Rudy Giuliani “Resigns” From His Mortified Law Firm

Politics • Views: 37,277

It’s almost comical how every single person who gets close to Donald Trump ends up destroying any reputation they might have had.

“We cannot speak for Mr. Giuliani with respect to what was intended by his remarks,” said a spokeswoman, Jill Perry. “Speaking for ourselves, we would not condone payments of the nature alleged to have been made or otherwise without the knowledge and direction of a client.”

The number of non-resignation resignations caused by the Trump Horror is unprecedented.

You mean you can actually destroy your reputation that is already in the dumpster and smelling like three day old fish left out in the hot sun?

How low can you go???

“Speaking for ourselves, we would not condone payments of the nature alleged to have been made or otherwise without the knowledge and direction of a client.”

Not said but clearly implied and heard by every lawyer everywhere: because it would result in all of us losing our licenses, and facing significant liability for breach of fiduciary duty.

The Senate is about to confirm Trump’s SIXTEENTH appeals court judge: Kurt Engelhardt, another staunch conservative, to the 5th Circuit.

Reshaping the courts will probably be Trump’s biggest legacy

this is undoubtedly true
still, i found some comfort in this article on electoral-vote yesterday
blue slip rule is dead

One area in which Trump has been very successful is appointing conservative judges, especially to the appeals courts. He has already gotten 15 of his nominations through the Senate, with more to come. Majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has said he will keep the Senate in session after the election to approve more judges as a hedge against Democrats taking control of the upper chamber and blocking Trump’s appointments starting in January.

Of course, what is happening here is that Trump and his party are putting short term gain ahead of long-term pain. It is true that the conservatives Trump appoints will linger for a long time; three or four (or even five) decades in some cases (the most senior judge currently serving, Manuel Real, was appointed by LBJ in 1966). However, it is also the case that federal judges retire at the rate of about 45 per year. In recent years, Republican presidents have tended to favor fire-breathing conservatives (think: Neil Gorsuch), while Democrats have tended to favor moderate choices more likely to make it through the process (think: Merrick Garland). Not universally true, but generally true.

What this means is that the GOP doesn’t have as much space to move the judiciary rightward as the Democrats have to move it leftward. And perhaps as soon as 2020, the Democrats could have the trifecta the Republicans currently enjoy. When that comes to pass, get ready for a stream of young, left-leaning judges—30 or 40 or 50 a year—so pinko that they make Lenin look like Ronald Reagan. We shall see how, for example, Alabamians feel when key judicial matters are being decided by a 35-year-old black lesbian atheist from San Francisco

Their article presupposes the idea that there is ‘less room’ to move right because many judges so far have been relatively centrist, like there’s some limit on how far right there can be. But there isn’t any such limit.

I think the Cohen quotes that work best are…

In a Fox News interview last year, Mr. Cohen declared: “I will do anything to protect Mr. Trump.” He told Vanity Fair in September that “I’m the guy who would take a bullet for the president,” adding, “I’d never walk away.”

Sounds like a guy that would have let Trumpy know what was going on but act like he never told him.

But Conner eventually learns her lesson after she actually gets to know her neighbors personally.

“She wanted to get a comeuppance for her own bias,” Dave Caplan, the show’s co-executive producer, says in a video teasing the episode.

“Once she gets to know them, she realizes there are probably more similarities than differences,” he said.

Caplan says the episode was Barr’s idea, and that the show’s writers were onboard almost immediately after she pitched it.

Barr, meanwhile, says she thought it’d be “really relevant” to do a show about “immigrants and prejudice.”

And again, I have to explain the difference between “Christians” and “Christian organisations.”

I have not complained individual or groups of Christians don’t hold Fundamentalist churches to account.

I have complained that church organisations don’t do it. No church organisation, such as the United Methodists, the Episcopal Church, the Roman Catholic Church, &c ever calls out grifters or hate monger churches.

It is nice Sojourners Magazine is organizing this event. They are not a church.

Will they listen to what an actress has to say, though? They also listen to FOX.

Hard to say. But there’s a far greater change of it getting through if it gets slipped in this way.

I have no illusions about some of my neighbors. But I also know that plenty of them will be far more receptive to an older white comedienne acting like them than a younger white guy who gives off liberal vibes.

I wanted to check in and say hello to everyone. I haven’t been able to even read much online, much less be able to like anyone’s comments or try to write anything myself. I’m so far behind on the political news department that I know that I’ll never catch up.
My sister in law died three weeks ago of pancreatic cancer. Less than three months passed between the diagnosis to burial. We are left with dealing with a hoarders home. Between the horror at the swiftness of the deterioration factor, to the inevitable sorrow and grief, and now all the physical work we’re putting in to cleaning out a possession filled to the brim house, and a new puppy in the house, I’m in exhaustion mode.
Oh, a new puppy I said?

I don’t want to sound like OMG I’M COLORBLIND or I DON’T SEE COLOR but I genuinely do try to treat everyone fairly regardless of their skin color or background. If you have an accent, I’m if anything going to be curious where you’re from. I had to be a witness to a will signing recently by one of our other partners. The lady and her parents had Spanish accents but were more European looking so I was curious where she was from, Argentina. Ended up having a good talk about Argentine steaks but she said she was a vegetarian ironically enough. I really do like meeting people from places I’ve only ever read about. You don’t need to be quote colorblind, you just need to treat people good.

Barr’s most prominent professional gig currently is as a judge on NBC’s hit-show, Last Comic Standing. During her TV appearances she exhibits none of the mercurial behavior and scatological insults that grace her Twitter feed. She apparently understands quite well where boundaries are in her public persona. But when it comes to social media, she flings off the mask and exposes her hateful, misanthropic personality.

As Whitey McWhiteguy, I have no direct experience, but I suspect that POCs may find people who claim not to see color, or who are ‘the least racist person you’ll ever meet’ may be more problematic than outright honest racists. This is why I implored people that liked Roseanne the first time around to push through the pre-relaunch “OMFG THE CONNORS ARE TRUMP VOTERS!!!11TY” hype; the show has traditionally done social commentary very well and that seems to be holding up for the continuation.

The social commentary being offered is coming from an incredibly privileged point of view which presents the cohesiveness of white families as sacrosanct and far more important than combatting the real harm being inflicted by the State (on behalf of revanchist whites) upon minority communities. The victims are on display as abstract elements designed to humanize their real life abusers, and that is fucking disgusting.

I remember a discussion about this from years ago, between a white guy and an Asian woman, both friends of mine. His position was that, as someone from NYC, it’s common to ask people where their family is from, or what their background, and people shouldn’t get offended by it. Her position was that it implied non-American-ness.

Mind you, she was Japanese American, and of an age that her parents might have been interned, if they were here then. That might color (again, haha) her thinking, given that we as a country basically TOLD THEM they were less American because of their origin.

re: #136 JordanRules

Walmart is a multi-national business that has almost 7,000 stores outside the US. My guess is that this acquisition was going to happen regardless of the tax cut. The tax cut just made it easier.

I’m also not fundamentally opposed to multi-national businesses pursuing business opportunities outside the US.

The problem seems to be that blanket tax cuts don’t actually lead businesses to reinvest in the US. This is probably especially true in retail, where brick and mortar stores are losing ground to digital shopping (Amazon is doing to Walmart what Walmart did to the “mom n pop” shops), and the smart investments for retailers is to shift to online markets in the US (I recently noticed when going to the store that they had signs up about shopping online with delivery in less than two hours).

Tying tax breaks to hiring and increased wages for non-exempt (hourly) employees might cause these businesses to actually create jobs. Then again, if AI is 10-15 years away from taking more than half the jobs in America, this is all a moot point, because we are going to have to figure out what a post labor economy looks like.

We learned long ago to temper our expressions of enthusiasm for TV shows. Invariably leads to cancellation.

That’s so funny because I just caught on to this show and now it’s gone.

Pleasantville 1950s, The Courtship of Eddie’s Father 1950s, My Three Sons 1950s… those 1950s. Which are totally different from what you read about in history books where firehoses and police dogs were being turned loose on peaceful protesters.

And when black athletes celebrated for their accomplishments on the field or court were not welcome in the neighborhoods of the cities they played and lived in.

Mrs. FBW and I paid zero attention to The Americans until they had already filmed the last season, at which point we binge-watched the first 5 seasons in an orgy of staying up late and sleeping poorly with weird dreams about betrayal and such. This may be the only thing that allowed the show to go all the way to 6 seasons.

I mean to an extent I get why people nostagize and romanticize the past of their childhoods because we all do that but when we ignore the realities of the past, that’s when it becomes problematic and dangerous.

Seriously, though - I think as far as most of the not-overtly-racist Right are concerned, the Civil Rights Movement as a legitimate entity started with Rosa Parks and ended when the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act passed, at which point blacks had achieved complete equality with whites in America. And everything after that was just trying to take more than their fair share.

And boy, do I wish I were exaggerating.

Why is anyone still working for this jackass?

“….One person familiar with Mr. Trump’s blowup at the meeting said it was triggered by a discussion about why Mexico was not doing more to prevent illegal border crossings into the United States. Another person said the president was primarily focused on the Homeland Security Department because he views Ms. Nielsen as primarily responsible for keeping illegal immigrants out of the country.

During the meeting, Mr. Trump yelled about the fact that the United States has a porous border and said that more needs to be done to fix that. When members of his cabinet pointed out that the country relies on day laborers who cross the border each day, Mr. Trump said that was fine, but continued to complain, one person said.”

I’ve sparingly caught Brooklyn 99, looked good but just wasn’t all that into it. I gave the Last Man on Earth a shot, but gave up after the first season. Never saw the Mick.

I’m more curious as to whether they’re going to bring back Lucifer.

Also, there’s rumors that Fox may make a bid for WWE, with Monday Night Raw being on the broadcast network, so that’s 2 hours of programming that could get cut just to make room.

According to wikipedia, viewership has dropped from 18m the first couple episodes to about 10m the last few episodes. Brooklyn 9-9 and Last Man on Earth have both been under 2m pretty much all season.

Step back for a second and look closely at the candidates trump has nominated for the Federal Judiciary. Most are refugees from the swamp trump is claiming to drain. Most of the nominees have the same shady background as many of trump’s appointments. It won’t take long for many of these “Judges” to shit in their Federal Courtrooms and become candidates for impeachment and removal. It’s just a fact that anyone trump appoints for any position has no ethics or honesty.

They may be judges now and for a few more years, but many will not finish a life-time appointment.
