Why is this even a consideration?

Oh yeah, we have a dysfunctional health care system that still leaves millions with minimal or no coverage.

Evolution does not favour conservatism (that is, organisms which canā€™t or wonā€™t adapt to changing conditions).

Political conservatism is no different, which is why weā€™re now seeing almost all deaths from Covid-19 in the USA from the unvaccinated.

There is plenty of information out there if they want a vaccine, and with small exceptions to areas where distribution is difficult or in short supply, available everywhere.

To my mind it seems effort should now be put into those who cannot get vaccinated for legitimate reasons, or for whom they donā€™t work well.

They have chosen their fate. Mitigation for those who have no choice seems to be the best strategy now (along with healthy mockery of wingnuts).

Bank Accountsā€¦ā€¦

In the 1980s Miami-Dade was awash in construction projects and not enough county engineers & building inspectors. At that time, South Fl was flush with massive cash from drug transactions needing laundering.

Condo construction was a favorite method of legitimizing cash at that time.

In the mid 1980s Miami-Dade indicted more than a few contractors for various
construction shortcuts, fraud & other malfeasance.

One of the contractors indicted for paying off building inspectors at that time was
a client.

If you live in a S FL condo constructed in the 1980s, I would consider moving.

To wit: In the early 2000s I was subsequently employed by a consulting firm in an international bank office building on Brickle Ave.. Every time I parked in the garage, I looked up to see concrete spalling from water intrusion to the extent that I wondered if my car would be hit by falling concrete from the ceiling while parked.

if it were an honest argument, the question should be when in the seamless progression from long before fertilization to birth, it ā€˜becomesā€™ a single, discrete human life with some (in the US) constitutional rights and protections

when selecting that point, explaining why that point and not some other point.
and also how those rights are to be squared with those of the actual pregnant person.

but they were never about this - theyā€™re not trying to define when / whether it has rights

they want to instill in the blastocyst/zygote/embryo/fetus the superior power to compel another actually existing and born human into subjugation to it, and have that power enforced by the state

There is a metric fuquetonne of Christian apologetics on why ā€œkillā€ was changed to ā€œmurderā€ to justify some killings (like state executions or warfare).

The claim is based on the King James Version ā€œmistranslatingā€ the word from Exodus 20:13. I am not a Hebrew speaker or scholar (plus I donā€™t give a crap about Bible claims except how people try to impose them on me), so I canā€™t say if the KJV mistranslated the word or not.

As President I had the chance to review requests for clemency from people who were incarcerated. It was a task I never took lightly, since I knew my decision could change the course of someoneā€™s life.

That was certainly true for John Gargano, Jr. I granted John clemency in 2016, and just last month, he graduated from New York University with an impressive 3.9 GPA and a Bachelor of Science in Leadership and Management Studies.

John grew up on a small vegetable farm in New Jersey. He later moved to Philadelphia after high school and began working various jobs to make ends meet. While there, he started using and selling drugs and was ultimately arrested and sentenced to 30 years in prison, despite being a non-violent first-time offender. For the first three years he was incarcerated, John didnā€™t want to talk to anyone. But he eventually vowed that he ā€œwould refuse to allow his sentence to break himā€ and turned to education to ā€œinspire and restore his hope for the future.ā€ He started taking classes through the Ohio University College Program for the Incarcerated, and helped others prepare for their GED.

After John was granted clemency, the transition out of the criminal justice system wasnā€™t easy. But he credits family and programs like the Coming Home Project at St. Lukeā€™s Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, the Three Strikes Project, and the Colleges Initiative at John Jay College for helping him make it through. In 2017, John enrolled at Hostos Community College and graduated with a 4.0 GPA and an Associateā€™s degree in Business Management. In 2019, he transferred to NYU on a scholarship where he continued to excel in his studies, participating in their Leadership Fellows program and working as a manager at a restaurant. He also worked to help others who were incarcerated find jobs or pursue higher education.

Last month, John was selected by his classmates to serve as NYUā€™s undergraduate student convocation speaker. Today, he works as a general manager at one of Chef Tom Colicchioā€™s restaurants in New York City and is an advocate for prison reform. Johnā€™s life is a testament to the power of a second chanceā€”and I could not be prouder of him.

Wyoming couple marries hours before man dies of COVID (Scottsbluff, Nebr. Star-Herald, twenty minutes ago)

Patty Edwards had spent her morning like most days that month ā€” thinking longingly about her ex-husband.

But this January day, something was different. The movie she was watching, some made-for-TV romance in which a long-separated husband and wife reconnect after years apart, felt like a sign. In an instant, she knew what she needed to do.

She got up and dressed. Her roommate approached and asked where she was headed.

ā€œIā€™m going to get married, ā€ Patty told her.

ā€œAnd she said, ā€˜Who are you marrying?ā€™ā€ Patty recalled. ā€œAnd I said, ā€˜Victor,ā€™ and she said, ā€˜Does he know that?ā€™ I said, ā€˜Not yet, but he will.ā€™ā€

Victor answered Pattyā€™s call from his hospital bed at Wyoming Medical Center. She told him exactly what sheā€™d explained to her roommate moments before.

ā€œWho are you marrying?ā€ Victor asked.

ā€œYou,ā€ she answered.

***

They were married shortly after Pattyā€™s 19th birthday. They had three children together and lived happily in Casper for 14 years.

ā€œIā€™m not going to sit here and say that our marriage wasnā€™t a good one, because it was, but like I told you before, I was 17, he was almost 30. He was ready to settle down, and I guess I wasnā€™t,ā€ Patty said.

After more than a decade, they split up. But they couldnā€™t stay apart. They each left Casper at different points, sometimes together and sometimes separately. When Patty at one point adopted her new partnerā€™s son, Victor drove to Nebraska to help raise him.

Theyā€™d both thought about getting remarried. Victor had asked Patty a handful of times over the years, and Patty had asked Victor once years ago, too. But the timing was never right.

Dr. Robert Malone is another of those who claimed to invent the mRNA vaccine, in his case whilst he worked at the Salk Institute in 1988.

A search for him in a search engine only turns up right-wing sites such as Townhall, Christian publications, or FOX News.

Jim Hoftā€™s Home for the Clinically Insane has a clip of him appearing on Tucker Carlsonā€™s show last night to complain about YouTube deleting his video outlining the ā€œrisks of the vaccine given to children.ā€

In PubMed, there are a lot of different Robert Malones with papers (RE, RM, RW Malone, &c), but none of those papers seem to deal with mRNA vaccines at all.

I used to post a lot of Gateway Pundit when I was a Pajamanoid. Four months away from political blogs from the 2008 Election to one month after Obamaā€™s inauguration was enough to detox and break the spell in my case.

Of course, I was a liberal before 9/11 and identified as a ā€œliberal hawkā€ in the lead up to Iraq and afterward, so it was probably easier for me to deprogram myself than someone marinated in far right conservatism since Reaganā€™s first term.

This surprises no one here Iā€™m sure. What is surprising though is the level of hatred and their pure numbers here in America compared to other countries who also have a right wing problem. Americaā€™s problem is double that of any other polled country.

Also what should surprise no one here is the complete destruction of ā€œboth sidesā€ argument where both the Left and Right authoritarians are equally at fault or in numbers. This myth is finally put to rest. This poll is a further example of the toxic stew that traditional American Entitlement mindset has when bolstered by decades of lying right wing propaganda by Fox News.

The Tour covers several thousand kilometres of racing on public roads over three weeks or so. The organisers canā€™t fence off or police the verges and roadsides of any given dayā€™s race route and they canā€™t stop spectators coming out in their tens of thousands to watch the Tour riders go by. Hey there, itā€™s time for The Morning Heresy news roundup, custom-curated for Earth-beings.

The Big Important UFO Report has been released! And itā€™s not aliens.

Now, to see the headlines, you would be forgiven if you thought that the military is refusing to rule out the possibility that weā€™re being visited by extraterrestrialsā€¦because thatā€™s what the headlines are literally saying.

ā€œU.S. Has No Explanation for Unidentified Objects and Stops Short of Ruling Out Aliens,ā€ says the New York Times. ā€œNo ET, no answers: Intel report is inconclusive about UFOs,ā€ says the AP headline. NBC News: ā€œUFO report: No evidence of alien spacecraft, but canā€™t rule it out.ā€

These would be perfectly reasonable headlines if, in fact, they were true. But look at the actual report. The Pentagon doesnā€™t ā€œrule outā€ aliens because it never mentions them. Not once. There is no sentence, bullet point, or footnote of any kind that even hints that ā€œwe canā€™t rule out aliens.ā€ It simply never comes up. There are many instances of unidentified aerial phenomena that the Pentagon admits it is unable to explain, but not being able to explain something does not equate to ruling-in.

By the logic of these headlines, the Pentagonā€™s UFO report also cannot rule out:

Wizards
Dragons
Olympian gods
A glitch in the Matrix because hey man what if weā€™re actually in a simulation

More from CFI:

Massachusetts is poised to take a critical step toward protecting school children from preventable diseases. But those who think that private religious beliefs are more important than public health are standing in the way of keeping future pandemics out of our schoolsā€”even though no major religion prohibits vaccinations.

A dangerous legal loophole exists in Massachusetts, enabling parents to opt out of school vaccination requirements simply if they claim vaccines conflict with their religious beliefs. Removing this loophole will save lives.

We need your help to support House Bill 2411 (goes to the Massachusetts Legislature). This bill keeps in place the existing medically based exemption but eliminates the religious beliefs exemption and closes the loophole. (more)

Massachusetts: Donā€™t let the next pandemic slip into schools through the religious loophole.

Meanwhile, Ohio is doing the opposite; trying to repeal mandatory vaccination programmes and even making it illegal for an employer to ask a customer or employee if theyā€™ve received a vaccine.

The so-called ā€œEnact Vaccine Choice and Anti-Discrimination Actā€ (H.B.248 [goes to the Ohio House, currently in committee]) would effectively prevent the public sector and all private businesses from requiring that their employees or patrons be vaccinated. From health care providers to public schools at every level of education, the bill would prohibit even asking about an individualā€™s vaccination status. And it would give individuals the right to sue if this new ā€œrightā€ were violated.

Jesus also invented conservatives to force everyone else to follow their ideas of Jesus.

In areas like mine where there are no Christian schools (something not enough money in it), they have to use other means to enforce their indoctrination. The easiest way to do that is subvert state laws to their religion.

Unfortunately, while it does protect children in public schools while they are at school, it doesnā€™t protect them whenever they are anywhere else in public. Those disease vectors are shopping at the mall, are attending amusement parks, are at public playgroundsā€¦ they can infect a host of innocent bystanders because of the religious (or political) fanaticism of their parents.

Oppression never sleeps: The Roman Catholic Church, not busy enough with covering up genocide and sexual assault, still has time to force women into their ideas of morality, with an assist from our conservative-packed courts.

When a Catholic school art teacher was asked to take on extra responsibilities, she requested a raise, explaining that she was about to have a baby.

Weeks later, she was fired from her New Jersey elementary school. The principal, a Roman Catholic nun, told her she was being terminated ā€œbecause she was pregnant and unmarried,ā€ court records show.

The woman sued. Her daughter is now 7, but the lawsuit remains in limbo, caught in a yearslong back-and-forth between New Jerseyā€™s trial and appellate courts.

An appeals court has twice sided with the ex-teacher, Victoria Crisitello. But last month, the stateā€™s highest court, acting on an appeal by the school, agreed to hear the case, signaling a willingness to wade into the highly charged debate over the relationship between the government and religion.

Its decision comes less than a year after the United States Supreme Court upheld the rights of church-run schools to terminate lay teachers, one of a string of recent decisions by a court far more likely to rule in favor of religious rights than not.

An Unmarried Catholic Schoolteacher Got Pregnant. She Was Fired.

The organisation is immoral and wholly corrupt.

Panhandle Public Health District Vaccination Billboard

The billboards put up on rural highways in Nebraskaā€™s Panhandle make a direct vaccination pitch to the regionā€™s ranchers.

ā€œYou wouldnā€™t skip vaccinating your cattle,ā€ say the signs featuring two head of black Angus. ā€œDonā€™t skip getting vaccinated for COVID-19.ā€

Talk about herd immunity.

But despite such targeted messaging, Nebraskaā€™s rural communities have a long way to go to reach the levels of vaccination needed to end the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vaccination rates in rural Nebraska badly lag those in urban parts of the state. In fact, Nebraskaā€™s rural rates are among the lowest in the region, according to a World-Herald analysis of county vaccination data.

Roughly 40% of Nebraska adults living in rural areas are fully vaccinated, compared with more than 60% of those living in the stateā€™s metro areas.

Whatā€™s more, the county-level data submitted to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggest that Nebraskaā€™s rural-urban vaccination divide is the widest in the nation. And Nebraskaā€™s rural vaccination gap among the vulnerable 65-and-over age group also appears to be the nationā€™s biggest.

According to the article, of the twelve counties in PPHD (the Panhandle plus Grant), the highest vaccination rate is Garden County (seat Oshkosh, 43.5%) sixteen miles to the east, and the lowest is Grant (seat Hyannis, 15.6%).

The county with the highest population (Scottā€™s Bluff, seat Gering) is at 36.4%. The second-largest (Cheyenne, seat Sidney) is at 41%.

My county (Morrill, seat Bridgeport) is at 33.4%. As I noted yesterday, when my wife and I went to the supermarket in Bridgeport, we were literally the only people wearing masks (including the employees).

My niece is sending her children to a Jewish day school that is similarly priced for elementary school. The school is nowhere near as convenient as the public schools, but she feels they are getting a better education (I donā€™t have the information to judge the quality of education at the various nearby Chicago public schools). But the one ā€œamusingā€ sidelight was that the school sent a note to the parents that, once they are eligible, all students must get the COVID vaccine if they wished to continue at the school. Several parents went ballistic at that note. I believe that these parents themselves were vaccinated but they objected to their children being forced to get the vaccine. The school withdrew that requirement. For now all students are masked unless they are dining.

For the longest time, myself and one other person were the only ones there. Yesterday and today, Iā€™ve been on campus in my airconditioned office. Not too many people on campus. Iā€™m not sure how most people are staying safe. I expected more people at both the cooling center and campus.

Yesterday I got text messages, the power was off at my apartment from about 2pm to 4:30pm. I donā€™t know how widespread the outage was. When I was coming home from campus, there was a bucket truck working on the power lines.

Itā€™s taking a toll on Teddy.

Those cranes are preventing the gator from crossing the street. There must be a nest they donā€™t want it getting near.

20 bodies were found on a boat floating in the Atlantic, and no one knows who they are or how they died (Business Insider, today)

Authorities in the Turks and Caicos Islands are trying to find out what killed 20 people whose bodies were found on a boat floating near Grand Turk island on Thursday.

Fishermen spotted the boat drifting about a mile off Grand Turk last Thursday morning, and they alerted the marine branch of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, the Associated Press reported.

In a Friday press release, the police said that while the ā€œdeaths are unexplained, there is no indication of foul play.ā€

ā€œWork is now underway to establish their identity, the cause of death and the circumstances that led them to be found in the Turks and Caicos Islands waters,ā€ the press release said.

The police believe the boat came from outside the Caribbean region, and do not believe the Turks and Caicos were its destination.
