Excellent news, and we can now look forward to a massive freakout from the Trump-thing. Read this ruling — it’s a total, scathing repudiation of the government’s case.

Right now, they’re not officially keeping anyone out, though they are making it hard in some cases, like the Canadian woman. Speaking of which, I need to download those Muslim prayers.

Then we’d see the first of multiple lawsuits filed against Jefferson Beauregard Sessions and the DOJ.

It’s now clear there was a missed opportunity by the Trump Bozos. What they should have done is fake-challenged the ban somewhere in the US where appeals are heard by a more conservative appellate court than the 9th circuit (i.e., any of the others. Real lawyers would know which is the most RWNJ of the appeals courts). That would most likely have given them a favorable appellate ruling on this issue.

There’s an old legal joke that runs like this: If the facts are on your side, argue the facts. If the law is on your side, argue the law. If neither are on your side, pound the table.

The Trump administration legal strategy is very efficient. Their starting point is pounding the table. That dispenses with that tedious business of figuring out the facts of your case and how the law applies to them.

If Trump tries this, he will have majority support from Republicans.

There is a time coming where Republicans in Congress are going to have to make a choice, where Trump will overstep his bounds so far (for example, totally ignoring Supreme Court rulings against him) that they will not be able to sit idly by. Question is, will they actually take that last step over the line into abject fascism, or will they take a stand?

Trump, pro se, before SCOTUS. That’s a truly beautiful thought.

Those who are on social media should get that idea into Twitter where it will be seen by Trump, along with the required explanation (for Trump) that pro se means acting as your own lawyer in legal proceedings.

Since Trump thinks he’s smarter than everyone else on the planet, he’d jump at the chance if he was ever made aware of it.

When the justices ask Trump for his legal standing for bringing the case before them, I fully expect that his response of “Because my word is law and it is to be obeyed without question” wouldn’t sit well with any of them.

Donald Trump’s Meeting With Airline CEOs Has Me Convinced I’m Going to Die in a Plane Crash

“Delta’s doing well.” POTUS quipped to Bastian when he introduced himself.

“We’ll make it number one,” POTUS joked to the head of LAX, who said her airport was the seventh largest airport in the world.

Upon being informed that the Atlanta airport is the largest, POTUS remarked that he loves the state of Georgia.

Southwest spoke first and said the top priority for helping airlines would be to “modernize the air traffic control system” noting that money spent on the system has not helped improve it in the past.

“I hear we’re spending billions and billions of dollars, it’s a system that’s totally out of whack.” POTUS said of the air traffic control system.

POTUS inquired as to why airline corporations had allowed the government to invest in a faulty system. Southwest informed POTUS that the airlines are not “in control” of those decisions.

POTUS said that the system could potentially work better if FAA was run by a pilot because it is not currently, as a meeting attendee confirmed for him.

Pool ushered out at 10:07 am.

It is a little soon from a tactical PoV, better to let the gun-church networks, outlaw cops, NRA members, sovereign sheriffs, and militia kooks stew a little and suffer a few more outrages before instigating a big confrontation.
Trump isn’t much of a tactician though, so it could be now. Be cautiously prepared.

“I’m thrilled to welcome the leaders of the airline industry to the White House.”

POTUS congratulated airlines at succeeding “despite the bad equipment that the airport gives you, in many cases”

“I have a pilot who’s a real expert,” POTUS said, noting that his pilot has said airlines are often provided with “the wrong stuff.”

“Let’s order the right equipment. Probably the wrong equipment cost more.” POTUS said.

“We want the traveling public to have the greatest customer service and with an absolute minimum of delays.”

“We spent six trillion dollars in the Middle East, we got nothing.” POTUS continued.
“And we have an obsolete plane system, we have obsolete airports.

He also promised the airlines “phenomenal tax cuts”.

You’re right. I’m just glad they said it at all. I recall hearing both Spicer and Conway claim that everything the vulgar, talking yam does is legal. They seem to think that he has unlimited power because he’s POTUS. re: #125 EPR-radar

If you read about Trump’s business methods, he always used the pound the table trick to try to intimidate his suppliers, governments, city codes, you name it.

He thinks his whole bag of tricks from the business world is the key to being successful as President.

Thing is, they didn’t work in business and it won’t work as President.

Summation. Pure delusion. More bankruptcy, this time of ideas.

EDIT to add. How many times has he yelled “I’ll see you in court in all his crappy business years? So, what does he do as a response for the District Court…yell see you in court. His one and only trick.

The secondary Republican plan to address this problem is to say that crime rates are going up.

Accusing Republicans of extrapolating a trend from minimal data is slander. That’s much too reasonable a process for Republicans to employ.

Republicans decide what is true a priori, usually based on programming from the likes of Rush Limbaugh. Once that is done, word-stuff is spewed to support the chosen positions, with complete indifference as to whether the word-stuff is true or false or even related to reality at all.

To be fair that probably isn’t how much the insurance company actually paid, it’s the max amount that an uninsured person would have paid. Doubtful it reflects the final negotiated deal the insurance company has with the drug maker.

ESPN - Source: Real estate mogul Charles Kushner interested in purchasing Marlins

The potential sale of the Miami Marlins has a long way to go, but the name of at least one person who has been in negotiations to buy the team is sure to cause a stir.

Multiple sources with knowledge of negotiations have told ESPN that real estate mogul Charles Kushner, father-in-law of Ivanka Trump, is part of a potential purchase group. It is not known if he is the primary bidder.

His son Jared Kushner is the senior adviser to President Donald Trump.

“Under Major League Baseball rules, the Commissioner’s Office must be informed of any conversations about a potential sale,” Major League Baseball said in a statement provided to ESPN. “The Commissioner’s Office has not heard directly or indirectly of any conversation involving Charles Kushner.”

A spokesperson for Charles Kushner declined comment. Marlins president David Samson also declined comment.

Glad I’m not a Marlins fan. Man can’t we just enjoy sports ball without the Trumps and their associates ruining it? NE winning the Super Bowl is bad enough but knowing about how happy it made Trump that his pals Brady, Belichick, and Kraft won?

An easy fix would be to bar drug companies from charging more to individuals (or Medicaid) than they do for any individual insurance company. Basically if we aren’t going to negotiate collectively then everyone should benefit from the economy of scale such large corporations can bring to bear for themselves. Because statements like that only help hide the real profit margins at play, and with the ACA facing repeal insurance companies will no longer have to provide a minimum percentage of benefit in relation to premiums taken in.

I love nights like this when the best laid cable plans are thrown into chaos by breaking news. MSNBC has already dumped the Chris Hayes Chicago violence “town hall” (you just know that is going to be GREAT, right?) and Van Jones contrived “Messy Truth” show on CNN (with guest messy truther Bill Maher) have already been scrapped.

CNN is planning to premiere their heavily hyped History of Comedy series in an hour…we’ll see if “the most trusted name in news” goes with that.

Roberts is a strong believer in the independence of the Courts and as Chief Justice and thus head of the nation’s judicial branch he has to be deeply pissed off by Trump’s attacks. Lower court ruling is upheld.

re: #287 goddamnedfrank

Already answered but I wanted to say I doubt that happens. Roberts is a strong believer in the independence of the Courts and as Chief Justice and thus head of the nation’s judicial branch he has to be deeply pissed off by Trump’s attacks. I also doubt Kennedy would go along with Trump on this but IMHO Roberts has the most reason to be personally and institutionally offended.

Good point about Roberts. I see Roberts as a tool who will do just as much as he possibly can for the RWNJ agenda without completely destroying SCOTUS’ reputation. Kicking Trump’s ass in court would be an easy and entertaining way to help the court’s reputation.

Since it seems to bother Trump so much, having a comedy act where Trump, Spicer, Bannon, Pence et al. are all played by women would be a very good thing.

In the spirit of Hamilton, with a cast as female and LGBTQ as possible.

Edit: I also support the notion of Trump appearing Pro Se before the SC. I used to say “Pro Se” was Latin for “Dismiss Me!” in the Bankruptcy world. Let’s televise it and donate the proceeds to the ACLU!

I think if the Supremes decide the case before a ninth judge is confirmed, the decision would be either 6-2 or 7-1 in favor of upholding the 9th Circuit decision. Roberts and Kennedy would likely go along with the majority, and I think the odds of Thomas concurring would be 50-50. Alito of course would be 100% in favor of whatever the shitgibbon wants.

I have confidence that Supreme Court justices (except for Thomas) would all be happy to make things very, very clear for Trump if he wasted their time with bafflegab.

It would count as a public service if the rupture of Trump’s narcissistic bubble were to cause such a total breakdown that Trump spends the rest of his days playing with blocks and brightly colored bits of string, without ever again speaking in public, tweeting, or signing documents.

I have a hard time believing that *any* SCOTUS justice would yield the power of their branch of government.

Alito for sure would do just that, and there are plenty more like him appointed to the judiciary by the Republicans. Many authoritarians see that shit as actually being good.

I’ve actually encountered Keane sober numerous times, so I had to use “again”

I think the last times I talked to him, I was in Hungary, and we had just finished a short exercise, was kind of a big deal, US Ambassador was there (with his kid, who followed us around while we tore up the room that had been set aside for their lunch as we took the table to use as stretchers) He had come over to our gathered company command team and was giving out his USAREUR CG coin, and stopped and said he didn’t know if he should give me one since I was smoking. I told him I was pretty sure I would survive not getting one. My battalion commander almost choked hold back a laugh

Trump administration caught in yet another lie.

National security adviser Michael Flynn privately discussed U.S. sanctions against Russia with that country’s ambassador to the United States during the month before President Trump took office, contrary to public assertions by Trump officials, current and former U.S. officials said.

Flynn’s communications with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak were interpreted by some senior U.S. officials as an inappropriate and potentially illegal signal to the Kremlin that it could expect a reprieve from sanctions that were being imposed by the Obama administration in late December to punish Russia for its alleged interference in the 2016 election.

This is definitely going to be the most flagrantly corrupt, nakedly criminal Executive Branch in modern US history.

I think the relevant time frame is all US history, unless I’m missing something spectacular in the 1800s.

Andrew Jackson comes close. His “spoils system” corruption, destruction of the US economy via abolishment of national banks, and push for the genocide of Native Americans really is a difficult one to surpass. It is still completely baffling to me how he is held in high regard.

“Unarmed fight or brawl” is disproportionately common in New York. There were 295,797 “unarmed fight or brawls” diagnoses in our national data, and 35,000 occurred in New York. That means New York accounts for more than 10% of medically documented fist fights in America.

Poor Carter and his peanut farm.

Carter went by the book when it involved conflicts of interest. The fact that he had to bail out his peanut farm to the tune of about a million dollars out of his own pocket after the blind trust that mismanaged his farm should be more than adequate proof of that.

Heck, even George W Bush was smart enough to liquidate his interests in both his oil companies as well as his ownership of the Texas Rangers baseball franchise before running for Texas Governor. It’s one of the few areas where he was above board in his dealings.

And in the mean time, make every Republican directly responsible for Trump’s policies and turn up at town halls and make it crystal clear that Trump’s (their) agenda is unAmerican and unacceptable.

They’re fearless as long as we’re blaming Trump. They’re just as responsible, blame them and get them a little scared and they’ll likely back off of rubber stamping Trump once their sense of self-preservation kicks in.

If and when Cornyn or Cruz are in the area, I will attempt to attend their town hall. I was trying to think of what kinds of questions to ask, but this gives me some good ideas.

And Steinbrenner only bought the Yankees because a purchase of his hometown Cleveland Indians fell through at the very last minute.

Doing some more study and so far it looks like the main way to qualify as a MLB owner is to be approved by the other 30 owners and the recommendation of the league commissioner.

So, if you are already a member of the rich and powerful club and not in jail and have good lawyers I am thinking you can be in as an owner.

And I just read if you like to rock the boat too much, like Mark Cuban, owner of the NBA Dallas Mavs, you can be looked at as not good material for ownership.

Private Club rules I’d say.

I’ve had froglegs once - wasn’t horrid, but just didn’t stimulate my tastebuds. I’m kind of weird on my tastes, especially when it comes to seafood. Love lobster, shrimp/prawns (both fried and boiled), oysters (both raw and fried), clams and scallops, and even escargot (snails), but can’t stand crawfish, mussels or crabs. I also make it a point to have a trip to our local Japanese eatery that specializes in sashimi, which I could literally live off of if I could afford it.
