Right Wing Blogs in Massive Fail Mode Again

Or, the lamentations of the wingnuts
Wingnuts • Views: 31,434

How embarrassing for the entire right wing blogosphere.

They worked so very hard to spin the Virginia uterus inspection bill, even denying that trans-vaginal ultrasounds were mandated at all. A few examples from the wingnut echo chamber:

Ed Schultz Falsely States Transvaginal Ultrasounds Are Mandated in VA Law - Big Journalism
Weasel Zippers » Blog Archive » Study: 99% Of Abortion Clinics Perform Ultrasounds Prior To Performing An Abortion…
The Left’s outrageous outrage at a proposal to require ultrasounds before abortion « Hot Air
Dahlia Lithwick Hates Medical Research | RedState
Dahlia Lithwick’s Sonogram Lie Implodes | RedState

And then, Gov. Bob McDonnell goes and blows their whole flimsy boat of rationalizations right out of the water by backing down and amending the bill to exclude invasive ultrasounds.

How very, very embarrassing. If they were capable of embarrassment, that is.

Here’s a pre-debate thread to savor the lamentations of the wingnuts.

I like the bills Democrats are offering in response, such as banning vasectomies for men. They should push them hard. Ban condoms too.

3 Targetpractice  Wed, Feb 22, 2012 2:53:15pm

They'll just have to console themselves with the fact that the bill will still get through with the slut-shaming now simply "optional."

4 Only The Lurker Knows  Wed, Feb 22, 2012 2:54:38pm

But they left everything else in the bill unchanged. Win/Win for the theocrats.

No, he'd have been out of the running if he'd simply refused to pass the bill totally. Instead, he's just allowed the Republicans to put a fig leaf on it by saying that it's now "optional," letting them claim that the outrage is now moot and the bill should move forward.

I think it's Viagra that should be banned. As others have noted, those who think any conception is God's will shouldn't question God's will in preventing it -- whatever the method.

House GOP Vote Against Keeping Keystone XL Oil In America

Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) offered an amendment to the bill during the Feb. 15 vote, giving the House a chance to “ensure that if the Keystone XL pipeline is built, the oil that it transports to the Gulf of Mexico and the fuels made from that oil remain in this country to benefit Americans.” But the amendment failed 173-254.

Not surprisingly, the 254 members who voted against the amendment have collected seven times more total campaign cash from oil and gas interests. The 254 members (230 Republicans) took in $37.3 million in career campaign contributions from oil and gas companies and executives.

On average, each member who voted against banning exports collected $146,808 from the oil and gas industry. This is contrasted with the $5.2 million total for the 173 in favor (9 Republicans) of the export ban – or an average of $29,951. In other words, legislators who want to export refined gasoline and diesel from oil sands received five times more oil money than the legislators who want to keep these fuels here.

That's because Keystone XL isn't for our benefit, it's for TransCanada's. The pipeline is due to the inconvenience of 11 states being between them and the refineries they want to export out of to the rest of the globe.

Occupy Wall Street Marcher Brought Gun to Courthouse

An Occupy Wall Street protester was arrested for trying to bring a Colt .45 handgun and five rounds of ammunition through security at Manhattan Criminal Court Wednesday, sources said.
Court officers collared John Scott Dekuyper, 52, at 100 Centre Street, at 9 a.m. and charged him with criminal possession of a weapon.

Sources said that Dekuyper, of Delaware, had gone to the wrong courthouse for an appearance in his grand larceny, resisting arrest and government obstruction case stemming from an Oct. 15 protest march in Times Square.

Right wing terrorism!
Lawmakers receive threatening letters

A handful of lawmakers have received threatening letters in the last few days with an unidentified white powdery substance and more may be on the way, law enforcement officials told CBS News Wednesday.

At least one lawmaker from Wisconsin and a senator from Indiana have received the letters at their district offices, with more expected to receive additional letters, the officials said.
....
"Although all letters received thus far have proved harmless, it is essential that we treat every piece of suspicious mail as if it may, in fact, be harmful," Gainer wrote in his memo to the Senate community.

The letters make vague complaints about too much money in politics and had a Portland, Oregon return address from an organization listed as "The MIB, LLC," a law enforcement official told CBS News.

China's Mao is considered a inhuman monster for killing some 35 million of his countrymen. There have been 55 million abortions over the the past 45 years in the US.

That' 55 million kids who never had the chance to grow up. If you had the ability to give each of them a choice - be put out of your misery to avoid a life of hell (maybe, maybe not), or, be given the chance to make what you can of your life, I would be each and every one of them would opt for a chance to experience life.

I haven't done a lot of research into this, but Utah has 5 refineries that could probably handle this oil. But then again, they don't have access to blue water ports to ship the refined product over seas where the money is. And that is the crux of the matter.

Tonight’s High-Stakes GOP Debate Could Also Be The Last

Wednesday night, the four remaining GOP presidential candidates gather in Mesa, Arizona for the 20th and what is possibly the last GOP debate.

It wasn’t meant to be this way. Originally, CNN had another debate scheduled for early March before Super Tuesday. But Mitt Romney backed out, quickly followed by Ron Paul, resulting in the debate’s cancellation. It’s completely unclear just how many contenders will be left after Super Tuesday, and whether Mitt Romney will have any incentive to continue to show up at debates.

It’s completely unclear just how many contenders will be left after Super Tuesday, and whether Mitt Romney will have any incentive to continue to show up at debates.

Debates don't really seem to be helping his campaign much, or at least not as much as SuperPACs carpet bombing the airwaves has.

China's Mao is considered a inhuman monster for killing some 35 million of his countrymen. There have been 55 million abortions over the the past 45 years in the US.

Yes. Abortions of fetuses that aren't sentient.

That' 55 million kids who never had the chance to grow up.

So are all the eggs that a woman ejects every time she menstruates. All you'd have to do is put some sperm in there with them, and they'd develop into a kid too.

If you had the ability to give each of them a choice

You can't give non-existent beings a choice.

- be put out of your misery to avoid a life of hell (maybe, maybe not), or, be given the chance to make what you can of your life, I would be each and every one of them would opt for a chance to experience life.

How do you manage to think about beings that don't exist?

I find it difficult.

You're right, they probably would. And their mothers, if they had to choose between a life of poverty and single-motherhood that would, more likely than not, kill one or both of them, or aborting their child and living to have more someday in the future - well, I think that choice is fairly obvious, but probably not to you.

Is there some official gradation of sins?

Masturbation is a sin.

Contraception is a sin.

Abortion is a sin.

Lusting after your neighbor's wife is a sin.

Now, I would say that depending on what stage of the pregnancy, an abortion has, perhaps, varying degrees of moral implications - but many Christians don't make such a distinction and oppose abortion merely because they believe that the bible, as the word of god, says it is a sin.

But they also believe that masturbating is a sin as stated by god him/herself in the bible.

So if playboy magazine has lead to at least 65 million incidents of masturbation, should Hugh Hefner be compared to Mao?

The bible-thumpers BELIEVE the bible says that. They're wrong. They also think the world is 8,000 years old and global warming is a myth, they're wrong about that too.

It's more embarrassing that they're wrong about what their own bible says, but a lot of bible-thumping Christians don't really read it, just fetishize it.

Here's a clue, as a gift since I'm feeling generous:

If you want fewer abortions, make birth control and emergency contraception cheap and freely available everywhere, and cover it in an insurance policy. Then educate people about their bodies and about birth control with legitimate, science-based information instead of religious nonsense about abstinence.

Fewer unplanned pregnancies = fewer abortions. Simple as that.

Not explicitly. Depends entirely on how you define a person. They believe there are verses declaring the unborn persons. I would argue there is also a passage in the Torah that implies that the unborn is not a person, since its killer did not get capital punishment. So basically it's usual - whatever interpretation suits you.

Nope. I'm also not happy when I hear that someone had a kid that they can't afford to feed or educate or pay the medical bills of. Or that they had a kid and had to drop out of school. Etc.

Can you explain why, if your concern is these potential babies, you're not impregnating women every time you can? Every sperm you create has unique DNA-- if it doesn't meet up with an egg, that potential human being is lost to us forever. Obviously, at most all you can hope for is one potential human per sexual act, but you're at least doing that, right? You're causing at least one pregnancy a day?

So where is the mandatory law for divorce when a woman is no longer capable of having a child for any reason. If she is barren you must divorce her and marry a fertile woman.

Same goes for a woman married to an infertile male. And the infertile cannot get married or have sex because that is sinful.

I haven't done a lot of research into this, but Utah has 5 refineries that could probably handle this oil. I suspect there are States closer to the Canadian border than Texas that also have refineries as well. But then again, they don't have access to blue water ports to ship the refined product over seas where the money is. And that is the crux of the matter.

We have a frikkin upgrader here in Sask. We should be refining it and then shipping it.

The dude is mailing harmless powdery substances, not leaving nailbombs at an MLK march.

Which is why including both anarchists and typical democrats in the label 'left' is silly.

This reminds me of last year, when the Arizona state legislature passed a birther bill, mandating that candidates for President of the United States had to submit proof of their birth, before they would be allowed on the ballot in Arizona. (The bill was ridiculous on its face; the federal Constitution already mandates that the President must be a natural-born US citizen.) Anyway, it was shameful that the Arizona state legislature actually passed the bill. But then Governor Jan Brewer vetoed it.

This was only a few months after Obama came to Arizona in the aftermath of the Gabrielle Giffords shooting. He gave a very moving speech at the University of Arizona; Governor Brewer was present. I sometimes wonder if she would have vetoed the birther bill, had she not personally met Obama a few months before, at a ceremony that promoted healing and reconciliation (and by far the worst of all, memorialized that poor 9-year-old girl who died). Signing the birther bill would have been a bridge too far for her, and I'm glad for that.

This is one indicator of the health of our system of government: the checks and balances. Today, the Governor of Virginia "checked and balanced" the Virginia State Legislature. Yes, there's plenty of bad right-wing craziness in Virginia, but we're all lucky that one Republican, the Governor, decided not to cross the line into the crazy side of the room.

Or take this:

[Link: en.wikipedia.org...]

Through the years as she continued to expose the Church, Paulette Cooper was the target not only of litigation but of several harassment campaigns including a Scientology campaign known as Operation Freakout, the goal of which was to deter Cooper from criticism of Scientology by having her "incarcerated in a mental institution or jail or at least to hit her so hard that she drops her attacks."[4] In a previous campaign titled Operation Dynamite[5] the church sent itself forged bomb threats, purportedly from Cooper, using her typewriter and paper with her fingerprints on it; further plans included bomb threats to be sent to Henry Kissinger. The Church's campaign was discovered when the FBI raided Scientology offices in 1977 and recovered documents relating to the operation.[6] The Church finally agreed to an out-of-court settlement with Cooper in 1985.[7]

Nonsense, says KT. Never happened! Anonymous people don't ever pretend to be someone else! To suggest anything else is to enter the [Theremin wail] Alex Jones zone!

Disagree with your thoughts on Planned Parenthood. If I was running it, I would want to capture every potential customer as early as possible. I would be in the schools doing just what you suggest. I would want to increase my target market to every available girl / woman I possible can reach. I would extoll the virtues of all the services I can provide, especially for preventative health, and of course, contraception and family planning, and heaven forbid, for abortion (whispered softly) if ever necessary.

Obviously the poor and minorities would be the markets I would probably have the greatest success, and once I have them tip-toeing through the door, I would do everything possible to keep them customers for life.

And the more I can milk the government for funding, the more I would promote the great services we perform for all women. What's not to like about this business plan - it's currently extremely successful.

I think it's the 'trolling with feeling'. I don't know if there's a word for it, really. He sounds like the kind of asshole who really does have a fucked up view of women, but he knows his arguments are pathetic and is just trying to get a rise out of people.

I mean, he basically sounds like Brietbart.

Not from my perspective. Individual decisions are unique and personal, and circumstances such as rape or health issues could make abortion the primary choice. But then I look at the big picture and realize that 55 million abortions is one hell of a lot a potential people, many of whom could have contributed greatly to America. So many on the left would cheer this figure. I don't at all.

On the other hand, so many on the left go all weepy and teary-eyed when a convicted murderer/rapist/child molester is put to death. I don't.

Doesn't make sense, unless you have the ability to say an unborn child - a fetus - 1 month? 3 months? six months? eight months ... doesn't matter to many... is simply a piece of meat until "it" is actually born. Too many do. I have a different opinion.

Incorrect, we don't have to specify the exact moment, mainly because there *is* no single moment when a non-person becomes a person. But that doesn't mean it's a person all the way down. See the sorites paradox.

Why aren't you upset about all the potential people we missed out because you aren't impregnating women every day? Why don't they matter?

1 month? 3 months? six months? eight months ... doesn't matter to many...

There are very, very, very very, very few people on the pro-choice side who view a fetus at one month and eight months the same. So, this is just ignorance on your part-- or, again, trolling.

I'd say the people who it doesn't matter to are the ones who are against abortion of even a one month old fetus, and who view it no differently than murdering an actual living baby.

So, you've got your ass on backwards.

re: #233 Ming

Except that he didn't. In the face of the protests the legislators and governor worked up a minor back down while keeping the rest of the bill (and the bill itself) alive. It was a PR stunt to allay the commoners while they passed a bill that is still intended solely to throw up obstacles in the way of a woman seeking her legal right to get an abortion.
