Meet the Leaders of the Anti-Mosque Movement

US News • Views: 17,059

Hatemonger Pamela Geller has apparently founded an “umbrella” group called the American Freedom Defense Initiative for her anti-Muslim activities, with an attorney named David Yerushalmi, and they are going to be allowed to put their misleading anti-Cordoba billboard on MTA buses in New York. Geller and Yerushalmi are using the First Amendment to justify their demand to place this distorted advertisement — the same amendment that they deny applies to Muslim Americans. Here’s video from New York’s KPIX.

FLV Video

This is a good time for some background information on Pamela Geller’s associate David Yerushalmi, who is an advocate for criminalizing Islam itself and imposing 20-year sentences on practicing Muslims. Yes, really.

He’s not simply anti-Muslim, though; Yerushalmi also wrote a now-infamous article titled “On Race: A Tentative Discussion, Part II,” in which he advocated a return to a pre-Bill of Rights Constitution, and the restriction of voting rights to white male land-owners. Again … yes, really.

Here’s a lengthy article at Talk To Action on the bizarre views and causes of David Yerushalmi: Anti-Semitic White-Supremacist Orthodox Jew Tries To Ban Islam In US.

Yerushalmi has deleted as much evidence of the “On Race” article as he could; he removed it from the Internet Archive and the Google cache, and put his entire website behind a registration wall. But here’s a PDF that contains the full article, and it’s as ugly and twisted a piece of racism as anything I’ve ever seen. Yerushalmi opens by calling Islam “an evil religion,” and “blacks … the most murderous of peoples.”

A quote:

There is a reason the founding fathers did not give women or black slaves the right to vote. You might not agree or like the idea but this country’s founders, otherwise held in the highest esteem for their understanding of human nature and its affect on political society, certainly took it seriously. Why is that? Were they so flawed in their political reckonings that they manhandled the most important aspect of a free society - the vote? If the vote counts for so much in a free and liberal democracy as we “know” it today, why did they limit the vote so dramatically?

David Yerushalmi, however, comes off looking almost sane next to another founding board member of Pamela Geller’s American Freedom Defense Initiative, John Joseph Jay. The Southern Poverty Law Center has a blog post about Jay’s almost unbelievable anti-Muslim rants: Prime Islam-Basher Pam Geller Outdone by Colleague.

According to the Daily Kos, AFDI board member John Joseph Jay recently has posted a series of truly vicious anti-Muslim rants — apparently without the benefit of a capital letter function on his computer.  “if islam kills non-believers as a matter of religious doctrine, then why should muslims expect to be free of retribution in the name of those islam kills?” he wrote. “why should muslims get a free pass? if it is right for muslims to kill non-believers, then why is it no less right for the rest of us to kill muslims?”

In another screed, the Daily Kos said Jay wrote: “there are, friends, no ‘innocent’ muslims. they obey. and they obey the dictates of the koran on jihad. and, they obey the commands of local clerics. in this, they have no choice. because, friends, there is no ‘free will’ in islam, one obeys  the dictates of allah.”

Last month, Jay expanded on his advocacy of violence against Muslims to include people in positions of power. He commented on his blog about a magazine article regarding America’s “ruling class” as follows: “friends, if you wish to retain and preserve individual virtue, you are going to have to kill in order to do so. if we are to excise the ruling class, it will be with violence. they used violence to attain their privilege, they use it nakedly in the form of the s.i.e.u. [an apparent reference to the SEIU, the Service Employees International Union] and black panther thugs in elective politics to maintain it, they contemplate relocation camps to preserve it. … buy guns. buy ammo. be jealous of your liberties. and understand, you are going to have to kill folks, your uncles, your sons and daughters, to preserve those liberties.”

That’s an ugly sentence. Bad for New York. Bad for the U.S. Bad for Israel

“they obey the commands of local clerics. in this, they have no choice. because, friends, there is no ‘free will’ in islam, one obeys the dictates of allah.”

Now let’s replace “clerics” with “priests” and “islam” with “catholicism” and “allah” with “jesus”

Don’t worry, somebody will find ways to plumb new depths of lunacy. I once thought that the Troofers were the epitome of utter craziness, believing in a conspiracy so large and convoluted that there was absolutely no way it could be hidden so well. Then Obama got elected and I found how low that bar had been set.

The less relevant they’ve become in US political circles the more open with their outright racism and bigotry they get. They don’t care about the associations being seen anymore because if the Republicans are so desperate that they allow the bircher and neoconfederate bigots back into the ever shrinking tent they know there’s room for them.

Many masks have fallen since the election, and the GOP has gone from Big tent to pup tent.

I suppose that the problem is, it’s not a very good joke. The point being made was that most of the countries that put “Democratic” in their names wind up being anything but (totalitarian, oligarchy, dictatorship, etc…). The Democratic party may be any number of things but it is Democratic. Or are you one of the crowd that likes to cry tyranny and dictatorship about a democratically elected leader that has policies that disagree with you?

I hear that kind of rhetoric from my family sometimes. I simply make a more general comment about how I think people can be susceptible to racially charged fear mongering and not realize it (while trying not to sound accusatory). Their defensive reactions usually tell me that my words hit their desired targets.

Beer foam consists of polypeptides of five different classifications, divided by their relative hydrophobicity. As the hydrophobicity of the polypeptide groups increases, so does the stability of the foam.

Increase the hydrophobicity of your polypeptide groups and you should be fine.

And if it is “scared ground” why then build One World Trade Center? Like I said before that building will be open to all potential leasors including those owned by Muslims.

I often ask myself when do they plan on sunsetting this attitude. How long will these people retain their grudge against all Muslims and characterize them as if they were an entirely homogeneous group. Including going against America citizens who happen to be Muslim.

By now it is very clear. Geller, Spencer, Yerushalmi, et al, do not direct their endeavors against terrorists. It is all a calculated plan which directs their venom against all Muslims even those that are Americans.

The God of the Jews that were killed? The God of the Muslims that were killed? The God that the hijackers did it in the name of? The God of the shintos, the hindus or the buddhists?

It’s a plot of ground that is meaningful. It is not sacred.

Tell that to Giuliani and the WTC cross. The reason that so many Christians think the site, the tragedy, its pain and suffering belongs to them and them alone is because Saint Rudy personally expedited their symbolic claim over it.

Note, please, the visual lie in Geller’s bus ads:

The Twin Towers are shown from quite a distance away, where they still dominate the skyline.

The “mega-mosque”, all 13 storeys of it, is photographed (and Photoshopped) from below, to look like it would loom over the Towers themselves, if they still stood. And it has a giant crescent-and-star on it, which is pure fiction at this point.

Propaganda that would make Goebbels proud. I wonder how many of Geller’s family realize what a shanda she is.

Oh, izzat all? Clears it right up. *burp*

Glad to be of help. Transversely, you can maximize the absence of hydrophobicity by reducing the exposure to oxygen of the polypeptides…the best way to do this is to hold the bottom of the can against your upper front teeth, punch the can upward against your jaw, then pop the top and tilt your head back simultaneously, thereby utilizing the propulsive force of the expanding carbon dioxide to facilitate the contents of the beer directly into your throat whilst making a singular swallowing motion.

Shot-gunning beer…it’s not just for children.

OT beer question:

I’m not much of a beer drinker usually, but at 100 freaking degrees out, it seemed like a good plan. What makes a beer in a bottle go all foamy and overflow after taking a sip? I’t s happened twice now and it’s really annoying.

Are you storing the beer upright in your fridge? Best thing to do is store it upright, and upon opening, pour it immediately into a glass. I think the foam has to do with the carbonation, but I’m not all that knowledgeable about the actual mechanics.

I know that every group has its assholes.

I never judge an entire group of people by their defective members.

But, whenever I see someone like Yerushalmi, my heart breaks. For a Jew to be so twisted and so bigoted, so unflinchingly racist hurts me.

Of all the people on the planet who should have the lesson about racism and stereotyping clear it is us. Of all the people who should get the message about not spreading lies to defame whole peoples, it is us.

He actually said that blacks are the most murderous?

I really can’t believe that. I really can’t. I mean I believe what I see was written, but I am in a bit of shock, that a fellow Jew could be that much of a rasha.

We can only hope that he repents and becomes more civilized after the initiatives of utter monsters like him are defeated.

The only thing dumber than a Democrat or a Republican is when those pricks work together. You see, in our two-party system, the Democrats are the party of no ideas and the Republicans are the party of bad ideas. It usually goes something like this. A Republican will stand up in Congress and say, “I’ve got a really bad idea.” And a Democrat will immediately jump to his feet and declare, “And I can make it shittier.”

As much as it pains me to say this, I seriously feel that if Geller, Spencer, Yerushalmi, and their fellow travelers had their way, they’d push for Muslims to be rounded up into camps just like we did to the Japanese-Americans during WWII (or worse).

I think the rhetoric’s changed a bit in recent months, with the “banned and blocked” now trading “battle scars” and talking about just how shitty LGF has gotten.

“That place sucks since we left”
“Yeah,, I knew it would, thats why I got myself banned”
“Yeah, but I hate him more ,,, oh,, wait ,, we now talk about how much it sucks there now!!”

SIOA co-founder: kill your liberal relatives and all Muslims

John Joseph Jay sounds a lot like one of the cretins at the stalker blog.

John Joseph Jay

“america’s ruling class—and the perils of revolution” is a brilliant essay describing and explaining the origins of america’s ruling elites and the things which they believe, and why those beliefs are diametrically apposite of most of the ideals you and i cherish. the essay explains how the ruling classes have become entrenched in, do in fact constitute, america’s governmental bureaucracy and academia.

and, it explains how the democratic party has become the vehicle of this class, and exerts its power by patronage and dolling out the spoils of the ruling classes dominance. this is not so surprising, as all ruling classes have done the same. but, this article explains why this particular ruling class is so inimical to your values, and why it threatens their very existence and preservation.

and, why it threatens our very existence.

if you are to understand anything of this, you must read this essay. or, you don’t have to if you don’t want to. just don’t blame angelo m. codevilla for your “discomfort” as you are being ground into meal by the treads of an armored personnel carrier.
[…]
if we are to excise the ruling class, it will be with violence. they used violence to attain their privilege, they use it nakedly in the form of the s.i.e.u. and black panther thugs in elective politics to maintain it, they contemplate relocation camps to preserve it, and they will violently resist and suppress any and all efforts to be removed from their privilege.

buy guns. buy ammo. be jealous of your liberties. and, understand, you are going to have to kill folks, your uncles, your sons and daughters, to preserve those liberties.

Well, we all know that argument is bunk. Can you imagine the 60 Minutes report on people like this? It would be sensational! Exposing people to this information would get people cringing back into their holes again quite quickly. However, we know the media has a corporate bias, and they will do what they can to ensure we are worried about Gay Marriage, Muslims, and Mexicans, while the economy burns around us. We should be quiet lemmings, and continue to consume.

I am so happy to see another ad for a Muslim matrimonial site with a cute Muslim grrrl here on the blog today. It sort of balances the slavering insanity portrayed in the post.

Muslims are people. They are as varied as any other group of people. I just found out that my town has a Progressive Islamic Community, not far from where I live. I’m planning to go there and do some friend-making one of these days.

That people can sink so low into racist dementia as to embrace someone like Yerushalmi makes me sick in the pit of my stomach.

Really..They still hating on me? I haven’t gone there in months and probably never will again…Sorry Stalkers..I could care less about you chumps.. Get an effen life and stick to your own blog..I could care less you idiots..

They don’t matter. In the context of this thread, people like Gellar and Yerushalami matter. Over there in the likeness of those two they have the mamzer Buzzsawmonkey and a corva named Guggi.

I am about to unload some angry painful vitriol here mixed with something from the heart. I apologize in advance to those who don’t like my more emotional posts.

But after seeing this, I need to say something.

Judaism we are taught was founded by our ancestor Abraham. The tradition holds that his greatest attribute was kindness. He cared so much for others, that he left a conversation with G-d to take care of guests we are taught. We are taught that his tent had four doors on it so he could receive the hungry or the lonely or those seeking aid or just company from all directions.

We are taught that Moses was tested as the leader because he was the sort who would go to any length to bring back a lost sheep. And indeed, that is when he came upon the burning bush.

It doesn’t mater if you believe those stories.

What matters is the lessons we are taught to take from it. Kindness to all. Desire for justice for all, hope for a better world for all.

We are taught that ritual means nothing in the absences of charity and humility. This is the ringing message of the prophets. We are taught that the great sin which cost us our Temple and two thousand painful years of exile was baseless hatred.

For two thousand years, the tradition has been about justice and hope for a better future built by the moral and upright actions of men doing what they should be doing even when it is hard, or doesn’t pay well in this world. Charity is not an option. Care for the environment is not an option. Care for the poor or the defenseless is not an option. We will not even slaughter a chicken in the presence of other chickens lest we cause more suffering. The message there is not to care for the emotions of chickens. It is if you care that much for a chicken, then how much for a human?

And then I see scum, just utter scum like the ones listed before and my heart breaks. My heart breaks that some who know nothing of us, will see them and think that they speak for us.

My heart breaks that they have fallen so far.

We Jews are one family. Somehow, we as a community failed them.

But, they are rashas. there is no way around the reality of a rasha.

A tsaddick is a holy person. A tsaddick enlightens those around him, fills them with noble ideals and encourages them to strive to be better. A tsaddika is a woman with those traits.

A rasha is the opposite. Not just a wrong doer, but one who preaches darkness and hatred. One who leads others down evil paths.

It is Elul. Alouette will understand why I was actually crying while typing this.

re: #181 SinisterBen

Well, we all know that argument is bunk. Can you imagine the 60 Minutes report on people like this? It would be sensational! Exposing people to this information would get people cringing back into their holes again quite quickly. However, we know the media has a corporate bias, and they will do what they can to ensure we are worried about Gay Marriage, Muslims, and Mexicans, while the economy burns around us. We should be quiet lemmings, and continue to consume.

We should be quiet, and continue to be consumed by racism, xenophobia, fear and hatred of the Other, and desperate concern over what those people down the street who dress all funny and shit are doing.

People like these, and these, and these.

Oh, wait…not those last ones. White supremacists love them now, since they met the Harpy. I meant these.

weird stuff

Sometimes when I have been told they have a particular hate on about me. Other times when I need a good cross-section of the true crazy on the right.

Some of those people were ones I knew from here. They weren’t always as vile and degraded as they are now. The slip into madness, I confess is curious to me.

I confess that they are like a particularly repulsive species of mold to me. On the one hand they are utterly repugnant, but on the other, strangely fascinating under a microscope.

But no, I really don’t look at them more than once or twice a month.

Interesting post over on Balloon Juice about the Esquire profile of The Discraced Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.

[Ex-wife Marianne Gingrich] gives a jaundiced look. “There’s no way,” she says. She thinks he made a choice long ago between doing the right thing and getting rich, and when you make those choices, you foreclose other ones. “He could have been president. But when you try and change your history too much, and try and recolor it because you don’t like the way it was or you want it to be different to prove something new … you lose touch with who you really are. You lose your way.”

She stops, ashes her cigarette, exhales, searching for the right way to express what she’s about to say.

He believes that what he says in public and how he lives don’t have to be connected,” she says. “If you believe that, then yeah, you can run for president.

I would hope so too.

If you ever take up wearing a keepah after you were not brought up doing so, you notice though that sometimes subtly and others more overtly, when you mess up, it is no longer just you as an individual messing up. There is always some of “that Jew” messed up.

And no, not everyone gives that vibe, but it is ubiquitous.

I used to reflect that this may be the real purpose of wearing a keepah. It forces a certain level of consciousness in one’s actions.

I have a tendency, which I have I believe gotten better with to vent at extremely stupid or arrogant posters here.

My beloved Miss S, simply remarked once that I could write so harshly because no one could see my keepah through the computer screen.

re: #209 LudwigVanQuixote

It is Elul. Alouette will understand why I was actually crying while typing this.

illegitimati non corrundum: don’t let the bastards grind you down.

There is always evil in the world, but as evil goes, this is weak. It looks stronger than it is because the internet affords every big mouth his/her 15 minutes of fame. There were just as many of this type in the good old days, but they mostly couldn’t afford their own radio station and the MSM wouldn’t cover them.

They’re still insignificant because they don’t get much traffic and what they get is mostly drive-by clicks from the morbidly curious.

The world, apart from its sobering climate problem, really is getting better. Literacy rates are up. Death by violence, counting both free-lance and state violence, is down. Food per capita is up. Totalitarian regimes are in retreat: Russia is no longer Stalinist, China is not in any real sense Maoist any more, and North Korea can only pull so far on its Chinese leash.

While Myanmar is a local tragedy, and there are others, they are merely local.

We have it in our physical means to master the challenges ahead. Nature has been doing her level best these last few weeks to get our attention, and from news reports, with some success. We’ll rise to the occasion.

Ludwig, did you know that the great Martin Buber wrote a novel?

It is all about Hassidim living in the shtetls in the age of the Napoleonic wars.

One of the protagonists believes that Napoleon is the Gog of the Bible and gets into all kinds of serious monkey business with sorcery and stuff, trying to bring about the advent of Mochiach.

His counterpart, the wise one, points out over and over again that the exile of the Jews and the sufferings of the diaspora are the result of baseless hatred, and without doing something about that, any attempts to force the hand of history are not only pointless, but blasphemous.

I read the book when I was a student in Germany. Buber wrote in German, but then usually translated his own works into Hebrew. It is available from Amazon in English translation.

Some of the characters are unforgettable.

What the rashas are doing now borders on trying to foment and fan the flames of a war that they hope will result in the Millennium, or Moshiach, or some kind of grand conflagration that they assume will bring about their little personal paradises.

Nice to meet you as well. The bad news is, my individual quest for knowledge ended my whole religious side. I didn’t come out without my scrapes though, I do like to meditate. Like I said, hippy mom. Something was bound to stick.

Meditation is as much a mental discipline as a religious practice, in my opinion.

Pleased to meet you as well. I knew some Baha’is in a past life. Had some very interesting conversations (they were trying to bring me into the fold) but couldn’t get past the whole problem I have with all religion, namely the belief that God has a brand preference.

I find it a bit disturbing that the SPLC used a hate site ( daily kos) for their information.

I find it a bit obvious that you leeean back on distractions from years past in a post about anti-Muslim crazies. And going after the SPLC in the process. Because you go after the strengths, right? You take an organization that does good work, and then you try and smear them.

This shit just happened on the Newt thread a few days ago, the pushback was making it about Clinton, because that’s how you guys work. That’s how you distract, that’s how you muddy the waters and throw up distractions and toss your cynicism around. That’s how you take real news on a blog, and try and make it into garbage in the comments. Like alchemy!

To be honest with you, that was my specific objection. We had “Baha’i Prayers” and “Baha’i Lessons” and “Baha’i Rules” to me, if it was to be a “Progressive Revelation” then everything should just be “prayers”, “lessons”, and “rules.” It would be universal, and whole, not rife with different messages, different rules, and different ideologies.

My historical grievances against the Spanish people have been revealed.

(I’ve learned that it is OK to hate Muslims forever because they conquered parts of Spain in the Middle Ages, however, the Expulsion and the Inquisition are evidently just things I should get over. Collateral damage. It was a long time ago. No big deal.)

Just to nitpick a bit —it’s a very big stretch to say that Muslims conquered parts of Spain (and Portugal) during the 8th century. The Muslim campaign is usually referred to as the conquest of the Iberian Peninsula simply because there was no such thing as “Spain”, and there wouldn’t be for centuries to come. The most consensual “birth” of Spain is usually placed at the 15th century, with the unification of Castilla and Aragón. The use of the modern word “España” can be traced to 12th century documents, but that’s it.

Well Hoops you can join the tribe. If you are serious, it takes about a year.

As to the chosen part, that is something that needs to be expounded on.

We were not chosen as more loved or better. Chosen means we were given the mission of repair of the world and to seek and create justice. The entire chosen is a double standard that applies more stringently to us.

My favorite old Jewish joke is an old man looking up and saying:

There are more anti-semitic acts in the US than there have been similar acts against muslims in any given year. There is still more discrimination against blacks in the US than against muslims.

He’s president, not king, and some of the far left blogs seem to think he has more power than he does. I was the guy that was happy with health care reform, I was not the guy who was losing his mind because we didnt get single payer.

I also never expected heavy financial oversight because this is America, and financial institutions here hold too many cards. We fail to learn these lessons every time, we just sorta pave over the problem and ignore it, then it comes back.

I disagree. Some mosque protests. Big deal.
No one is stringing up muslims. There was no pogrom of muslims after 9/11. There’s been no massive campaign of mosque burnings, no great number of discrimination cases.
There are more anti-semitic acts in the US than there have been similar acts against muslims in any given year. There is still more discrimination against blacks in the US than against muslims.

So the rhetoric doesn’t become an issue until people are being strung up?

Classy.

All joking aside, who doesn’t want gays to move into their community, property value goes up, you get some nice places to eat and drink, and the night life is friggin’ amazing.

Conversely, old white conservatives move into your area, you get a Neighborhood Walmart, and neighbors who won’t make eye contact and the nightlife, well, it starts at 7:30.

I guess you haven’t seen many of the sex scandals involving said old white conservatives. I bet their nightlife could rival just about anything.

Daily Kos is linked above in this article.

Deal with it. You don’t like it take it up with Charles.

G.K. Chesterton and G.B. Shaw were utter enemies in debate, and the best of friends off the podium. They enjoyed each other’s wit. Chesterton, the converted Catholic, and Shaw, the rationalist atheist, had more fun poking holes in the other guy’s arguments than anything you can do with your clothes on.

The sign of a reasonable man or woman is the ability to see that your antagonist of yesterday may have a valid point today.

Some people here missed out on that part of what an “argument” is all about, and continue with the old, ancient, sempiternal schemata of drooling automatic rejection of anything an opponent says.

Pam Geller is a good example, may her name vanish. CaptDiggs is one of our very own epigones of idiocy.

Embrace the downding.

I really didn’t like the stunts the firebaggers pulled during the HCR debate. That said, I think it’s useful that there is some kind of pressure and criticism, no matter how feeble and ignored (as the firebaggers are, let’s face it) coming from the left.

I say this partly because most compromises with the GOP made legislation objectively worse. This was true for HCR, FinReg, civil libertarian issues, etc.

Obama and the rest of the administration are politicians. If they only get bitching and whining from the right, they will do the math and react accordingly.

That’s why antisemitic acts and church burnings are of no concern to you…no political leverage.

All of this reminds me of the far left web sites that constantly attack Israel while pretending to care about palestinians.

You all have a nice evening.

Ok, we’re now sort of used to hearing the rest of this bullshit. But the “you don’t care about church burnings” is a new thing, right?

A town nearby, suburb of Houston, is about 4 square miles in size and has about 150 churches, many of them in strip center storefronts, as are pretty common here. The mayor of the town said “no more” and tried to get something in front of the town council to forbid any new churches since the town was going broke. With the laws determining that businesses like restaurants that serve alcohol, etc. can’t be within 100 feet of a church (or something), it got so that all was left was non-tax paying churches.

I don’t know how this ended up - probably nowhere, but it is an interesting issue.

Former Bush Aides Bash GOP’s New Stance On 14th Amendment As ‘Offensive,’ ‘Embarrassment’

Former aides to the George W. Bush Administration are retaliating against a recent flurry of Republican calls for a repeal or readdressing of the 14th Amendment, the landmark addition to the United States Constitution that, among other provisions, mandated that “All persons born or naturalized in the United States” would be granted American citizenship.

In response to a recent movement by GOP brass to combat the so-called “anchor baby” or “birth tourism” issue created by the 14th Amendment, Mark McKinnon, media adviser to Bush’s two presidential campaigns, attacked Republicans for forfeiting their allegiance to the legislative milestone.

“The 14th Amendment is a great legacy of the Republican party. It is a shame and an embarrassment that the GOP now wants to amend it for starkly political reasons,” McKinnon told Politico. “Initially Republicans rallied around the amendment to welcome more citizens to this country. Now it is being used to drive people away.”…..

There was one such issue in Houston that really pissed me off. There’s this fantastic BBQ restaurant on Clay Rd that had been there for probably two decades. Across the street was some pasture area that got sold to some church. The church puts up a tent (literally) and the city demanded that the restaurant had to move back about 50 feet due to the ordinances if they wanted to continue serving beer. They had the land. Had to build a whole new restaurant building at their cost because that church bought the property across the street. Seems the church should have been the one required to build back 50 feet since they were the late-comers.

Just got here. I have to say this John Joseph Jay reminds me of Chairman Mao. His evident desire to “smash the ruling class” makes it clear he was born at the wrong time: This asshole would have been a perfect Red Guard.

I was hoping to find Spencer and Pam Geller promoting it. The church sponsoring the event is also incredibly antisemitic too. They hate jews and are going to burn the Talmud as well…

What the fuck. No dog whistles there.
“When you’re burning these Qurans in September 11, throw a couple of Talmuds in with them, would you please?”

Stafford, southwest side. Wind found the article.

They say San Antonio is the capital of megachurches now, but Houston is the only one with a church previously used as the home of an NBA team. What was called the Summit from 1975-2000 was a great place for concerts, basketball and hockey games, etc. Now it’s where Joel Osteen saves souls and prints fat stacks of cash, not necessarily in that order.

Great line from the Stafford story:

That’s why antisemitic acts and church burnings are of no concern to you…no political leverage.

All of this reminds me of the far left web sites that constantly attack Israel while pretending to care about palestinians.

I can, they’re simple tribalists who don’t believe in the constitution.

it’s hard to stand up for the rights of people you don’t agree with, that’s why that constitution is so handy! it’s much easier to just be a dumb animal, ignore the notion that we have an establishment clause and just attackattack

I favorited this comment. So true, so true.

re: #318 darthstar

Individual diaries posted by any of the 250,000+ members don’t mean that Kos personally advocates them. Those diaries are regularly troll-rated until they disappear by the dKos community at large. I fully expect the same to happen here as people come to post objectionable material in the LGF pages…it won’t mean that Charles sucks the big one. It’ll just mean assholes appear (and disappear) on yet another internet web site.

I’m the only one here, but this is a thread I wanted to read.

Darth, exactly. When people try to pin down and blame forever a blog based on it’s commenter’s postings (as in diaries with Kos) just shows inflexibility. Hell, I would not have joined LGF in the old days either. And that, my friends, I think is the current basis for the pushback.

re: #354 captdiggs

YET mister. If you cannot see the parallels through your hatred, well, it’s fucked. Thats the whole problem here, if it’s the “other” it’s OK.

re: #316 Nimed

Just to nitpick a bit —it’s a very big stretch to say that Muslims conquered parts of Spain (and Portugal) during the 8th century. The Muslim campaign is usually referred to as the conquest of the Iberian Peninsula simply because there was no such thing as “Spain”, and there wouldn’t be for centuries to come. The most consensual “birth” of Spain is usually placed at the 15th century, with the unification of Castilla and Aragón. The use of the modern word “España” can be traced to 12th century documents, but that’s it.

Sorry, sloppy phrasing on my part.

//(But how can you nitpick like that, after centuries of occupation and near-genocide?)

Most of the “hatred” I see here emanates from those who ether think they are liberal thinkers, or pretend to be.
Blanket and broad brush statements about any who see a problem with the mosque at that site, republicans, even claims that any muslim who objects to that mosque is merely a *token* muslim…to be ignored, indicates far more prejudice and animosity than anything I have ever posted here
Seriously, some of the postings here these days are the mirror image of Geller’s rants . Just as much hate and sometimes irrationality only with a different target.

Insofar as this mosque or Islam is concerned my views are colored by my experiences, but I don’t hate any group of people. I don’t think that some here can really say that…and be honest with themselves.
