FBI Charges Mass. Man with Plotting Remote-Controlled Terror Attacks

“Enemies of Allah”
US News • Views: 26,040

Congratulations to the FBI for stopping another potential terror attack long before it could happen: Massachusetts Man Accused of Plotting to Bomb Washington.

His alleged plan to attack the Pentagon — detailed on two thumb drives that he delivered to the undercover agents, the affidavit said — involved using three remote-controlled planes, similar to military drones, guided by GPS equipment.

Mr. Ferdaus went to Washington in May to take photographs of the Pentagon, the Capitol and places in Potomac Park from where he planned to launch the explosives-filled aircraft. According to the affidavit, he described Americans as “enemies of Allah” and told undercover agents that his desire to attack the United States was so strong that “I just can’t stop; there is no other choice for me.”

In what seems an elaborate operation, undercover F.B.I. agents who had been talking to Mr. Ferdaus for months provided him with some of the necessary components for his planned attack, including six assault rifles, three grenades, 25 pounds of C-4 plastic explosives and even an F-86 remote-controlled aircraft. The explosives and guns were provided on Wednesday just before his arrest, law enforcement officials said.

I read he had made devices for improved IED's, and had rejoiced at the news he had killed American soldiers. (all a set up no one was actually hurt)

What a bastard. Throw away the key.

'The explosives and guns were provided on Wednesday just before his arrest, law enforcement officials said.'

. Mr. Ferdaus was permitted to handle the weapons and make shooting noises for a few moments before being arrested.

What an asshole, stupid too. Nifty looking model though. It actually represents an FJ-2 Fury, basically a navalized F-86.

These Wile E. Coyote inspired cruise missiles might have killed some unlucky person, but there is no way they could do significant damage to the Pentagon.

This seems like the vast majority of the terrorism related cases over the last decade, a big dog and pony show over nothing. This guy was long on desire but short on operational means, until he met the FBI. Every crime this man is accused of committing was facilitated by the FBI or their informant.

Still not big enough to do any serious damage to the Pentagon. The guy's an idiot who watched to many Michael Baysplosions or some shit. He could have hurt or killed a few people though so it's better that he was caught and busted.

Exactly. I've been thinking about this case this morning as well as other. How much of this man's activities is actually the creation of the FBI and their informants?

There have been some unfortunate incidents before with R/C models, but never one that got this much national coverage.

In 1979, a spectator at a Jets Patriots was killed when an R/C model crashed into the stands during a half-time show. The model itself was a well-known novelty type, the flying lawnmower. I've seen these fly and it is really a hilarious effect, all the more so because it sounds like an actual lawnmower.

In 1999, UTexas fanatics were reportedly planning to sabotage the Aggie bonfire by crashing a flying model into the stack to start the fire prematurely.
The dangerous stunt was canceled when the stack collapsed on its own, killing 12 people.

Have to agree, these cases do have a strong smell of entrapment. In all of them, the suspects were pretty obviously intent on committing murder, but without the FBI supplying them with fake weapons and encouraging them to continue, how far would their plans have gotten?

Ah, you're correct....
How Much Damage Could A C-4 Loaded Model Airplane Really Do?

The planes Ferdaus was allegedly trying to use were an F-4 Phantom and an F-86 Sabre, according to the FBI affidavit (photos here). They are described as smaller scale versions of U.S. military fighter jets that range from 60 to 80 inches in length and have a wingspan range of 44 to 63 inches.

Still, not a very good plot as far as plots go.

Eh, I think the line is sufficiently blurry that you can consider an ideology to be a hateful, dangerous one. I don't see a reason to give an ideology a pass if its entire point is to foster hatred, division, sedition, and egg on violence.

After all, that's what Conservative cult ideology is, and there's no way I'm giving that a pass.

Muslim meets reality, settles suit

A Muslim attorney has voluntarily dismissed his $10-million defamation of character lawsuit against a former Muslim's lawyer and an anti-sharia blogger.
....
In fact, the only thing Geller had to do in the settlement was remove five specific blog entries out of dozens that criticized Tarazi's handling of Bary's juvenile court proceedings. She sees the course of the case as a huge victory for the First Amendment and the anti-sharia movement in the U.S.

To follow her line of thinking (I will not even call it "logic") you have to proceed from the same kind of arguments used against Catholics at the turn of the century or Japanese-Americans at the start of WWII: that there is something innately anti-American about these people as a whole that makes them exempt from the rules that apply to the rest of us "normal" Americans.

Shit, yeah the allegations that Japanese Americans were somehow disloyal even though the 442nd Regimental Combat Team bled and fought as hard as any unit. I read a little piece on them for World War II Magazine, one of hte magazines I helped out this summer for my internship. And yeah the allegations that Catholics were somehow more loyal to Rome was a bullshit meme that had a lot of believers until Kennedy became president. It wasn't that long ago.

Or maybe that weirdo at "West's Darkest Hour." You know the one linked at Gates of Vienna -- came up during the Breivik shooting.

Yeah, maybe that. I'm pretty sure I didn't write about John Jay. Vox Day, on the other hand, used the Holocaust to prove that it would be possible to round up and deport all illegal immigrants.

A "livelihood" is a chance to work, it is not a handout, but that nuance will be lost in the winnuts' scramble to affirm the Known Truth that Obama is a wealth-redistributing socilist who wants every freeloader to know that there is a handout waiting for them at the end of the Welfare line...

I believe that's the legal definition of Marxism. I learned it last semester in the Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies.

IS there anything an Obama adviser or Obama could say that wouldn't outrage these d-bags? I don't think it's a bad statement at all. I guess they want her to declare feudalism back in style, I dunno. I can totally see these people crying about the GI Bill after WWII though.

The short answer is no.

Remember, the cult is angry because Democrats exist. They don't actually want anything specific, no matter how much they bleat about taxes or whatnot. None of their 'complaints' make any sense, given that taxes are in fact lower, guns are untouched, and so on. What they want is to be angry - it is the point of their faith. The whole idea is not to achieve a goal, it is to hate - hate liberals, hate Democrats, hate foreigners, hate them.

I agree. Seems like nothing Obama and his team can do will please them. They're consumed with hatred for all things liberal. It's pathetic.

Actually, they are ironically very happy. They want to hate. That's why they continue to plug into their cult media - the emotional manipulation is the appeal. It's at once sad and disgusting - an all-pervasive media cult has taken hold in America, and profits and gains power by provoking gullible Americans into hating their relatives and neighbours. It's appalling.

I don't know. I think their talking heads Limbaugh, Hannity, etc are happy because the more angry nutters out there, the more listeners and readers they get it. The listener though is being taken for a ride by those guys as they claim to be like him even though Rush Limbaugh and the others I mention have more money and homes and they'll ever will. It's a faux populism at its best or worst depending on how you look at it.

You realize that there must be some sort of alien presence behind this that feeds on hatred. It would explain so much, and also provide such a convenient excuse...

Somebody help me, is there a MineCraft addiction support network out there somewhere? My base castle keeps getting larger and larger, my decorative fountains more elaborate, my wheat, sugarcane, and tree farms bigger. If it wasn't for the constant search for and lack of coal I would have terraformed my entire world into lighted terraced gardens and fountains already.

They had me hooked the minute I could stand above the clouds on my central watchtower and see all of my domain at a glance...I even renamed my world Alexander as in...

I think I need some help here. :(

I just checked out the website of Pamela Geller associate John Jay this morning, and he's openly advocating the murder of public officials, journalists, and Muslims in general. I wonder what the result would be if the FBI set the same kind of trap for someone like this?

Apparently no trap is needed. Yet, they aren't acting on it it seems. smh
