Front-loading washer also aren’t as good as top-loading for having sex on top of (think about the rotation of the innards)… so everybody should have top loading anyway. (also, if you leave it half open, the top loading will close itself. The front loading, your dog will bash his head on the open door.)

Ergo, top-loading washers are superior.

I can do the same thing with my wringer washer and the ice, and don’t have to worry about a dog or anyone else bashing their head.

Front-loaders are also too high to jump on and have sex without a step-ladder.

I’d just like to take a moment to call out Facebook for once again being derelict in the face of genocide. This time, it’s their refusal to stop allowing their platform to be used to spread anti-vax and pro-quack responses to this pandemic. Every day on the CDC’s reports, countless bots post false information and tout “therapeutics,” which is just them hawking ivermectin and other dangerous miracle cures, all while lying about the vaccines.

Facebook knows this. People report these pages and these comments but they are allowed to continue. Facebook is a bad actor and I don’t know how humanity survives it.

Wisconsin Republicans own the State House so they are passing, without any hearings, a bill that allows them to spend $680,000 to investigate the 2020 election in Wisconsin. This will be the second 2020 election investigation that they have funded with taxpayer money.

Didn’t we see some mendacious BS post from some RW asshole yesterday about how “disgraceful” it was that President Biden hadn’t gone, or even sent anyone, to Dover AFB to salute the Kabul Evacuation casualties?

And never mind that the bodies were not flown home until today (and Joe and Jill there to pay their respects)….

Yeah, they will probably keep denying reality/perpetuating the lie: after all, the main tenet of today’s Right is “never admit to being wrong about anything”.

When resources become strained beyond tolerable limits, hospitals will triage incoming patients. People with a lower chance of survival get moved to the back of the line.

From a writer’s point of view the first story is a masterpiece. Read it out loud. It is poetry.

the rest of the stories are also excellent, but the first is the best. His observations are vivid and his prose is sublime.

Good rejoinder about the Afghan-exit critics: reading the whole thing is recommended: though I would proffer a couple of counterpoints to Rothkopf’s analyses:
1. Most “critics of Biden’s strategy” aren’t, for the most part, going to know or care in the least about the facts on the ground, or any other mitigating factors regarding the Afghanistan withdrawals - it’s the “criticism” of Joe Biden and his Administration that is the major point: and if it has to rely on simpleminded war-jingo TV/action-movie tropes to make a point: well, that is likely exactly what the critics’ audience wants to hear, so reality is irrelevant.
2. I do take issue with one of Rothkopf’s theses: that the US has no “ongoing security interests” in Afghanistan. Yes, the country is isolated, far away, poor and backward, etc., but I think just dismissing it as an unimportant backwater may be an oversimplified (if understandable) reaction.

And on the same subject: a nice analysis HERE by Josh Marshall of a piece in the Washington Post about just WHY it was that the Afghan Government collapsed seeming instantly, and why the choice ended up being the Taliban being responsible for securing Kabul, or us (The US) doing it. RTWT.

The picture the WaPo used to head the article is gem: a bunch of armed Talibani clustered around the former Presidential desk in Kabul, with not a smile or gloat visible on any of them. The guy sitting behind the desk (on an Aeron chair I notice) is staring at that Kalashnikov on the desktop, and you know the thought-balloon is something like “OK - what the fuck do I do NOW??

And here’s my comment about Justin Dean, in which I drag in Mike Cosper and Christianity Today. For the record, Mike Cosper told a friend of Stephanie Drury’s that he didn’t want her on the podcast because of “her hostility (and to be frank, her vulgarity.)” (That’s a quote.) When Driscoll was still in Seattle, Drury set up mental health groups so women who had been or still were in Mars Hill church could come talk out what was happening. Her crime was she gave women space outside the church to deal with the issues Mars Hill and Driscoll were causing.

In Houston in 1989, it rained a lot, we had a number of strong thunderstorms come through, Tropical Storm Allison caused a lot of flooding while I was studying for the bar, and then finally Hurricane Chantal blew through. She wasn’t a very strong hurricane, but the winds, combined with the trees being in full leaf, knocked over a number of the old live oak trees at the University of Houston main campus.

There is no future where computer driven cars are a useful part of the solution to our problems.

Computer-driven electric taxis are a solution, assuming we can stop burning fossil fuels to generate electricity to charge their batteries[1]. They would become a sort-of small point-to-point omnibus, called to where you are when you need them and let go when you get there. The driver-cost overhead being removed (15-20 bucks an hour) reduces the ticket price to something affordable by regular people, even those who don’t or can’t qualify for a driving licence.

[1] I had a rather twisted thought earlier today — would burning sperm-whale oil in combined-cycle gas turbine plants to generate electricity be considered as renewable energy?

To my mind it’s an urban introduction. Consumer-ridden vehicles. But the interstate cargo thing might start with railroad or transmission tower rights of way rather than highway additions. And none of the stops along the way matter to a drone truck anyway. But it is a lot to change in any case so yeah, we need carbon capture to make up for exhausts.

AFAIK Rather has never admitted the Killian memo was a fake. That’s clearly his biggest single mistake.

He hasn’t. I was referring to things he has admitted. It’s an insight into human nature that he is more willing to admit to excessive risk-taking than to being hoodwinked by an obvious scam.
Btw, I was here the day Charles posted the famous “throbbing memo,” an eyewitness (online witness anyway) to history. Hard to believe it was almost 17 years ago, or that I have been here almost 20 years.

Ida was drifting right, thus putting NOLA in the path of the eastern eye-wall.

But the NWS radar page is now telling me that NOLA radar is offline, so it is hard to place the eye.

And oil prices are thus up.

We are still planning to haul a camper 3000 miles in Sep-Oct. This might be an excuse to cancel it in the face of the RW dipshits’ CV-19 revival.

Thanks, my local has it.

I’m never sure which WNET shows are PBS network, and which are NY13 local.

Maybe they’ll put the armed roadblocks on the other side of the bridge this time.

From what I can tell from the radar image, looks like the burbs west of Kenner, and the airport, will be hit by the eastern eye-wall winds.

Trump never attended any such ceremonies and didn’t even want the coffins to be televised.

Please ask Justin about Trump’s lying, his racism, his violent talk, his caging of children, his bigoted rhetoric (sexism, racism, xenophobia). How was Trump trying to be better and which Christians did he pay attention to? Only White Evangelicals or Black conservatives.

I was at the headwaters of the Mississippi this weekend. It rained for much of the time I was there. It was badly needed, but it was still annoying that I lost much of the day Saturday because of the rain.

It would be amazing if Todd performed with Utopia, with Joe Jackson, and with Meat Loaf at his RRHOF induction, if he even decides to show up.
