Brendan Frasier? I thought his career was over long ago. Was this supposed to be his “comeback”?

I’m much more interested in the drama surrounding this business decision than I am in the movie.

“It’s an incredibly bad look to cancel the Latina ‘Batgirl’ movie,” Smith said. “I don’t give a shit if the movie was absolute fucking dog shit - I guarantee you that it wasn’t. The two directors [Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi] who directed that movie did a couple of episodes of ‘Ms. Marvel,’ and it was a wonderful fucking show and they had more money to do ‘Batgirl’ than they had to do an episode of ‘Ms. Marvel’ and stuff.”

Point very well taken, but you’re ceding a point to AI you shouldn’t. Under the Geneva Conventions, you should take all reasonable precautions to avoid basing in civilian areas, but it’s a little difficult when you enemy is actively targeting these same civilian areas (you know, a clear war crime). Sure, go out in the woods where the enemy can just flank you and take the city. Why not.

And to head off another point, forcibly displacing civilians when they don’t want to leave is a war crime. So.

I just ran across a couple of tweets from Mark Ames wherein he complains that as soon as AI and CBS produce “credible” accusations against Ukraine the CIA and other propaganda outfits start up their discrediting operations. I know he and Taibbi have mixed feelings about their past in Russia, but they definitely have some kind of nostalgic connection (I wouldn’t call them tankies). I want to say, “yeah I have a friend who loved Russia so much he gave up his US citizenship and went all in on a business empire in cosmetics there and now Putin has confiscated his wealth and he’s in jail without even hope of some US intervention.” Those guys are still wearing Kremlin lenses in their glasses.

Trail Runner’s editor assesses Josh Hawley’s Capital sprint — TrailRunner

[…]

Whether you’re on a jog around the neighborhood or fleeing the violent mobs whose fury you stoked for your own political gain, you’ll want to make sure you have a good forward lean. A keen eye will notice Sen. Hawley’s torso is straighter than Mike Pence’s freshly cleared search history. Runners will often struggle with a forward lean because they haven’t developed enough core stability. However, in Hawley’s case, it may be due to the absence of any spine. I’d recommend some lower core work and/or the adherence to any core values whatsoever.

[…]

Then, there’s his gear. A suit from Brooks Brothers’ We’re Totally Getting Away With It Collection hardly allows for the range of motion required when desperately fleeing the consequences of your own actions.

Not the same. I had progressive lenses in my last glasses. My left eye is now slower with a smaller range of motion than my right, so those became difficult. What I’m wanting to try is one whole lens for near, and the other for far. Because the eyes aren’t working together, they need to work separately to deal with double vision. They say with the ‘monovision’ set up (one near, one far) the brain will pay attention to the eye you’re wanting. I can’t tell if that’s happening. I often close one eye to deal. Hecuba’s Daughter said she could not adjust to monovision contacts.

I hadn’t heard of eyes that don’t work together (I have two different prescriptions, but each eye focuses on the same spot in its own special way). Yeah, if your eyes can’t function together anyway, specialization sounds like a good idea.

a low end audit correspondence inquiry is nothing like a high-earner audit.

they really shouldnt be classified as audits for this discussion and comparison.
most returns at the lower end are based on documents/documentable items.

you get a letter in the mail that usually says one of two things:
- we have this income we dont see you reported on your return - ie that job you had for one month; maybe you forgot, or they didnt send you a W-2.
- or maybe please provide proof/documentation of educator expenses or ira deduction.
it’s usually all done by mail.
if you have a tax preparer, you generally dont even get involved.
sure it costs some of the pro’s time.

that’s entirely different from a schedule C line by line colonoscopy with inventory, estimates, depreciation, meals, questionable deductions, etc.
or piercing a bunch of pass-through entities - ie the kind of lying TFG does.
those take months/years and involve professionals, powers of attorney, face to face or site visits, and lots of detail.

a correspondence ‘audit’ is a tooth cleaning by a hygienist
an ‘audit’ is a root canal a mouthful of root canals.

A Nebraska woman is facing felony charges for helping her teenage daughter obtain an abortion earlier this year. Her daughter, who was 17 years-old at the time and 22 weeks pregnant (abortion is illegal in the state after 20 weeks), is also being charged. She will be tried as an adult. I’m looking to get more details on the case, but a couple of noteworthy items: Law enforcement not only went through the girl’s medical records, but got a warrant for her Facebook messages. That’s where the mother and daughter allegedly talked about how to properly take abortion medication—the prosecutor is also using a message where the teen expressed not wanting to be pregnant as evidence.

This, I believe, is really important. I’ve been influenced by Benedict Anderson’s Imagined Communities in which he makes the case that without things like media helping spread messages (or some might say myths) of commonality, it is difficult to hold a nation together. Biden stressing that they are not just eastern Kentuckians, but also American citizens who deserve the help of other Americans is just the right message. (Yes, I know such can also become propaganda, but let’s leave that aside since that isn’t the main intent here.)

One more example of the dependency of rural areas on the cities where most people live.

A Libertarian Utopia like Texas’ direction under a fascist Republican control will literally empty out entire regions of rural areas even further. Fee-based services, tolls, and privatized everything mean extraordinary costs for rural populations forcing even more relocation into suburban areas which then get swallowed up by metro sprawl.

This leads to even more corporate and billionaire ownership of vast regions of land which are then exploited for commercial mining, oil and farming. Irony explodes as those who wish to live in rural “freedom” vote directly to cause their own poverty and necessary relocation.

These sorts of hyperbolic reports do not help us in Nebraska with the real issue of keeping abortion legal in this state.

In a case where they are relevant, medical records and social media accounts are routinely obtained as part of a prosecution.

The tweet implies the (then) girl in question was busted from social media posts.

By the way, the push for a special session in the state legislature to ban abortion was defeated today.

Norfolk mother and daughter accused of illegal abortion, burning and burying body (Lincoln Journal-Star, today)

A Norfolk woman is facing five criminal charges — including three felonies — alleging she helped her teenage daughter abort, burn and bury her fetus earlier this year.

Jessica Burgess, 41, pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial in Madison County District Court. Her then-17-year-old daughter Celeste Burgess — who is being tried as an adult — also pleaded not guilty to three charges, including a felony.

And a 22-year-old man accused of helping the two bury the fetus pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor and will be sentenced later this month.

A Norfolk police detective launched his investigation in late April, chasing a tip that Celeste Burgess had miscarried and that she and her mother had buried the body, according to a search warrant affidavit.

The detective obtained her medical records, and determined she’d been more than 23 weeks — or nearly six months — pregnant at the time, and was expected to deliver July 3.

So.

That’s fair. Agreed on all points. There are a couple of scenarios I see here.

1. Russia bombs/attacks an area.
Ukraine positions military forces there to protect them.
Russia falsely claims Ukraine is engaging in war crimes.

2. Russia looks like it might be massing for an attack on a city.
Ukraine prepositions military forces to defend the city, some of which are near civilian areas.
Russia claims Ukraine is engaging in war crimes, which may be technically correct but only by some twisted interpretation that would do Alito and Thomas proud, but not really by any reasonable definitions, based on sources that might have been coerced (i.e, people in Russian concentration camps.).

I’m guessing that what Ukraine did was both the first and maybe a bit of the second, and now Amnesty is blindly repeating the latter based on a misinterpretation of sources that might have been coerced (i.e, in Russian concentration camps).

Given Amnesty International’s good work, I’m still scratching my head as to why they fell for Russian propaganda.

Will there be a “Lifetime Pass” for Veterans and Gold Star Families?
Yes. On December 27, 2021, President Biden signed into law S. 1605 “The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022” (NDAA). Section 641 of the NDAA makes Gold Star families and veterans eligible for lifetime passes to federal recreational lands. Until then, Gold Star families and veterans may continue to use The Interagency Annual Military Pass with proof of eligibility as described above.

What happens if they believe the civilian leadership is wrong? Is that covered under the “regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice”?

This seems very unlike Raw Story. Or were they trying to make the point that we cannot rely on the military to protect our democracy because the next time around they may obey civilian leadership.

As an officer, you are bound to not follow an unlawful order, specifically because your duty is to the Constitution, not the president.

At least Nixon did the honorable thing and resigned. DT still thinks that Joe stole the election from him.

I think it’s more Trump thinks he can continue to grift successfully by yelling that Joe stole the election repeatedly.

I have one contact for reading and computer work, and one for distance, using the computer work with my worst eye since it wouldn’t have “so far to go”, so to speak. It works very well for me.

For some people monovision does work, but I hated it. I do have friends who loved it, but I was never happy with it.

No he doesn’t. He just refuses to admit it because that’ll end the grift.
