Stunning- former McCarthy staffer Ryan O’Toole (who now works for Liz Cheney) tells @JakeTappper that McCarthy never checked in w/ him after 1/6.. But Speaker Pelosi and Leader Hoyer stopped the GOP floor team to thank them for their work to get the House back & running.

Because, as we’ve been pointing out for years now, Democrats tend to be normal compassionate humans, and Republicans tend to be self-centered robots.

Oh, and by the way, and speaking about child sexual abuse, someone dropped a story about former Michigan House speaker Lee Chatfield into the previous thread. Let’s just say that the accusations involving Chatfield center around his *church* and the *Christian school* the church ran. ETA: Chatfield’s dad is the church’s pastor. Here’s more details from the local paper:

By TODD HEYWOOD
THURSDAY, Jan. 6 — The sister-in-law of former Michigan House Speaker Lee Chatfield has filed a criminal complaint against him with the Lansing Police Department for allegedly sexually assaulting her beginning when she was a teenager attending his church and the associated Christian school.

A city spokesman said today that the city has transferred the matter to the Michigan State Police for investigation.

The woman, now 27, alleges the sexual assaults began when she was 15, and attending Northern Michigan Baptist Bible Church and the Northern Michigan Christian Academy School, said her attorney, Jamie White, of the White Law Firm in Lansing. Chatfield’s father, Rusty, is the pastor of the church and the administrator for the school. The alleged sexual exploitation continued until July 2021. City Pulse does not identify the victims of sexual assault without their permission.

Chatfield, 33, is one of seven children of Rusty and Betty Chatfield.

Before Chatfield ran for the state House in 2014, he was a teacher at the school, as well as the men’s soccer coach and the athletic director.

More at the linky-poo. lansingcitypulse.com

While this guy is not a Southern Baptist, these “Bible Baptists” are part of the larger Evangelical Industrial Complex, which, like the Catholic Church, has a huge problem with child sexual abuse and covering up child sexual abuse.

Just to follow up, this person is a known quantity and one of my friends who exposes child sexual abuse in Evangelical environments has put him on perma-moderation on her blog. Another of my friends suggested this guy is one of the SBC pastors that my first friend has exposed through her work. If it’s the guy she’s thinking of, he left the SBC after he was exposed in the press and now is covertly running a new church in Memphis. Not mentioning his name because I don’t know if it’s actually him, however. But it wouldn’t surprise me if it was. These people are vindictive little shits, worse than Scientology even.

Judge says Ahmaud Arbery was “hunted down and shot”
Judge Timothy Walmsley said Ahmaud Arbery was “hunted down and shot” before the sentencing of the three men convicted of killing the 25-year-old Black man running in a Georgia neighborhood in 2020.

Walmsley described the events that led to the shooting of Arbery and commented on remarks made by the three men, Gregory McMichael, Travis McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan, Jr.

“In my opinion, Greg McMichael very early on in this tried to establish a narrative. He made comments like ‘Ahmaud Arbery was trapped like a rat,’ ‘stop or I’ll blow your — and I won’t repeat it again — head off.’ Effectively admitted that he wasn’t sure what Ahmaud Arbery had done wrong,” Walmsley said.

“Travis McMichael claims he was in shock, but it’s interesting because he talks about his concern for his child and his own well-being. Part of this was while the victim was actually laying there in the street,” the judge said.

“Mr. Bryan, he joined in, after calling out to the McMichaels ‘you all got him,’ claimed he didn’t know what was going on. But obviously wanted to know if this individual who was running through the neighborhood who he didn’t know had been caught in some way,” the judge continued.

He said these quotes give context to video of the killing presented in court during the trial.

Seriously. I’m still trying to wrap my head around what position he had that gun in that resulted in him getting shot WHILE BENDING OVER TO PICK UP CARTRIDGES. Did he lean right over the barrel or something?

Some Capitol Rioters Met with Lawmakers

About Arbery’s killers:

The three men convicted of killing Ahmaud Arbery Feb. 2020 as the 25-year-old was jogging through Brunswick, Georgia, all faced the death penalty. In a sentencing hearing on Friday, Travis McMichael, and his father, Gregory McMichael, instead will be serving life sentences without the possibility of parole. A neighbor, William “Roddie” Bryan, will serve a life sentence with the possibility of parole. Prosecutors chose not to seek the death penalty and Arbery’s family wanted the men to face life imprisonment. Judge Timothy Walmsley honored those requests. Prior to imposing those sentences, Walmsley led a minute-long moment of silence to illustrate just how swiftly Arbery was gunned down.

The interviewer is Christina Bobb, the same OAN reporter who was pegged as being in the Willard Hotel ‘War Room.’

And when I hit the page, I got a popup with no way to close it. It asked, ‘Would you join Donald Trump’s social media?’ with buttons that said ‘yes’ and ‘no.’ I hit the ‘no’ button…

and was taken to a page to sign up for Trump’s social media. Running a malware scan now. Can’t be too careful.

Of late (well, past couple of years) I don’t go out much, but had to go to the bank today.

It was on a skeleton staff, it appeared, and for some reason the line (not that long) for the few tellers barely crept forward.

For some unknown reason, some customers were occupying their teller for 15 minutes. Or more.

Absurd, but that is life in 2022.

Then went thru the shopping center, more a ghost town than even last year.

Sure, not that many shoppers do the post-Christmas buying spree, but still, it was evident that shops are still hurting.

Better that than the people who go to the *one* ATM and attempt to do 2 months worth of banking there.

I’ve wanted to call in an airstrike on a couple of Chase banks because of that. Just go inside to teller people. That’s like going into the express line at a grocery store with 1500 items.

Stocks were also low on bread, carrots, cucumbers, frozen chicken parts and paper towels(which have become insanely expensive. It’s a darn good thing I’m not in Michigan because I really want to slug someone right about now.

Please don’t punch me (Norther Michigan resident).

re: #168 A Mom Anon

My local Kroger is out of potato chips. The aisle is empty except for a few bags of pretzels and tortilla chips. There are no cookies except some cheap oatmeal raisin ones and the cereal aisle is looking rough too. Stocks were also low on bread, carrots, cucumbers, frozen chicken parts and paper towels(which have become insanely expensive. I got a package of shop towels for 10 bucks, they work fine and wash and dry and last for years). The stores are actually looking rougher than they did when we saw store runs earlier in the pandemic. Might be weather holding up trucks, that’s my guess, along with pandemic related madness.

None of that here in Austin.
