Wingnut Blogs Freak Out Over Lip-Reading

Beyond parody
Wingnuts • Views: 28,613

Right wing bloggers staged a massive freakout over President Obama’s new AttackWatch website, calling it an “Obama snitch squad” and comparing it to Nazi Germany (of course).

Then these same obsessed bloggers proceeded to demonstrate exactly why the site is necessary, concocting a ludicrous, ugly smear against Michelle Obama based on inept lip-reading of a video.

The Washington Times’ senior editorial writer for foreign affairs James Robbins and right-wing bloggers are claiming that Michelle Obama likely disparaged the American flag during a ceremony commemorating the 9/11 attacks.

They have posted video of Michelle Obama whispering something inaudible to her husband during the ceremony and are speculating that she said “all this just for a flag,” “all that for a flag,” or “all of this for a damn flag.” (They disagree on exactly what she said.)

Blogger Jim Hoft, still in the running for the Dumbest Man on the Internet, didn’t even have the confidence to type the fake Michelle Obama quotation himself. He instead provided a link to an American Thinker post making the accusation for him.

The video the bloggers have posted has no audio of Michelle Obama at the relevant point, and their lip-reading is hindered by the fact that Michelle Obama’s lips disappear behind a partition at one point.

But they still believe Michelle Obama must have said something extremely controversial.

The point is that the Government is trying to tell us what we should and should not eat.

They have no right to do that.

They can tell us what we cannot sniff, inhale or drink, who we cannot marry (or even have sex with) and what we can and cannot listen to, but when it comes to the purity of our deep-fried side dishes, BACK OFF!!!

Americans aren't fat enough yet. We may be no. 1 in obesity already, but there's a dangerous obesity gap. Germans and Brits are gaining on us, their average citizen now being only 100 lbs lighter than the average American.

Seriously, Michelle Obama did nothing more than plant a garden and suggest Americans eat more sensibly because obesity is reducing both quantity and quality of life. This is the issue she chose (as Laura Bush chose illiteracy, and every first lady chooses something). I can't think of many issues more relevant and appropriate and dire for a First Lady to focus on.

But the funny thing is, if you read the story that's not what it's about at all

The story is actually about Darden restaurants (a private corporation) making their own choice to provide healthier options to their customers along with no longer offering fries with kids meals unless the parents requested them. Michelle Obama praised that move at a speaking event but it was in no way mandated through government fiat.

And this story, about a private corporation doing something of their own accord, leads to a picture of Michelle Obama with the headline NO FRIES FOR YOU!

49 lawhawk  Thu, Sep 15, 2011 1:44:13pm

Darden could get to those targets in one easy step, but that would be seen as going cheap.

It's called portion control. Reduce the portion size of those oversized meals by 10% and you've got your targets right there.

Who needs to eat an entire pound of pasta in a single sitting? That's several times the size of a recommended meal. But if you don't give oversized portions, you're seen as cheap and not a value compared to other offerings.

There are ways to fight that - reducing the size of the plates and/or utensils slightly gives the illusion of more food on the plate, even though you've given less.

But the illusion of value seems to trump the costs - and people individually decided that they would rather get those oversized portions (or doggy bag the remainders).

Nattering nabobbing of negativity is easily done. It's an awful worldview though.

I found something on the level of GOP science, fact checking etc... Truly something for the tinfoil hat crowd...

I haven't giggled this much in a while:

EHM QUANTUM SCIENCE PENDANT BLUE CRYSTAL POWER RINGED

It's only $18.94!

How Does EHM Nano Quantum Scalar Energy Pendant Help?

Nano Quantum Science Scalar Energy Pendant is created from lava based particles re-combined using Nano-fusion technology into a compound. The 76 minerals in the lava help promote instant strength, improve flexibility, better balance, protection from EMF (electromagnetic frequencies) and energize water. It is important to note that the energy that these products have can last for a minimum of 50 years!

Scalar Energy’s expansive and circular movement offers a field of protective shield around the body. This protective shield removes and cancels the effects of man-made frequencies (60 HZ) on the human body. This is achieved by enhancing the body’s natural defenses against the damaging radiations coming from the various household and industrial appliances that surround us...

Now if only they had a vector energy pendant, my day would be made.

Note... Energy is defined as a scalar... That is why that is funny.

Vadum: Obama's Jobs Bill Could Give 'Un-American' ACORN $15 Billion To Help Poor People Vote

A non-existent organization that previously helped poor people "destroy the country" by voting could get up $15 billion in taxpayer money under Obama's jobs bill, according to conservative columnist Matthew Vadum.

Vadum, who previously wrote that it was "profoundly antisocial and un-American to empower the nonproductive segments of the population to destroy the country," writes that a draft version of the jobs bill "makes ACORN, Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America (NACA), and a phalanx of leftist groups that regularly feed at the public trough eligible for funding."

"Radical groups like ACORN won't get the whole $15 billion, though, because they will have to compete with state and local governments for the money," he continues.

This is all, of course, contingent upon the fact that ACORN exists. Which it doesn't.

There really are people who think ACORN is still in business, aren't there?

Norway massacre: Killer filmed on CCTV before attacks

The man who confessed to killing 77 people in Norway in July was filmed by security cameras minutes before he launched the attacks, it has emerged.

Anders Behring Breivik, 32, is seen dressed in a police uniform with a gun as he walks away from a car after placing a bomb in Oslo.

Police confirmed the photo published on the ABC Nyheter website was authentic.

[…]

The photo of Mr Breivik came from monitoring cameras at government headquarters six minutes before the car bomb exploded, ABC Nyheter reports.

It said that no-one in the building raised the alarm.

Oslo police district spokesman Roar Hansen told the Associated Press news agency that the image had not been released by police, but was part of a confidential police report submitted to lawyers assisting relatives and survivors of the 22 July attack

The Nano Energy Wand looks like an ordinary pen, but it's not. This futuristic healing tool contains a special combination of granulated minerals and crystals fused and structurally bonded together at a molecular level to resonate at Zero-Point Energy, encapsulated within a 316 Stainless Steel pen sized casing. Based on the zero-point energy principle, the nano wand works on individual cells, balancing the body's chi/energy and speeding up the healing process; targeting the immune and nervous systems. The special crystals in the Nano Wand have powerful healing qualities and are energy amplifiers that can absorb, store, release and regulate energy.

Purported mechanisms of action

Perhaps the most common suggested mechanism is that magnets might improve blood flow in underlying tissues. The field surrounding magnet therapy devices is far too weak and falls off with distance far too quickly to appreciably affect hemoglobin, other blood components, muscle tissue, bones, blood vessels, or organs.[1][9] A 1991 study on humans of static field strengths up to 1 T found no effect on local blood flow.[4][10] Tissue oxygenation is similarly unaffected.[9] Some practitioners claim that the magnets can restore the body's theorized "electromagnetic energy balance", but no such balance is medically recognized. Even in the magnetic fields used in magnetic resonance imaging, which are many times stronger, none of the claimed effects are observed.[11]

Breivik trial to be held behind closed doors

The trial of Anders Breivik, who has admitted to killing 77 people in Norway during twin attacks, will be held behind closed doors, court officials said on Thursday.

"According to the district court's decision, entry to the trial will be closed for journalists, as well as relatives of the victims and survivors of the attacks," the Norwegian HPK TV channel said, citing the Oslo court where Breivik will stand trial on September 19.

It also cited the "extraordinary" nature of the charges against Breivik, who has said that while he carried out the July 22 attacks, he does not consider himself guilty. He says his killing spree was a "wake-up call" to the dangers of multiculturalism.

The court said it had gone back on an earlier decision to allow limited access to the trial for media and relatives over fears that Breivik may not have been acting alone and that an open trial could threaten the prosecution's case.

Nano energy is nothing but smoke and mirrors. Violet Rays are the tried and true healing device of the future!

A typical violet ray device consisted of an ungrounded electrical control box that controlled the interrupter and which housed the magneto coil, and an attached bakelite or other handle housing which contained the high voltage coil and an insertion port for attachments. Glass evacuated tubes of varying shapes and for different therapeutic uses could be inserted into the bakelite handle to apply the resulting current to different parts of the body.

Violet ray treatments were said to cure everything from lumbago to carbuncles. From an antique Master Violet Ray manual c. 1920 comes this treatment advice: Brain Fog - Use Applicator No. I over forehead and eyes. Also treat the back of head and neck with strong current in direct contact with the skin. Treat the spine and hold the electrode in the hand. Ozone inhalations for about four minutes are also of importance.

I think that is mostly due to this:

A lower Oslo court said Monday it did not see how the suspect's presence in public would "complicate the case by divulging elements that would harm the inquiry."

But police, who have previously asked for closed hearings out of concern that Behring Breivik might try to communicate with any possible accomplices, had appealed the decision.

EHM BIO DISC
Scalar Energy Water Quantum Science Disk
From EHM the trusted name for Scaler products

What is an EHM Bio Disc?

How to Use Bio Disc?

1. DRINK THE WATER

The very first thing to do with your BioDisc is to treat some tap water to bio-energise it for drinking. Allow the tap water to gently run over the concave surface of the disc and into a container to be stored for drinking. The water passes through the energy field produced by the BioDisc and is instantly bio-energised with life force energy. Chlorine and other chemicals that may be present in the water are now placed in “quantum suspension” and can no longer harm your body. A one or two litre jug with a lid is ideal for water storage. Drink at least two litres of bio-energised water every day.

2. SET UP A HEALING LIFE FORCE ENERGY FIELD UNDER YOUR BED

Use the BioDisc to bio-energise some more water and fill four small plastic water bottles with the bio-energised water and place them under each corner of your bed. It doesn’t matter if they lie on their side just under the bed or stand beside each corner of the bed. The effect of placing the bottles under each corner sets up a gentle energy field that your body absorbs during sleep. Most people find that their sleep becomes very restful from the very first night the energy field is set up. If you are travelling, just repeat this process in your room or place the BioDisc under the bed for the night rather than carry the bottles of water. Remember to retrieve the disc from under the bed on the next day.

There is a reason that Norwegian cuisine has not conquered the world.

(Or Danish, or English, or Scottish...is it my imagination or does the good food comes from warmer cultures?)

I think it's because warmer countries have more range in crops and stuff. I must be crazy though because I don't mind some English food. Like I love a good fish and chips with a beer but anyone can fry fish and make fries. I've really fallen in love with Indian cuisine myself. Was really bummed when the place I went for my birthday dinner last year was closed this year. Really good food.

Actually even if she said it, I am kind of with her on this...we do tend to over do the flag stuff in the USA...IMHO.

I've visited my wife, who currently lives in the States, several times over the last two years. That is one thing very different from Canada, the number of flags.

Like many Canadians I find it tends to make me go "WTF?" There's something rather over the top about the idolatry of the flag that causes me a little dissociation. I can't really fathom it.

Lower taxes but only for millionaires....
Boehner: No tax hikes for super committee

House Speaker John Boehner drew a line in the sand on taxes on Thursday, saying that a special debt committee tasked with cutting at least $1.2 trillion from federal deficits shouldn't consider tax hikes.

"Tax increases, I think, are off the table," Boehner said in a speech to the Economic Club of Washington, D.C. "It's a very simple equation. Tax increases destroy jobs. And the Joint Committee is a jobs committee. Its mission is to reduce the deficit that is threatening job creation in our country."
....
But he also hit the president on his proposal to carve out additional tax breaks for small businesses, a policy many Republicans agree with.

"It strikes me as odd that at a time when it's clear that the tax code needs to be fundamentally reformed, the first instinct out of Washington is to come up with a host of new tax credits that make the tax code more complex," Boehner said.

Anything that helps the country in the long run hurts their electoral chances, so doing nothing is in their party's best interests. Sure, they're digging the hole that this country sits in even deeper, but hey, better that than doing something like...say...trying out Obama's proposals and actually seeing if they work.

Here's the Dems' options. Hopefully they choose the right one.

In that world, Republicans will be left with two choices: either give the Democrats a deal on the deficit and jobs -- and make no mistake, the White House would still jump at the chance to raise the Medicare eligibility age in return for a grand bargain -- or duke it out in the election. That’s the funny thing about ceasing to compromise in public. It can make it more likely that you actually get a compromise in private.

I think it's all up to the GOP. Obama can't play hardball with them, The best he can do is offer them a comprimise which they won;t accept. Unless this results in a sound thumping in the next election the wingnuts are going to consider this a victory. I'm not very optimistic.

re: #219 Killgore Trout

I think it's all up to the GOP. Obama can't play hardball with them, The best he can do is offer them a comprimise which they won;t accept. Unless this results in a sound thumping in the next election the wingnuts are going to consider this a victory. I'm not very optimistic.

The situation's been set up where, one way or another, they get a win. Either Obama accepts the Super Committee's final deal, which is likely to be heavily slanted towards cuts that are aimed at programs near and dear to the Dem Party. OR he balks at it, the deal dies, and the automatic budgetary cuts kick in.

Either way, the GOP gets cuts, it just depends on whether they get to harp on them or get to dance the jig over the rotting corpse of our national economy while wiping crocodile tears away over how much damage has been done by Obama's choice.

Try this

get a large glass dispenser, like you would see at a lemonaid stand

Get a whole fresh pineapple

Cut it into bite size pieces and put it in the container
Add 2 bottles of your favorite Vodka

chill at LEAST 24 hours

Bar in Boston useed to call them a Stoly Doly

Make sure you eat the pineapple ,,, OMG!!

BTW, made it out to the Airport today to look at/tour the B-17 and B-25 Bombers on display. I already had alot of respect for the Men who served on board these Aircraft, but was under the impression they were much, much larger. My respect for these men increased 10 fold after being on them.

Those things were/are frigging Sardine cans. Small ones at that.

We also got a bonus. 2 FA-18 on their way to Ca. for transfer to the Austrailian Air Force landed to refuel. They parked them close to the Bombers. They easily matched the B-25 in size and were almost a large as the B-17.

Ayep. Because if either set of cuts go into place by year's end, and then the economy improves in the coming year, what does the GOP do? That's right, take credit for the economic growth that their austerity measures, which they dragged Obama kicking and screaming into agreeing to, has brought forth. And declare that, if such "small cuts" can produce such prosperity, why dismantling whole sections of the government (DOE, Education, EPA, OSHA, etc) could no doubt reap even greater yields.

My 98-year-old aunt, the extended family matriarch, passed away a couple days ago.

She had a stroke late last week, but even that couldn't stop the tough-as-nails buzzard (and I'm using "buzzard" in the fondest possible sense, here). A tiny thing; certainly no more than 5' 0", she still shoveled her own sidewalk up until about 10 years ago. She raised a parcel of good kids; not a troublemaker in the bunch.

The doctors treating her said that she would get past this, and they were already working on an exercise and strength-training plan, insisting she would be able to recover.

At which point she -- well, she just stopped eating.

I wasn't there with the immediate family, but the story as relayed to me was that she felt she had a long and happy life, and she simply did not want to be a burden on her children any more.

She was a devout Catholic, which makes the decision to abandon sustenance even more curious.

I confess to having stopped believing in any literal version of heaven or hell a long time ago, but it's for people like her that I wouldn't mind being proven wrong.

Proof was in the pudding. If a major rabbi were to come out and say suddenly that he was withdrawing from a yeshiva because they kept insisting that pig was not kosher, there are really only three possibilities.

They are, G-d forbid:

1. His family were held hostage and he was being black-mailed.
2. He went crazy.
3. He sold out.

I don't know which is worse in that hypothetical case. But in the case of Ivar, it is apparent that he sold out, and it is just as terrible.

So if some wingnut goes and tries to make noise about this, just let them know that yes, the tragedy is that some scientists can be bought. Especially right wing ones.

What disgusted me the most was nobody, not Paul, not any of the other candidates, not even Wolf seemed to express disgust or chastise the ghouls in the crowd who were calling out "Yeah!" to letting an uninsured man die if unable to pay his medical bills.

At this point, I honestly wonder if there is any depth to which these people will not sink. I have no doubt that, if asked if they'd abolish the laws that require ERs to take emergency cases, regardless of ability to pay, they'd cheer it along.

Also, fried fish was brough to Britain by Portuguese Jews--it's actually as much a 'brought' dish as curry, just a few hundred years earlier.

I don't quite "get" why folks get all discombobulated because some folks like to fly a flag (or two or three). None 'o their bidness. Really.

Custom of the nation, I think, more than anything.

Of course, there are people who are justly allergic to displays of nationalism. I still recall the nauseated, slightly panicked expression on the face of some German classmates in grad school, after a few other Americans and I had demonstrated the Pledge of Allegiance. They didn't actually back away, but they clearly didn't want any jingoism to get on them.
