CNN’s Staged Video Updates

Middle East • Views: 2,689

Israel National News has a pretty fair and complete account of the controversy over that staged hospital room video from Gaza: Bloggers Uncover Possible CNN Video Fraud.

Most of the mainstream media are ignoring the story, of course, because it leads to issues they’d rather not explore—e.g., the ethics of media’s almost universal practice of relying on Palestinian propagandists for their coverage from Gaza.

TIME Magazine’s Andrew Lee Butters brings up the staged video in this piece for their Middle East “Blog,” but it’s a cursory mention bordering on dismissal: Is Israel Losing the Media War in Gaza?

Israel’s decision to keep the Western press out of Gaza may also have backfired, because it’s given a monopoly of coverage to the more inflammatory reporting of Arab satellite television stations such as Al Jazeera and Al Arabiyya that maintain bureaus in Gaza. And while there are many excellent Palestinian journalists working for the Western press in Gaza, there have been some examples of doctored photographs and suspicious looking videos showing civilian suffering. Conservative blogs have singled out one video of doctors trying to resuscitate the brother of the CNN cameraman actually shooting the video, and suggested that it was really a re-enactment.

And so far, not a single mainstream source has mentioned the severe credibility problems of Norwegian terror-supporting doctor, Mads Gilbert.

How can there be a "re-enactment" of something that never happened in the first place?

Israel would be losing the media war in Gaza even if they gave exclusive interviews, helicopter rides, and $5,000 cash to every reporter on earth!

I disagree. There is no difference between the Western press and Al Jazeera in bias.

If anything, this is much better because Joe Average Western Citizen knows to distrust what they are watching from Al Jazeera, or at the very least take it with a grain of salt, but too many of them think that CNN et al are telling them the truth and would believe the coverage if it were from them.

What is the average age for Hamas to recruit "soldiers"?

In Saudi Arabia, is a "wife" younger than 18 considered a child for purposes other than marriage?

Seems like some consistency would be in order for the media. Or do they just pick and choose what they want to report?

It varies with their agenda.

When it suits their purpose, a 17-yr-old is a teenager. Other times, a 17-yr-old is a child. On the other side of 18, I've seen them at times call an 18 or 19-yr-old a man or a woman, and at other times, a teenager or a youth.

the question is why? Is there a vast conspiracy "up there" in which a chosen few dictate to the rest of the media they need to report a certain way?

Or is the media just rotten to the core with a higher than average number of anti-Jewish reporters/editors? Is there a consensus among the working media, as well as the media elite, that Israel MUST fall and Hamas, Fatah, etc... are in the right?

Leftists and liberals flock to becoming journalists (not to be confused with reporters) with an agenda in their minds already is actually the take I have on it.

I believe it is also a problem even if they claim "it's a re-enactment!" The reason why this claim ("It's a Re-enactment!") is a problem -- is because, then the truth of the original article (remember that written article posted at CNN?) is then suspect. The original article claimed that Herr Doktor filmed the death of his brother as it happened...that was the claim -- that's what was written -- as if the "video" were a historic document. not an "artful" re-enactment...an historic document (as it happens) is not the same as a rehearsed, artfully edited video -- two things are different...and one cannot/should not be substituted for the other.

Yep, I think they all become journalists to "make a difference."

At heart, each may have a different pet goal (end bigotry, fight hunger, healthcare for everyone, environment, etc.), but the way they are going to achieve that goal is always the same - force people to obey through a powerful State. In other words, socialism.

And for socialism to take hold, capitalism, the US, the West, must be discredited. I doubt most of them know their own mind well enough to understand what drives them.

Aint found a way to kill me yet
Eyes burn with stinging sweat
Seems every path leads me to nowhere
Wife and kids household pet
Army green was no safe bet
The bullets scream to me from somewhere

Here they come to snuff the rooster
Yeah here come the rooster, yeah
You know he aint gonna die
No, no, no, ya know he aint gonna die

Walkin tall machine gun man
They spit on me in my home land
Gloria sent me pictures of my boy
Got my pills gainst mosquito death
My buddys breathin his dyin breath
Oh God please wont you help me make it through

Here they come to snuff the rooster
Yeah here come the rooster, yeah
You know he aint gonna die
No, no, no ya know he aint gonna die

Too bad- Time can tie itself to cnn in this case if it wants to and meet the same fate- financial bankruptcy. They're morally bankrupt already.

Something struck me yesterday while watching Joe the Plumber's report from Israel. He was showing the "caterpillars " bomb shelters on the playgrounds in Israeli. And explaining how when a rocket is incoming, the children all run for shelter in the caterpillars. I've never seen pictures of how Israeli people have to cope with the rockets coming from the Palestinians. I've seen plenty of pictures from the Palestinian side over the years, but never from the Israeli side. It was so sad, considering how the Palestinians have been the aggressors. Joe did a much, much better job of getting out the Israeli side than any reporter has all these years.

Israel’s decision to keep the Western press out of Gaza may also have backfired, because it’s given a monopoly of coverage to the more inflammatory reporting of Arab satellite television stations such as Al Jazeera and Al Arabiyya

Israel didn't keep the Western Press from reporting on Sderot for the last few years. On every rocket fired. On the daily trauma. On the fact that it was coming from a place no longer "occupied". Did they?

Israel didn't prevent the media from broadcasting the continuous Hamas incitement to hate and violence and murder of Jews? Did they?

Israel didn't prevent the Western media from showing videos of damaged Israeli homes - from those "inconvenient" nothings that suddenly land and explode- the way Joe the Plumber showed those homes. Did they?

Of course Israel is losing against the media. When the media is both the enemy and the referee, it makes it hard to win.

I heard one of the best defenses for this policy this morning (Thomas Sowell?) Cameramen look like they could be firing rocket-propelled grenades and may be fired upon by IDF by mistake. So how long would it be before Hamas sent out faux cameramen with real weapons?

Happened a couple of times in Iraq. Someone point "optics" at a US unit might be aiming something or taking pictures. In the heat of battle a soldier isn't going to take a chance and remove the perceived threat. It happen when the press was hanging out with the opfor.

I liked how in the video they were showing the rooftop where the boy was supposedly killed by a rocket from an Israeli drone. The only "damage" visible anywhere were some crumbling concrete blocks and some random holes in something hanging up on the roof. Besides that, everything seemed fine...no holes in the roof, I recall seeing a chair and I believe a potted plant sitting upright.

Then you watch Joe the Plumber's coverage from Israel where he's touring a house that was hit by a cheap piece of crap rocket fired from Gaza and there are holes in the ceiling and wall and the house looks like a freaking war zone.

We're supposed to believe that this house that the Palestinians were on was hit by high tech weaponry? Geez.....

And you don't need a "sea" nearby to have gulls. We have them in Colorado. If I go down tot he mall a few miles from here, you will see them sitting on top of the large light poles in the parking lots. Scavenging for food just like they do on the sea coast.

My husband thinks it was hit by a mortar - he witnessed some of the same type of damage on his many (MANY) tours in Iraq - he explained trajectory and angle of hitting, but right after those words all I heard was blah blah blah, blah blah blah. He did suspect that it was an "errant mortar" of Hamasshole origins. Pure speculation, really.

He also mentioned that the "doctors" in Iraq were somewhat suspect and had one guy who really DID get shrapnel from head to toe. The "doctor" took gaze and wrapped it over one shoulder, between his legs and then over the other shoulder (like that bathing suit Sascha Baron Cohen wore) and sent him home for recuperation. The Iraqis instead carried him to my husband for treatment. So he thinks the Hamas doctor may not have even known HOW to do CPR, which does not make this better. Our Mads has no such excuse. He also agrees the wounds on the body are not the same as what was described, shrapnel wounds all over are fairly obvious, even to Iraqi Doctors.

It already happened about a year ago. A Reuters stringer (Farid? Faris?) embedded with a Hamas missile launch site pointed a "telescopic lens camera" at an IDF tank and they took out the threat.

I remember that, but the world media pisses and moans nonetheless. Israel should say "Sure, c'mon down. Enter at your own risk."

What's the big surprise there?

Not for us, certainly.

But I'm sure it's a head-scratcher for those at CNN who really do believe that their truthiness template is one that they feel obligated to shove down our throats 7/24.

Hence my question, because the tube isn't extended. Which I guess means the LAW wasn't excited.

OK... watched the slides. In some of them, it's extended, in others it is not (but was slid back from extension the Private Bonehead Method (without fitting the sights back into their housings). I couldn't make out if the safety has been pulled or not.

All the pics have the tube either extended or the sights "trapped" (meaning none of them were pre-any extension.

My bet would be empty, too. An end shot would confirm it, but that's a good hunch... and the clown showing them is an untrained bonehead.

I have access to a lot of more info if i want it, spoiler info, direct from major sources, but it's my own personal promise to myself to experience the show just like a normal viewer and to write my articles without any prior or future knowledge of plot points and arcs.

I normally have at least one story a week on Doc Arzt's, almost always a "theory" article and unlike some of the front page editors, I will go "tet de tet" with the other commenters on a thread.

So, if you don't read Doc Arzt's, try it a few times and see what you think.

Zaka needs kevlar

ZAKA volunteers risk their own lives to save others. Unlike many of the other emergency workers at the scene, most ZAKA volunteers have no protective helmets or shrapnel-proof vests to protect them from additional missiles or rocket attacks that can occur at any time.

Meir Ben Meir, writing on the Israeli news website ynet.co.il: "I must make special note of the ZAKA volunteers, most of whom belong to the ultra-orthodox sector. At every incident, at every missile hit, they are nearly always the first. In every television frame, in every picture in the media, you can always see them. They hurry to help, to treat the wounded, to offer first aid, at personal risk. What Kiddush Hashem there is in their work."

The 'Richard Tims' account was used only to plug the website previously hosted at sellyourstory.org

re: #144 seekeroftruth

Without either suggesting that Joe isn't a righteous dude in his own odd way, or that the American press has said much (a d*** thing) about rocketing of Israel for the past decade, he's not the first reporter to report passionately about the rockets and the mortars for a small conservative news organization. (Not to mention the Israeli press, much of which is available in English.) He's just the first one who's been a, well, Joe the Plumber.

I'm very glad to see that all of us, particularly Charles, are staying on top of the fake CPR story.

In his "bring it on" news conference, Mads Gilbert announced that he had posthumous photos of Mahmoud Mashhawari, and that he intended to publish them for all to see.

I'm not sure what he hopes to accomplish by this. We're not claiming that Mahmoud Mashhawari didn't die. We're only observing that the resuscitation scene that Gilbert was supervising was, quite obviously, fake. Nevertheless, I'm interested to see what Gilbert comes up with, and I hope Charles publishes a link as soon as the photos are released. If they are released. Nobody has seen anything yet, right?

A Caterpillar and An Anthem

[Link: www.danielgordis.org...]

....But what struck me more than anything on the way to lunch was the playground. Even in the pouring rain, it looked just like a regular playground, with jungle-gyms, swing sets and the like. There was even a colorful cement caterpillar – for the kids to climb on, I assumed. “See the caterpillar?” Laura asked me. “It’s hollow,” she said. “And see over there? Those are the openings. It’s really a bomb shelter. When the Color Red siren goes off [indicating an incoming kassam], the kids can run from the other parts of the playground into the caterpillar and wait there until the rocket hits.” (I asked Avi, sitting in the back, to take a quick picture, despite the rain.).....

read the whole thing - it's worth it.

Is this not even showing up on Fox? I thought they were right-wing jackbooted thugs, you'd think they would be interested in busting CNN's chops over this obvious fraud.

What of cousin Achmed? Why were two boys not taken to the hospital? Why were two boys not taken to the cemetery? What of Achmed?

And this would be why the MSM is sitting on the Fiskie pole...er I mean wining the Fiskie Poll.

Charles,

I'm going to tag this to make sure you see it.

It's important to point out that Israel National News (known here as Arutz Sheva) is not part of the mainstream media. They operated as one of many unlicensed radio stations here for many years. Their studios were in Samaria and they actually broadcast from a ship outside territorial waters, which is why they were technically legal. They were targeted by the government because of their opposition to Oslo (as noted in the post above), their equipment was impounded and they were forced off the air.

They are now solely an internet outlet.

When you see something only on Arutz Sheva, it means that Israel's MSM is ignoring it. Usually because it doesn't fit their agenda. The electronic media here is still almost entirely government owned or controlled (Israel Radio and Channel 1. Channels 2 and 10 are technically 'private' but the government plays a much greater role in them than would be the case in the US). The print media is independent but extremely leftist.

re: #325 Occasional Reader

[again?]

Okay, given the rooster's a) tough-guy attitude, and b) Arab provenance, my suggestion was: al-Capon

Not to rain on your pun, but isn't "capon" a little at odds with the "tough-guy" persona?

(A capon, by temperament, is more Capote than Capone. That's half the reason for making them into capons in the first place, so they're more docile and hen-like -- the other reason being to promote flabby muscles that cook up tender.)

re: #585 swamprat

Uh, Two boys supposedly met Allah, not one. The other boy's name is Achmed. He was the cousin.

The official explanation for Achmed never being shown on camera is that his body was not in "open casket" condition.

On the other hand, the obvious retort to this explanation is that Arab media have never balked at showing gory imagery, so how come Achmed's supposedly too-mutilated-for-TV body hasn't shown up on al-Jazeera?

there are many excellent Palestinian journalists working for the Western press in Gaza

Really? How would they know if they can't get into Gaza? Is there any other place in the world where excellent journalists operate in totalitarian regimes? Why isn't it obvious that we can't possibly get excellent reports from people who do not have freedom of speech?

Why did Maddy Mengle leave Gaza after just one week? It would seem his skills, such as they appear to be, are more needed now then when he was actually in Gaza.

The other brothers name was "Achmed?" Spelled that way? Now I'm regretting my pet name for the Ramattan cameraman. I was going for Achmed the dead terrorist...

WHOOPS,

I actually saw a report on BBC America last night where they casually mentioned that Palestinian doctors reported they were finding children shot by Isreali soldiers at close range. No verification, no evidence, just the word of Palestinian doctors reported as fact becuase it fit the image of monstrous Isreali soldiers killing innocent children that the media wants to convey. There is simply no way for Isreal to win the media war. Still I think this war is going extremely well for Isreal.
