Video: An Illuminating Deep Dive Into the Past, Present, and Future of Qanon, a Conspiracy That Is Very Dumb

WTF • Views: 47,836

YouTube

In today’s episode, we do a deep dive on the latest crazy conspiracy phenom, Qanon, also known as “The Storm,” also known as “Pizzagate 2,” also know as “that batshit, nonsense thing you may have heard about from one of your high school friends on Facebook.” Yes, the conspiracy theory that proposes that God-King, Donald Trump, was elected president to stop a villainous cabal made up of Hillary Clinton, The Deep State, The Democrats, and anyone who makes fun of Trump, whose purpose is global domination and child smuggling. Also? UGH.

Correction: The Seattle plane thief was not Q fan. Sorry for any confusion.

I strongly agree with this piece from GQ. It’s saying the low attendance at that white nationalist thing in D.C. doesn’t mean jack.

The power of bigotry isn’t measured by Unite the Right attendance.

re: #5 Scout

Two parts:

1) the goddamned Nazis are cowards and thrive on bullying and forcing others to accept them. When they get pushback, they get driven into the shadows. A majority of Americans don’t believe the goddamned Nazis and white nationalists have any role to play in society other than a cautionary tale of what not to do.

2) the goddamned Nazis thrive in the shadows because they can push their agenda without anyone realizing what’s going on. They benefited from Trump’s white nationalist agenda being pushed forward (immigration, civil/voting rights - via his judicial picks) but Trump equating the goddamned Nazis with the people protesting them made it explicit (as if everything else wasn’t sufficient) that Trump’s a white nationalist pursuing a white nationalist agenda.

The GOP is overrun with these fuckers because the bigot brigade that forms the base of the GOP has been weaponized by Fox and GOP liars who make these people think that they’d do better if they deprive others of their rights and liberties.

Meanwhile, immigrants with advanced degrees are doing the jobs that these high school dropouts can’t even dream of getting.

Far too many of these white nationalists are home schooled, indoctrinated in the hate from an early age, and live a sheltered life away from any contact with people who aren’t like them.

Far too many of them are actually in states farthest from the border.

Far too many of them exist - and there’s no easy answer on how to deprogram these racists.

But I have an idea - a truth and reconciliation commission that deals with the Civil War and once again reiterates that the Civil War was the war for southern insurrection to protect their right to own slaves.

I just don’t get it. I know there are people like Trump out there, but really, isn’t life easier, safer, and just generally more pleasant when you recognize that all people have innate worth, there is dignity in all work, and everyone should have access to the necessities of life-and maybe a few of the little extravagances as well? Why humiliate people, or take food from their kids’ mouths? Treat people well and they won’t be storming the gates of your compound with torches and pitchforks.

My Aunt died this morning. She was 78 and in bad shape for the last 6 months. She had dementia. It was a miracle that she was able to visit my Mom in March. They haven’t seen each other in nearly 10 years. Even then, we could see the signs of decline. My Mom won’t be able to attend her service, so I am thankful for that visit.

Yay, I’m back from my board meeting. The budget didn’t actually take up the most time; standing up the required boards we did not have (a planning commission and a health board) did.

We now have a village marshal. Don’t screw up in our town now or we can throw you in the single cell in the village hall (though I have one of the keys to the cell, I will have to turn it over to the new marshal). The marshal and a health professional are required positions for a health board (the VA nurse who just moved in next door to me was volunteer-drafted for the job).

Metal straws are dangerous. What if someone runs into me while I’m using it and I get it caught in my throat? It’s the irresponsible people who throw their straws in the ocean, I throw mine in the trash. So much other pollution, why worry about straws?

One of the candidates for the mid-term village board election was seriously injured yesterday.

He was loading 1,500 pound round bales of hay, and one rolled off his truck and over him. His four-year-old son had to go to the next farm over and explain what had happened … that farmer got the four-year-old to take him back to his father.

He is now in hospital in Denver after being flown out; he is immobilised with a broken lower back and broken ribs and shoulders.

Stupidest Man On Internet Shitcans Stupidest White House Correspondent On Internet, For We Dunno Why (goes to Wonkette, more at the link):

Poor Lucian Wintrich, the former “White House Correspondent” for the Gateway Pundit (for like three days) is no longer with the organization, according to a very vaguely-worded tweet by Jim Hoft, the Stupidest Man on the Internet. It’s not yet clear when or why Wintrich left, although Jared Holt of Right Wing Watch was happy to suggest maybe it had something to do with his reporting on Wintrich’s hanging out with a white nationalist dude and spouting racist pseudoscience on the radio. Of course, that would imply either Hoft or Wintrich is capable of feeling ashamed of that stuff.

Christ. We’re going to Vegas in the weeks. It’s currently 100 degrees. Right now. It’ll be 100+ for the next 10 days.

This is going to suck. I’m bummed.

Bring a sweater. They keep the indoors so chilly that it’s a relief to go outdoors (if you don’t have to stay there too long). Also the humidity is so low that weather around 95 is comfortable if you’re not in direct sunlight.

re: #104 Anymouse 🌹

One of the candidates for the mid-term village board election was seriously injured yesterday.

He was loading 1,500 pound round bales of hay, and one rolled off his truck and over him. His four-year-old son had to go to the next farm over and explain what had happened … that farmer got the four-year-old to take him back to his father.

He is now in hospital in Denver after being flown out; he is immobilised with a broken lower back and broken ribs and shoulders.

Sorry to hear that.

[In Haines AK everyone has medical evacuation insurance since there’s no hospital nearby — do people in your town do the same? (Curious because I just saw the bill for my own ambulance transportation to a hospital within the same town — my insurance paid almost all of it, and a good thing, too. I don’t want to think about the cost of medical evacuation.)]

Except there’s people that metal straws are a bad choice for a variety of reasons (and inconvenient as hell for everyone), paper straws may be better, but they’re not commonly available.

And, at least as I see it, it’s environmentalist performance art a sign saying “Look how much we care about the environment” over a selection of equally non-degradable lids, knives, and sporks.

Here in Juneau there are 3 Air Med-Evac companies serving SE Alaska. I listen to the FD scanner and there are at least 4-5 med evacuations each day. They head to Anchorage or Seattle depending on the treatment needed.

Something happened in London, but as of yet, it’s not entirely clear what:

A number of people have been injured after a car crashed into security barriers outside the Houses of Parliament, Scotland Yard say.

Armed police, ambulances and firefighters are responding to the incident in central London, which happened shortly after 07:30 BST.

Officers were seen surrounding the vehicle before a man was arrested.

Reports say cyclists were hit but police do not believe anybody is in a life-threatening condition.

Scotland Yard cannot say if the incident is related to terrorism at this stage but a number of eye witnesses have said the car appeared to deliberately hit members of the public.

Westminster tube station is closed and streets around Millbank, Parliament Square and Victoria Tower Gardens have been cordoned off.

Morning, errybody…

We went to Bruges yesterday. Beautiful town. We met an expat from Connecticut in a pub called The Monk who often hung out in the East Village, it turns out we knew a bunch of the same people.

After talking to him for about a half hour, he practically had us talked into moving here.

We’re staying local today, going to the Museum of Musical Instruments. And tomorrow - Amsterdam! w00t!

(Funny story - we stopped at a currency exchange when we got to Bruges, and my wife asked what the exchange rate was. The clerk said the rate wasn’t great across Europe and added ‘I don’t think it’s all due to Trump…’

To which my wife replied ‘No, it is all due to Trump.’ And we all laughed and laughed, then took our money.)

Could be…..one of the comments I saw on an Italian website, from a resident of Genoa, translates to “What the fuck when the transportation ministry says: “…it was already known that it had some structural problems”. At this point, they should make estimates about when it will collapse and not when maintenance will be performed. So now you know why I always avoid taking that highway.”

There’s quite a few a comments from other Genoese noting that the bridge has been considered structurally unsound for quite some time, at least a decade or so.

Heh. Back around, oh, 1988? I found an IBM XT in a pawn shop. 640 kb ram, Herc Graphics, 1 5.25” diskette & a 10 MB 5.25 FULL HEIGHT :) boat anchor of a hard drive. I used to run the original version of Minix on it but since the 8088 doesn’t have any kind of memory protection, I could sometimes have one process start from the bottom of the memory and grow up while another started at the top and grew down. If you weren’t careful the two processes would eventually try to overwrite each other. This always caused a spectacular hang and would always make a hash of the rather simplistic Unix Filesystem. I learned how to fix it in time but mostly I’d just sigh, grab the floppies and reinstall them.

Now this is a unique “defense” of Manafort.

9:30 a.m.: Defense argues bank would have approved Manafort loans regardless of misinformation in loan applications

Before Paul Manafort’s defense mounts its case and offers evidence, Judge T.S. Ellis III must decide on something called a Rule 29 motion or a “motion for a judgment of acquittal.” And in a filing late Monday, the defense argued that at least one bank would have approved Manafort for loans no matter what information he entered in his loan applications.

It doesn’t matter if he committed fraud because some bank somewhere would have approved the loan whether he lied or not.

Wow.

You know what I find egregiously awful in this whole Manafort trial? The bankers who were all like “Ok, that’s cool” and because of immunity won’t go to jail and are still employed.

The prosecution didn’t call “please make me a Secretary” Calk to the stand in the Manafort trial which makes me wonder how and where he is going to be used.

And according to a local Genoese commenter:

…to make it short this bridge was very important because it served as a link between the various parts of the city otherwise separate from the mountains, and was used every day by those who went to work or for the transport of goods.

The fact that it has collapsed is a problem both for ordinary traffic and for the economy since the transport of goods for now must be diverted on to less suitable roads, with consequent slowdowns and various problems.

I simplified it a lot, but it’s a very serious situation.

Looking at video, that’s gonna be a mess to clean up. The rest of the bridge will almost certainly have to be demolished and a replacement built and that’s gonna cost a bundle.

here, the insurance (Air Evac Lifeteam) is about $85/year for the entire family. There are significant discounts if you choose multi-year premiums. MrBWS’s helicopter cost about $70,000 to go about 70 miles from one hospital to another.

Those things are dangerous. I was helping unload some once, and one rolled on me and knocked me off the hay trailer. Was lucky. Could have been killed, but got off with soft tissue damage.

Interesting analogy. Likewise, what if a CEO routinely made false and misleading statements about himself, the company, and results, and publicly attacked business partners, company “divisions” (w/ scare quotes!), employees, and analysts, and kowtowed to a dangerous competitor?

I bet George’s lovely bullshitter of a wife could give him a good answer.

James Carville and Mary Matalin. Married since 1993.

And when checking when they were married I saw this at Carville’s Wiki page.

Personal life
Carville is married to Republican-turned-Libertarian political consultant Mary Matalin, who had worked for George H. W. Bush on his 1992 presidential reelection campaign. Carville and Matalin were married in New Orleans in October 1993. They have two daughters: Matalin Mary “Matty” Carville and Emerson Normand “Emma” Carville.

In 2008, Carville and Matalin relocated their family from Virginia to New Orleans.[27] In January of 2017 he joined the faculty of Louisiana State University’s Manship School of Mass Communication.

So. we have another Libertarian. Went and checked her Wiki and this is what it said:

On May 5, 2016, Matalin announced she has changed her party registration to Libertarian.[3]

Of course his backers will back him…but he still causes a few conservatives every day to abandon him and hopefully the entire Republican party.

Every tweet may cost the Republicans another vote. And for a congressional district like Ohio D12 that may turn the vote in November.

And, I think they are still counting the absentee and provisional ballots. Everyone seems to think O’Connor will not have enough to pull a win, but maybe get a vote recount.

“I would like to apologize to my family and my supporters for this situation,” her statement reads. “It was not my intent to deceive or mislead anyone. I made a mistake in saying that I completed my degree.”

“What I did was wrong and set a bad example for someone seeking public service. I am staying in the race and intend to win and lead by example from now on,” Howard added.

Her statement follows reports from local media that revealed the GOP candidate had lied about obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Miami University in Ohio, even going as far as to fake a diploma from the school.

Of course it wasn’t her intent to deceive or mislead anyone when she provided a photograph of herself, her mother and a FAKE DIPLOMA…

Others with more specific knowledge about the NDAs and how you can/can’t have one with the US government will weigh in, but they’re now claiming that she has an NDA with the campaign?

Okay. Let’s go with that argument.

She’s an employee of the US government, as such, any NDA with the campaign doesn’t affect her ability to speak about her process/time as a US employee.

Where there is overlap, guess what - her employment as a US employee means she’s free to talk.

So disgusting: @NRA is suing Seattle over a law that requires residents to secure their guns or face up to $10,000 in fines.

Safely securing firearms prevents unintentional guns discharges, suicides, gun theft. NRA is literally suing to ensure gun owners can act irresponsibly

I really hate him

Appearing on the Brian Thomas Morning Show on 55KRC, Bevin said it’s difficult to stabilize the pension system when those affected by the pension overhaul bill he signed into law earlier this year are fighting him.

“I’m being fought, in some instances, by the very people that we’re trying to save,” he said. “It’s like saving a drowning victim. It’s like somebody … they’re fighting you, fighting you and pulling you under. You just need to knock ‘em out and drag ‘em to shore. It’s for their own good, and we have to save this system.”

Thomas responded: “It’s tough medicine, but to save the system, tough medicine has to be swallowed or it will be that much worse.”

ABC News - Omarosa claims ex-Trump aides’ silence costs $15,000. Here’s what campaign records show

Campaign finance records show several former aides to President Donald Trump have received payments of roughly $15,000 per month from campaign or party accounts, bolstering part of former aide Omarosa Manigault Newman’s claim that she was offered the same amount to keep quiet about her time in the White House.

The Apprentice contestant turned White House aide Manigault Newman has alleged that multiple former Trump Administration aides have been taking money for their silence since leaving their posts, a hush money payment under the guise of a no-show job that she says she turned down.

“They were not offering me a real job,” Manigault Newman told NBC on Sunday. “They didn’t really care if I showed up. In fact, there are several former employees from the White House who actually signed this agreement, who are all being paid $15,000 for their silence.”

Federal election filings reviewed by ABC News support her allegations that payments were made but do not indicate whether the payments were contingent on signing some kind of nondisclosure agreement.

All Trump campaign staffers were required to sign a nondisclosure agreement upon joining the campaign. After Trump took office, some White House staffers signed similar agreements, but it is unclear how enforceable such agreements would be for government employees.

A number of former Trump aides - including two who served in sensitive positions in the White House - have been paid roughly $15,000 per month by either the Trump campaign, the Republican National Committee or America First PAC, a political action committee dedicated to Trump’s re-election for various services described only briefly in filings.

Campaign or party coffers made monthly payments to former director of Oval Office operations Keith Schiller for “security services,” former personal assistant to the president John McEntee for “payroll,” former digital media director of the Trump campaign Brad Parscale for “digital consulting [and] management consulting” and former director of advertising for the Trump campaign Gary Coby for “media services [and] consulting.”

Neither the White House nor the Trump campaign has directly addressed the hush-money claim, but White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders broadly called Manigault Newman, who is currently promoting her forthcoming book, a disgruntled ex-employee who was spreading “lies and false accusations.”

One of Sanders’ predecessors behind the podium, however, did address the accusations and was similarly forceful in his denial. Manigault Newman alleged that Trump’s former press secretary Sean Spicer signed a non-disclosure agreement similar to the one she was offered, which Manigault Newman says would have prohibited her from making any comments that could damage the president.

“Which is why Sean Spicer described Donald Trump as a unicorn jumping over rainbows,” Manigault Newman told NBC News. “It’s because he signed this same agreement.”

From Betty Cracker:

I didn’t start this tradition of responding to Trump as if he’s a random demented asshole who wandered into a commercial establishment to harangue cashiers with unhinged rants, but I think everyone should respond in a similar way from now on.

And I mean everyone. Next time Trump calls Prime Minister Shinzō Abe at 3 o’clock in the morning because he, Trump, doesn’t understand time zones, Abe should say, “That’s an, um, interesting theory on bilateral trade, sir, but this is the 24-hour State Farm customer service help line. Do you need to upgrade your vehicle insurance?”

When he calls Theresa May at midnight, she should say, “This is British Airways. How may I help you?” Ditto Macron, except change the company to Air France. Justin Trudeau could impersonate Bank of Nova Scotia, and so on.

That motherfucker has been gaslighting the entire planet for a year and change. We should gaslight him right back. If we all stuck together, he’d crack inside a week…

NBC News has found that the theory can be traced back to three people who sparked some of the first conversation about Qanon and, in doing so, attracted followers who they then asked to help fund Qanon “research.”

That’s not the normal amount of vapor used when getting a nicotine fix in the photo. That’s a modder trying to hurt themselves so they can look like a dragon.

Vaping a mix of hash oil and propylene glycol gives me a nasty cough. Vaping hash oil alone does not, but requires a higher temperature.

There’s no one bigger in the world of shooting game Fortnite than Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, who makes more than $500,000 each month playing the mega-popular battle royale game online.

That’s coke-dealer money for playing a video game.

Blevins doesn’t “play with girls” out of concern for his marriage, he told gaming site Polygon. If he played with a woman on his team, Blevins explained, fans would spread rumors that he was having an affair with the woman.

This blockhead makes $500K / month to play video games!

I know it’s been said before, but the lack of consistency in these Trump staffers’ statements shows there is no one in charge there. A tightly run ship would get everyone either to shut up completely or stick to the same story. Since Trump himself can do neither, his habits of speaking before thinking and changing his stories have percolated down to the lowest levels. Our current WH is a ship with no captain, first officer, helmsman or navigator — just a bunch of sailors trying to keep the ship afloat long enough to jump ship.

The original Wendy’s was on East Broad Street in downtown Columbus. I think it opened in 1969. I started at Columbus College of Art & Design in 1972. Our apartment/dorms were about three blocks away. If I remember at that time a single was $0.69 and a double was $0.99. Fries were $.49 and a medium drink was $0.49.

Yeah…we pigged out big time. Starving artists and all.

$2.00 to $3.00 bucks and you were good to go. I’m not sure, but I think that same single today is 10 times as much.

I knew people back then that dipped their fries in their Frosty. You are not alone.

My father never met a stranger, and he was an usher manager at the U of I while I was in high school and college. Back then, stars hired to perform at the U of I Assembly Hall, they would often stroll around the track at the big football games. The crowd would cheer, and the star would wave and shake hands all the way around. Pop really admired Ernie Ford, and when TEF was the scheduled performer, he walked right up to him, strolled around the track with him, chatting, and then went back up to wherever the stars went to view the game, and chatted with him for quite a while beyond that.

He was really chuffed.

I served as an usher under him, and got to see Bill Cosby (in his prime), Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass (great show), and so on. Shows I could not have afforded. Also got to see all the home basketball and football games. Good times.

In 1979, my then-girlfriend took me to the recently-opened one in our college town. It was okay. Different. Those square burgers…..

Later, while working at two different companies in South City, I ate countless lunches from the Wendy’s/Starbucks/Gas station. I always used the drive-thru, which I used to call Wendy’s Telepathic Drive-thru, because you’d swear there wasn’t enough time for them to put your order together in just the time it took to drive around the corner from the ordering box to the pickup window.

In all that time, probably hundreds of orders, they got it wrong ONCE - no salad dressing.

Wendy’s was always pretty well run.

The absolute best location in on Route 161.East Dublin Granville Road and Route 33. It’s just across the road from their headquarters. You can be sure it will be done right there.

Just don’t go at lunch time…the place is packed.

The burgers were square so the edges stuck out of the buns. It made them look big and you could see the quality beef with no fillings.

Anyone ever have a Whalburger???

Mark Whalberg is looking to open one or two here in Columbus.

For some reason Mark Wahlberg has taken an interest in doing business in Columbus. He just took over a Chevy dealership out on West Broad Street now called Whalberg Chevrolet.

He has also expressed interest in looking to buy into The Columbus Crew SC and maybe help keep the team (or a new franchise) in Columbus. A newish owner is trying to take them to Austin Texas but seems to be having some issues getting what he wants from their city council.

‘Fortnite’ Star Tyler Blevins ‘Won’t Play With Girls’ (TheDailyBeast)

That’s coke-dealer money for playing a video game.

This blockhead makes $500K / month to play video games!

And by the way, that gamer in question does play games with women, he has videos of it on his channel, so either he lied to Daily Beast or DB represented him.

There is a whole gaming community where people play (something like a baseball game with pro athletes) and spectators (who donate money to the gamers, partly because some gaming platforms aren’t free, and neither is setting up the equipment for streaming).

That said, Tyler Blevins is one of those gamers … other gamers have given him tens of thousands of dollars in single donations.

One YouTube gamer named Mr. Beast went around giving money away to random waitresses, and random women podcasters, saying they needed to be appreciated (even when he didn’t speak the podcaster’s language) … or random homeless people.

He does the money giveaways as entertainment for his audience, who then give him more money.

For example, a video of him giving money to random female podcasters because “women need to be appreciated”:
