NM Governor Martinez(R) Acknoweldges Her Grandparents Were Illegal Immigrants

So NM governor Susana Martinez has ridden a platform that caters to the right-wing nativists which make up a clear majority of today’s GOP. Part of that platform of hers involves cracking down on undocumented persons who are residing and working in the State of New Mexico. Turns out, that’s all very very hypocritical of Mrs. Martinez, as she has publicly acknowledged that her own grandfather came to the U.S. illegally from Mexico in 1920. Had the Tea Party and Mrs. Martinez’s matching agenda been around back then, she would likely have never been born, let alone had the opportunities in life she has been able to seize.

Someone better alert Michele Bachmann about this, that third generation anchor babies are taking ‘merican gub’mint jobs away.

And with a name like Martinez, how can we possibly trust her? She probably has Messican domestic help.

It all seems very typical to me. Hell, I think knowing the shit that my immigrant ancestors went through by nativist jerks is why I am so sympathetic to the plight of modern immigrants. I loved my grandfather but he always rubbed me the wrong way when he would whine about immigrants. I had to remind him that his parents were immigrants themselves and faced hostility.
