re: #2 Dr Lizardo
Not getting his military parade I take it.
re: #2 Dr Lizardo
He was trying to go out with all the pomp and circumstance that USG could muster - AF1, band, 21 gun salute, etc.
He leaves as the most corrupt, incompetent, and twice impeached, facing prosecutions and investigations in multiple jurisdictions, and no locality wants to host him or his family. He’s a pariah and turned the nation into one.
re: #3 Yeah Sure WhatEVs
Not getting his military parade I take it.
Fucking hell.
He will be sent off with a departure ceremony at Joint Base Andrews, according to a person familiar with the planning who spoke on condition of anonymity because Trump’s plans have not been formally announced. Officials are considering an elaborate event that would have the feel of a state visit, with a red carpet, color guard, military band and 21-gun salute all being discussed.
re: #2 Dr Lizardo
He’s going to Mar-A-Grifto I suspect.
But at least this confirms what we all suspected: Trump is a pussy and wuss who ultimately will NOT try to barricade himself in the Oval office or do similar crazy shit.

That’ll be interesting as he’s not supposed to live there. Let’s see how the city manages that.
If Trump really wants a military sendoff he can have one.
How about an official US Military firing squad?
re: #2 Dr Lizardo
The funny thing is, cameras will all be focused on the inauguration specifically to see if the people he’s incited will try to do anything. He’s created the conditions for people to ignore him.
I’m happy to see that Pelosi has appointed Russel Honore to review the Capitol Police.
He won’t be afraid to break his foot off in someone’s ass if need be.

Interesting scenario - since Trump will undoubtedly fly out on a government aircraft (historically this has been Air Force One) - what are the odds that he attempts to divert the flight to some location that he feels would be out of the reach of the FBI or other law enforcement agencies? And would those attempts be summarily denied as he would not have any executive authority as ex-President?
Osama bin Laden got a military send off to the bottom of the Atlantic, but I wouldn’t wish that for Trump. The hagfish might get sick.

re: #47 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

True, that!
Holy shit
Federal prosecutors offered the most chilling description yet of rioters who seized the Capitol last week, writing in a new court filing that the intention was “to capture and assassinate elected officials,” CNN reports.
“The view was included in a memo seeking to keep Jacob Anthony Chansley, who rallied people inside the Capitol using a bullhorn, in detention. According to Capitol Police information included in the filing, Chansley was notable for his headdress, face paint and carrying of a six-foot spear.”
Wrote prosecutors: “Strong evidence, including Chansley’s own words and actions at the Capitol, supports that the intent of the Capitol rioters was to capture and assassinate elected officials in the United States government.”

there is so much going on these days. but what i keep coming back to is that if the capitol police had been anything close to properly mobilized, none of it would have happened.
there would have been a protest on january 6, not an insurrection. five people wouldn’t be dead. members of congress and capitol staff wouldn’t have been terrorized. donald trump wouldn’t be impeached.
all but for a still inexplicable decision made by who-knows-who.
because we still don’t know how it was allowed to happen.
….(snip)….
speaks to motive
i have tried to consider the possibility that it was just gross incompetence. but no one could really be that incompetent.
so at this point, in the absence of any other plausible explanations, it is more than reasonable to assume that the people making decisions about capitol police deployment that day felt kinship with the trump mob, and either were too racist to see the threat posed by trump supporters or looked the other way on purpose

I do have to amend my statement somewhat. When military planes fly, the FAA generally isn’t involved other than a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) that there are military planes operating in XYZ area, and to avoid that airspace lest you get intercepted. (Aside: If you are a pilot and you get intercepted, the proper response is to set your radio to the emergency frequency and do EXACTLY what they tell you. IMMEDIATELY.) If it was Air Force One, it could certainly re-route mid-flight, though this would raise a whole bunch of eyebrows in control towers across the country, and probably make a few people rather upset as they have to update the NOTAM and hope and pray any civilian traffic doesn’t get caught in the new flight path.
Excellent point here.

Then in that case, my earlier statement would apply. Any attempt to divert would result in increasingly agitated calls from ground control, and a visit from his former friends in the Air Force out of the nearest air base if the pilot failed to comply. The pilot would probably lose his license.

It’s good that Biden’s plan includes more substantial direct payments, but what is the rationale for reducing $2000 to $1400? Because there was already a $600 payment? Why are Democrats negotiating with themselves?

re: #129 Charles Johnson
I see that $2k and how some could be confused that it would be $2600 and not $2000. It all depends on your starting point.
The thing is that if you look at it as $2600, that comes down to all of $8.67 a day since March. ($2600 divided by 10 months and 30 days per).
The talk about $2000 total reduces that to all of $6.67.
We’re almost in the you can support a starving child in Africa for a few dollars a day territory. As a nation we are well and truly fucked when we’re more concerned about the cost of a relief plan to save people from losing their homes and businesses and more concerned that the tax breaks continue for billionaires and millionaires who have made out like bandits during the pandemic. The people hardest hit are also those least able to avoid the pandemic as essential workers doing jobs that can’t be done remotely. They can’t work at home; they have to go to work to stock shelves, clean businesses, etc.
Is this negotiating against themselves or just bad optics. I think it’s more the latter than the former. There’s enough info to say that they were always going to try and get to $2k, not $2,600. Either way, I think it’s still not enough support.
No matter what, the GOP will move to shrink the amount citing debt. Fuck ‘em. They made everything about the pandemic worse and the economy went into the shitter thanks to Trump and the GOP obstructionism. Ignore the calls for fiscal responsibility unless it’s met with: tax the income of those making $1million or more at 80% and let that include long term cap gains for good measure. That’ll put a dent in the debt.

Whether the military officers piloting the plane would comply with such an order is another question. It also sets up the absurd situation where Trump is commander-in-chief when he gives the order at the start of the flight, but ceases to be anything but a private citizen somewhere en route, leading the pilots turn the plane around.

Watch for ballparks to be used as vaccination centers in larger metropolitan areas. Incentivize companies to give employees paid time off (even hourly) for getting vaccinated. Expect companies to provide in office vaccination (I got a flu shot at one company when the CEO had a nurse come in and jab everyone in a single day). Send vaccination vans into rural areas…vaccinate schools of children (and their parents) at the same time. There are ways to get around bottlenecks if we’re willing.

In addition to adding people ages 65 and older to the next phase of COVID-19 vaccine recipients, Nebraska state health officials also are working with health care systems to further define what high-risk medical conditions will be included.Angie Ling, incident commander for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, cautioned that the addition of those groups will add 400,000 or more people to the next vaccine group, a list it will take about four months to work through.
“Just know it will take time, so you need to be patient,” Ling said Thursday during a weekly vaccination update via Facebook Live. “We are very happy to see so many people want to get vaccine, and we will get you served just as soon as we can.”

“Born of woman?” That’s a call-out to phrasing in the Bible, specifically about the birth of Jesus (I guess the implication is if he has any friends, they aren’t Christians or something? Is he trying to compare himself to Jesus?)
(All verses ESV)
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.—Galatians 4:4-5
What is man, that he can be pure? Or he who is born of a woman, that he can be righteous?—Job 15:14
it’s a little editorializing on the part of the gospel writer. A major, attractive heresy of the day was that Jesus was simply God taking the form of a human, kind of like Gandalf being an Ishtari who just took on the shape of a man as a convenient way of trraveling amongst the riff-raff. It was necessary to state he was “born of a woman” in order to impress on listeners that Christ was not just play acting. He really was a human being. He really did die as a human being, even while being as well the Son of God.
