ten years ago. They made me waste my time dealing with a bogus MUST FIX policy violation for a page absolutely nobody was browsing to. And the photo was straight from the wire service at Yahoo, back in the day. But somehow, because it’s posted here and not at Yahoo News, it’s “SHOCKING CONTENT.”

This is just bullshit.

I see people on the internet crying because their beloved past is being replaced by something less racist. One of my cousins put up that since they’re censoring Gone With the Wind, BET should be required to sensor most of their shows.

Trump + the video of Floyd’s death has finally convinced enough people that we can no longer just accept the things around us as innocent images of an ideal era. And I’m glad. Unlike most of them, I don’t need those symbols, or even the past they’re associated with.

What will AMC do with its cinemas in the Northeast? My state will require masking for the foreseeable future. There are four phases to the plan, and we are currently headed for Phase 3 if nothing bad happens. Masks are required. (Phase 4 only happens when there is a treatment or vaccine available. I expect neither of these things.)

Will AMC decide that face coverings are a justification for Chapter 11? It’s bad enough that my town’s independent cinema is now out of business.

This adoption seems fishy as hell even before considering the fact that Gaetz is a Republican and therefore more likely than normal to be a sociopath/criminal etc.

There is a simpler answer.

Matt Gaetz lied.

A conservative cannot have their faith questioned. When Cedric Richmond questioned him in the House and Gaetz went off the rails, he was mocked about his non-existent minority child.

So he did what he had to do as a conservative: He made shit up.

I’m going to go with “no,” because conservatism is a religion. Religious faith doesn’t care about reality.

If lots of people are sickened and die in science-denying conservatism religion areas, they will just claim “God’s will” or some such tommyrot.

It’s my belief that his continuing objection to masks is mainly due to his desire to open up the economy and return to the pre-pandemic world. Wearing a mask reminds people of the continuing danger they face and may make them more reluctant to engage in all the normal societal activities that will completely restore our economy. Of course, Trump doesn’t care that as long as the plague remains a threat, there is no safe way to restart the economy, except by following CDC guidelines. But he has a short time horizon — surviving the November 3 election. He literally does not care how many will die after then, and he’s hoping that enough of the press will give him a pass to allow him to once again escape justice.

I’ve mentioned before that my biggest trepidation with going to the grocery store is worrying about being berated by the non-maskers (which are usually a vast majority at Food Lion.) I’d been only going to the smallish Food Lion nearby, as it is never crowded.

Today, I went to Fresh Market, and what a difference. Signage asking people to wear masks; most everyone masked and distancing—just saw a few unmasked peeps. And I got to indulge in some of my favorite fancy food that is not available at other groceries.

I’ve always had a feeling, perhaps wishful thinking, that American conservatism would end in a sudden (by historical standards) disaster and collapse, something like the 1920s ku klux klan, which collapsed with amazing speed after a kluxer overlord was convicted of rape and murder in Indiana.
This might be it, with consistent mishandling of the Corona pandemic and racial justice issues, much of it a direct result of half-baked conservative ideology, spiraling out of control and reaching the level of catastrophe by election day. I never dreamed their Armageddon would be this bad or this sudden, though, and I could very well not survive it myself.
