Obama’s Tired of Being in the White House

Politics • Views: 4,034

He’s only been there for two weeks, but already Barack Obama is “tired of being in the White House.”

Probably the first President in history to utter those words.

WASHINGTON (AP) - On the rockiest day of his young administration, President Barack Obama did what surely made him happy for a while.
He left.

With little notice, the president and first lady Michelle Obama bolted the gated compound of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in their tank of a limousine on Tuesday. They ended up at a Washington public school, greeted by children who could not care less about the collapse of a Cabinet secretary nomination.

“We were just tired of being in the White House,” the president candidly told the gleeful second-graders at Capital City Public Charter School.

“We got out! They let us out!” Mrs. Obama said as the kids and their teachers laughed.

It took him 2 weeks to say this? I’ve said it since day 1.

He can resign. He screwed up.

3 jcm  Tue, Feb 3, 2009 3:54:43pm

And he wanted 8 to 10 years.

There’s a way out Mr. President.

Look in the files under Nixon.

Most ungrateful comments …they will always have chips on their shoulders …Michelle’s is so big Barack has to help carry it around …they may have won …but as examples of Proud Americans for the children of this country … they are LOSERS…..

9 Silhouette  Tue, Feb 3, 2009 3:56:11pm

Have some pity on him. It has been Two Whole Weeks.

He’s never held a job this long before without already campaigning for the next one.

from the previous thread:
That’s bad news:
(AP) President Barack Obama, and his wife, first lady Michelle Obama, read to second graders at Capital…
“We got out! They let us out!” Mrs. Obama said as the kids and their teachers laughed.

showing that Ms Obama still has a huge chip on her shoulders: THE MAN let her out…………..this is the most powerful couple in the world, complaining about being powerless…………..

11 Racer X  Tue, Feb 3, 2009 3:56:20pm

If those second graders only knew about the taxes they are going to have to pay.

12 Perplexed  Tue, Feb 3, 2009 3:56:21pm

So quit already. You wanted the job and now want out of the responsibilities and demands already? What a loser.

He also has a problem putting in a full day at the office. W was in by 7AM every day in a suit and tie. The One strolls in at 9AM, usually casually dressed or in a jacket.

He can leave. Don’t let the door hit him in ass on the way out. With the caveat that he takes every bumbling idiot with him as he goes - which should leave us about, what, 2 congress critters left? We start over from there.

26 Kragar  Tue, Feb 3, 2009 3:58:15pm

At least they got the important part of the story out there at the start:

On the rockiest day of his young administration, President Barack Obama did what surely made him happy for a while.

Well, as long as the Messiah is happy, everything will be right as rain.

Both Reagan and Bush chopped brush and cleared land. The press moaned and pissed. Both men had a clue how to deal with REAL stress.

Get a clue Mr. President.

Failing to get 25 people to sign your petition is not stress.

Nuclear armed states threatening to annihilate billions of people too much for ya?

I would refer you to Harry S Truman.

Someone told me on the inauguration that, ‘I’ll bet the Obama’s will be tired after all of the festivities today.’

‘I’m all ready tired of them,’ I responded.

‘No, coach, I said that the Obama’s would be tired,’ she said again thinking to correct me.

It would be funny if it weren’t so awful. The only thing he’s a prisoner to is his enormous ego. Now that it’s not getting stroked minute-by-minute, he’s bored.

The only problem is, what job does he have his sights set on now? The only thing sure about his past is that he makes a habit of looking at his next position up the ladder, as he takes the current one.

He was upbeat. He and his wife read the students a book about the inspirational story of astronauts landing on the moon.

While last March, he sure didn’t think it was “inspirational.”

But Obama said he does not agree with the way the space program is now being run and thinks funding should be trimmed until the mission is clearer.

“NASA has lost focus and is no longer associated with inspiration,” (Obama) said.

So, kids, while we all enjoyed that story, remember that I’m cutting NASA funding and none of you will ever get to walk on the moon. Here, have a condom.

Remember when it was so cool to play president on the campaign with your very own seal and chair that said “Mr. President” on it?

Remember how you couldn’t wait to get into the White House during the transition, so much so you wanted to violate tradition and move into the Blair House early and invented the “Office of the President-Elect” so you could play at it longer?

Fun wasn’t it, being the big guy, the important one.

Well, now you are it. Stop complaining and remember the country and that office is far bigger than you are.

Welcome to your first job in a leadership position Mr. President. No more phoning it in and voting “present”. You actually have to do some decisive work, and no matter what you do, it will be wrong with half the people.

It only gets harder and worse from here; and eventually the media will turn on you. Hell of a time to find out there is a lot of responsibility that goes with all those cool toys. And you’re here for four years, and you have to really F*** up for them to think about firing you.

TWO WEEKS. Plus, 9-11 wasn’t planned. He got that call out of the blue, and had to quickly make a *gasp* decision. RIGHT THERE. On the spot. He chose not to panic children. He remained composed, finished his book, and then took care of business. Not even remotely the same thing.

This is the result of an ignorant electorate. It took the left 40 years to dumb the population down enough so they could have their silent coup. No one in the administration is smart enough to run the country—they only know how to fritter away our treasure. Put a beggar on horseback and he’ll ride to hell is a phrase once used. Appropriate now.

Well said Jemima……you sum it up nicely.
It makes me terribly sad to see my country crumble in front of me. The erosion that’s been going on for the last 40 years has been happening, almost in slow motion, right in front of our eyes. And it seems we’ve been powerless to do anything about it.

You are not getting my point. Go up thread a little. Pres. Bush was criticized heavily for staying and speaking to those children on 9/11. He was practically accused of dereliction of duty for doing so. Now we have a manchild as President who tells impressionable kids he’s tired of being in the White House and to the MSM everything is just groovy. I seem to be hearing a lot of people (usually leftists and CBC types) pluralizing words that normally have no plural.

For example: “My Childrens”, “Behaviours”, “Learnings”, “Teachings”,

“Genocides”, etc.

Yes. It’s called impeachment.

Besides high crimes and misdemeanors, demonstrated incompetence and/or dereliction of duty, plus conduct unbecoming, are grounds for same. They just haven’t ever been applied.

Of course, it’s always been more-or-less understood that if a President f**ks up badly enough, he’ll have the good grace to go quietly, like Nixon after Watergate in fact or President Fowler in fiction (Clancy’s The Sum of All Fears) after the terrorist bomb in Denver. In The One’s case, I would expect him to look for a scapegoat instead, as it seems to be a conditioned reflex with him to blame others for his own shortcomings.

/He could be the first President impeached for simply being an idiot.

The point here is he said “I’m tired of being in the White House”. That is key. He did not enjoy an evening at the Theater, or dinner with his wife to which he could say “With leading this great nation, it understandably leaves precious little time for entertainment. I do not wish to be away from my the desk for long as I have much at stake. I’ve ensured I am easily reached for any reason and plan to be back at my nose at the grindstone in short order”.

I seem to be hearing a lot of people (usually leftists and CBC types) pluralizing words that normally have no plural.

For example: “My Childrens”, “Behaviours”, “Learnings”, “Teachings”,

“Genocides”, etc.

Bobblehead,

Your point makes sense to me. I can see Obama running out after a few months, but if all it takes is a couple of weeks to stress this guy out, we’re in for some interesting times. For his entire political life, Obama has been coddled and helped. Maybe the Republicans will figure out it’s easy to stand up against this guy.

316 jcw46  Tue, Feb 3, 2009 4:55:11pm

Actually the Presidency has become more, on the outside, about PR than about policy and formulating same.
Pres. Clinton was the first to publicly appear as if he was still on the campaign trail rather than having won. (another similarity is that neither of them really expected to win this time around).

Rush made comments about this all during Clinton’s presidency and even the MFM made mention occasionally.

Many times it is much more fun to pursue than to achieve. “Getting there is half the fun”. (old ad campaign for an airline I believe).

Campaigning is adrenalin arousing, having to engage new people and exert one’s personality upon them and sway them to your side. Seeing new places and people everyday. (being able to plead tiredness when the wab wants to hug).

Quite thrilling and exhilarating.

Making the tough decisions that may/may not cause people to be hurt/killed at a later time or for damage to be done to your reputation; not so thrilling to most.

In the world economy— Cutting the legs off of trade partners in Europe and elsewhere isn’t going to help. AARRGGHH! is my take.

“Children” is the plural; “childrens” is nonstandard.
“Behaviors” is ok if one is discussing different actions.
“Learnings” is bizarre, but “teachings,” like “behaviors,” is ok if one is talking about more than one,

Through the weird thaumaturgy of American politics of the last eight years, American politics — and the Democratic Party in particular — grew increasingly obsessed with a war with a casualty rate of staggeringly small proportions, that had been basically won by the time of the 2008 elections. Even more shocking, members of the opposing party and sometimes his own have the audacity to disagree with him. Don’t they know “He won”? The press “grilled” him by asking one whole question. How much is a man supposed to take? Can’t he just finish his waffle!?

Also:

President Obama’s first public act of foreign policy was to apologize on behalf of the United States to the Muslim world (apparently for freeing millions of Muslims from tyranny in Iraq, helping seize Kosovo Field from the Serbs, and only repeating the phrase “religion of peace” to describe Islam 2.6 million times the last eight years). Even before taking office, his transition team was reaching out to the Middle East to try to return America to its footing there in the late 1990s. The essential stupidity of these acts is no less for being entirely consistent with both a Clinton-era style of problem management (”I feel your pain”) and the odd, modern Democratic fixation on the Middle East and correcting the policies of the Bush Administration. Obama is pretending that the Middle East is the most important thing going in the world right now, and that the rest of the world can be managed, Clinton style. This is a profound misallocation of political capital and diplomatic resources, and one for which there is no excuse.

OT—sort of

Obama told NBC “I’m frustrated with myself” for unintentionally sending a message that there are “two sets of rules” for paying taxes, “one for prominent people and one for ordinary folks.”
“I take responsibility for this mistake,” he told Fox News.

I’d like to see Obama nominate every single person in the House and Senate for a cabinet position and maybe if they all voluntarily pay their back taxes before confirmation hearings we’ll fix the deficit.

On another issue, I guess the Fresh Prince of Bill Ayers also thinks there are two rules for having heat. One for himself and one for the people of Kentucky. [can’t remember who first posted using that moniker for Obama but I’m going to use it often].

Bush was TANG. In the guard you needed 50 points a year to meet your commitment. 6 years, Bush needed 300 points. In those 6 years Bush had 957 points. The last year ‘72 he had 52.

My observation, as an outsider who (provisionally at least) supports your president and your country, is that Obama Derangement Syndrome is as real as Bush Derangement Syndrome. The giveaway is this business of seeing evil in just about every action, saying and facial expression the president makes. Criticism of policy and decisions is absolutely fair game, but this sort of nonsense where people extrapolate the downfall of society from an easy-going remark made to some kids is something else altogether.

I think extreme partisanship creates a tendency towards derangement and that is true for both wings of the political fray.

Your comment might have some validity if our dismay was based solely on his “easy-going remark”, as you called it. But when you look at his failure to produce a viable economic stimulus package, his bone-headed foreign policy moves, his ham-fisted management of the war on terror, and his apparent inability to find qualified cabinet appointees who has any fitness for public office, the apparent glee with which our enemies are advancing in the Near and Far East, and then add in the fact that he fled the White House for an unscheduled visit to a public school instead of working to resolve any of the pressing problems he faces, his “easy-going” remark fits in with all the rest of his missteps during his long two weeks in office.

He’s simply not serious enough a person to be the leader of the free world in a time of economic and military crisis.

He’s tired of the WH after 2 weeks?

He hasn’t even had a crisis to deal with. O, establishing Chicago-on-the-Potomac is turning out to be more difficult than he thought, but he hasn’t had any tough decisions, although he has managed to make some bad ones, antagonizing India, for example.

How far will he need to run if he has to give the order for an action as dire as shooting down an American airliner, for example? Will he just curl up into a fetal ball?

I would not be surprised to see this guy have a nervous breakdown. He’s way overmatched by the job. He thought it would be just adoring mobs and sycophants at parties; he never had to work before and it’s a great shock and surprize.

420 Capitalistincharge  Tue, Feb 3, 2009 7:03:09pm

In his first two weeks:

1. A bad stimulus pkg. and pissed off Americans
2. Bad judgment on administration picks, bunch of crooks
3. Tries to open talks with Iran..Iran sneers at Obama and says we’re weak.
4. India & Pakistan tell obama not to make an issue of Kasmir or else…
5. No word yet on Israel/Hamas …
6. No recognition of the consequences of Russia & Cuban new and prosperous friendship.
7. EU tells Obama that if he pursues Protectionist Trade Policies, the world will retaliate and all economies will experience disaster.

This is not a complete list, but, so far he has proven to be inexperienced in foreign policy and economic policy. He has proven that the people he chooses to surround him are no better or any less corrupt than his Chicago gang. And he’s tired of the White House and had to escape. He does not belong there. Has no business being there.

I think that way too much is getting read into this apparently humorous, easy-going remark that was made - let’s face it - in the way of breaking the ice with a bunch of kids.

No. This wasn’t humor. One doesn’t joke like that about the WH. It’s demeaning to the office of president and exposes their lack of class. He was a community organizer, for heaven’s sake. His sole job, other than vote present for 143 days, was to stir up malcontents and strong-arm corporations and the banking industry.

This is a pathetic example to set for those little kids.

Your comment might have some validity if our dismay was based solely on his “easy-going remark”, as you called it. But when you look at his failure to produce a viable economic stimulus package, his bone-headed etc

Obamas ‘awfulness’ at this point is more about your expectations of the outcomes of his policies and decisions - (his foreign policy moves are open to interpretations other than your own; and, expecting him to get the economy on the right track in 2 weeks is expecting a lot - and remember - it wasn’t Obama who created that mess) - these are informed by what your politics tells you to expect from him. Add to that the off the cuff remarks that to anyone else seem perfectly harmless and not even comment-worthy, and voila: Obama-doom is just around the corner.

There have been presidents who didn’t really want the office, but none of them showed so much passion for the office when they were running as Barak did. He reminds me of a child whining for an expensive toy and then who grows quickly bored with it once he has it.

And isn’t it strange that the Obamas would be going to a public school that they won’t send their own daughters to?

We should be careful what we wish for.

As one who has studied a lot of European history, I can tell you that some countries have been really unlucky with their leaders. France, for example. The United States has been quite lucky except in the period before the Civil War, and it’s hard to see how any President could have handled that particular crisis.

Anyway, my point is…maybe our luck has run out. Of course, it’s too early to tell, but I got a very very bad feeling when Obama won the election.

she spilled her guts to 2nd graders. not even wondering how that might go over w/ such little children.

She spilled her guts to them because kids see through liars more effectively than most adults and she didn’t want to get called out by them lest the media wise up some…

re: #114 Bobblehead

As the “red phone” starts ringing Obama is across town napping while michele servesing jello arugula to pre-schoolers.

Sorry, I don’t think O would lower himself to actually serve the kids, he will retreat into a fetal nap pose while Michele takes over and serves the kids what she feels they need.

Well, Joe Biden already warned us that The O will be tested and we won’t like the response, but will have to rally behind him.

This is what comes from affirmative action.

Looks like “The One” didn’t think this job thing through before he applied. Great! The stressful stuff hasn’t even begun yet, and he’s already complaining? And to 7 YEAR OLDS?

…only 206 weeks to go…the workload and pace are killers!

re: #457 gonecamping

We should rally around him true. However, 9-11 came with little warning, I don’t care whether there were some memo’s with obscure hints floating around or not. Bush took hits for not seeing the unthinkable happening.

Obama doesn’t have the luxury of NOT being forewarned and he’ll pay a huge price for the game he is attempting to play. I don’t know whether he really is so naive or just totally ignorant of how the real world works. Whichever one it is I don’t take pleasure in it, we all are going to pay a huge price for the election of this man.

My friend, your country is not crumbling. Big O is merely a setback.

You Yanks have endured worse. (I think)

Thanks for the encouragement, but I’m not so sure. We did survive a Civil War and Jimmy Carter, but this guy really has me scared.

Maybe he can find a “stand-in” like in that old Richard Dreyfus movie whose name escapes me at the moment.

re: #454 Kaymad

I have that same feeling in the pit of my stomach. The MSM is doing a good job covering up Obama’s general incompetence but enough is starting to leak out to give people who pay attention some pause. I felt long before the election that if Obama got elected it would be a disaster for our country and every thing’s that happened since then has re-enforced that feeling. I do hope and pray I’m wrong, but I nothing I’ve seen or heard from him says “competent” or “prepared.” I still having a hard time believing this dufus is President of the US.

And our enemies are paying attention and noticing the same things. They know a weakling when they see one. They are going to play our clueless President like a drum.

Bush led.
Obama fled.
Hid under the bed.
In over his head.
Citizens bled.
American freedom dead.

(Hey, that spells BOHICA vertically! I’m SO clever!)

In other countries, they’ve learned that the real trick once you’ve ‘fled an office’ is to GET BACK IN….

Arrogant?

Did you not live in this country for the past 8 years? And your you are going to call this president arrogant?

Any other word than that. I think the last administration cornered the arrogance market.

469 Smorgasbord  Wed, Feb 4, 2009 8:39:30pm

If obama is tired of the Whitehouse already, maybe he could go back to his old job. I heard it could be up for sale again.

If he can get bored in the Whitehouse, it makes me wonder what kind of life he has been living.
