The persons specified below are eligible for ground burial in Arlington National Cemetery. The last period of active duty of former members of the Armed Forces must have ended honorably. Interment may be casketed or cremated remains.

Any active duty member of the Armed Forces (except those members serving on active duty for training only).
Any veteran who is retired from active military service with the Armed Forces.
Any veteran who is retired from the Reserves is eligible upon reaching age 60 and drawing retired pay; and who served a period of active duty (other than for training).
Any former member of the Armed Forces separated honorably prior to October 1, 1949 for medical reasons and who was rated at 30% or greater disabled effective on the day of discharge.
Any former member of the Armed Forces who has been awarded one of the following decorations:
Medal of Honor
Distinguished Service Cross (Navy Cross or Air Force Cross)
Distinguished Service Medal
Silver Star
Purple Heart
The President of the United States or any former President of the United States.
Any former member of the Armed Forces who served on active duty (other than for training) and who held any of the following positions:

Getting back OT, I actually live in Englewood. I went to the yeshiva [The Moriah Hebrew Day School] that shares a perimeter with the Libyan mission. Mayor Mike Wildes [a family friend] and Rabbi Boteach were quite vocal about their opposotion to Qaddafi's arrival here. It was pretty much the buzz at the two largest Modern Orthodox schuls here -- East Hill Synagogue and Ahavath Torah. Although I did not go to services this AM [at a small congregation, Shomrei Emunah], word gets around very quickly at the shabbos luncheons here.

I was thinking of Ted's brother Bobby Kennedy today and the impromptu speech he gave to a crowd of black Americans who hadn't yet been told of the death of MLK Jr. It was supposed to be a campaign stop, but he turned out to be the one to give the the news of the assassination.

So I ask you tonight to return home, to say a prayer for the family of Martin Luther King, yeah that's true, but more importantly to say a prayer for our own country, which all of us love - a prayer for understanding and that compassion of which I spoke. We can do well in this country. We will have difficult times. We've had difficult times in the past. And we will have difficult times in the future. It is not the end of violence; it is not the end of lawlessness; and it's not the end of disorder.

But the vast majority of white people and the vast majority of black people in this country want to live together, want to improve the quality of our life, and want justice for all human beings that abide in our land.

I usually do that, too-- not the pear wood. But, I heard that once meat hits 140, it stops absorbing the smoke flavor. I just go to coals at that point or transfer it to the oven at 200

New bizarre twists in Clayton bombing

A federal search warrant obtained by the Post-Dispatch connects a former Democratic campaign strategist to a Clayton bombing last year that seriously injured an attorney.

About two months after the October bombing, federal law enforcement officials searched the downtown loft of Milton H. "Skip" Ohlsen III, seeking "evidence related to the planning, execution, and/or cover-up of the bombing in Clayton, Missouri, on October 16, 2008." Ohlsen in recent weeks has been at the center of a swirling political scandal that is threatening the political careers of at least two Missouri Democratic legislators.

The Clayton bombing injured attorney John L. Gillis of the Armstrong Teasdale firm. But investigators now believe Gillis was not the intended target of the bomb that exploded next to his car in the parking garage at 190 Carondelet Plaza.

Instead, as the Post-Dispatch first reported Monday evening on STLtoday.com, authorities suspect the bomb was intended for Richard J. Eisen, a former Husch Blackwell Sanders attorney. Eisen has led legal battles against Ohlsen and had an office in the Clayton building that was bombed.

Eisen, now an attorney at Growe, Eisen, Karlen, Eilerts & Ruth, LLC, represented Ohlsen's ex-wife, Michelle, in a divorce that was filed in December 2007. He also represented a Maryland Heights man who obtained a temporary restraining order against Ohlsen.

"The charges to which these officials pleaded guilty are a violation of the public’s trust, and their resignations are both necessary and appropriate," Nixon said in a statment.

Smith, Brown and a former Smith campaign worker, Nick Adams, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in St. Louis to of conspiracy to obstruct justice in a Federal Elections Commission investigation in the aftermath of the 2004 Congressional election won by Russ Carnahan. Additionally, Smith and Adams pleaded guilty to another county of conspiracy to obstruct justice in a federal grand jury investigation this year.

Smith and Brown, both Democrats from St. Louis, also resigned their seats today.

Orson Scott Card has a science fiction series in which a new institution has emerged: the Speaker for the Dead. The speaker tells the truth of a man's life, as nearly as he can discern it, including both bad and good, and if possible, the reasons and motives behind both.

To do this for Kennedy would be immensely difficult. There would be much to say on both sides of the ledger.

But we don't have that institution, and it is understood that this forum is not the place for efforts to fill the shoes of the "speaker".

Dictators rule through fear, but also through providing stuff, and giving people a sense of security. You don't want to be too unpopular.

My rabbi once commented, in his adorable German accent, that it bothered him that perfectly nice young men now wore Doc Martens and shaved their heads for fashion's sake. It made it so much harder to tell if people were neo-Nazis or not.

Sen. Lautenberg made a very good statement, as well. The Jersey leg. people really did not want this.

Longtime member that he is. I remember writing to him a great deal when I lived in New Jersey. Glad you brought him up because I looked up his Wiki and finally was reminded of who he replaced, Millicent Fenwick who was an interesting Republican of her time.
