Team Trump quietly launches new social media platform | Politico

The brains behind the new socials is Jason Miller, he who impregnates exotic dancers and secretly puts abortifacients in their drinks, this sexual dynamo:

It’s called… GETTR. Like… GETTR DUN!!! ?

Yoga instructor arrested for his involvement in the Capitol riot

Noah Bacon was arrested Wednesday by the FBI for trespassing in the U.S. Senate chambers on January 6 after taking part in the rioters’ effort to force their way past police in the Capitol building.

The arrest rioter appears to be the Noah S. Bacon who presents himself at “High Heart Meditation,” where he exalts his would-be followers to “Breath In, Breath Out” and “Be in the Moment.”

Unfortunately for Bacon, he was captured being in the moment of the Capitol riot in a video posted by the New Yorker magazine. That prompted a witness who knew Bacon to tip off the FBI, leading to his arrest.

They also have other people they can flip or interrogate for information, such as the Riverside building owner and private school who accepted cheques from the Trump Organisation.

The filing also repeats “and others” in furtherance of the alleged conspiracy to defraud tax authorities. They also entangled other entities such as Mar-a-Grifto, his ice rink company, and his golf courses.

Financial crimes usually take a long time to unwind, but I’ll bet Weiselberg doesn’t want to spend the rest of his life in jail, or see his children go to jail.

Republicans appear to have a hard ceiling of about 47% of the electorate, so if 51+% vote Democratic, the Democrat will normally win. But 3% of the electorate can flip the election to the GOP by switching their vote to third party candidates.

I just shared this on Facebook and wrote …

Sometimes I have to remind myself how rare certain kinds of knowledge are, and to not judge people who aren’t aware of certain facts. Still. Allowing for Americans who have a vague sense of who each Justice is and could quickly look up the full list online, and all the younglings and infirm, this number is surprisingly low to me. I guess it’s partly the result of a nerdy upbringing in an educated suburb of NYC, but I’m sad there aren’t more civics geeks these days. Being a good citizen is like being a good fan — you’ve got to know the players!
Now I’ll embarrass myself in the comments and try to get all nine without looking. And this does spot you Breyer, who’s one of the harder to name.

Then I wrote up the first comment …

OK here we go. Breyer (who should retire), Kagan and Sotomayor are the liberals. Roberts, Alito, and Thomas are the old guard conservatives. And then we’ve got Trump’s three conservatives, Gorsuch (the seat that should have gone to Garland in Obama’s last year), Brett “I like beer” Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett, who’s been warming Ginsburg’s seat since her crazy COVID-friendly launch party in the fall.
Huh. That’s actually really easy. More people need to know this. 🙂

this doc focuses mostly on weisselberg - what he didnt report and pay. tangentially on what the trump org didnt report on W-2s

what i didnt see (or missed) is how all those expenditures were recorded on the books of the company. because you know they were somehow, right?

and not as salary.

that’s the other side of this coin. the trump org took tax deductions for payments that were not company related expenditures.

they’ve barely begun
stay tuned

its possible but the general rule is not
not if it’s the same work under the same conditions/circumstances etc and controlled by the same people.

a good example that has worked in the past:
- your day job is office clerk - employee. they set the hours, the desk, the phone, the conditions, the co-workers, the procedures.

- your night job is cleaning offices.
you control when you come and go, what equipment you use (your own), you can bring your own staff
you clean that very same office and you also have other clients.
that would likely be non employee compensation.

Pew research study via today’s electoral-vote.com

For one thing, turnout was much higher in 2020 than in 2016, and fully a quarter of the 2020 voters did not vote in 2016. That’s a huge change in the electorate. Both Biden and Trump brought in new voters. They basically split the 19% voters whose first ballot was cast in the 2020 election, with Biden taking 49% of those and Trump 47%. However, Biden absolutely trounced Trump among the 6% of voters whose first ballot was cast in 2018 and second was cast in 2020, 62% to 36%. To put that another way, Trump clearly inspired a lot of new voters in 2018—to come out and vote against him (or, at least, his party) in the midterms.

There is an interstate compact for states to send police to other states, but those states are supposed to pay for it. No word from Gov. Abbott of Texas if their state is going to pay for any of this from Nebraska, Iowa, Idaho, or other states.

Have to say our former corrupt Catholic governor, George Ryan, was indeed pro-life. He might have gone to prison for selling licenses for bribes when he was secretary of state (which led to an unqualified trucker causing the deaths of 6 children) but he did put a moratorium on capital punishment.

I don’t see how she gets around being utterly loathed for betraying dear leader.

She’s already loathed and going to face primary challenges from the Q-right.

Nothing to lose from staking a relatively consistent position and helping provide the bipartisanship that shorts out some of the avalanche of lies that will be tossed at the select committee by FOX & minions and the other right-wing media.

And as the facts do come out it will be interesting to see how many of her most vocal critics turn out to be heavily involved, or at least knowledgeable in advance, of what what going to be attempted. Now whether that causes a leadership crisis in the GOP would remain to be seen, but it’s probably her most likely route to holding onto office.

I am also not sure how well the Q-GOP base holds together once Trump dies. I seriously doubt any of his children can successfully pick up the mantle. And part of the Trump thing was that he was anti-politicians and any of the current GOP wannabes *are* known politicians who will be viewed as parasites simply trying to latch onto the bandwagon.

You see, the Nebraska Department of Education hires people who promote education, not conservative religion. They are also lying about the department; they have responded.

As for the parents, they are being whipped up by conservative prelates in the Unicameral. They must have a culture war.

LINCOLN, Neb. — Thirty Nebraska state senators are sending a message to school boards across the state. They say they are opposing the Department of Education’s proposed new health education standards.

The first draft of those standards was released in March. It details what topics they suggest children should learn at each grade, including subjects like gender identity. Some of the state senators argue the subject matter is inappropriate for children.

The lawmakers join a growing group against the standards. They say despite three months of feedback from parents, the Nebraska Department of Education has not been responsive to their objections and concerns.

Since all conservatives lie, the idea of “taking local control of education standards” is a bunch of hogwash. The proposed state standards are guidelines, not a mandate.

Considering how vociferous Republican politicians in this state have been about the subject of acknowledging sex and LGBT+ people exist, I wouldn’t be surprised if they inspire violence against the Education Board or individual school boards or teachers.

That would be similar to the violence and threats they have inspired against public health officials over the last year and a half.

All it takes is one wingnut to make a bad day for a lot of other people.

Group of 30 state senators voices opposition to proposed health education standards (KSID, Sidney, Nebr.)

That’s five years you can’t work another job at all (plus the additional time spent running for the office).

Plus “five years” isn’t really how the pension works:

Congressional pension is a pension made available to members of the United States Congress. As of 2019, members who participated in the congressional pension system are vested after five years of service. A full pension is available to members 62 years of age with 5 years of service; 50 years or older with 20 years of service; or 25 years of service at any age. A reduced pension is available depending upon which of several different age/service options is chosen. If Members leave Congress before reaching retirement age, they may leave their contributions behind and receive a deferred pension later

This has a real “criminal complaining about being caught” vibe.

I don’t know there, Mr. Trump, if you have nothing to hide, surely you’d be willing to testify under oath in open court? Isn’t that how conservatives frame these things?

BELLAIRE, Ohio — Famed former adult actress Stormy Daniels will return to Ohio for the first time since she received nearly half a million dollars for a wrongful arrest from the City of Columbus.

Daniels, who has found a niche as a paranormal investigator, will visit a small village east of Marietta to film part of a television series. During the Ohio visit, Daniels will be joined by her close friend, Justin Loupe, and Ohio-based author and fellow paranormal investigator, Kristin Lee; the trio will conduct a public paranormal investigation at a proclaimed haunted house east of Marietta.

Built-in 1847 on the banks of the Ohio River, the Bellaire House located in Bellaire is reputed to be one of the most haunted houses in America, according to Daniels’ team. Since the early twentieth century, it has earned a reputation as a hotbed of paranormal activity, with reports of apparitions, curses, psychic assaults, and violence.

Daniels has been filming a television series titled “Spooky Babes” where she and Loupe explore paranormal activity around the world. The event in Bellaire will take place on October 9 and a limited number of tickets are being sold to the public to join the team in their overnight investigation, as well as meet-and-greet tickets. The event will also be streamed on a pay-per-view livestream.

Every day I go completely into “whatintheactualfuck” mode at least once. He’s calling for what amounts to the execution of a surely traumatized police officer. This crowd of people acted like they had the right to break windows and destroy property, the right to drag elected officials and their staff out of their offices and the floors where the business of Congress is done and hurt or kill them. They weren’t shy, they knew they were allowed to by government officials. They built a fucking gallows that looked ready to go within sight of the building for fucks sake.

At this point, I really don’t think a single soul who was there to stop the process of certification of the election that day deserves the benefit of the doubt anymore. The more I find out about that day, the more it’s blatantly obvious what the goals were and everyone there was aware of it, there was damned near no way NOT to know it.

I took my son to the Japan House at the University of Illinois campus a couple of weeks ago. He was thrilled to see a Japanese-style gazebo-like structure for relaxing and viewing the gardens that was made and donated by Offerman’s woodworking studio. He is an alum and spent some time at the first Japan House when he was a student that was really an old home with some space made for tea ceremony. The current House was made by Japanese experts and has two tea ceremony rooms.

A picture is worth a thousand words. So these two pictures tell you two thousand words worth of Ashley Babbit’s. He is demonstrably incompetent.

As of yet we don’t know who actually shot the insurrectionist. So in addition to trying to imply the officer is not competent, he’s also trying to out this officer (whether he is the person who shot her or not).

As much as I’ve dug into him, I can’t find out anything about him before starting Palmer Report.

Looking now, Wikipedia has an article about Palmer Report and Bill Palmer. Someone over there is better at digging than I am (well, that’s not terribly surprising).

Palmer Report is an American left wing and conspiratorial[3][4] political blog,[5] founded in 2016 and based in Los Angeles, California.[6] It is written by Bill Palmer, along with a number of other contributors.[7] The Palmer Report is a hyperpartisan site,[8][9][10] that is known for making unsubstantiated or false claims.[11][12] Palmer previously ran a site called Daily News Bin, described by Snopes editor Brooke Binkowski as “basically a pro-Hillary Clinton ‘news site’”.[13] The site has built a following based on conspiracy theories about Donald Trump going to prison.[14]

‘People want it to be true’: Inside the growing influence of a mysterious anti-Trump website (May 16, 2017)

Last Wednesday, Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts appeared on CNN and made a seemingly startling claim.

“Subpoenas have now been issued in northern Virginia with regard to Flynn and Gen. Flynn’s associates,” Markey said, referring to former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. “A grand jury has been impaneled up in New York.”

One of those things was mostly true. CNN reported Tuesday that federal prosecutors out of the US attorney’s office in Alexandria, Virginia, had issued subpoenas to associates of Flynn as part of the ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. But his assertion about a grand jury being impaneled in New York puzzled one reporter who was watching.

Matt Ford, a criminal-justice reporter for The Atlantic, tweeted, with a link to the CNN clip: “Markey’s claim at ~1:45ish is the first I’ve heard of a grand jury being impaneled in New York.”

Slip of the tongue? Wrong US attorney’s office?

Not quite. Amid the confusion, a Markey aide pointed to the website the Palmer Report as one of Markey’s sources for the grand-jury claim.

Why Is A Top Harvard Law Professor Sharing Anti-Trump Conspiracy Theories? (Buzzfeed, May 11, 2017)

But some of the country’s leading liberal lights — respected figures including elected officials, prominent legal scholars, members of the media, and celebrities — are themselves sharing wild allegations about the Trump administration from unreliable sources.

Perhaps no one embodies this trend so well as Laurence Tribe. Tribe is one of the country’s foremost constitutional lawyers, the Carl M. Loeb university professor at Harvard Law School. He has argued dozens of cases in front of the Supreme Court. He’s a major figure in American public life, and in recent months Tribe has devoted much of his activity on Twitter to outraged extrapolation about the Trump administration. Often, these take the form of “big if true” tweets that cite unconfirmed reports about Trump’s possible misdeeds and are essentially conjecture.

On April 22, Tribe shared a story from a website called the Palmer Report — a site that has been criticized for spreading hyperbole and false claims — entitled “Report: Trump gave $10 million in Russian money to Jason Chaffetz when he leaked FBI letter,” a reference to the notorious pre-election letter sent by former FBI director James Comey to members of Congress that many have blamed for Hillary Clinton’s November loss.

One of the interesting bits of history in Forget the Alamo is just hinted at because there’s no hard evidence that Andrew Jackson plotted to take Texas away from Mexico, other than that quite a few of the combatants at the Battle of San Jacinto were soldiers missing for weeks and listed as “deserters” from the U.S. Fort Jesup in Louisiana, and were later found to have rejoined their units.

re: #279 Punish Domestic Terrorists

The media bias chart, which is itself baised, has them at the end of the selective reporting propaganda section, bordering the pure fabrication section. Wonkette is just above Palmer Report, which I don’t think is fair to Wonkette.

It is not fair to Wonkette. (The original chart had Wonkette to the left of Jacobin and Wonkette protested it)

My objection as noted by the Media Bias chart is that it currently has them in the category “selective, incomplete, unfair persuasion, or propaganda” and on the line of “the most extreme left.”

Everything written at Wonkette which is not an opinion piece is sourced to mainstream media outlets. They are only ranked on that chart above Palmer Report just above the “misleading or fabricated” information” section.

re: #261 Hecuba’s daughter

Occasionally am a grammar Nazi —- and I really hate it when writers or journalists use the wrong case in a sentence. No, it’s not “canceled without contacting Bryan or I”, it’s “canceled without contacting Bryan or me”. Hate it! Somehow people seem to think “I” sounds more eloquent and educated than “me”.

Good grammar or bad, the book sounded interesting. I just bought it.

My tired editing joke: Hitler’s speechwriter was a grammar Nazi.

In 2018, a Columbia Journalism Review article questioned the thoroughness of the Media Bias Chart and similar initiatives, stating that “the five to 20 stories typically judged on these sites represent but a drop of mainstream news outlets’ production”.

and

In 2021, an article on the Association of College and Research Libraries’ blog argued that the Media Bias Chart is detrimental to media literacy efforts because it “promotes a false equivalency between left and right, lionizes a political ‘center’ as being without bias, and reinforces harmful perceptions about what constitutes ‘news’ in our media ecosystem.”

The latest chart also has Wonkette slightly further left of Jacobin. Jacobin is explicitly Marxist.

I just did as well. When I went to UTD in 2000, they required a Texas history class, and my teacher was very dismissive of the Alamo.

In the Hollywood version someone is drawing lines between Fagradalfjall, Mount Nyiragongo and Taal and coming to alarming conclusions involving either aliens or neutrinos out both.
