If you need to work 72-hour weeks to make a living holding down three part-time jobs at minimum wage without benefits in America, then meth makes it possible.

And since we treat our work force like another business expense to be optimized, we get emptied like a toner cartridge and tossed out once the pages start to fade.

That is an excellent way to increase short-term profits, but a lousy way to run an economy over the long term.

Maybe it is just bored gradmas?

Heh. When my grandma gets bored, she tries to take me out to eat. Even if she just finished eating. On the odd occasion that I take that offer under such circumstances, she just eats a few bites and takes the rest home.

All she really wants is the company, and to get out of her apartment for a little while. The sad thing is, due to the dementia, she quickly forgets that I hang out with her for a time nearly every day, and that I more often than not drag her along to run errands with me.

ages ago as a teenager, but I never saw what people got out of them. I like a good, restful sleep, and anything that robs me of that is not a positive thing.

WORD! My grandma got to be a rather dangerous driver. Poor reaction time, poor judgment, the whole lot. My aunt finally had enough, and had the DMV pull her license.

My grandma fought for over two years to get it back. Several failed written tests, and several failed driver's tests. One in which she drove with her wipers on in the dead heat of summer, and another that ended before she even pulled out of her parking stall at the DMV (she damn near ran two people over just backing out of the stall).

But after two years of this, the DMV decided to EPIC FAIL and give her back her DL. A decision that could have killed people, had my grandma not decided a couple of months later that she was no longer competent enough to drive.

Mom decided to stop driving when I moved her up to the Chicago area last year. She said there was too much traffic. AND she gave me her van. So, now I drive her around in her van. And she tries to pay for the gas too!

She is in a Senior Independent Living facility with her own apartment, meals provided, medical on-site, activites . . . . There is also a assisted-living wing.

So far, so good.

AND she knits.

My aunt got her one, and SHE IS AWESOME! She's only there 'bout twelve hours a week, but she cares about my grandma above and beyond the call of duty. She does get paid, but she's a friend to my grandma, and she's always calling me to make sure I know about this or that, frequently on her own time.

Call it blessed, fortunate, or lucky, but none of us could have hand picked a better caretaker.

And prior to this one, there was another one who would be on payroll, and leave my grandma sitting in their car while it was taking classes at the local city college. My family was right to keep that from me until well after the fact.

If you stretch the point, anthills think. If you stretch it further, some plants think. If you push the matter to its limit, some bacterial colonies think.

If you tighten the standards, you can strip things down to where you hold that few men think. Push it a bit more, and nothing and nobody anywhere truly "thinks".

Think or react to changes in their environment based on instinct? And as for men, or humankind is intended, it seems that not enough truly think, or maybe, even know how to. Critical thinking and logic often need to be taught. Instead we ply our youth with testing skills which teach neither.

It has been proven that 99.44% of what we do is out of instinct or hard-wired into our psyche, we spend a lot of time rationalizing that we had somehow thought of it ourselves.

But i am not going to give up my right to dispose of that 0.66% of free thought and action that I am capable of and will not deny it to anyone else.

It is just a mtter of keeping the remaining 99.44% from harming us...

The apartment complex manager (Mr. Patel) had his parents living in an apartment just down the hall from where we were staying. I'd eat dinner with them once a week. I love Indian Restaurants. I generally hate Indian/Middle Eastern run hotels. If you ever stop at a hotel that the owners live in one of the units? Keep driving.

I've spent thousands of nights in hotels over the past fifteen years. By far the most miserable nights were spent in those. It is to the point where; if I smell curry when I walk into the lobby? I walk out.

If it hadn't happened 100 times out of 105? I'd think I was being ridiculous and racist; and I'd fight the urge.

The one I stay in 90% of the time is an Indian owned hotel, though. But part of a large chain (HIE) that has standards.

FBI: No "Significant" Explosive Materials Found At Pentagon

At a press conference held moments ago, the Federal Bureau of Investigation revealed that there were "no significant explosive materials" inside a suspicious vehicle found near the Pentagon this morning. The man who has been brought into custody in connection with the investigation acted alone according to the FBI, and had no explosives in his possession, only "unusual items."

Morning.

Technically the USA can't afford another military action and that include Libya. But, affordability and actions never went hand in hand with this activity regardless of party. Secondly, it's perfectly natural, in a democracy, to not have everyone on the same page. And that also includes Libya. We are not a nation of drones last time I checked.

Al Qaeda posts ‘hit list’ of American targets

The US Homeland Security Department has sent out a warning after jihadist websites posted a ‘hit list’ of top American targets and vowed more attacks.

The list includes the names of 40 prominent figures from the government, U.S. military and media which it claims should be attacked.

The names on the hit list, which includes photographs and biographical information of the targets, are members of the Congress, Pentagon, executives of an American company involved in the production of drone aircrafts, and two prominent French executives.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has said the hit list appeared on the website, Ansar al-Mujahideen, after one poster highlighted Al Qaeda’s America born leader Adam Gadahn’s call to wage lone wolf attacks.

“While we have no information of any imminent terrorist threat to the United States or any U.S. persons, as always, we urge federal, state and local law enforcement, as well as the general public, to maintain increased vigilance for indications of preoperational or suspicious activity,” Department of Homeland Security spokesman, Chris Ortman was quoted as saying by Fox News.

The web posts also include suggestions to collect photographs as well as home and work addresses of the people on the possible target list.
