'Kristen' Cleans Up

Thu, Mar 13, 2008 at 4:20:04 pm PDT

It looks like the big winner in the Eliot Spitzer scandal isn’t David Paterson—it’s “Kristen,” aka Ashley Alexandra Dupre, whose song has been downloaded more than a million times from Amie Street in the past few days at $0.98 a pop, with 70% going to her. And now Penthouse wants to pay her... for something or other. She’s going to come out of this very wealthy.

I am conflicted about Ashley. Who are we to judge how someone lives their life? Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness right? As long as she did not violate anyone's right to the same...what's the problem? I have lived in countries where prostitution is legal and when I was younger...Most women that I met, who were prostitutes (i prefer hostess), were in such desperate circumstances that they had no choice. It's not fun being a prostitute for most of them. It's not like sex with your bf. It's not even like group sex with a bunch of people like you. It's selling your body to whoever has the money - kind of like rent a slave. By its very nature, it is demeaning, which is one reason so many in the life do drugs and drink.

At any rate, given that they were doing drugs, stopping prostitution was impossible - the money was necessary to pay for the drugs, and in many cases, the drugs were necessary to stand the job.

In some places -- notably Europe -- there is such an overall lackadaisical attitude toward sex that women can and do become prostitutes without a hint of guilt or remorse. Little more stressful than being a masseuse. Then there are places like Saudi Arabia where they chop prostitutes into bits.

America represents the sane middle ground.

...Most women that I met, who were prostitutes (i prefer hostess), were in such desperate circumstances that they had no choice.

That sounds little short of slavery to me. While I believe that a woman or a man should be able to choose to sell sex, I am sickened that circumstances force some people into it and that others prey on them.

The thing is - I have known several prostitutes fairly well. In each case, they were drug addicts trying to get off dope and stop whoring. Granted, there may be lots of prostitutes who are not on drugs, but I guarantee you a lot of them are. And don't forget the booze.

Hell, Columbia University will probably want her for a commencement speaker, now. Not counting the million or so she's going to make from her song. Now she's famous.

She can go work a legal brothel and charge twice as much until the furor is over. Plus there's the porn industry, from Penthouse to hard-core. No, for someone in her business, this just makes her a hot commodity.

In an Islamic society she would be a pariah by this point, and if it had been a prominent Imam or some such person whom had been compromised through their dalliance with, she might well have imprisonment and lashes or a hanging in her future.

I just hope nobody calls this Kristen/Ashley person "business savvy," as so many do in regards to Madonna.

Making money off being vulgar or sleeping around is not "business savvy" in my book.

I also don't regard stealing the styles, fashions, looks and personas of other celebrities* as Madonna has frequently done to be 'business savvy.'

The average temperature across both the contiguous U.S. and the globe during climatological winter (December 2007-February 2008) was the coolest since 2001, according to scientists at NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C. In terms of winter precipitation, Pacific storms, bringing heavy precipitation to large parts of the West, produced high snowpack that will provide welcome runoff this spring.

Thats just the way it is.

I don't agree. Our morality encompasses more than just the blatant sexuality seen throughout society and allows many people to live as it pleases them, whether that be as an adult film star or a chaste and celibate young woman to cite two very different examples. I certainly don't see the Muslims as correct in this regard. Nor do I view them as particularly good examples of moral people, especially when there are so many reports of killing over imagined slights of family 'honor' or justification of rape by saying that the meat was uncovered.

As Gov, he gets a say in how the Port Authority, MTA, and LMDC operate. What's he going to do with that power?

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Meanwhile, down in DC, Democrats are busy screwing taxpayers once Bush leaves office since they're paving the way to let the Bush cuts expire - which will create one of the largest tax hikes in history.

Excellent points! In the moral arena of the value and sanctity of life, Islamic fundamentalist terrorists have few equals in their chosen field of killing and torturing infidels. Our media however, glorifies commercial sex, and rap music videos are now nearly soft porn videos. With one in four US teens reporting having an STD, there is some concern that our morals are decaying....

I sympathize with Monica. She was young and stupid so she fell in love with a POS and chose another POS for a "confidante." What she did, she did out of love. Her life has been utterly ruined, while the chief POS in question is doing quite fine, thank you. It never even occurred to him to apologize for ruining a young life. The media never ever gave her a break, not even now, years later. Why? Because she is "fat" - and that' s all they have ever noticed about her; "fat" has been the media's first and last word on Monica. How dare she cause a national scandal while not fitting a Hollywood standard?! Now, Kristen is a different story. She is nothing but a whore, yet she is called an "aspiring musician" and an "escort." What she did, she did out of pure greed, but she is slim and pretty and so the media have been treating her with respect. I find this attitude beneath contempt.

The proof of sincerity is in his steadfast pattern of behavior, and commitment to Toynbee Hall, over all those years.

Actually, I do think it mattered to Madonna. Even well into her 30s, she would bring her dad up in interviews and discuss how he impacted her, he was with her in the 1990s when she was interviewed on the Arsenio show, etc.

Her dad was upset by her slutty antics (so was one of her grandmothers).

Madonna has stated that part of the reason she rebelled in music videos and concerts (by acting like a trollop in particular) had to do with getting a rise out of her her dad and lashing out at her Roman Catholic upbringing.

Not sure what this stat on the page means ...

But that would lead me to believe that there were 242,017 page views and 235,362 visitors clicked to listen to one of the songs.

Everyone's going on about the scandal, but how many people are talking about why is prostitution illegal in the first place?
(Partial Answer: Federal prostitution laws were put in place during WWI to slow the spread of STD's amongst the troops.)
Or asking is it time to take some (most?) of these laws off the books? Maybe the reason why these women are exploited, why there is human trafficking and why drugs are so prevalent is because we've made it illegal and stigmatized it?

How about the antediluvian notion that prostitution is a sin on both sides?
How about _NOT_ buying into the moral relativism that equates sex with commodity or service. It's like... men need to urinate - hence the need for urinals, men need to ejaculate - hence the need for prostitutes. Disgusting does not begin to describe it. However, a lot of men think it normal. And no, I am _not_ a feminist. I find it amazing that those who condone prostitution find it in themselves to accept the treatment of women as inanimate objects.

re: #13 Stonemason

Jus' curious...
would it be sexist to mention that she is only in this position of fame because she is a female?

/some things just are

As long as you don't mind someone pointing out that "of course women have always been exploited, & this rare instance of one being able to turn the tables only proves the rule."

re: #391 kenashimame

Spitzer deserves this, because he's a hypocrite. Prosecuting prostitution while engaging in it as a consumer.

Well for all of those who think legalizing this misery that attracts the sexually and emotionally abused children of incest and other horrors...would you want your daughters becoming prostitutes? Would you love to learn that your current wife or girlfriend was busy making money this way? If it's no crime, guys, what's the big deal...maybe you'd get better sex from a current pro or "retiree".
Woudn't you be proud to have your daughter/sister/grandaughter servicing men for money?

Scandal a boost for call girl's career?

Article and rotating videos from our local ABC news outlet, Channel 7, WABC NY. Hold your browser over the small photos on the bottom...they tell what they are.

She is milking this for all it is worth. Sad. Very sad. What has happened to American values?

/I feel about as sorry for her as I do for Spitzer and his wife. Her parents must be so proud.

402 anotherindyfilmguy  Thu, Mar 13, 2008 10:20:29pm

There's a lot of assuming she gets to keep the extra cash she's making... if her "boyfriend" is a hard core pimp etc he's probably already spending it or at least thinking about how to spend it... then there's going to be pending legal bills because of what she did to become famous etc... while the prosecutors cannot go after her cash made after the crime from music downloads/penthouse photo sessions etc etc there's probably multiple charges being lined up against her to make an example out of her as well as Spitzer... Anything she makes that can attributed to her criminal activity is subject to seizure first then fighting for it in court later, so book deals/speaking fees about what she did may well be very iffy propositions... not to be confused with her other propositions, which were stiffies...

It's fine with me if she makes a lot of money from this.
Prostitution should be legal.

when people say this, they seem to ignore the ease with which that will encourage even more sex slavery. The vast majority of prostitutes are not women making $1000 an hour but more and more children and women who are forced into this lifelike the treinteras- hispanic women- $30 a time- they get $15. I know it also exists in every other population here and world wide. Of course, non one suggests that children would be legal as prostitutes in this country but without prosecution, the incredible amount of sex slavery would continue.

406 CLLRusso  Fri, Mar 14, 2008 4:46:15am

Frankly I find the media and public fascination with the "bad girl" and most subjects involving celebrity and sex sickening. Elevating this girl to celebrity status is pathetic. Prostitution is a form of enslavement of people, women and children especially, and I can not imagine that selling my body would bring me any pleasure what-so-ever, even if that was the only asset I possessed. But then, good looks is not the only asset I possess so perhaps I will never understand the Kristen's here.

Considering this poor thing is only interesting after being exposed as having paid sex with someone well known, what does that say about our society and all that above?

407 looking closely  Fri, Mar 14, 2008 5:38:53am

So her little tryst has *already* grossed close to a million dollars (if not more). Better than blowing 1000 anonymous guys, I think.

Seriously, in terms of pure downloads, that *probably* makes here a top-ten recording artist!

re: #396 Right Brain

She lives across the street from me, there are at least six or seven satellite vans parked on 25th street and 6th ave. waiting for her to exit the building. Along with about a hundred staff from various media outlets.

What I note is that this a brand new apartment building where rents are around $5k per month, so she wasn't doing too badly.

Jim

The pajamas media article I linked to yesterday said that these high-priced agency ladies can earn $20-$30k per month. And that's off the books, making it roughly equivalent to a gross annual pay of $400-$500k per year.

Personally, I've seen prettier. $2500/Hour tops.

Ever been to Subic Bay, Philippines? Twenty-five bucks gets you an "escort" as beautiful as the gal currently on American Idol, and you get her all night long and into the next day if you don't mind waking up hungover with the roosters crowing in your ears and doing "the walk of shame" back onto the base at 6:00 a.m.

In case you're wondering: Yes, I am ashamed of my youthful exploits. No, I wasn't married at the time. No, I wouldn't to it again if I could go back in time. No, I didn't pick up any diseases. And, no, I didn't bring one back.

re: #408 looking closely

Her life will become a living hell as soon as the IRS takes an interest in her. Bet she'll become a FairTaxer after she gets out of prison.

Under the FairTax, her employer would be responsible for paying the embedded sales tax on her services to the U.S. Treasury through the State's sales tax collection system (the states would get to keep a sizeable collection allowance). She would get to keep 100% of her salary with no withholdings, she would never have to keep records or ever file a return, and she would get a monthly "prebate" check to offset the sales taxes paid on the basic necessities of life up to the poverty level (everyone gets this prebate regardless of income).

411 sefton  Fri, Mar 14, 2008 7:10:52am

It doesn't matter how much money she makes off of her 15 minutes of notoriety (fames evil twin). She will still always be "That Whore".

re: #14 spypeach

Yeah, it will be great being rich, but someday she will still have to tell her children she was/is a prostitute and that will really suck.

Yep, that's right. Unless she goes the Traci Lord$$$ route and suddenly discovers how "pernicious" her teen porn flicks were. Can you say hypocrite?

414 A. van Hilten  Fri, Mar 14, 2008 8:15:58am

re: #59 MandyManners

You think fornication and helping married men commit adultery are okay?

Married men don't need any help to cheat on their wives. Last time I checked, all grown-ups of either sex are responsible for their actions. Remember: It takes two to do the horizontal boogaloo.

415 Mo86  Fri, Mar 14, 2008 8:19:07am

This makes me ill. The chick is not only a hooker, but has now destroyed many lives and she gets basically REWARDED for it?! And rich, to boot?

I refuse to look at her web site or listen to her music. I don't care whether she has talent or not. It's absolutely infuriating to me that there are many people out there with talent, trying to make it in the music business or whatever, and having a hard time of it. Yet THIS is the sort of person our society rewards?!

I don't personally know any prostitutes, but I know strippers and work for lawyers and I rather have my daughter be a stripper than a lawyer. It more honest.

A little historical context here:

Prostitution as a crime (as opposed to a sin) is an artifact of the Victorian era with the belief that society can be engineered for the better by legislation.

For the bulk of recorded history prostitution has been the only alternative for women outside of the the traditional family role. At times, Ishtar's Priestess/Prostitutes, Greek hetaera, Italian courtesans and Japanese oiran all had some measure of respectability. The "Hooker with a Heart of Gold" is an old archetype in literature, from at least Livy's tale of the Bacchic Conspiracy through Inara Serra in Joss Whedon's Firefly.

Legalizing prostitution isn't going to make all the evils of the profession go away, any more than ending Prohibition ended the evils of alcoholism. Remember that Prohibition's greatest impact on our society was the growth of organized crime.

Don't whitewash it. Prostitution has always existed, but it's never been respectable, and shrine prostitution sacrificed first the woman's highly respected role as wife and mother. Even today there are shrine prostitutes who give it up freely and instantly when preached the gospel as an alternative. Their shrine prostitute "managers" don't like that very much, the priestesses quitting, so there is some personal danger involved leaving the "fold." These women prefer "dignity" over a peculiar "status."

Yeh, there are still shrine prostitutes in 2008. Sad, but true. Only Christian missionaries have bothered to care about their plight.
And this particular hedonistic woman Ashley will not be rich long, no matter what she makes, the way she spends money. Her looks won't last either. But let the media flatter her for a while, using her just as comprehensively as a client, until they become bored and move on. Flattery, should be remembered, is a form of hatred.

Just to remind me of the day when some poetic justice was served.

I was struck by how similar in appearance are 'Kristen' (aka Ashley Alexandra Dupre, nee Ashley Yeomans [sp]) and Mrs Spitzer. But anyway ...

Sit and think for a second what is running through the minds of Spitzer's daughters and what their father's view of females means about his view of his daughters and his wife. Not a pretty concept.

What a creep he is.

So, according to you, he thinks ALL women are sex objects (including his daughters) simply because he, err, screwed a whore (or a thousand of them) over several years?

You mean you can't "fornicate" with someone who's selling her body without treating women like trash?

That's the most ridiculous thing I've read in quite a while.

Spitzer's daughters probably think their father is a creep because he cheated on their mother, not because men who sleep with prostitutes treat women like dirt.
