Snarky Puppy Feat. Knower & Jeff Coffin, “I Remember”

Taking funk to the next level

We’re going to take a music break a little early today because I just discovered the latest upload from Snarky Puppy’s new album Family Dinner - Volume Two, and it’s so insanely great I simply have to post it now. The bass line in this tune is freakishly awesome. Not to mention the killer sax solo by Jeff Coffin and the slammin’ vocal by Knower’s Genevieve Artadi. This band just knocks me out.

Question for the registered lizard army: I’m working on a feature that will send you a notification email when someone posts a private comment addressed to you. Would you rather I make this feature “opt-in” (in other words, turned OFF by default and you have to enable it in Account Settings) or “opt-out” (turned ON by default and you have to disable it in Account Settings if you don’t want it)?

I’m leaning toward opt-out, because otherwise a lot of people probably will never even know the feature is there.

Less if mr klys comes in and sits down, because apparently my lap is lacking and his is much better.

Well just since I tend to pop in for a bit and then get called away elsewhere I would keep that on. On a related note, if possible I would auto receive comments in my Pages rather than have to opt in.

Back to the topic at hand, though, I also still think private messaging is something better done as true private messaging than as a hidden comment in a long comment thread. Just my opinion.

That’s right, Herman “Federal Reserve” Cain is against the supposed insiders. A caller to Cain’s radio show on the same network as Son of Erick complained about Son of Erick, and 999 implied something about Son of Erick not respecting the right of something or other, and that got Son of Erick’s dander up.

DMOTI is promoting the claim. The only “proof” anyone has offered is a supposed SAMPLE ballot that doesn’t have Drumpfskind’s name on it.

Somehow the masses missed the word “SAMPLE” in big letters on the paper.

The Republican Elites Have Finally Turned on the Rubes They’ve Swindled for Decades

The big yappity-yap this week has been about what Kevin D. Williamson, the stormy petrel of really bad ideas, has written in National Review, America’s most venerable journal of white supremacy, about how poor white people are worthless parasites and how the places where they live could do with a good napalming or three. I am paraphrasing. But not by much.

Forget your sanctimony about struggling Rust Belt factory towns and your conspiracy theories about the wily Orientals stealing our jobs. Forget your goddamned gypsum, and, if he has a problem with that, forget Ed Burke, too. The white American underclass is in thrall to a vicious, selfish culture whose main products are misery and used heroin needles. Donald Trump’s speeches make them feel good. So does OxyContin. What they need isn’t analgesics, literal or political. They need real opportunity, which means that they need real change, which means that they need U-Haul.

(I am unclear as to whether “Ed Burke” refers to the Irish-born political theorist, or to some bartender in West Virginia, but that’s only because I am not entirely fluent in the High Wingnut in which Williamson generally writes. My money’s on the Irishman. Also, the word “forget” is pretty plainly doing the work of a shorter, more emphatic Anglo-Saxonism here.)

“They need real opportunity, which means that they need real change, which means that they need U-Haul.”

Is it really that easy for poor people to just get up and move? Strange way to address poverty. A better way would be to provide poor people with educational opportunities and higher wages but I assume Williamson and other Conservatives wouldn’t go for that.

Arggghh. It just infuriates me that the “press” puts up with that crap. They could stand together and refuse to be treated like shit, but no—they “negotiate” for being able to talk to five people in a crowd, but only if accompanied by security—and agree to having an escort to go to the fucking bathroom.

I fear a Trump candidacy because I can’t see how he’s been so successful so far, so I don’t trust my judgement about how poorly he’d fare in the general. For that reason, I find myself preferring a divided convention nominating someone else and the resulting devastation of the GOP.

STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND WATCH THIS RIGHT NOW

“I think if you get enough people together, eventually someone’s gonna punch someone else in the face,” said another supporter whose refusal to wear a tie was but a minor offense on his rap sheet of giving millennials a bad name. “I think you’re kind of a trickle-down media whore,” he told Bee.

“So in the big bukkake of media,” Bee replied, “I’m the one at the bottom of the fuck pile?”

A Cranky One  Mar 15, 2016 • 4:50:07pm

Charles, I’d vote for opt-out.

Stopped on the way home and voted in the Illinois primary. Depressing to see the number of folks requesting Republican ballots. Decent number of folks there but it was moving fairly quickly.

OT, got a phone call today from folks claiming to be the US Treasury Dept. (gave name, badge number). Said I owed significant money for 2014 taxes and if I didn’t deal with it immediately I’d be arrested. When I got done laughing (which didn’t go over well) the threats of arrest were repeated. Informed the person I’d be ready for the arresting officers as soon as I called the police and IRS. Note that I’ve never been contacted by the IRS for any problem, so immediately the whole thing was fishy. Person said the call was being recorded and said that I should go ahead and call the police and IRS and threatened arrest yet again. I laughed and hung up.

Called the IRS/Treasury dept and got about a sentence into the explanation when I was informed it was a scam. But went on to the IRS and Treasury web sites and filed a report. Then I called the US Attorney in New York (call came from a NY area code). Person there responded that they already had a ton of complaints but I was welcome to file another.

So now the scammers are impersonating federal officers. Please warn any elderly relatives who might be too trusting; the threats of arrest might scare some folks into falling for the scam.

The Florida numbers for GOP are a bit misleading.
Broward county (North Miami/Boca Raton) has 0% reporting and like Miami-Dade, there is a very large Cuban-American population there, who have been overwhelmingly voting for Rubio in Miami (he currently has a 70,000+ vote lead)

Funny that you had someone trying to run this scam on you today, because I had just read a couple of stories about it at The Consumerist yesterday:

I fear a Trump candidacy because I can’t see how he’s been so successful so far, so I don’t trust my judgement about how poorly he’d fare in the general. For that reason, I find myself preferring a divided convention nominating someone else and the resulting devastation of the GOP.

It all depends on who they’d nominate. If you look at the stats on how satisfied GOPers would be with their second choice candidate, it’s about 65%, so other than the trumpers going nuts, I don’t think there’d be blood in the streets at the convention. Now, if they totally ignore all the voting and select a third place or lower candidate—or worse, somebody who didn’t even run in the primaries, there could be blood. Time will tell.

re: #74 A Cranky One

I’ve got a number of those calls, which is funny because I’m in the tax business. I research, read, and write about taxes daily.

This is a nasty scam in particular because the scammer hopes that the person receiving the call thinks that they’ve done something wrong and will 1) give up critical personal information that can be later used for illegal purposes; 2) give up money in order to make the issue go away.

The IRS is quite clear about this:

The IRS will never:
Call to demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill.

Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.

Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card.

Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.

Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS and asking for money, here’s what you should do:
If you don’t owe taxes, or have no reason to think that you do:
Do not give out any information. Hang up immediately.

In fact, they also suggest contacting the TIGTA, who can investigate and prosecute these scammers.

That’s the problem, one I’m sure his supporters will endlessly whine about for weeks to come, that it was only proportional to help her skate to the nomination. Rubio made the announcement shortly after losing the Republican Party primary in his home state to Donald Trump.

“While we are on the right side, this year we will not be on the winning side,” he said.

Even though this is the system in place since the 1980s, and that Bernie willingly entered the field under the rules as they were construed.

And that his strategy hasn’t given him either the delegates, votes, or states. Hillary leads in all three categories.

And that doesn’t count the superdelegates, who have overwhelmingly gone for Hillary.

According to Google, Hillary’s now more than 300 delegates ahead, and with supers, 1410 to 653. She’s accelerating away from Bernie. That’s the opposite of closing.

It will not get any closer.

Don’t worry, he’ll possibly win Illinois and Missouri by narrow margins and lose Ohio by single digits, allowing them to spend at least a few more days talking about “surprise upsets.” Just spent a few minutes reading the latest dropping from Salon, where the argument now is that if Bernie goes forward winning states, then the superdelegates should abandon Hillary because it shows that the party wants Bernie and not her. Michigan was the fluke, not the trend. For whatever reason that Michigan polls were all off, it seems that Hillary’s closing strong tonight with the races going for her in a big way.

She crushed it in Florida, and is winning decisively.

All the excuses Bernie Bros have had are disappearing.

As I said after Super Tuesday when she won decisively, and even last week, after she lost MI, she was still the presumptive nominee. Bernie’s the last one to realize it.

Hillary Clinton is headed for a knockout of Bernie Sanders tonight. She also won North Carolina, and is almost certainly going to win Ohio as well.

I don’t take any particular joy in Clinton crushing Sanders. I hope he remains a big enough influence to keep her honest.

When it comes to the hardcore BernieBros who are threatening to support Trump because they’re spoiled, ignorant children without a fucking clue to reality, however?

Fuck you guys. You’re entitled nihilists. The only difference between you and the Tea Baggers is 30 years of age and bushier beards.

Looks like Kasich’s margin will be about 200,000 votes when everything’s in. And Hillary’s margin on the D side will be something like 250,000 votes. I don’t know that there’s any way to know how much of that 200,000-vote margin on the R side came from D crossovers. re: #368 goddamnedfrank

It might be harder than you think, six of those eight primaries are closed. Sander’s has a difficult time when Independents and Republicans aren’t invited to the shindig.

Yeah, he’s had his ass paddled by Dem voters again and again. So he might win, but they will be narrow margins that will not do anything but delay the inevitable. His only hope now lies in making a case to the superdelegates that he’s the better candidate, and with losses like tonight, that’s not happening. He’s finished, it’s over, but I’m all for keeping him around if it keeps Hillary in the groove up to the convention.

Doesn’t matter anyway. Hillary won a bunch of primaries in 2008 on the way to losing the nomination.

Right, and even if Sanders does win a streak of upcoming contest the closed nature of most of them will severely limit the margins of those wins.

If you can’t win at least your home state, you have no business in the race.

Even then, Kasich may move on from today if only because he’s the least objectionable alternative. But even he has no chance to win the nomination because he’s too far behind.

AND he’s a gigantic asshole—not that that wouldn’t be a plus with the GOP.

(Oh, and have I ever mentioned, I find him incredibly objectionable.)//

HAHAHA I can’t explain how sweet this is right now;

The Republican Elites Have Finally Turned on the Rubes They’ve Swindled for Decades

This was always coming. The contempt dripping from Williamson’s writing, and from that pathetic appeal from alleged conservative “leaders” never was far from the minds of the Republican elites. They so easily distracted the “Reagan Democrats” with shiny-object social issues while shoving most of the nation’s wealth upwards that they almost can be forgiven for thinking that the tactic would work forever. I mean, it worked for George W. Bush, for god’s sake.

and this:

Conservatives to White Working Class: Drop Dead

This is absurd if you think of economic policy in pragmatic terms. But it is perfectly sensible if you think of economic policy as a moral framework built around the protection of natural economic rights. “They failed themselves,” Williamson sneers about poor whites. The marketplace hasn’t failed the white working class; the white working class has failed capitalism.

If I could just stop using “fuck” as a prefix and and suffix and what-fucking-ever it is when you drop it into a word’s middle, I might be employable as a pundit.

Titty Sprinkles.

Any talk of “momentum” after tonight for Bernie is a joke and should be regarded as such. Michigan was a fluke and the loss in Ohio has neutered any possible arguments he could have made going forward. He can’t win in the South, he can’t win consistently in the Midwest, and he’s even lost states in the Northeast. He’s losing among virtually every demographic that the DNC relies upon to put people in the White House. He brings virtually nothing to the table that Hillary doesn’t already have in spades.

The least he could at this point would be to stop the negative campaigning and fight the last few weeks with some damned dignity rather than going out as an angry old man who dragged the party down with him.

John Kasich is full o’shit.

That. Is. All.

He’s a Republican, it comes with the territory.

re: #482 The Vicious Babushka

There is no point in beating on Bernie. Hillary wants to get on the next target: CRUSH TRUMP.

Agreed, and the party’s panjandrums need to make it as clear as possible to Sandbaggers that amateur hour has been cancelled.

Chicago is a pretty diverse area. I’m wondering why it surprises that they’d vote for Hillary.

The pundits were peddling THE RAHM IS TEH POISON ENDORSEMENT THAT WILL SINK HILLARY bs this week.

re: #485 GlutenFreeJesus

Diversity is a negative indicator for Sanders. He is picking up one demographic groups, sometimes getting more foolish people in my community to go along.

We will not yield. We are not leaving.

Had a 5 yr old who talked that way, for a while.

They don’t have power anymore. the only thing that can make Sanders quit is if his supporters quit funding his campaign.

I know. I just get tired of hearing how he’s such a moderate and how he has such a mild-mannered temperament and he’s really not that bad. He’s not a moderate; he has a whiny, sarcastic snotty personality; and he really IS that bad. Not a dime’s worth of difference among Trump, Cruz and Kasich—just a matter of picking your poison.

The young berners crack me up—it’s like nobody else in the history of the world has even been young. Like they’re a totally unheard of phenomenon.

HAHAHA I can’t explain how sweet this is right now;

The Republican Elites Have Finally Turned on the Rubes They’ve Swindled for Decades

and this:

Conservatives to White Working Class: Drop Dead

If I could just stop using “fuck” as a prefix and and suffix and what-fucking-ever it is when you drop it into a word’s middle, I might be employable as a pundit.

Titty Sprinkles.

(All those test private comments I posted were only addressed to me, that’s why you couldn’t read them.)

I hadda click on every one, y’know. After about a decade of software QA, something labelled ‘testing’ provokes a Pavlovian response.

Another cool feature — speaking as someone who can’t always make it through the long threads, many thanks!
