All of the mocking of Obama and his asinine policies sometimes obscures the fact that we really are in new, treacherous waters in this country. The religious fervor of his supporters during the campaign may well carry over into elections for years to come. There is the potential for this Admin. to become just the beginning of a giant leap backwards for America (and free countries everywhere).

It is the complete trust in Obama that worries me. Even supporters of Bush never thought he would pay for mortgages or cars. A quote by Noonan about one speech hardly equates with the transformational inspiration and leg tingles felt by Obama's worshipers.
The other factor that will keep a Republican from gaining mythical status is the complete fawning of the media and entertainment over Democrats and Obama in particular. Negative Democrat stories get the axe or the source gets investigated. This is playing out over the Biden daughter coke snorting vs. the Bush girls drinking, or Bristol Palin's BF's mother's arrest.

An excellent article by James Lewis at "The American Thinker" ties right in with this topic.
...Plato, Socrates and Aristotle yearned for a life of reason, because they saw so little of it in their own world. They became the intellectual founders of modern civilization, which also shows us a constant struggle between madness and reason. Human societies seem to be prone to madness. The life of reason, like perfect love, is an ideal that is never quite realized. ......

About a half-hour into the situation, we ran across of couple of young ladies (and I use the term loosely) with about four kids in tow between them, and one of them had another on the way. When we asked them if they had heard that President Reagan had been shot, the pregnant one replied:
"Good! I hope he dies!"

My skepticism about Obama grew the more I learned about him, but it's this mad, blind cult of Obama that really concerns me. As long as so many people are under his spell it's going to be hard to get people to notice what he's really all about.

As a student of history, I've always been very skeptical of any politician with a cult of personality. Just look at the leaders throughout history with such a cult, all of them dictators and the like.
My skepticism about Obama grew the more I learned about him, but it's this mad, blind cult of Obama that really concerns me. As long as so many people are under his spell it's going to be hard to get people to notice what he's really all about.
Has there ever been a politician in the US with such a strong cult of personality? I can't think of one.

Not Obama and the bankruptcy of America and the endangerment of US citizens and our allies. Even the great people and great citizens of the world. From Mexico and their people stuck in the drug wars, too Afghan people and Iraq citizens who want peace and the ability to survive.

I saw a guy driving a car down the street here in DC this past weekend that had Obama signs taped to his side windows. Thereby, of course, restricting the driver's view. A metaphor there, I think.
At my son's preschool there is always a Smart Car parked that has a 0 bumper sticker right over the 'Smart Car' tag.
It cracks me up because the Smart Car only seats two people, has an incredibly uncomfortable ride, saves very little more gas than the Honda Fit (which can seat 4/5 people), is wildly expensive compared to worth, will get crushed in any collision, and takes only premium gas. It's also very popular with ill informed liberals.
Seems like another metaphor to me.

Critical thinking simply is no longer being taught. Schools have become indoctrination centers. Kids are being told what to think, not how to think, and have been for at least 30 years. This trend is also responsible for the collapse of the American Journalism trade.
This is the shame of my generation.
The scary part is that the schools claim to teach critical thinking skills but schools neglect to teach facts, research methods or reasoning. The children learn to think using emotion based patterns. Just like liberals.

I got to witness the budding of the next great cult in politics yesterday. I had occasion to be in the audience at the awards ceremony for the Texas State Science Fair. The keynote speaker was a Texas state representative by the name of Joaquin Castro. Mr Castro, a democrat, is in his early 30's, Hispanic, Harvard law degree, good looking, and born in the San Antonio barrio. He is considered THE up and coming Hispanic politician nationwide.
Now why he was asked to speak at the state Science fair for high schoolers was beyond me but his speach consisted of mentioning nearly every city in Texas, which when each was mentioned caused a minor hysteria and cheer from the students from that area. This was just about it, along with the obligatory "work hard", "you are the best", yada yada yada.
The woman sitting next to me was nearly in tears mentioning how beautiful the speach was. I could just see the cult forming. However, blessedly, the high schoolers there, all science nerds to the core, seemed mildly bored and I asked my son what he thought of the speach and he couldn't recall in that he was too busy texting people.

"William Hazlitt, the 19th-century English essayist, argued that man was by nature "a worshipper of idols and a lover of kings." As savages, Hazlitt wrote, we fashioned “gods of wood and stone and brass,” but now, thinking ourselves above superstition, “we make kings of common men, and are proud of our own handiwork.”

Now, however, Mr. Magliocchetti’s generosity is coming to an abrupt halt: his firm, the PMA Group, is closing its doors next week, after reports that federal prosecutors had recently raided his office and his home. And many on Capitol Hill, recalling the scandal that mushroomed around the lobbyist Jack Abramoff, are wondering who else will be ensnared in the investigation as prosecutors pore over the financial records and computer files of one of K Street’s most influential lobbyists, known both for the billions of dollars in earmarks he obtained for his clients and for his open hand toward those he sought to influence.

This Obama worship is indicative of a number of worrisome trends in the Left.
Slacker theory suggests that as more people do less, fewer do more, and in the political arena this translates to increasing tyranny. The fact is that the mindless Obama supporters have not done their homework, they are simply seduced by his charisma - that does not bode well. "Obama will do it" makes people even more mindless and dependent.
Another problem is the continuing disenfranchisement of non-Leftist interests. With the most Liberal of senators elected, the real concerns of non-Liberals are increasingly marginalized as outdated or unimportant. By focusing on Obama as archetypal good, those not consistent with his positions are even more demonized.
Finally there's the raw political power it tacitly grants Obama to conceive of and attempt to implement his poorly thought-out experiments.

I was working at my home town newspaper back when President Reagan was shot. I was a photographer (you don't say?). The news came across the wire and my boss told me "Quick grab your camera! We'll do some man-in-the-street interviews!"
About a half-hour into the situation, we ran across of couple of young ladies (and I use the term loosely) with about four kids in tow between them, and one of them had another on the way. When we asked them if they had heard that President Reagan had been shot, the pregnant one replied:
"Good! I hope he dies!"This response, of course, was not printed. Draw your own conclusions.
I spent one year teaching high school & was in class when Regan was shot.
When it was announced over the loud speaker. the kids cheered.

Beyond AIG: A Bill to let Big Government Set Your Salary
The new legislation, the "Pay for Performance Act of 2009," would impose government controls on the pay of all employees -- not just top executives -- of companies that have received a capital investment from the U.S. government. The measure is not limited just to those firms that received the largest sums of money, or just to the top 25 or 50 executives of those companies. It applies to all employees of all companies involved, for as long as the government is invested. And it would not only apply going forward, but also retroactively to existing contracts and pay arrangements of institutions that have already received funds.
In addition, the bill gives Geithner the authority to decide what pay is "unreasonable" or "excessive." And it directs the Treasury Department to come up with a method to evaluate "the performance of the individual executive or employee to whom the payment relates."
You asked for it, you got it, bend over...sung to the old Toyota jingle.

This goes directly to the topic:
Blame for downturn not fixed on Obama
6 in 10 back his handling of the economy, new poll finds
That's the headline on the article, but it includes this paragraph:
Despite the increasing optimism about the future, the nation's overall mood remains gloomy, and doubts are rising about some of the administration's prescriptions for the economic woes. Independents are less solidly behind Obama than they have been, fewer Americans now express confidence that his economic programs will work, barely half of the country approves of how the president is dealing with the federal budget deficit, and the political climate is once again highly polarized.
So - supposedly - 6 in 10 back Obama's handling of the economy, but embedded in the article is the paragraph above.
It's all about hope, even in the face of reality. That's cult-like.
And sad.

During the visit in February he urged the audience to reject teachings that stand in opposition to traditional Islamic theology (it is not in the article).
Anyway, one of the islands (Mayotte), had a vote coming up, and they had to decide whether to break away from the Government of the Comoros and it's President who is a Cleric trained in Iran and do away with traditional Muslim beliefs. Polygamy, wife beating, women getting married in their early teens etc.
The Islamic clerics asked the people of Mayotte to vote against breaking away from the Comoros and its Islamic traditions.
Guess how the vote went. Well more than 95% of the people of Mayotte voted to break with the Islamic clerics and become a part of France.

I wonder how the people of Mayotte can recognize stupidity when they see it, but the Columbia faculty can't recognize folly of giving the Iranian President the time of day?
I wonder how Iran's President feels about his campaign stop?

yes but there is certainly nothing brilliant about that...Kennedy was a dud with great hair and a chisled jaw....some things never change
And a war hero. Can't forget that part. It was drummed into us kids every single day at school.

Warren G. Harding. Had the looks, height, the voice, the demeanor and the presence of a president. Didn't have the chops though, and one of the worst Presidents in U.S. history.
Obama is this century's Harding.

We have a man who is the love child of Karl Marx and Groucho Marx and the MSM and half the nation just can't get over how dreamy he is.
Hey! That's insulting to Groucho, who positively brimmed with wit and genuine humor:
Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it, misdiagnosing it and then misapplying the wrong remedies.

I wasn't raised to idolize JFK, but at least he was a patriot, and smart enough to know who our international friends are.

Mandela?

Let's just blame the Israelites for this mess. They wanted a king and Samuel not liking the idea asks G-d, and G-d warning what they were asking for, gave them one, Saul and when Saul messed up, here comes the cult of David. /yes I'm being very sarcastic about the blame
Being a politician means abandoning one's principles for the so-called greater good; putting ordinary people under control at the politician's whim. If Mr. Smith goes to Washington, he would just get as corrupted as the other thieves in their dens.

Listen, even during the height of Bush's popularity - people were not transforming him into a God like figure -despite the cherry picking of the quotes in the article from Liddy, Noonan, and Barnes. We all knew that he was all too human. Nice try.

Actually he was not a war hero. It turns out the the PT-109 thing was over-hyped by Ted Sorenson. Actually Kennedy was lucky he was not court martialed. Also (even though it was not JFK's fault), his father was a Nazi sympathizer.

You just got to toughen it up. I know its painful, but if you deal with it mentally, you are going to get better faster. If you try to take it easy, the pain will last longer. I know it sounds weird, but it is what I learned with dealing with many Doctors and Nurses through the years. Hope you get better soon.

All those t-shirts with a politician's face emblazoned -- it makes me sick.
They were hawking Obama merch (of the disgusting shepard fairey variety) inside the Smithsonian, for god's sake (we were in DC this weekend for the first time since the inauguration).
In New York, I suspect we'll be seeing street vendors selling leftover Obama hats and gaudy t-shirts for the next ten years (just like you still see people around ground zero selling cheap chinese-made 9-11 photo books).
Here in NYC (in the shadow of the ruins of the WTC) they are still hawking Obama merchandise with his Kim Jong-Il type of worshipful visage gazing back at you. Pretty neo Stalinist if you ask me.

Yes he cut taxes across the board, somethign that Nixion (the alleged conservative), never did. JFK was a patriot but an inconsequential president (for almost 1,000 days).
202 | HippieforLife Tue, Mar 31, 2009 10:10:44am |
It hit me shortly after his inauguration that one of the main reasons he makes me uncomfortable is that this is the first time in my life that a president has been younger than I! I know, it's silly; but, it also goes to his lack of any meaningful experience.
I never really thought that he was such a gifted speaker or particulary inspiring. Words like "hope" and "change" are "just words" as the O said.
When he uses these words they are empty and hollow.

He is the quintessential empty suit. He reminds me of the Robert Redford character in The Candidate, Sen. Bob McKay who when he wins the Senate seat says to his campaign manager Peter Boyle "What do we do now?"

Here in Washington, DC, there is a noticeable decline in the selling of Obama paraphenalia. Shirts, framed photos, etc are still available and every street vendor has at least a few on hand. However, the public is awakening and not buying that crap at high prices. It is still amazing to see months old magazines with Obama's face on the cover for sale.

"And he’s not only talking about Barack Obama, but all politicians."
Certainly, but the throngs pawns who fawn slobbering-fawningly over Obama are as 'baby deer-stuck-in-the-headlight' of Obambi as a fawn can get. If they were beef they'd be Kobe. Add to this the fairly unanimous numbers of Obambi fawns fawning from the MSM, the Matrix and the 'Love Potent No. 9' mentality for the TOTUS is very disturbing to non-fawners. yet, I do suspect the number of fawn-less to be growing exponentially these days. Or, bluntly stated, his bullshit has begun to run thin and increasingly foul smelling. From a fawn-less voter, he does not pass the 'smell' test and pawns are always the first to go in the game. Fawning pawns are even easier targets.

Remember the Smithsonian wanted to exhibit the Enola Gay plane that dropped bombs on Hiroshima or Nagasaki, to teach that AMERICANS were genocidal military killers, without mentioning what Japan did to millions of Chinese, Burmese, Philippinos or POWs or Pearl Harbor people.
In the Smithsonian's defense -- the natural history museum is great...and a couple of years ago I was able to attend a party hosted at the new Dulles Air & Space facility...an old hangar with just the most fantastic collection of air and space machines you're likely ever to see in one room (including the actual Enola Gay -- which is impressive).
Here is the accompanying signpost for the Enola Gay: [Link: picasaweb.google.com...]
Here are the rest of the photos (including the space shuttle), though many of them did not come out very well: [Link: picasaweb.google.com...]
