Michele Bachmann: Obama Is Allowing the Muslim Brotherhood to Infiltrate the US Government

Pumping more fear into the right wing bloodstream
Wingnuts • Views: 25,378

In this whacked out fear-mongering clip from July, we see Michele Bachmann giving a speech at the extreme right wing Eagle Forum’s 2012 Leadership Summit, raving that the entire US government is being infiltrated by the Muslim Brotherhood — with the explicit approval of Barack Obama.

I keep asking this. Does Bachmann really believe stuff like this? Or is she being a manipulative demagogue knowing there is an element of American society that laps this shit up (the freaked out black helicopter crowd)?

34 Mostly sane, most of the time.  Thu, Oct 11, 2012 2:31:44pm

I am concerned about extremists influencing mosques.

And I am concerned about extremists influencing what used to be normal Christian churches. Especially those jerks who keep trying to convince parents that beating their kids in the name of "love" is the way to go.

I am definitely concerned about the White Nationalist movement, as well as the survivalist kooks.

Frankly, I'm concerned with anyone who is going to try to convince their followers that they should resort to violence in the name of their ideology.

Santorum: Gay marriage "will destroy and undermine the church in American more than any other movement"

Whats the downside?

Any other movement? Me thinks Rick forgot about religion being used to justify slavery and making citizens of other races second calss citizens. But oh no gay people getting married, the horror. To know that this man was Mitt Romney's biggest competitor for the Republican nomination really shows me how skewed that party's priorities and values are.

Shit, now I'm depressed. I was talking to two BMXers about a guy who wants to put on some kind of competition, and they said, "It'll be tough to have a competition with only four riders." I said, "What if he put on an exhibition and got riders to come here? Would that get more kids interested in riding?" The one I just installed a chain for said "No, everybody's addicted to meth now." I said, "That's no good, better to be addicted to a bike." He said, "That's what I'm doing."

69 Charles Johnson  Thu, Oct 11, 2012 3:09:30pm

Made some big improvements in the LGF Spy javascript code, that should make it more reliable. I'm finally starting to use some of the more advanced Ajax features of jQuery, to better handle the error cases when there are connection problems, or when a connection takes longer than expected. The LGF Spy's main loop now has a timeout that should gracefully handle errors without anything visible going on.

I made the same changes to the code that runs at five-second intervals on LGF if you're logged in, which does stuff like update the number of new comments, the Twitter counter, the page views, etc. in real time.

Been watching the logs and I have seen a few timeout errors in these scripts - they're now being handled without any ill effects.

I wonder sometimes if their Muslim Panic is a proxy panic. I've had wingers tell me about how the Muslims are going to breed so fast and take over the country and pass Sharia and make me wear a burka and outlaw Jesus and... I wonder if on some subconscious level this is really a displacement for the fact that Blacks and Hispanics actually are significant percentages of the population, and the Hispanics mostly aren't Protestant and the Black church is significantly different from the white version of Southern Baptist or Pentecostal or whatev, and in any case neither ethnicity votes right wing in major numbers.

Normally the VP debates don't count for much but after last week I think the debates may end up deciding the election. I think I'll tune in and see what happens.

To be clear, he didn't downding me, it was the main post. But still, I think one should be prepared to comment on one's dings.

Especially when it's a post involving the gop nominee heartily endorsing a vile, conspiracy spreading demagogue like Beck, a force as caustic and destructive to real political discourse as any in America, with the possible exception of Limbaugh. Few people do as much to divide the nation and provoke hysteria as Beck. But it's all OK to some partisans because otherwise their candidate might be harmed. Fuck civil discourse, go GOP extremism! Not to mention Romney endorsing Skousen himself.

In a 2007 radio interview, Romney said that he had not read The Making of America, but that it was "worth reading." Romney cited another Skousen book to explain Mormon theology regarding the second coming of Christ. In another radio interview that year, Romney recalled taking a class at BYU on the Bible taught by Skousen, whom he called "a brilliant man and a wonderful story teller."

If I had been a Romney supporter (hard to imagine, but...), what I know about Skousen and reading that quotation would make me an ex-Romney supporter. Maybe Dark is doing some serious thinking, and isn't ready to discuss it yet...

Skousen is a pretty odious figure as well. Back in the saner days of the GOP, it wouldn't have been necessary for a candidate to seek the approval of such extremists. But Romney made the cynical deal with the devil that was required to get his party's nod. Integrity!

Just a tad of displacement and projection there I'd say.

Let's just "pray the gay away" is the kind of anti-science view that's become pervasive on the right. AGW, homosexuality, biological evolution. Why trust modern science when we have a book that's thousands of years old that answers every question if you're willing to interpret it in just the "right" way?

He knows that it makes Jesus cry when two men are physically attracted to one another. So he's done the right thing by the Lord and pretended (not convincingly) to be cured.
