Hey Anymouse, I know you were wondering about the origin of Pepe the Frog in the last thread, so here’s a brief history of it: Know Your Meme. I actually do remember when the original meme was popular when I lurked on a forum for guitarists. It was pretty innocuous for the most part until the alt-right co-opted it.

I found it over there. I don’t understand how Pepe the Frog as a cartoon character became a symbol of the alt-right though. The cartoon had nothing to do with that.

I think 4Chan is the common link. Like many memes, Pepe the Frog likely originated at the /b/ image board there. And since much of the alt-right comes from /pol/, it’s very likely that cross-pollination between the two boards happened.

Should just be pocket change for him, plus with his amazing business skills I’m sure he’ll be make huge profits from them in no time.

One thing I hadn’t picked up on was:

Mr. Trump bowed to his team’s entreaties, according to four people with detailed knowledge of the meeting, who described it on the condition of anonymity. It was time, he agreed, to get on track.

So basically high level operatives in the Trump campaign have started talking to the press. That usually only happens a few days before the election….having it happen 12 weeks out is just nuts.

From the article

“Efforts to bring in high-profile, experienced hands have been fruitless.”

This is one of the things I’ve read before that is really hurting the “Trump campaign”. By being well himself he hasn’t been able to get any experienced help from others in the party. That is hurting his chances at running a winning campaign.

Couldn’t have happened to a worse person. AKA you reap what you sow.

Backwoods_Sleuth  Aug 14, 2016 • 4:56:03pm

Trump is Trump, and he always has been.

I will be upfront and begin this column by stating that I am not a Donald Trump fan. When I go the polls this November, I will be voting for Hillary Clinton.

But unlike many pundits and average citizens , I have made my decision based on actually knowing Trump. I worked for him for three years in Atlantic City. From 1987 to 1990, I was senior executive at the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino. The last half of my time with Donald, I was the president and chief operating officer of the business.

snip

I assumed the Trump I knew back then had changed. Last summer changed my thinking.

The day Trump announced he was running for president — the day he declared war on all Mexican people by calling them rapists and drug dealers, and vowed to wall them out of the United States — I remember saying to myself aloud, “Oh my God, Donald Trump has not changed at all in 26 years!”

How could someone not grow as a human being over all that time?

Back then, Donald Trump’s ego was as big as it is today. He was short-tempered, he was judgmental without facts, he judged people based on their clothes or the color of their skin. His attention span was so small it was almost impossible to have a strategic conversation with him about the business. He would say something one minute and change his mind the next. He would demand something be done one way, only to criticize that directive later, never taking blame. He never said he was sorry for anything. He was crude and sexist toward women, he was a philandering fool publicly. He would humiliate his wife without a second thought.

Donald Trump was humorless, cold and selfish. He would hurt the little guy if he could see even the slightest gain for himself. He refused to pay his bills, he sued anyone who got in his way. He threatened people like myself for telling the truth.

“It looks so fake,” exclaims one woman. “It’s like some little kid dropped their toy.”

They identify the creature in the video as a Stubby squid (yeah, that’s really its name. Or, if you want to be more scientific, Rossia pacifica.) The critters, which are not true squids, are actually more closely related to cuttlefish and inhabit the north Pacific, between Japan and Southern California.

The video was shot by people aboard the E/V Nautilus, a research vessel exploring areas of the ocean off the shore of California. The team uses remotely operated vehicles to film the ocean floor.

From sdit.org (Sons and Daughters in Touch - an organisation for Gold Star Children from the Vietnam War):

In 2004, United States Army Captain Humayan Khan was killed by a suicide bomber when he rushed forward to protect his soldiers and nearby civilians. As with so many families across the United States, the loss and sacrifice of the Khan family has earned them the right to ask hard questions of all those seeking elected office, whether at the local, state or national level.

As Republican, Democratic, and Independent military, veterans, family members and survivors, we ask that all candidates, at all levels, demonstrate the character demanded of the offices they seek, and respect not only those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom but also their families who have borne such a loss to protect our liberties.

Yeah, but seeing the danger at this point is like recognizing your car is heading towards a cliff after you’ve cut the brake lines. They played an obscenely reckless game by courting and cultivating a racist white uneducated base, and so I have a hard time giving them much in the way of points now. Especially when so many can see the danger but still won’t accept responsibility for creating it, and through contortionist logic attempt to foist off blame for Trump on Obama and Clinton somehow.

Heaven help us if we allow them to recoup control of the monster they created and run an equally horrible candidate like Paul Ryan who looks so good simply by comparison to Trump’s unprofessional buffoonery that nobody looks too closely at how self centered, mean spirited and regressive his policies really are.

SEATTLE (AP) — Prosecutors describe Roman Seleznev, the son of a Russian lawmaker, as a master hacker who orchestrated an international scheme that resulted in about $170 million in fraudulent credit card purchases.

In a federal jury trial that begins this week, they plan to lay out evidence that they say will prove Seleznev hacked into U.S. businesses, mostly pizza restaurants in Washington state, and stole credit card information. They claim he made millions by selling that data on underground internet forums.

snip

Seleznev was indicted on 29 felony charges in 2011, but a month later, Seleznev suffered a brain injury in a terrorist bombing in a cafe in Morocco. He was in a coma for two weeks and underwent a series of operations, according to one of his previous lawyers.

He bears a sickle-shaped, horizontal scar on the side of his head that is visible when his hair is cut short. He speaks little English and participates in court hearings with the help of a Russian interpreter.

His father, Valery Seleznev, is a member of the Russian Parliament.

Federal prosecutors have called Roman Seleznev a “leader in the marketplace for stolen credit card numbers,” and they said he collected millions of dollars selling that data to his co-conspirators. They added 11 new counts to his indictment in October 2014, including wire and bank fraud, hacking and identity theft.

I’d put Ledecky in that category too, especially with how there’s reports of how she “breaks” male swimmers who try to keep up with her split times.

She broke her own world record by seconds. She’s taken 10 seconds off the 800 from the prior record holder. She’s doing the same at the 1500 too.

And the 400.

Ledecky is amazing. But it’s her first Olympic Games, Bolt is in his third and Phelps in his fourth. She absolutely has a chance to do what they’ve done, but it is too soon to say she will. That’s what is really amazing about Bolt and Phelps, they’ve done this all over the course of a decade and a half

He isn’t disappointing in that regard. He’s a steady performer. At least once every week he’s going and posting some white supremacist or anti-Semitic meme.

This is who he is and this is who he’s pandering to - white supremacists and bigots.

Working theory: Trump actually hasn’t seen any classified briefings at all because he’s too busy watching cable news and trolling Twitter to find whatever slight piques his fancy so he can bitch and complain about it to his top advisers. His avarice and childish behavior may actually be good for the nation at the moment. Trying to find a silver lining.

It’s a swarm that left an overcrowded hive. It’s a very common event to find swarms hanging out in odd places while scouts are out looking for a new place for the swarm to establish a new hive.

It’s was actually just a swarm of bees, following a new queen. They hadn’t started building a hive yet. Which was good because it allowed a local beekeeper (who is also a Navy veteran as per long-standing and proper DoD preference) to collect the bees, including the queen, with a special vacuum system. So don’t worry, the bees didn’t get The Dalek Treatment.

Usain Bolt is flat out incredible. He just won his semifinal heat in the 100m, and I’m not sure he was even trying the last 30 meters

I found that winning 400m run by the South African Wayne van Niekerk a pretty big story.

Not only did he flat out run away from everyone for the win, he broke ex-USA great Micheal Johnson’s 20(?) year old record by a few seconds.

Add to it, he runs for a 74 year-old White South African coach and his mother was most likely Olympic material but couldn’t compete due to apartheid rules.

I did chicken and ribs yesterday and after the way the chicken came out I don’t think I’ll be doing it any other way ever again. I brined 10lbs of leg quarters in a mix of kosher salt, light brown sugar and water and the juiciness/flavor after smoking for 4 hours was amazing.
