Rep. Matt Gaetz Invited Holocaust Denying White Supremacist Chuck C. Johnson (Who Is NOT ME) to the SOTU

Weird • Views: 56,145
Chuck C. Johnson, seen here stalking Rep. Maxine Waters on a plane as she slept

In the seemingly interminable Age of the Trump-Thing, Republican politicians have apparently lost all compunctions about associating with known Holocaust deniers and white supremacists, and the latest example of this ugly trend is reported by the Daily Beast: Florida (Congress)Man Invited Infamous Troll Chuck Johnson to Trump’s State of The Union.

Gaetz said that he and Johnson did not discuss the Nunes memo and didn’t interact much at the event at all. Asked if he planned to stay in touch, Gaetz replied: “He has my number.”

Johnson offered a different explanation of how the evening came together. Initially, he said he and Gaetz were introduced by another member of Congress, whom he declined to name. In a separate conversation with The Daily Beast, however, Johnson said that he was invited by several members of Congress but “took Gaetz’s invitation” as “he’s into stuff on the issues that I care about.”

Asked about Gaetz’s differing account, Johnson said, “I’ll go with whatever version Gaetz says because I’m not a gangster rapper.”

The issues that drew him to the congressman, Johnson said, included “weed and bitcoin and Trump and animal welfare.” He said he also likes Gaetz because he has “that fuck you mindset.”

For some reason, Daily Beast reporters Lachlan Markay and Gideon Resnick refrain from pointing out Johnson’s white supremacism or his Holocaust denial, or the fact that he identified himself as a “fascist” in a recent “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit.

UPDATE at 1/31/18 5:22:35 pm by Charles Johnson

From Politico, we learn that the Capitol Police have Chuck C. Johnson’s name on a list, and flagged him when they learned Gaetz had invited him.

“I had no idea who he was,” Gaetz said Wednesday, disavowing some of the racist views attributed to Johnson, which the congressman said he learned of after they met earlier this week.

But even after Gaetz found out just how controversial Johnson was — the Capitol Police had flagged the name and called Gaetz to inquire about Johnson in a mysterious unrelated matter — the first-term congressman decided not to pull his ticket to President Trump’s speech.

Johnson is probably on the Capitol Police’s watch list because in 2015 he stalked GOP Speaker John Boehner and tried to crash one of his fundraisers, but was detained, questioned and thrown out.

Nice stenography. No further explanation by the reporters of what other issues Chuck is into.

Something something another one bites the dust….

RS: Trey Gowdy Announces His Retirement

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) announced his retirement from Congress shortly after some of his Republican colleagues were in a train wreck involving a garbage truck.

The South Carolina Republican abruptly announced Wednesday he will not seek re-election in November but will instead return to the justice system.

“Whatever skills I may have are better utilized in a courtroom than in Congress, and I enjoy our justice system more than our political system,” Gowdy said. “As I look back on my career, it is the jobs that both seek and reward fairness that are most rewarding.”

The 53-year-old Gowdy, a former district attorney and federal prosector, has represented South Carolina’s 4th congressional district since 2011, when he was elected as part of the Tea Party wave.

Fifteen-time LGPA winner Suzann Pettersen has played golf with Donald Trump. Pettersen has a few things to say about his penchant for being full of shit. In an interview with Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang Pettersen shared all kinds of amazing thoughts on the times she has played golf with the bigliest person ever in the history of history.

“He cheats like hell … so I don’t quite know how he is in business. They say that if you cheat at golf, you cheat at business. I’m pretty sure he pays his caddy well, since no matter how far into the woods he hits the ball, it’s in the middle of the fairway when we get there,” says Pettersen, laughing heartily in the half-full restaurant.

And his point is valid - “Not trump” isn’t good enough. A low-info, apathetic voter will reply, “Yeah, he’s an asshole, but things aren’t that bad so why bother to vote?” This is where you have to go beyond “not trump” and give that person something to vote FOR.

Edited to add: She was so special. Never hurt a thing. She would chase vehicles, birds in the air, airplanes, and she was fast. Always as alert as you see in the photo. Never a lap dog. Would rarely come to us, especially if we wanted her. Her first family, who gave her up, could stop by and she would be all over them, making sweet noises in her throat and laying on her back in front of them. That behavior even worked for extended members of their family. So she tolerated us, hated being in the house until she got quite old, and then was happy to be in and live on the couch.

The strategy that works is the one that worked in Alabama:

Pour everything you’ve got into getting PoCs to the polls. Black women, especially, but depending on the state, Hispanics, Asians, what have you.

They get it. They know what two more years of Republicans in Congress and four more years of Trump in the WH will mean. And they don’t have the luxury of taking a privileged “both parties are the same, so why bother” approach.

Give them policies that will benefit them, as the Democratic platform generally does, and candidates who don’t overlook them (dammit, Bernie), and if they turn out in sufficient numbers, they - and all of us, together - win.

Some of this will have to be looked at locally. A lot of whites in conservative states decided that standing up for DACA rather than keeping the government open was a bad thing. They may not want to deport Dreamers, but it better not inconvenience them.

IIRC, though, wasn’t both Doug Jones performance and the elections in VA outside the range of registered voters polling?

Yeah Northam and Gillespie was expected to be neck and neck. And trust me, no one here really thought we’d get that close to taking back the House of Delegates. I think your summary on DACA is unfortunately correct. A lot of more moderate whites may support DACA in principle but as you got at it, they saw the shutdown over it as a bad thing. NOw that sucks but I think these voters can be reached if we explain to them why we need DACA.

VA definitely was, though I’m not sure about Doug Jones (I think his final win was within the polling margin of error).

As for the generic ballot numbers that Jake Tapper posted, I notice the extremely favorable numbers for the Dems in December coincided with the #GOPTaxScam passage and all the bad PR surrounding it. Now that GOPers have had a chance to rebut those points somewhat, their numbers have improved, so it’s imperative to resurrect that narrative at every opportunity, especially when real-world events occur to show how bad and dangerous that bill is (e.g. ads about tax bonuses going to rich shareholders while ordinary workers get pink slips).

Another effective ad would be showing the initial “bonus” check for a worker being literally eaten away by all the other expenses they face (e.g. rising health insurance premiums due to ACA gutting, etc)

with deference to everyone who’s already commented on this
yes, the trend is shrinking from where it was
and there were many polls over 10+ and some at 15+

2 points now cited is a single monmouth poll - the trend down is to more like +6-7

it doesnt mean anybody did or didnt do anything specific

it may not have anything to do with messaging - certainly in the last 30 days

OK, so did you hear the one about the Devin Nunes staffer who was once (in 2016) given a “U R TOO STUPID 2 LAWYER” badge to sew into his underwear by a US district court judge? It’s more properly called an “order of ineptitude,” it’s rarely given out, and yet it was bestowed upon Kash Patel, the lawyer/staffer who headed up the team that wrote Devin Nunes’s Very Dumb Bullshit Memo. Sounds like Mr. Patel found the right congressman to work for!

The American people don’t know what they want. The reason is too many don’t know how government operates and what is dangerous or good.

And as stated before…we have a representative government. It is representative of our overall ignorance and those that vote jumping around to try to find something they don’t seem to have a clue what it is they need.

I think there are a lot of people who want vastly different things. We see on issues like immigration. Those of us in states most effected by immigration (port and border states, with large cities) tend to want more immigration. Those furthest away from immigration tend to want less immigration.

My gut says that on most issues there’s 40-50% that want one thing, probably 35-45% that want something else, and then a middle group of 5-30% that is somewhere in between. That is a problem when our system of government is designed to generate consensus on issues as much as possible.

what has gone wrong is reconciling the bold - both by government (congress and the prez) and the parties / people in general

both (or three) points of view used to be valid. then there used to be a negotiation, an eventual coming together and agreeing on a “common good”

one side wont play by those rules any more so politics is no longer a clash of value systems, each of which is in some way valid - a competition between basically well-intentioned people who see the world differently

it has become, not even a conflict of interests, but instead a degenerative, struggle for power in which ONE side with righteous indignation believes only the other is and can be capable of behaving despicably

Trump officials considered contentious method to ‘reverse’ undocumented teen’s abortion

An anti-abortion activist who was appointed by Donald Trump to head a federal agency that detains undocumented immigrant children considered using a highly contentious and untested technique to stop a teenager from completing an abortion that was already in process, it has emerged.

Scott Lloyd, the Trump administration’s pick as director of the Office of Refugee Resettlement, raised the prospect last March of administering the hormone progesterone to a 17-year-old girl from El Salvador who had entered the US illegally and was being held in custody in San Antonio, Texas. The procedure is unrecognized by the medical profession as a means of reversing abortion and has side-effects attached to it.

Lloyd’s plan to apply the controversial hormone method, first reported by Vice News, was revealed in court documents disclosed in an ACLU lawsuit that seeks to stop the Trump administration from blocking access to abortions by female immigrants in the ORR’s care. Since Lloyd took over the agency last year, it has been accused by civil rights groups of effectively holding girls hostage in an attempt to negate their constitutional right to terminate their pregnancies.

Typically, “London broil” is made from skirt steak, but the name refers to how the dish is made (which isn’t from London or anywhere else in Great Britain at all, but from here in the good ol’ US of A).

Okay, according to Wikipedia, progesterone can be used as a medication for pregnancy support, basically to prevent “preterm birth in women at risk for preterm birth.” Not a doctor, but maybe it could be used to stop the body from expelling the dead fetus — but it’s still a dead fetus. And if the abortion has already taken place, it ain’t going to put the dead fetus back into the woman.

If you’re trying to create an authoritarian “managed democracy” kleptocracy, it’s probably a stupid idea to go to war with your entire domestic security and intelligence apparatus. But what do I know.

I’ve thought about that seeming inconsistency. They can only believe that they have a replacement in the wings, a combination of party vigilantes, church militia, local and state law enforcement, and private contractors. This substitution is necessary because of the way conservative voters tend to see the Federal security apparatus. To them, it is the muscle behind gun laws, civil rights, and environmental regulation: that is, all the things they hate.

Another reason for destroying Federal law enforcement: It is the only entity that reasonably presents a threat to the system of Russian subversion and influence in this country. I believe that this extends far beyond the Trump campaign. It is well documented that this influence campaign predates Trump’s declaration of his candidacy by years. There is good evidence that it extends to the state and local level politically, and into the most minor media.

That’s exactly right. Mueller’s got more questions and Flynn’s got more explaining to do to give Flynn his best chance at getting a favorable plea deal.

How favorable depends on what he tells Mueller and where it leads (further indictments, plea deals with people who turn states’ evidence, etc.)

Personally, I suspect he is effectively keeping Flynn on speed-dial, calling him up anytime he has new evidence to sit Flynn down with and get answers. The understanding being that the moment he charges Flynn and accepts the plea deal, the cooperation and stream of testimony will stop. So while they may have agreed to a deal in principle, Flynn is kept advised that the moment he stops being of use to Mueller, the deal dissolves and he gets indicted.

Even lower hanging fruit: multiple violations of 18 USC 1001 - lying on his SF-86 security clearance applications. Each time he submitted the form and omitted the fateful Russia meeting from June 2016, he was lying/omitting in violation of federal law.

That’s up to 5 years in Club Fed for each violation.

Then he’d be able to share another experience with his dad - being convicted felons.

I disagree. Look at the mental state of thousands of ISIS who willingly strap on bombs including women and children to self destruct in order to take down one soldier. Then there were the Kamikaze pilots who thought it an honor to commit suicide in a plane for their emperor. “They got nothin’. Pathetic.”

Fox News has to do the analysis of the number of times PBO used the “I” word vs. Trump, first, because as you note, ‘they got nothing,” and because the numbers are in: fewer Americans watched the Yam’s first SOTU speech than did PBO’s. Also, the fact that the Yam left a bunch of topics out of his SOTU speech that presidents on both sides of the aisle usually include is being publicly noted. Plus, the racism and bigotry in the Yam’s speech [Thanks, Stephen Miller] is being mentioned and called out by heavy-hitters like Paul Krugman.

“Steve Jobs had an especially grim form of cancer, and the fact that he spent months trying diet cures etc. surely didn’t help.”

Changing his diet didn’t help my oldest brother, either. He died from stomach cancer in 2015. He had been complaining of stomach pains for more than a year, but his concerns were dismissed by numerous doctors, some of whom ordered the wrong kind of tests. He found out he had Stage 4 cancer of the stomach less than a year before he died. I’m still grieving over his loss, and the loss of a brother in 2011, and another brother in 2014. Life is precious and loved ones should be cherished.

I’m on the Andrew Johnson administration in Ron Chernow’s Grant biography and I have to say there are a number of similarities between Johnson and Trump. Johnson got on the Lincoln ticket because he seemed like an anti-plantation Democrat. Once the war was over he wanted nothing more than to snuggle up to the planter class just as Trump seeks acceptance by NYC and Wall St.’s top echelon (though formerly denouncing them). And when southern whites massacred blacks Johnson blamed the freedmen, the victims. Johnson went on a self-aggrandizing tour supposedly to take part in honoring Stephen Douglas in Chicago but instead used it to campaign. And when people booed him saying he lacked dignity he threw it right back: “I have no truck with dignity!” (probably drunk, too). But there were dynamics at play to impeach Johnson. Trump—well, we know that’s not likely.

I need to take a second look at US history in the post civil-war era, since I’ve realized that my high school US history for that era was heavily slanted with lost cause propaganda (in NJ(!)).

I was thinking about that Coralllo - Hope Hicks thing, and I remembered this bit from a story about how Ivanka and Junior narrowly avoided being indicted for fraud.

In one e-mail, according to four people who have seen it, the Trumps discussed how to coördinate false information they had given to prospective buyers. In another, according to a person who read the e-mails, they worried that a reporter might be on to them. In yet another, Donald, Jr., spoke reassuringly to a broker who was concerned about the false statements, saying that nobody would ever find out, because only people on the e-mail chain or in the Trump Organization knew about the deception, according to a person who saw the e-mail.

They’re making the same mistake all over again. Dopes.
