there’s really only two ways to deal with judicial ethics:
1. make disclosures mandatory and include criminal penalties
2. use the impeachment power
Vigorous use of the checks and balances, in other words.

Ditto with Biden. But it has to be remembered that the mainstream media is all-in on creating a horse race for the election, so they are spreading narratives like “Biden is too old” and “let’s suggest the Democrats do something stupid.”
I cannot find any Ashli Babbitt pistol targets for sale. This probably just shows that Democrats are not savages, since plenty of them do own guns (contrary to fascist propaganda).

It seems to me that there has been a tremendous amount of social and cultural changes since the US stopped being a rural nation.
A lot of folks harsh on Obama for not being progressive enough.
But it seems to me that he had two important tasks. First to successfully lead our country. But second, also to destroy the argument that an Afro-American man could not be a national leader.
And I think that he successfully accomplished both for the majority of the US population. And still managed to make some excellent progress on good governance.
I think that Kamala Harris is facing an even more daunting challenge. There is no nationally agreed upon US template for the idea of a successful female National leader. I think that she is up to that tremendous challenge.
And I hope to give her the opportunity.
But we are in a diverse coalition. Others may have concerns, whether founded or unfounded. It seems to me that it is best to offer solid and convincing arguments for our position.

Another factor to consider is whether those so-called “concerns” are coming from a place of classic ignorance (e.g. the typical low-info voter who simply doesn’t know) vs willful ignorance/bad faith (concern trolls, bots, etc).
If the former, Rachel Bitecofer has the best advice:
Bitecofer’s most basic point is simple: Democrats as a whole — despite their “reality-based” self-image — have been unable or unwilling “to accept that the American voter is, at best, rough clay,” and to work with it accordingly. On the other hand, she writes, “Republicans have long understood this and have built an electioneering system that shapes the electorate and meets voters where they actually are.” The point of “Hit ‘Em Where It Hurts” is to convince Democrats to change their strategic approach while there’s still time to rescue democracy, and to focus relentlessly on the threat posed by Republicans in terms that hit voters where they are.

True, what they are the heirs of is mudslinging.
In the 1796 election, the Democratic-Republicans accused Federalist John Adams’ “running mate” Thomas Pickney of going to England to procure two mistresses, one for himself and one for Adams. Adams was supposed to have replied, “if he got two, he kept them both for himself”. They left that out of Hamilton.
In the 1828 election, the Adams faction of the Democratic-Republicans went after Andrew Jackson’s wife Rachel. They claimed that Rachel was already married (there were timing issues with her divorce) when she wed Andrew. She died before he was inaugurated and he blamed the Adamsites. He was wife-boated so to speak.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) — The owner of a San Jose small business says she’s taken a big hit after Tesla placed an order worth thousands of dollars, then canceled unexpectedly.
The Giving Pies is a beloved business in San Jose’s Willow Glen neighborhood, but it’s not just local residents in love with the pies - they’ve also caught the attention of Silicon Valley’s biggest corporations.
”We work with Google, Apple, Adobe, Intuit - all of them,” said owner Voahangy Rasetarinera.
Rasetarinera said Tesla reached out to her on Valentine’s Day to place an order of 2,000 mini pies to be delivered the following Tuesday and Thursday which is short notice for the business.
Full story here
TL;DR - Someone in Elmo-land ordered several thousand mini pies from this lady and she went ahead and made them WITHOUT HAVING BEEN PAID.
Seems like House of Musk was media shamed into contacting the owner again, but they still haven’t paid up:
ABC7 News reached out to Tesla and did not hear back, but while at The Giving Pies doing a late afternoon interview, someone with Tesla finally reached out to her.
”Explaining to me what happened that it was miscommunication that the employee, Laura, had no authority to promise any payment,” Rasetarinera said.
They offered to find a way to still buy pies from her, something she said she may consider but for now is hesitant to commit to.
Keep it classy, Elon.

TIL that the Countess of Castiglione (1837-1899) was very involved in early experimental photography.
She was apparently also an effective diplomat. She is thought to have successfully influenced Napoleon III to support the Unification of Italy. And to have dissuaded Otto von Bismarck from occupying Paris after the Franco-German War.
She was certainly a great early communicator using the new medium of photography.
She was involved in a child custody dispute with her husband and successfully resolved it through photography.
Her husband threatened to take their child Giorgio. She responded with this single photograph. After this, her husband ceased to protest. (True story)

Now that I think about it, I don’t think I got a cellphone until I got a blackberry, and it was incredibly cool because you could do this thing where email could be pushed to the phone. That is my thought too. He witnessed a lot of battles and a lot of progressive wins. Things change, hopefully for the better, and there are many more battles to fight and win.
What was progressive in 1780 was not in 1865. Nor that in 1865 progressive in 1925. Nor in turn that in 1945. And what was progressive in 1945 is often considered reactionary in 2024.
At 70 I have seen a lot of change. Some of it occasionally seems a bit unexpected and occasionally a bit of a risk. But in general I find it very positive. And as an aging boomer, it is time to let younger generations define the world that they will live in for more decades than I.
My parents’ generation faced two world wars, and a near complete economic disaster. They nearly saw a third nuclear world war. I was fortunate to grow up in a better world because of what they did, to try and improve the world at substantial sacrifice in lives, time and wealth.
My biggest hope is to allow the next generation the chance to improve the world without the sacrifice my parents had to make.

“We are prepared to make sure that the judgment is paid to New Yorkers, and yes, I look at 40 Wall Street each and every day,” James said, referring to the Trump Building in Manhattan.
“Knowing Donald as I do, here’s why I know this statement will make push him closer to the edge.”
“First, James implies that there’s a possibility Donald does not have enough cash to satisfy the judgment; that alone is enough to enrage him… Donald is obsessed with his net worth and he goes to great lengths to convince people he is enormously wealthy. It’s a significant part of his identity.”
“The urgency with which he clings to the the false idea that he is richer, more successful, and more talented than he is serves to hide the truth - not just from us, but from himself - that he is, quite simply, a loser.”

GLSDBs have entered the chat. Slava Ukraini…first tests are close enough to get drone covereage. We don’t know how far back from the front the GLSDB was launched, but this looks like a fairly accurate hit.

CBS faces uproar after seizing investigative journalist’s files
This paragraph caught my attention:
Is it going to turn out she was working with Russia to be such an investigative reporter? She worked for Fox for a long time. Did the FBI request that hold her material? I guess we will find out soon.
She has always been a dirtball—from 2020
It’s distressing when a mainstream media outlet is so anxious to make nice with conservatives that they hire someone like Catherine Herridge, whose career is filled with misinformation work. But that’s what CBS did, despite the reporter’s long and shameful history of acting more as a Republican partisan than a straight news reporter.
Back in January 2016, she reported what she thought was a big Fox News scoop: No fewer than 150 FBI agents were investigating Hillary Clinton’s emails and the private server she used while serving as secretary of state. The number, as part of Herridge’s exclusive report based on anonymous sources, was shocking. If the FBI had assigned 150 agents to fan out across the country and were treating the Clinton email case as one of the most pressing crime probes in the country, akin to a terrorist attack investigation, then of course Fox News’ favorite controversy at the time must represent a truly blockbuster scandal, right? I mean, 150 agents. It turns out Herridge was off by roughly 140 agents.
Herridge also volunteered her duties to the GOP during the 2016 campaign to spread misinformation about the Clinton emails and the Clinton Foundation. That year, Herridge reported an “exclusive” on the known hacker Marcel Lehel Lazar (aka “Guccifer”), bragging about how he “easily — and repeatedly — breached former Secretary Of State Hillary Clinton’s personal email server.” But as the FBI confirmed, the whole Herridge story was based on a lie

re: #139 Nerdy Fish

The lander autonomously recycles the communications after 15 minutes if there has not been a full return of signal.

They can confirm it is on the moon and at least partially active.
There it is. There’s the applause. They made it.
Now they just need to get more than just a faint signal. May just need to find ways to refine communications.
re: #148 silverdolphin

Most likely an antenna is not in the position they expected, and they need to figure out where the antenna is and tell the lander to reorient it to point more directly at the Earthside transceiver.

With some comms and telemetry on the lander’s attitude, etc. they will have a lot more information to work with and I think a lot more options on things to adjust to improve things.
Note to The Hill: there is no “Biden corruption scandal.”

It’s funny—I sit on Earth, and occasionally think “How can you miss something the size of a planet?”
But then when I overlay the distances traveled in space, the speeds of the objects being intercepted, and that a planet or moon is just a speck of dust in space, it’s like “Oh…right. There’s a reason why ‘rocket scientist’ is a synonym for genius.”
One reason this is such a big deal is that Intuitive machines uses 3D printing, like making the combustion chamber of its rockets. So it can make a new engine every 5 days. we could see a real lunar economy very quickly if they show success.

But it’s not what the Democrats will do that will be the problem— it’s what the MSM has done and is doing. It was Comey and the MSM that did Hillary in — and they are repeating the same behavior with Hur playing the Comey role.

The fact that these guys can predict, within seconds and meters, when and where their little flying tin boxes will land on a heavenly body that is hundreds of thousands or even millions of miles away is mind-boggling. Mrs. Fish was telling me I should apply to work for NASA, and I was just like, “Look, I’m good at what I do, but those guys are so far out of my league I would need a telescope just to look at them.”

Herridge has obviously cut her hair to disguise her true identity:
boston butt, 3 lbs., that I rib rubbed and then roasted in the oven covered for about 2 1/2 hours at 275. That was unbelievably yummy. and I don’t eat that much which means there’s enough left to keep me in business for a week. I might even have to thin-slice some of it and make a sandwich or two out of it as the week goes by.

It may well turn out that some reporters, such as Catherine Herridge, are Russian assets. (I would not be surprised to find out that the temproary retention of her materials - they say they are now willing to turn them over - was to allow the FBI to have a look). If so, we then see that much of the MSM are just useful idiots for the Russians.

And when the Russians murder Smirnov the Republicans will build up a conspiracy that has Biden ordering him murdered. I still wonder at the ability of the Republicans to scream “SOCIALIST!” and “COMMUNIST!” at Democrats while blocking aid to Ukraine and coddling up to Russian Dictator Putin for support in overthrowing our Democracy and replacing it with their Christian Nationalism.
You would think that this would be big news but nope. It must be Biden’s age that has the press distracted, right?
