Palestinians Booby Trap Zoo, Blame Israel

Video • Views: 5,430

Hamas is trying to wring some sympathy out of the world’s animal lovers, with a propaganda video accusing the Israelis of targeting the Gaza Zoo for a heinous massacre:

Youtube Video

It might be more believable if the IDF hadn’t already taken their own video, showing the same zoo wired up with explosives by Hamas:

UPDATE at 1/26/09 7:18:57 pm:

Here’s a look at what life was like for animals in the Gaza Zoo under Hamas’ tender loving care:

Obama is a fool if he thinks that going on Al Arabiya is going to get him a straight audience with the Arab World. This video shows that Arabs are regularly fed hate filled propaganda by their "news" outlets and that is unlikely to change.

What's really heartbreaking to think about is that the Israelis foiled the original plot to blow up the zoo. After the Israelis left they blew it up and shot the animals anyways. The IDF did a very good job about releasing these videos but they really should have released much more.

39 Sharmuta  Mon, Jan 26, 2009 7:27:02pm

These people don't care about the animals anymore than they care about their own people. I would think their economy couldn't handle supporting a zoo. Why do they even have a zoo- other than allowing Nahoul to treat the animals cruelly?

These poor creatures should be taken to real zoos in a developed country.

52 NJDhockeyfan  Mon, Jan 26, 2009 7:31:52pm

BOLTON: A circular negotiations game?

Iran's nuclear weapons program will necessarily be high on the foreign-policy agenda for newly inaugurated President Obama. During the campaign, Candidate Barack Obama argued strenuously that he could do a better job negotiating with Iran than his opponents. His task now, however, is significantly complicated by the three weeks of recent fighting in the Gaza Strip, and the impending Israeli elections on Feb. 10.

Given its longstanding and extensive financial support, arms supplies and other aid for Hamas, Iran's reaction to the three-week pounding administered by Israel will be significant both for Gaza and for the larger question of Iran's hegemonic aspirations in the Middle East. In fact, during the intense fighting, many wondered why Iran seemed to confine its response to the purely rhetorical, calling for Muslims to support Hamas, assassinate various Israeli officials, and, as usual, eliminate Israel entirely.

Once the fighting stopped, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki proclaimed "the victory of the Islamic resistance and the heroic people of Gaza" against Israel. That may come as news to Hamas terrorists who remained in Gaza and survived (as opposed to many of their leaders who fled during the Israeli attack), since Israel unquestionably did major damage to Hamas' forces, weapons supplies and infrastructure.

In Iran's peculiar calculus, however, as with Hezbollah during the 2006 war with Israel, having Hamas merely survive nonetheless constitutes a victory. After all, Hamas remains viable as a terrorist threat to Israel, which has yet again withdrawn from Gaza, and in some international circles Israel has been damaged by negative reactions to its self-defense against years of terrorist rocket attacks, a perverse but tangible public-relations victory for Hamas.

They don't care about the lives of their people or animals- only death.

Ya'alon, who is eighth on Likud's Knesset list, opened the first session of the three-day Jerusalem Conference with a Zionist speech of the old-fashioned, hard-hitting kind, that outlined a new strategy for Israel: no more retreats.

“We suffer from inertia in our way of thought,” Ya'alon said. “We pretend that there is a Palestinian entity which has recognized Israel. But from the dawn of Zionism there has not been an Arab movement that was willing to recognize Israel as the sovereign state of the Jewish nation. Mahmoud Abbas said it well before Annapolis: "Why should Judaism, this religion, have a state?" But we didn't want to listen. We blur this in the political and public debate.”

Ever see the New Media Are Evil TV Trope? You gotta love this quote:

CSI New York had an episode where Reed, a blogger, tried to get Mac to give information on the Taxicab Killer. Mac refuses, so Reed proceeds to make something up. This whips up hysteria enough that three cabbies murder some random cabbie that they suspect to be the killer, except he was a cop. Considering that bloggers like Charles Johnson made their bones exposing malfeasance in old media, this is Anvilicious with a corrupt anvil.

Who can afford to live in California anymore?

Schwarzenegger Wants To Tax Golf, Auto Repairs

Golf course owners and some of their customers are teed off at California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. So are veterinarians, auto mechanics and amusement park operators.

Their anger is directed at the Republican governor's proposal to extend the state sales tax to cover more services, an idea that has surfaced in other states as they race to plug crippling budget deficits. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a research clearinghouse, predicts such deficits nationwide could reach $350 billion by 2011.

Schwarzenegger wants to help close a nearly $42 billion state budget deficit by taxing rounds of golf, auto repairs, veterinary care, amusement park and sporting event admissions and appliance and furniture repairs.

Democratic Gov. David Paterson in New York has proposed levies on MP3 downloads, taxi rides, movies, concerts, sporting events, and personal services such as haircuts, manicures and massages.

Schwarzenegger's fellow Republican in Utah, Gov. Jon Huntsman, has shelved a proposal to tax attorney and accounting services but promises to bring it back next year.

Service taxes in other states include levies on pet grooming, water well drilling, fur storage, massages, shoe repairs, swimming pool cleaning, taxidermy, and dating and diaper services. But that doesn't make the groups affected by Schwarzenegger's proposal feel any better.

Riots erupted in Bahrain on Monday following the arrest of three prominent Shiite activists. Riot police fired tear gas at knots of youths hurling stones and burning car tires in protest over the early morning arrests.
The demonstrations began in the morning soon after news filtered out over the arrest of Hasan Mushaima, head of the HAQ Movement for Liberty and Democracy; Abdul Jalil Sengace, the group's spokesman; and Sheik Mohammed Habib al-Moqdad, a cleric who has repeatedly condemned the alleged discrimination against Bahrain's majority Shiites. 166 gman  Mon, Jan 26, 2009 8:03:08pm

Surprisingly, I found coverage of the "Nahoul goes to the Zoo" video segment in the PETA archives. The comment section was quite revealing:

I really wouldn't trust "Palestinian Media Watch" - this program was probably not palestinian at all. PMW has in the past, presented Egyptian, Jordanian and Saudi programs as Palestinians, meaning they cannot be trusted. It is run by Itamar Marcus, an illegal settler who lives on stolen Palestinian land. Besides, Israel is not free from animal cruelty itself. This is pro-Israel propananda and shame on PETA for posting it. Just like poz.com posted a baseless story that Yasser Arafat died of AIDS, which was sourced from World Net Daily, and lying pro-Israel propaganda website.
It's true that Palestinians have a long way in terms of animal rights, but what is also true is that Palestinians treat animals better than Israelis treat Palestinians!
Let's be balanced here

ahhh the old "well the Israelis are even worse, so there" argument.

PETA should love this...

HB.1729

For every child, 2 years of age or younger, acquired by the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service, the parent of the child will receive either a cash payment of 2000 dollars or 3000 dollars will be deposited in a medical savings plan.
HB.1729 is designed to increase the income level of the family or single parent, which will help them to become a self-sustainable member of society, reduce our burden of over-population and break the cycle of crime that is prevalent among our low-income citizens.

This will also enable more parents to enter the job market, becoming freed from dependency on multiple government programs.

The act will not rely on taxpayers money. It will pay for itself from the sales of the food products created from the children enrolled in the program. The low cost of the food product will also benefit all Americans, as it can be used as a substitute for higher priced meats.

I heard his approvals are down 15%, he's managed to piss off all the Republicans, the entire pro-life world, families of 9/11 victims and all of us who will NEVER FORGET and NEVER FORGIVE, and directed his attention-AS POTUS toward a talk-show radio host. Plus, he gaffetastically said "I WON" in response to criticism ("I won, lalallalalaal I am 10 years old), talked about how hot his wife is..and made some pretty great f^ck ups for American national security. What a week!

At this rate, he'll have a lower approval rating than GWB ever had - after a month.

There's a variety of opinion here on that topic. I often disagree with Charles on this point. I want Islamists to post these videos on you tube. I found the vid of Hamas using children as spotters a few weeks ago. The video was titled something like "Israeli warcrimes" posted by a Hamas supporter. I also found another video labeled something like "Jewish aggression" which showed Hamas fighters using an ambulance. Unfortunately that one was too blurry to be conclusive. The MSM is not going to show us this stuff but the Islamists are more than happy to post videos of their morally repulsive behaviour and even brag about it. I say we let them.

Here we go again...

Israel mulling 1,000-for-1 prisoner exchange, open borders with Gaza as part of truce negotiations

Trading 1,000 prisoners for one soldier may seem lop-sided, but that is precisely the deal that Israel is considering, according to several published reports.

Hamas negotiator Ayman Taha said that Israel had offered the release of 1,000 Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the return of Staff Sgt. Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier captured by Palestinian militants in 2006, two Israeli newspapers, The Jerusalem Post and Haaretz, reported, attributing the quotes to an Egyptian newspaper.

Shalit, who was born in Israel and holds both French and Israeli citizenship, is believed to still be alive, and French president Nicolas Sarkozy said during a visit to Israel last week that Shalit's return is an important part of any long-term peace in the region.

In addition to the prisoner exchange, Taha said that Israel had offered to open the border crossings between Israeli and Gaza, a possibility the Jerusalem Post confirmed with Israeli defense sources on Sunday.

You don't see as many women as you do men, either, but there really is no comparison. It is troubling, because the tech field is the sector of the economy that is expanding at the greatest rate, or one of the greatest rates, in the entire economy. the rising tide may lift all boats, but there's no denying that some boats will rise farther and faster than others.

If Max ran the IDF, heres how that deal would go down: Do the trade, load the Palestinians on buses driven by Hamas drivers, hit the buses with airstrikes.

Hunker down and weather the s**tstorm afterwards.

Olbermann Suggests Gitmo Inspired Innocent Ex-Detainee to Become Al-Qaeda Leader

If we are to believe Keith Olbermann’s latest wild theory, an innocent, mild mannered furniture salesman and humanitarian from Riyadh may have been inspired to become an al-Qaeda leader because he was falsely imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay, courtesy of Olbermann’s favorite target, the Bush administration, who "created [his] reason for hating us."

Even for Keith Olbermann, this takes the cake, and makes you wonder if the rumors are true that the MSNBC host doesn’t really believe half of what he says, but only recites his rants and conspiracy theories for ratings. In light of reports that a former Guantanamo Bay detainee, Said Ali al-Shihri, who was released in 2007 and has now become an al-Qaeda leader in Yemen believed responsible for a September embassy bombing, Olbermann seemed to seriously suggest that al-Shihri may have been an innocent man when he was first jailed at Gitmo, and then became a terrorist leader as a result of his imprisonment. The Countdown host plugged the story before a commercial break: "But perhaps the real question is: Since we never tried him, never found him guilty, and the Bush administration set him free, what if he wasn’t a terrorist in the first place but we turned him into one by sending him to Gitmo?"

Actually a President can disarm America, it has been done before. Wilson is the most known, but Carter reduced our Navy Fleet by 25%. The President can also order a stand down, and redeployment, out of hand. This has been done many times. Clinton had orders not to fire back, Reagan had guards in Lebanon with empty guns, Bush , perhaps unbeknown to him, had a lawyer execute an instruction that Mosques were not to be targeted, thus letting Omar escape into one.

The United States Senate desperately needs an inspiring patriot who has demonstrated exceptional talent, leadership, intelligence and integrity. Plus, he gaffetastically said "I WON" in response to criticism ("I won, lalallalalaal I am 10 years old), talked about how hot his wife is..and made some pretty great f^ck ups for American national security. What a week!

To be fair and balanced, his approval is up a point and the second highest early poll in history. The 15 point story seems to be a apples and oranges comparison with how he handled the transition. It is early and well could drop.

Palestinians have become so ridiculous their arguments might as well be "We attack them, so then they think they have to attack us. So what we have to do to defend ourselves? Huh? They attack us in response, so we have to set booby trap in zoo. See? It all goes back to the occupation. And even if we weren't occupied, they weren't thinking about occupying us. It's the thought that counts. See?"

And the msm laps it up, of course.

Surely the dictates of Mo. come into play and the dead are treated according to his word.

Fatah rolls like this..

Three days ago, his soldiers exhumed four bodies that had been hastily buried in one of the prison basements, he says wearily. They were able to identify a fellow al-Qassam Brigades member, Nasser al-Juju. They believe he was killed shortly before he was discovered: "The others have been lying in this basement for a long time."

Hamas rolls like this..

But Khaled Abu Toameh — the brave and distinguished correspondent for The Jerusalem Post — has reported that 35 Fatah activists have been summarily executed, while more than twice that number have been shot in the legs or had their hands broken.

Mark Thompson, the Director-General of the BBC, is quite right to refuse to broadcast the appeal of the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) for humanitarian relief for Gaza, but not for the reason he thinks. He is under the impression that it will damage the BBC's reputation for impartiality in reporting the Israel-Palestine question, but the fact is that the BBC does not have any such reputation, having for years been institutionally pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli. The reason that his decision is brave and right, however, is that many of the 13 charities that make up the DEC are even more mired in anti-Israeli assumptions than the BBC itself.

re: #309 Iron Fist

I knew that they were having problems in Silly Valley, but a lot of that had to do with all of the other insane bullshit that goes along with being in Silly Valley. Where I am, things are considerably better. I'm in no danger of losing my job (unless I die, but that won't trouble me :-), and I'm making the best money that I've ever made in my life. I might could get a little more money if I shopped around, but my work environment is also about as good as I could hope to have.

There a couple of places in town that might be a little more fun (Remotech does robots for EOD and related things), but I am well satisfied where I'm at. I know I'm luckey to have the job I do, I don't doubt that.

But I'd have thought work in tech would be relatively good pretty much anywhere major in the United States. It is troubling to learn that I'm wrong about that.

Tech has always been very "age-ist", you turn 40 and half the jobs out there are closed to you. Well, maybe the bottom half, and what did you want, but even so. What hurts the most is that average salaries in the field have been going down for twenty years, and down sharply in the last ten, and down VERY sharply in the last three. Many reasons for that, H-1B workers and outsourcing being the largest, but not at all the only one.

So, it's still a relatively good way to make a living, compared to digging ditches, but it's less good from year to year, both as an industry and as the individual ages, and the combination really hurts.

Once again, I take a bit of issue over the characterization of the last film. He is not really injuring the animals involved and "hostess" of the show comes on in the last part of it to say that they are only showing this to teach people how not to behave. She then scolds the bee and tells him that his behaviour was very very wrong and he should not do it again. For once Hamas sent a good message. We here would not have done it the same way, but I agree with the message that they were trying to communicate to the kids watching.

What the hell are you talking about? What's happening in that video is obvious animal abuse. You don't swing cats around by their tails and throw rocks at lions to demonstrate how NOT to treat animals. This is "a good message?" Are you nuts?

Little advice:

When people start sniping back and forth over the course of several threads, it gets really tiresome to the rest of us. Particularly those of us who have no clue what you two are going on about.

Disagreements should be limited to one thread.

Coldness and scrolling-over for a few days to weeks works well, too.

Even if you cordially despise someone, the best way to deal with it is by keeping interaction to a minimum.

Too late to save the planet...

Global warming is 'irreversible'

A team of environmental researchers in the US has warned many effects of climate change are irreversible.

The scientists concluded global temperatures could remain high for 1,000 years, even if carbon emissions can somehow be halted.

Their report was sponsored by the US Department of Energy and comes as President Obama announces a review of vehicle emission standards.

Go ahead and buy your SUVs. It doesn't matter anymore.

And at this point in my life, since I am single, I don't need the 80 thousand that I was making 5 years ago. I saw some things coming, saw my ex-wife going south etc. so I started paying off stuff and I came out with a 20 year old's budget.

But, even those 40 thousand a year jobs are going to the 30's something. It seems that 30 years in IT as an analyst and programmer doesn't count so much.

Suffer the Little Children
Every big media event needs what journalists and flacks alike refer to as "the hook." An ideal hook becomes the central element of a story that makes it newsworthy, evokes a strong emotional response, and sticks in the memory. In the case of the Gulf War, the "hook" was invented by Hill & Knowlton. In style, substance and mode of delivery, it bore an uncanny resemblance to England's World War I hearings that accused German soldiers of killing babies.

On October 10, 1990, the Congressional Human Rights Caucus held a hearing on Capitol Hill which provided the first opportunity for formal presentations of Iraqi human rights violations. Outwardly, the hearing resembled an official congressional proceeding, but appearances were deceiving. In reality, the Human Rights Caucus, chaired by California Democrat Tom Lantos and Illinois Republican John Porter, was simply an association of politicians. Lantos and Porter were also co-chairs of the Congressional Human Rights Foundation, a legally separate entity that occupied free office space valued at $3,000 a year in Hill & Knowlton's Washington, DC office. Notwithstanding its congressional trappings, the Congressional Human Rights Caucus served as another Hill & Knowlton front group, which - like all front groups - used a noble-sounding name to disguise its true purpose.80

Only a few astute observers noticed the hypocrisy in Hill & Knowlton's use of the term "human rights." One of those observers was John MacArthur, author of The Second Front, which remains the best book written about the manipulation of the news media during the Gulf War. In the fall of 1990, MacArthur reported, Hill & Knowlton's Washington switchboard was simultaneously fielding calls for the Human Rights Foundation and for "government representatives of Indonesia, another H&K client. Like H&K client Turkey, Indonesia is a practitioner of naked aggression, having seized . . . the former Portuguese colony of East Timor in 1975. Since the annexation of East Timor, the Indonesian government has killed, by conservative estimate, about 100,000 inhabitants of the region."81

MacArthur also noticed another telling detail about the October 1990 hearings: "The Human Rights Caucus is not a committee of congress, and therefore it is unencumbered by the legal accouterments that would make a witness hesitate before he or she lied. ... Lying under oath in front of a congressional committee is a crime; lying from under the cover of anonymity to a caucus is merely public relations."82

In fact, the most emotionally moving testimony on October 10 came from a 15-year-old Kuwaiti girl, known only by her first name of Nayirah. According to the Caucus, Nayirah's full name was being kept confidential to prevent Iraqi reprisals against her family in occupied Kuwait. Sobbing, she described what she had seen with her own eyes in a hospital in Kuwait City. Her written testimony was passed out in a media kit prepared by Citizens for a Free Kuwait. "I volunteered at the al-Addan hospital," Nayirah said. "While I was there, I saw the Iraqi soldiers come into the hospital with guns, and go into the room where . . . babies were in incubators. They took the babies out of the incubators, took the incubators, and left the babies on the cold floor to die."83

Three months passed between Nayirah's testimony and the start of the war. During those months, the story of babies torn from their incubators was repeated over and over again. President Bush told the story. It was recited as fact in Congressional testimony, on TV and radio talk shows, and at the UN Security Council. "Of all the accusations made against the dictator," MacArthur observed, "none had more impact on American public opinion than the one about Iraqi soldiers removing 312 babies from their incubators and leaving them to die on the cold hospital floors of Kuwait City."84

At the Human Rights Caucus, however, Hill & Knowlton and Congressman Lantos had failed to reveal that Nayirah was a member of the Kuwaiti Royal Family.

Well than, that was my fault since I started the sniping. He used the "c" word in a earlier thread, and for some reason he just couldn't understand that that was way beyond the bounds of normal discourse here at LGF.

So, he kept it up, on and on, and he finally said he was gone, for good.

And then he pop back up here. I reacted and, tongue in cheek, started in on him.

It's not his fault, not on this thread.

At the Human Rights Caucus, however, Hill & Knowlton and Congressman Lantos had failed to reveal that Nayirah was a member of the Kuwaiti Royal Family. Her father, in fact, was Saud Nasir al-Sabah, Kuwait's Ambassador to the US, who sat listening in the hearing room during her testimony. The Caucus also failed to reveal that H&K vice-president Lauri Fitz-Pegado had coached Nayirah in what even the Kuwaitis' own investigators later confirmed was false testimony.

As Relatives Lay Dead, Bleeding Gazans Prayed

ZAYTOUN, Gaza -- Just before dawn on Jan. 4, a sledgehammer crashed through the living-room wall of the home of Almaz al-Samuni in this southern enclave of Gaza City, pounding a hole wide enough for someone to poke a rifle through while shouting in a language she didn't understand.

"Get out of the house now," an Israeli soldier ordered, this time in accented Arabic, she recalled. Almaz, small for her age of 13, and her family quickly did as they were told, heading for her uncle Wael's house nearby, where by daybreak 92 family members had packed in thigh-to-thigh. It was a week into Israel's 22-day war with Hamas.

The shelling of Zaytoun has become a flash point in the debate over whether Israel did enough to prevent the loss of civilian life while targeting fighters from Hamas, the Islamist movement that controls the Gaza Strip. Hamas fighters operated in residential areas throughout the conflict and targeted Israeli civilians with rockets, killing three during Israel's offensive.

I'm not sure how anyone can say this with a straight face when in fact, hamas used kids as shields. To question whether Israel did enough to prevent civilian life?

Now's a good time to find cheap, low mileage used SUV's at used car lots. When gas prices went through the roof recently, (George Bushs' fault of course/) people were trading them in for whatever small rice burning car they could find. Now, used car lots are full of them and want to unload them quick!

I got a new switchblade today. It was from the second company I'd ordered it from. The first one sent me the automatic email, and then nothing. At least they didn't charge my card.

The knife itself is pretty interesting. It has an unusual blade shape and action. overall, I'm pleased with this company.

Another switchblade company that I've done good business with is Switchblades.it They are in Italy. I ordered one knife from them before Christmas, and I have another on order. They are a little pricey (they want to be paid in euros), but they have good, tight blades. I've gotten damascus blades on the two I've ordered so, while they were pricey, they also give good value for the money.

How's that for something good?

Nice blades, but abit pricey.....Big 5 always has some nice sales and a $20 knife cuts just as well as a $189 knife.

NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Jimmy Carter said Monday that Israel will face a "catastrophe" unless it revives the Mideast peace process and establishes an independent Palestinian state.

In an interview with The Associated Press, he said Arabs will outnumber Jews in the Holy Land in the foreseeable future.

re: #475 solomonpanting

She should define "normal".

The standard changes.

Take whatever the reading is today and then declare 90% of it "normal" then hold a presser that we are 10% above normal.

From the press clipping she makes some assertions that aren't supported by data available. Maybe it is bad reporting of re report. Nonetheless, some assertions don't hold water. For instance, Antarctic Ice is accumulating and not melting as claimed (evn though there is a portion where it is because of volcanic activity). Another is the claim that carbon dioxide is a persistent gas for hundreds of years - ever seen a tree? And let's not forget the claim that "you just can't see levels go down after turning it off". When Mt Pinatubo exploded and put enough particles in the air to cool the planet a bit, the CO2 readings at Mauna Loa dropped notice ably. It wasn't like carbon production stopped - instead, ocean surfaces cooled.

One thing she does point out that is supportable is that the oceans have a great deal of mass and that they slowly warm and slowly cool. She doesn't mention that there is at least 50 times more CO2 in the oceans than in the atmosphere. And what Pinatubo demonstrated was that ocean cooling sucks CO2 out of the atmosphere and warming kicks it back out, and that if it cools rapidly the CO2 levels change rapidly.

Anyway, this paper and the Mann paper released earlier this week (which borders on a fraud) are the warm up act for the scare circus that Al Gore is ready to perform later this week in the form of testimony to Congress.

White House e-mail system crashes

So the new White House finally gets its e-mail up and running smoothly, and then what happens?

The entire system crashes Monday morning.

The last e-mail from the White House press office before the breakdown arrived just before 9 a.m. Monday, advising that President Barack Obama's event on energy independence in the East Room would be open to all media, instead of just the smaller group of reporters and photographers that typically follows the president.

The malfunction left inboxes in the White House complex and across town eerily empty.

CARTER: I'm not here to defend Hamas, but to tell you what they have pledged to me, and publicly; that if any agreement is negotiated between Fatah leaders and Israel, that Hamas will accept the agreement if it's submitted to the Palestinian people in a referendum. And that's a very good step forward, and I think they will do that because of their own self interest. And Hamas complied very thoroughly with the cease-fire agreement that I had worked out for last June the nineteenth. For five months there were no rockets fired until Israel did attack Gaza again on November the fourth.

Huh - when you first mentioned the CRKT 1130A knife that you might be getting, I looked at it (from the online catelogue you linked to) and it didn't look like a switchblade to me - had a thumb screw and nice cross guard and I'm not used to seeing switchblades with either feature.
Still got my ole A.G. Russell boot/belt double edged knives but that's about the only steel I now own that's worth anything. Sure wish I could pick up a Randall FS-1 somewhere though.

Obama's Showdown Over Nukes

The latest U.S. nuclear showdown doesn't involve a foreign enemy. Instead it pits President Barack Obama against his Defense Secretary, Robert Gates, and concerns the question of whether America needs a new generation of nuclear warheads. While serving under former President George W. Bush, Gates had repeatedly called for the Reliable Replacement Warhead (RRW) program to be put into operation, because the nation's current nukes — mostly produced in the 1970s and '80s — are growing so old that their destructive power may be in question.

. . .

But Obama doesn't buy that logic. Shortly after taking the oath of office on Tuesday, he turned what had been a campaign promise into an official presidential commitment: the new Administration "will stop the development of new nuclear weapons," the White House declared flatly on its website, with no equivocation, asterisks or caveats.

Ex-Guantanamo inmates rearrested

SAUDI authorities have rearrested nine Islamist militants, including former inmates of the US military detention centre at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, the interior ministry said.

The ministry yesterday said the nine Saudi nationals had undergone a rehabilitation program for Islamist militants arrested in the kingdom and for returnees from the notorious US prison.

"Since the start of the rehabilitation program, nine people, who had taken part in the program, have been rearrested," a ministry official told state news agency SPA.

"Some of them had returned from Guantanamo," the official said.

The comments come in the wake of reports that two men who had been released from Guantanamo and went through the rehabilitation program had resurfaced in Yemen and had rejoined al-Qaeda.

A priest, Jesus, and an old man tee off.

The priest drives the green within 5 yards of the hole.

Jesus slices the ball and it goes into the water hazard. He quickly runs across the water and hits his second onto the green 2 inches from the hole.

The old man tees off with a short worm burner that trickles into the hazard. Soon after a fish eats the ball and swims across the pond with it in its mouth. Just then an eagle swoops down and snatches the fish with the golf ball and flies off. The eagle loses its grip and drops the fish on the green. The fish then spits out the ball and it rolls into the hole for a hole in one.

Jesus turns to the old man and replies, "Play fair dad!"

Was waiting for the hopen thread to start posting today's bad jokes but ..

This man goes to confession and says, "Forgive me father for I have sinned." The priest asks if he would like to confess his sins and the man replies that he used the "F-word" over the weekend.

The priest says, "Oh okay, just say three Hail Marys and try to watch your language."

The man replies that he would like to confess as to why he said the "F-word". The priest sighs and tells him to continue.

Well father I played golf on Sunday with my buddies instead of going to church.

The priest says, "And you got upset over that and swore?"

The man replied, "No, that wasn't why I swore. On the first tee I duck-hooked my drive well left into the trees."

The priest said, "And that's when you swore."

The man replied, a little testily because of the constant interruptions, "No, it wasn't. When I walked up the fairway, I noticed my ball got a lucky bounce and I had a clear shot to the green. However, before I could hit the ball, a squirrel ran by and grabbed my ball and scurried up a tree."

The priest asked, "Is that when you said the 'F-word'?"

The man replied, "No, because an eagle then flew by and caught the squirrel in its sharp talons and flew away."

The priest let out a breath and queried, "Is that when you swore?"

The man replied, "No, because the eagle flew over the green and the dying squirrel let go of my golf ball and it landed within 5 inches of the hole."

The priest screamed, "Don't tell me you missed the fucking putt!"

Why worry about personal responsibility at this point?

Seriously....

Moving on, I went to visit my grandmother last Friday. 95 years old, can't see well, uses hearing aids. She asked me if I watched the "Thing in Washington."

I had the TV on, but I wasn't really paying attention, grandma.

"I can't watch that man," she said. "He bothers me."

Well, hell, 95 years old and still telling the truth! (He bothers me too, grandma!)

re: #666 Dustyvet

Jesus and Moses were down at Pebble Beach playing around of golf. They got to one hole with a wicked water trap. Moses took one look and turned to Jesus and said, "I think you are going to need the 5 iron for this shot."
Jesus says, "Nope, I have seen Tiger Woods do it with the 3 iron, so that's what I am going to use." Sure enough he uses the 3 iron, and into the water hazard it goes. So Moses parts the water, and retrieves Jesus golf ball, an on the return states again that the 5 iron would be best. Jesus insists that Tiger Woods uses the 3 iron so that's what he's going to use. This happens two more times with the same results, and Moses retrieving the ball.

And so the fourth time it happens, Moses goes to Jesus, "Enough, you can retrieve your own golf ball."
So Jesus walks on water and picks up his wall and returns to the shore.

A golfer sees this and goes to Moses, "Who does that guy think he is? Jesus Christ?"

And Moses goes, "Nope, today it's Tiger Woods."

Brother 1: So how is my cat doing?

Brother 2: She's Dead

Brother 1: OMG she's dead? What do you mean she's dead! I loved that cat. Couldn't you think of a nicer way to tell me! I'm leaving in 3 days. You could have broken it to me a little more gently. You could have told me today that she got out of the house or something. Then when I called before I left you could have told me, well, we found her but she got up on the roof and we're having trouble getting her down. Then when I called you from the airport you could have told me the fire department was there with a net and scared her off the roof but she missed the net and unfortunately died instantly when she hit the ground.

Brother 2: I'm sorry...you're right...that was insensitive I won't let it happen again.

Brother 1: Alright, alright, forget about it. Anyway, how is Mom doing?

couple was on their honeymoon, lying in bed, about ready to consummate
their marriage, when the new bride says to the husband, "I have a confession

The husband replies, "That's no big thing in this day and age."

The wife continues, "Yeah, I've been with one other guy."

"Oh yeah? Who was the guy?"

"Tiger Woods."

"Tiger Woods the golfer?"

"Yeah."

"Well he's rich, famous and handsome. I can see why you went to bed with him."

The husband and wife then make passionate love. When they get done, the
husband gets up and walks to the telephone.

"What are you doing?" says the wife.
The husband says, "I'm hungry. I was going to call room service and get some
food."

"Tiger wouldn't do that."

"Oh yeah? What would Tiger do?"

"He'd come back to bed and do it a second time."

The husband puts down the phone and goes back to bed to make love with his
wife a second time. When they finish, he gets up and goes over to the phone.

"What are you doing?" she says.

The husband says, "I'm still hungry so I was going to get room service to get
some food."

"Tiger wouldn't do that."

"Oh yeah? What would Tiger do?"

"He'd come back to bed and do it one more time."

The guy slams down the phone and goes back to bed and makes love to his wife
one more time. When they finish he's tired and beat. He drags himself over to

"No! I'm calling Tiger Woods to find out what's par for this hole!"

"Sure, I'll be here," said Frank, "but remember I could be late, but it will only be a couple of minutes!"

"We'll wait," one of the golfers assured him. "But by the way, could you explain something that's been mystifying us all. Yesterday you played right-handed and today you played left-handed. Obviously you're proficient at both so how do you decided which way to play.'

"Ah well," Frank answered, "when I wake up in the morning, if my wife's lying on her right side, I play right-handed and if she's lying on her left side, I play left-handed. Simple as that."

"But what if she's lying on her back?"

Hold it like you would...

A woman is learning how to golf. She has been teaching herself to play for more than three months and she is really bad. She decides to consult a golf pro.

When she sees the golf pro, she explains how bad she is and he tells her to go ahead and hit the ball. She does. The ball goes about 50 yards into the brush slicing to the right. The golf pro says to the woman, "I can see that you have a lot of problems. Your stance is bad, your head is all over the place, and the worst thing is that grip."

When she asks what can be done to fix the situation, he suggests, "Grab the club gently, as if you were grabbing your husbands penis. When the feeling is right, go ahead and swing." She does just that and the ball goes off the tee perfectly straight for about 275 yards.

The golf pro says to the woman, "That is unbelievable, I didn't think you would do that well. But now on to the next problem. How do we get that golf club out of your mouth?"

It still hurts

A couple of women were playing golf one sunny Saturday morning. The first of the twosome teed off and watched in horror as her ball headed directly toward a foursome of men playing the next hole.

Indeed, the ball hit one of the men, and he immediately clasped his hands together at his crotch, fell to the ground and proceeded to roll around in evident agony.

The woman rushed down to the man and immediately began to apologize. She explained that she was a physical therapist: Please allow me to help.

I'm a physical therapist and I know I could relieve your pain if you'd allow me she told him earnestly.

Ummph, oooh, nnooo, I'll be alright...I'll be fine in a few minutes, he replied breathlessly as he remained in the fetal position still clasping his hands together at his crotch.

But she persisted, and he finally allowed her to help him. She gently took his hands away and laid them to the side, she loosened his pants, and she put her hands inside. She began to massage him. She then asked him: How does that feel? To which he replied: It feels great, but my thumb still hurts like hell.

Again she screamed, "Kawasaki! Kawasaki!" And again, he smiled proudly at this congratulation and continued.

Finally, she shrieked "KAWASAKI!" a third time, jumped out of bed and ran from the room. "Must have been too good for her!" he thought to himself, and went to sleep contented with himself.

The next day, while in the middle of his round of golf, one of his Japanese associates hit a perfect 6-iron off the tee right into the cup for a hole-in-one! Remembering his new word and wanting to impress his associates with his linguistic proficiency, the man yelled out Kawasaki!"

Facing Increased Costs, Girl Scouts Downsize Cookie Boxes

It's always seemed a little too effortless to finish off a box of Girl Scout cookies, but if they are a little easier to dust off this year, it's not just in your head. To offset the cost increases of cookie ingredients, Girl Scouts of the USA made the decision to shrink its cookie boxes by a centimeter, package fewer cookies into boxes of Thin Mints, Do-si-dos, and Tagalongs, and reduce the size of its Lemon Chalet Crèmes.

According to the organization, the cost of flour rose by 30 percent, assorted cooking oils by 40 percent, and cocoa by at least 20 percent. The company felt this was the best method of dealing with increasing raw material prices. Alternatively, Girl Scouts could have used cheaper ingredients, or raised cookie prices from their current price of $3.50 per box.

This doesn't come as a surprise to me, since last year producers began rolling out shrunken products in reaction to the price of food on the rise. I'm secretly a bit excited — for once, the downsized box may be enough for me to stop short of a stomachache.

One morning, a man approached the first tee, only to find another guy approaching from the other side. They began talking and decided to play 9 holes together.

After teeing off, they sat off down the fairway, continuing their chat.

"What do you do?" the first man asked.

"I'm a salesman. What about you?"

"I'm a hitman for the mob," replied the second man.

The hitman noticed that the 1st guy started getting a little nervous and continued. "Yeah. I'm the highest paid guy in the business. I'm the best." He stopped, sat down his bag of clubs, and pulled out a fancy, high powered rifle that was loaded with all types of scopes and sights. He than asked the man where he lived.

Still nervous the man replied, "In a subdivision just west of here."

The hitman placed the gun against his shoulder, faced west, peered into a scope and asked "What color roof ya' got?"

"Gray."

Then he asked "What color siding?"

"Yellow."

"You got a silver Toyota?"

"Yeah," replied the first man who was now completely amazed by the accuracy of the hitman's equipment. "That's my wife's car."

"That your red pickup next to it?"

Looking baffled the man asked if he could look through the scope.

Looking through the sights, he said "Hell. That's my buddy Jeff's truck. What the hell is he doing there if I'm..?"

The hitman looked through the scope once more. "Your wife a blond?"

"Yeah."

"Your buddy got black hair?"

"Yeah!"

"Well, I don't know how to tell you, but I think you've got a problem. They're going at it like a couple of teenagers in there." said the hitman.

"Problem?! THEY'VE got the problem! I want you to shoot both of them! Right now!"

The hitman paused and said, "Sure. But it'll cost you. Like I said, I'm the best. I get paid $5,000 per shot."

"I don't care! Just do it! I want you to shoot her right in the head, then shoot him right in the groin!"

The hitman agreed, turned, and took firing position. He carefully stared into the sights, taking careful aim. He then said, "You know what buddy. This is your lucky day. I think I can save you $5,000!"

Got this a while back-let's see how it plays....

1. A vulture boards an airplane, carrying two dead raccoons. The
Stewardess looks at him and says, 'I'm sorry, sir, only one carrion
allowed per passenger.

2. Two fish swim into a concrete wall. The one turns to the other and
says, 'Dam!'

3. Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, so they lit a fire in
the craft. Unsurprisingly, it sank, proving once again that you can't have your kayak and heat it, too.

4. Two hydrogen atoms meet. One says, 'I've lost my electron.' The
other says, 'Are you sure?' The first replies, 'Yes, I'm
positive.'

5. Did you hear about the Buddhist who refused Novocain during a root
canal? His goal: transcend dental medication.

6. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing
in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an
hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. "But why", they asked, as they moved off. 'Because,' he said, 'I can't stand chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer.'

7. A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named Ahmal. The other goes to a family in Spain; they name him Juan. Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal. Her husband responds, 'They're twins! If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal.'

8. A group of friars were behind on their belfry payments, so they
opened a small florist shop to raise funds. Since everyone liked to buy flowers from the men of God, a rival florist across town thought the competition was unfair. He asked the good fathers to close down, but they would not.
He went back and begged the friars to close. They ignored him. So, the
rival florist hired Hugh MacTaggart, the roughest and most vicious thug in town to 'persuade' them to close. Hugh beat up the friars and trashed
their store, saying he'd be back if they didn't close up shop.
Terrified, they did so, thereby proving that only Hugh can prevent florist friars.

9. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and, with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him (Oh, man, this is SO BAD, it's good) a super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

10. And, finally, there was the person who sent ten different puns to
friends, with the hope that at least one of the puns would make them
laugh.

No pun in ten did.

"I paint the English text, and then e-mail a translation service. They respond with a French translation. On my last sign The English text said `No Right Turn on Red' and the French text said `I'll be out of the office for the rest of the week'.'"

This actually happened, except it was a Welsh sign.

re: #681 LeePro

Thanks, Lee. I remember each and every one. Mazel tov for completing your degree like you did!

My favorite memory is the radio in the kitchen when I was a little kid. It was on top of a high cabinet, so that I couldn't get at it.

My Mum zt"l listened to Lowell Thomas every weekday, at about 7 PM, and 1 day I asked why she always had that on, and she said 'I just love Lowell Thomas!'. I actually climbed up on a chair, stretched up, and turned the radio off!

My poor Mum was speechless, and made me climb off the chair carefully, and asked why in the world I did that. I told her that she should love my Dad, not Lowell Thomas!

All I know is that she had a very hard time keeping a straight face, and when I was seated at the table, she was on the phone to one of her sisters, trying to tell her in broken Yiddish, what I had said and done. My Mum and her sisters really could not speak Yiddish very well, and my cousins and I 'broke the code'early on.. ;)

When my Dad zt"l got home from work? I had eaten, as they ate after I was put in my bed...bet she told him!

Amazing what radio was like...it was on the radio I heard the horrific news about JFK's assassination..and stunned, I turned on TV...the rest I don't want to say now, as I had posted about it last week, IIRC..a radio was wonderful, as you had images in your mind...I still keep a local all-news station on all day.

{Lee} I have to go to sleep! I am falling asleep at the computer! /12 year olds need a lot of sleep!

Sweet dreams, all! G'nite, Lee.

re: #119 Maximu§

I can attest that when it became my turn to be "downsized" after 27 years with my former employer, my fellow downsizees were all – with one exception – white, male, 40-50ish, with an average of about 20 years with the company. The demographics of the surviving group were mostly 30-somethings, 60% male, and about 50% Asian (including many H1B's).

In other words, the Smart ones were let go and than replaced with Dummies.

Not bloody likely. The expensive ones were let go, perhaps. There's also the issue of age: a 40 year old may be just as good as a 30, but 15 years later, it's a different story. And the medical expenses rise as employees age. As long as employers are required to offer medical insurance to every worker, all at the same price regardless of the real cost, employers will rationally prefer younger workers when all else is close to equal.

Or maybe, just maybe, Asians are bright enough to make the cut. Ya think?

The absurdity of the two-state 'solution' manifests itself again; these poor bastards are deserving of nothing.

This comedy will continue to play out until one side prevails; there will never be any co-existence (it isn't desired on one side). Kind of like the inevitable divorce... can't reconcile when one of the parties has moved out and has another partner.

Thanks for the ''before'' video, Charles.
Those lions were in the tiniest enclosure!
Can you imagine if American zoos allowed such a cramped existence for even smaller animals?
All Hell would break loose by the animal right's people.
And what's with a cat enclosure?
Here, we'd call that ''the pound."
Anyway.....Hamas rigs the joint so that even their own zoo keeper stays away and the animals die.
IDF comes in, finds all of that and defuses the explosives.
AND Israel is to blame?
I don't think so.

I understand that the IDF rescued a couple of lions early in the fighting from, I believe, a different "zoo". The Palithug abuse of animals should be subject to an investigation. They treat the people as badly as the animals.

Oh come on! Clearly these were defensive booby traps!

I have never so wished for a lion escape in all of my days.
