Kickin’ It with OG Palin

On the down low
Wingnuts • Views: 22,626

Sure, half-governor Sarah Palin is jumping on the mind-bogglingly stupid right wing bandwagon and taking shots at the White House for inviting rapper Common to last night’s poetry event. Did you think she wouldn’t?

But she wants us all to know that she’s down with the kids and their raps, homey-G.

Palin preemptively shot back against her critics, saying she is a proponent of free speech and is not “anti-rap.”

“Like [Fox News anchor] Brett Baier, I know the lyrics of ‘Rappers Delight too.’”

At least she didn’t say she knew the lyrics from “Ice Ice Baby”.

just posted this in last thread:

Fox News Attacks on ‘Vile Rapper’ Common Was Debunked by Their Own Reporting

Conservatives such as Fox News, the Daily Caller and Sarah Palin are criticizing the White House’s invitation to rapper Common for a poetry event over the purported vulgarity of his lyrics. Fox Nation, for instance, called Common a “vile rapper.”

But roughly half-a-year ago, Fox News had a different tone about Common. In an October 2010 report for FoxNews.com, reporter Jason Robinson interviewed the “rap legend” and told him, “your music is very positive. And you’re known as the conscious rapper. How important is that to you, and how important do you think that is to our kids?”

Common replied that it’s a “significant role. I just try to show who we are as well-rounded people and I’m happy to be known as the conscious artist.”

“Rappers Delight?”

Your kidding right, tell me please that your kidding? Your going to pull out the SugarHill Gang and claim that makes you a fan of rap music? It came out in 1979 for gods sake, and it is freakin Hip-Hop, rap it is not!

Sigh…

More like OMG Palin.

Like America’s favorite quitter, I’m in my 40’s too. Unlike Palin, when I’m around people younger than me, I at least try to minimize any comments that would paint me as an out-of-touch fogey.

What’s amazing is that for someone who want to be POTUS, she has all the communication skills of a rotting moose carcass.

I, actually, do not know the lyrics to Rapper’s Delight, but I could probably take a running start at Blondie’s Rapture.

I will confess I am not down with rap. I have made it as far as the airplane song.

And in case you missed it, Jon Stewart’s Tone Def Poetry Jam is not to be missed:

Wouldnt’cha know it, it’s all about Sarah! Gotta get some hatin’ going, bad bad bad to have the rapper in the White House (get it: “White” House). And gotta get down with what’s really important: that she’s down with rap and knows the rap lyrics. Because like everything else in the universe, this is all about her. You bet’cha.

I’ve never been a fan of rap, but I’ve never been dismissive of it as an art form. I still clearly remember people in the 80’s sagely proclaiming it as a fad.

What Obama should say:

“Yeah, I invited Common to the WH for a little poetry slamming.”

But who got Bin Laden?”

23 Kragar  Thu, May 12, 2011 9:39:35am

Rush was actually trying to make the argument today that killing Bin Laden wasn’t that big a deal because he wasn’t that important anymore.

I don’t try to minimize my status as a pop-culture fogey. When the young-uns start their gibberish I just mumble that I saw The Doors and Steppenwolf in concert, twice in the former case. They hush up and stand back, awestruck.

re: #23 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)

There was a discussion during the Bush years over that very notion - and the bin Laden section was closed because it was considered that OBL wasn’t more than a figurehead. Well, the OBL raid proved that to be anything but. OBL was seriously involved in all aspects of planning and plotting attacks on the US since 9/11 - and hoped to carry out more mass casualty attacks.

Fact-challenged Rush making stuff up to ignore the seriousness of the situation.

30 mr.fusion  Thu, May 12, 2011 9:43:28am

haha Rappers Delight!

She might as well say she used to watch “Family Matters”

As nasty as his lyrics are, I wonder if there would be this amount of freakout if Eminem had been invited to the White House instead of the socially conscious Common.

What a transparent charlatan the Rushaca is. Binny’s departure would have been the second coming of Christ if it had happened under W’s watch.

The last time I saw Steppenwolf it was a dual bill with the Guess Who and it was a disaster. The Guess Who opened and played a great set for about 70 minutes or so, the whole audience was really having a good time singing along with them. Then for whatever reason between the Guess Who and Steppenwolf they had to do a complete set change, and I mean complete. Every cable, every speaker, a lot of the lighting, the backdrops onstage, etc, etc…

This went on for over 90 minutes up there on stage while the audience got more and more restless and pissed off.

Then Steppenwolf finally took the stage and they sounded absolutely terrible, it was horrible. I don’t know if they hadn’t had a chance to adjust for the acoustics of the hall or what, but all we got was mushy tinny reverb laden noise. You couldn’t even hear the lyrics over the guitars, I walked out after the third song, and a lot of the rest of the audience had already beat me to doing it.

Not a very good concert… :(

People forget this part got on to AM radio, but it’s in Rapper’s Delight. I think I’d pay money to hear her rap this “Superman” part of the song:

this young reporter I did adore
so i rocked a vicious rhyme like I never did before
she said damn fly guy I’m in love with you
the casanova legend must have been true
i said by the way baby what’s your name
said i go by the name of lois lane
and you could be my boyfiend you surely can
just let me quit my boyfriend called superman
I said he’s a fairy I do suppose
flyin’ through the air in pantyhose
he may be very sexy or even cute
but he looks like a sucker in a blue and red suit
I said you need a man who’s got finesse
and his whole name across his chest
he may be able to fly all through the night
but can he rock a party til the early light
he cant satisfy you with his little worm
but I can bust you out with my super sperm
