More good news. I just checked online and I am registered to vote at my new address! Sent in the mail form and they actually got it!!!!!

I’m voting in person. Feels more real to me (also, after I cast me vote I get to yell Fuck Trump).

In NYC in the middle of the day I don’t expect to wait for more than 20 minutes. But I will vote for 12 hours if I have to.

Bonus pics from the trip.

SCOOP: FEMA threw out the Aventa-M ventilators Russia gave the US that were made by a sanctioned company, used a different voltage, and caused fires in Russian hospitals, killing 6 people.

So, basically the same thing they caused here by getting Trump elected.

I’m sorry, are you disagreeing that Joe shredded trump’s alleged foreign policy in response to the idiotic townhall question that “trump should get credit for peace breaking out around the world”?
Sounds to me that you are commenting on something completely different.

Sorry, maybe I wasn’t clear: I wasn’t disagreeing about Joe Biden’s response (with which I agree) - I just think that as far as “the public” is concerned (as much as they actually think about the country’s foreign policy, which IMO is not much), that said “simpleminded boilerplate” is all Trump needs to spout to look like an FP maven.
Unfortunate to a terrible degree, but true.

pointing to the founders as defenders of democracy probably isn’t a particularly good line since most of them were rather skeptical of democracy in the ways we think of it now…

which is why if you were able to vote in 1789 (being a free white man over the age of 21 who owned real property), the only office you could directly vote for in the federal election was the House of Representatives. Senators and electors were chosen by the state legislatures… and electors could vote their conscious.

“Arson investigators have not yet released information about how many ballots were destroyed. Mayor Manuel Lozano said he believes there were close to 100 ballots in the box at the time of the incident that were burnt or wet.
“People are frustrated across the country, it’s no different in Baldwin Park,” Lozano said. “The incident that happened…does send a very bad message, as it is, the frustration with the voting box and then this occurs.”

Fire crews say they did their best to save as many ballots as possible.”

This is interesting:

Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday that California will review the safety of all COVID-19 vaccines that receive federal approval before distributing them to the public, adding an extra safeguard amid concerns that the White House could rush the process.

And an incredibly sad statement on the current state of the union.

This. Is. Horrifying.

An Ohio public school has been giving students extra credit for watching videos from PragerU, a right-wing website that produces clips of talking heads such as Candace Owens and Ben Shapiro discussing conservative viewpoints, HuffPost has learned.

The PragerU videos — with titles such as “Build the Wall,” “Why the Right Was Right” and “The Left Ruins Everything” — were assigned to a 10th-grade history class at Maumee High School, along with a series of questions about the videos’ “most important messages…”

“We constantly hear from educators and teachers who use our videos in the classroom,” Strazzeri said. He declined to disclose how many public school teachers specifically joined the new program. “Ideally, every school in America would show PragerU videos in the classroom on a regular basis to help educate the next generation.”

Well, in my case, the County Registrar’s office is a 45 minute round trip and I put my ballot in a drop box in a location so boring that the library next door just puts the books you request out on a table for you to pick up during the 15 minute window you select. So far as I know no one has stolen any of those. Also, with ballot tracking I know the county got it.

I think that is changing in some places. State and local Republican strongholds have been that way for awhile, and in some cases a harder nut to crack. It’s not impossible but a candidate has to be ready for a shitstorm and fight harder some times than a federal level office.

We have a sheriff in our county who has an actual challenger for the first time in years. This sheriff has had deaths in the county jail that he refused to even acknowledge at one point. He was also fined 10k for campaign finance violations back in June. And of course he’s a Republican. His challenger a democrat seems to be competent and is more about rehabilitation than punishment. We’ll see how the county residents feel about all that soon.

The Superman of 1938/39 would take Trump up to a great height, and repeatedly play “drop him, then catch him” until Trump was scared into submission, or would stick him in a substandard mineshaft and collapse the supports, trapping him there until he repented, or in an extreme case would throw or dropkick him a great distance until he landed on his neck, snapping it.

Early Golden Age Superman, Champion of the Oppressed, may have played around, but he didn’t “play around,” if you take my meaning.

Just because we are seeing historic early voting does not mean the total vote count will be similarly historic.

Now, I do expect Biden to get more popualr votes than Hillary, possibly a lot more.

Just sayin’, don’t try to scale up total votes by the ratio of early votes.

I know a grand total of 3 people who voted for Trump (there are a few more I have suspicions about, but don’t know for sure.) Anyway, a neighbor who “would have voted for Trump twice if I could” in 2016 is now disenchanted and while she won’t vote for Biden, she also won’t vote for Trump this time.

Trump’s strategy of running against Dr. Fauci is working out wonderfully for him./

Incidentally, one of Biden’s first ceremonial acts should be to give Fauci a second Presidential Medal of Freedom. He received the first one from President Bush in 2008

President Bush Honors Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipients

Bush:

“Three decades ago, a mysterious and terrifying plague began to take the lives of people across the world. Before this malady even had a name, it had a fierce opponent in Dr. Anthony Fauci. As the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for more than 23 years, Tony Fauci has led the fight against HIV and AIDS. He was also a leading architect and champion of the Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, which over the past five years has reached millions of people — preventing HIV infections in infants and easing suffering and bringing dying communities back to life.”

“The man who would lead the fight against this dreaded disease came from an Italian American family in Brooklyn. Even as a boy, Tony was distinguished by his courage. In a neighborhood full of Brooklyn Dodgers fans — (laughter) — he rooted for the Yankees. (Laughter.) Tony earned a full scholarship to Regis High School, a Jesuit school in Manhattan. And he still quotes what he learned from Jesuit teaching: “Precision of thought, economy of expression.” And now you know why he never ran for public office. (Laughter.)”

“Those who know Tony do admit one flaw: sometimes he forgets to stop working. He regularly puts in 80-hour weeks. And from time to time, he’s even found notes on his windshield left by coworkers that say things like, “Go home. You’re making me feel guilty.” (Laughter.) A friend once commented that Tony was so obsessed with work that his wife must be a pretty patient woman. The truth of the matter is, she’s very busy herself. Christine Grady is a renowned bioethicist. And together they raised three talented daughters: Jennifer, Meghan, and Allison. And I hope each of you know that for all Tony has accomplished, he considers you to be one of his — not one of his — his most important achievement. Your love and support have strengthened him as he works to save lives across the world.”

“For his determined and aggressive efforts to help others live longer and healthier lives, I’m proud to award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Dr. Anthony S. Fauci.”(Applause.)

Economist finally updated its site for the first time in 3 days. Biden up 350-188, and Pennsylvania and Nevada hit 90 percent probability. Trump chances down to 7 percent, his lowest level yet.

There has been quite a battle of late between the Economist’s G. Elliott Morris and 538’s Nate Silver.

It’s a different world on Predictit, where Trump winning the popular vote remains at 20 cents. By way of comparison, Silver gives Trump a 4 percent chance of winning the popular vote. The Predictit comments within each market are also an utter cesspool of conspiracy theories and insults.

Trump and Pence were both boasting of how they were out there helping farmers and lobstermen across the nation.

Trump’s disastrous and idiotic trade war killed the foreign markets for lobstermen and fishermen, and did the same for agribusinesses.

That’s why Trump needed a massive bailout for those industries. It wasn’t because we were winning. It’s because they were bankrupting these businesses due to Trump’s idiotic policies.

The trade war did lasting damage.

The pandemic response doubled down on the damage. It took a recession and turned it into a full blown collapse.

That’s not particularly surprising. Trump won by taking a minority of votes nationwide and being loathed by a majority of Americans even before he started his disastrous term, and before his failed covid19 response.

He wasn’t a strong candidate. He was a candidate who benefited from foreign interference, Comey ratfucking, and about 70,000 people in three states voting 3d party instead of Hillary. That GOPers are doing worse than Trump now shows he has no coattails to speak of and yet the GOP continues defending Trump at all costs, refuses to speak out against his dumbfuckery, and even those who attempt to complain about Trump do so obliquely and so weakly that it barely registers (Sen. Alexander, we’re looking at you).
