A unique documentary on the relationship between people and plants...
Botany of Desire Full-Length Program
The book is available here: The Botany of Desire: A Plant's-Eye View of the World
In making his point, Pollan focuses on the relationship between humans and four specific plants: apples, tulips, marijuana, and potatoes.
...
Pollan has read widely on the subject and elegantly combines literary, historical, philosophical, and scientific references with engaging anecdotes, giving readers much to ponder while weeding their gardens.
I also highly recommend his other book, In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto . It will change the way you eat.

Well, if Hoffman wins the race, as I think he will, the Republicans will do all they can to kill off all the "RINOs". The Dems will then run plenty of Blue Dogs, and laugh at their "ideologically pure" counterparts as they continue one-party rule for at least the next few decades.

Well, no, my plants are legal.
But, if you look at the concentrations of THC in current "pot" plants, versus 20 years ago, you can see the influence that man and selective breeding can have, on a particular species.
IIRC, THC has gone from 4% to over 20%, with selective breeding.

And, a virused plant is ultimately a dead plant. Sometimes it takes a while, though. I think my favorite part, was on the Monsanto GM potatoes.
Seriously, when a human selectively breeds a plant, that is or is not extinct in the wild, for a couple of hundred years. That plant is bred for the "human desired" characteristics. Not the qualities that allow the plant to survive in the wild.

Clinton eases praise of Israel after Arab concerns
MARRAKECH, Morocco – Trying to mute Arab criticism that the Obama administration had retreated from its tough stance on Israeli settlements, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday softened her praise for Israel's offer to restrain new housing in Palestinian areas.
While Israel was moving in the right direction in its offer to restrict but not stop the settlements, Clinton said, its offer "falls far short" of U.S. expectations.

After constantly reading hopeful comments on various websites about the Republicans taking back control of the Senate in 2010 I decided to do some checking on how likely that is. While it is still laughably early to really attempt to nail any of these races down (still 365 days away), I wanted to get 'the lay of the land' so to speak. Based on the early polling numbers that I could find, this is a simple approximation of where we are right this minute. The fact that Rasmussen has done a large percentage of the early polls makes it more difficult to determine the likely winner because they often seem to give Republican candidates much higher numbers than any of the other polling organizations where comparisons are available.
Only candidates that have to date announced their intention to run are included, with a couple of noted exceptions.

Repost from this morning.
[Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...]
A new video of Jeremiah Wright has surfaced, showing Barack Obama's pastor of 20 years praising Marxism and discussing his ties to communists in El Salvador and Nicaragua and the Libyan government. Equally important, Wright is being introduced in the video by Robert W. McChesney, co-founder of Free Press, an organization which has come under scrutiny for its links to the Obama Administration and dedication to the transformation and control of the private media in the U.S.
In an article in the socialist Monthly Review, "Journalism, Democracy, and Class Struggle," McChesney declared, "Our job is to make media reform part of our broader struggle for democracy, social justice, and, dare we say it, socialism."
In the video, which captures Wright's appearance at a September 17, 2009, anniversary celebration of Monthly Review, Wright said that while the "corporate media" provide a "binary lens" of the world, in such terms as "communist versus Christian," Monthly Review offers what it calls "no-nonsense Marxism."
He added: "You dispel all the negative images we have been programmed to conjure up with just the mention of that word socialism or Marxism."
He called America "land of the greed and home of the slave."

JAMES HETFIELD IS PROUD METALLICA’S MUSIC WAS USED TO TORTURE GUANTANAMO PRISONERS
Metallica frontman James Hetfield recently told German-language TV network 3sat that part of him was proud the U.S. military chose the band’s music to torture prisoners at U.S. detention centers in Cuba’s Guantanamo Bay. “It’s strong; it’s music that’s powerful,” Hetfield says. “It represents something that they don’t like—maybe freedom, aggression… I don’t know… Freedom of speech.

This is from the original article at AIM. Look at the cesspool of radicals mentioned together:
It is not clear what kind of personal relationship that McChesney, a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has with Obama. But his influence on the Obama Administration, as reflected in the FCC appointments, seems to be significant.
When he recently staged an on-air fundraising drive for his "Media Matters" radio show, McChesney included John Nichols, a co-founder of Free Press; Ben Scott of Free Press; Norman Solomon of the Institute for Public Accuracy; and Noam Chomsky of the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism, a Communist Party spin-off group. Nichols was a speaker at a 2002 CCDS conference in San Francisco.
Ben Scott was a graduate student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign when he co-authored a piece with McChesney for the Monthly Review on the problems of "capitalist journalism." He and McChesney also co-authored Our Unfree Press: 100 Years of Radical Media Criticism.
Scott would go on to serve as a legislative fellow for then-Representative and open socialist Bernie Sanders and then become the policy director for Free Press.
The contributors to Monthly Review include former Weather Underground terrorist Bernardine Dohrn; Marilyn Buck, another former Weather Underground member; convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal; Bill Fletcher, Jr., a founder of Progressives for Obama; and Chomsky.

Yes. It's a mild 40 degrees, going down to a comfortable 26. No snow in the forecast for this week. That's good, considering we are in crossover between shows, we open our Xmas show on Nov. 13, and we have two more weeks of rehearsals.
Normally I don't have to get involved in rehearsals, but I am actually in this show, sort of. It's a radio studio version of "It's A Wonderful Life," where 5 actors play 125 characters, like in a radio show. I have to play the station stage manager, so I have a few lines and have to be on stage off and on, between running back to the control booth doing my regulars duties.
I had to cut my wonderfully long blond hair today and die it dark brown (see avatar).
I think Nov. 13th is a little early for a Xmas show.

As I said in the intro, this is strictly based on the current, one year till election, polling data. The error factor is going to be hugh to say the least, especially since most peoples first response to the poll was probably "What? I don't know, the primaries havn't even started yet!"
This is what the polls say right now, take it for what it is, in some races a wild leap of faith, in others there really is no doubt. Basically what it says is unless there is some completely unforeseen circumstance to drastically change the election climate the Republicans have no apparent chance of re-gaining a majority in the senate in 2010.

I think you know this, already. But it certainly took some exposure for Obama to distance himself from his former pastor.
Thanks FG. Actually, I had replied to the wrong comment - I tried to clarify but I think you missed my clarification. Sorry for my lack of preview.

re: #147 Conservative Moonbat
I think people are just tired of Wright being brought up to criticize Obama. I don't think he'll be a useful tool in 2012. Using guilt by association tactics just makes it look like you don''t have any legitimate grounds to criticize Obama directly.
Understood, but the talk of Wright in 2008 was merely to determine if the information we had on that was enough to cost him the election-which it wasn't. Taking a step back and asking "Now just how much influence did he have on his political education and just how much does he agree with the man" is still a fair point. Just because something was played out in endless media cycles does not mean that there was never any meat to the story. As a matter of fact, I'm more concerned about McChesney's participation if indeed he has influence with the administration as the article claims.
We're not talking about "G - D America" soundbytes anymore. And it's not an attempt to make him ineligible for office either now or in 2012. It's just questioning whether or not he might be inclined to go along with this apparent attempt to radically alter the free market economy -something which would concern me if it happens. And if the answer is "He is not" then fine. But Wright's presence in the story does not invalidate it or move it into the "tiresome" camp. I'll judge Obama's actions now and in the future, but his associations do make that a difficult endeavor from time to time.

Make me blush...
May I take this opportunity to remind you all that 20 years ago the Berlin Wall came down, finally allowing all those misguided capitalist running-dog tools of the BDR to finally join their comrades in the freedom and utopian wonder and joy of the DDR. Proving, for once and for all the superiority of the New Marxist Man.

Sorry, I LOLed. And it would have been just as funny (if not more!) if it were Michael Moore instead of Beck. But my sense of humor is closer to Patton Oswalt's (my favorite comedian from my generation) and Encyclopedia Dramatica, I revel in the brutal and tasteless.
