I know everybody fell all over themselves to pronounce Romney's concession speech "graceful," but that bit about praying for the President REALLY hit me the wrong way.
It sounds exactly like the parting shot used by fundamentalists when they can't win an argument about creationism -- "you're a godless monster in league with Satan, but I'll pray for you."
You know what? Fuck Mitt Romney's prayers, and fuck his condescending "I'll pray for the President and this country" line. After the dishonest race-baiting election campaign he ran, he needs to be praying for HIMSELF.

Then Romney said he was going to "pray" for the misguided (Muslim! Liberal! Godless!) president. And God save America.

Erick Erickson: Republican consultants swimming in cash like ‘Scrooge McDuck’
While reviewing the election results on Wednesday morning, CNN’s John Berman noted that Obama’s effort to get out the vote in Ohio proved that “ground game matters.”
“Republicans this time around said that they could match the Obama ground game,” CNN senior congressional correspondent Dana Bash pointed out. “And they didn’t.”
“It was a lot of hype on the Republican side,” Erickson agreed. “The problem is that you had a number of consultants in the Republican Party who decided, ‘We’re going to keep the data for ourselves, don’t you go set it up.’ What Barack Obama did successfully in 2008 is he told Democratic consultants in Washington, ‘You know what? We’re going to do this in Chicago, guys.’ And it worked. Republicans are going to have to start doing that.”
“It’s the D.C. GOP consultants are swimming around like Scrooge McDuck this morning. They spent the money and they got nothing to show for it.”

I really do love how Obama winning re-election brings out how nasty they are towards their fellow Americans. This idea that Obama supporters are a bunch of freeloaders and Romney ones the providers is so laughable. Considering that Romney won some of the poorest states in the union and Obama some of the most wealthy ones. Median income is six figures here in Loudoun and yet Obama the "socialist" won here by five percent which actually exceeded his state wide numbers. So yeah conservatives keep on telling us that only you work hard and us liberals don't know what work is.

From National Review, not linking because fuck them.
We’ve seen an important (though far from decisive) battle in the slow-motion civil war the nation is undergoing: The blue states want to secede not from America but from Americanism. They reject the American republic of God-fearing individuals in favor of the European ideal, which has only been government by aristocracy: either an aristocracy of birth or, nowadays, of ruling know-it-alls — of post-religious, globalist intellectuals (a.k.a. PORGIs). As I’ve said before — many others have too — you can’t graduate class after class after class of left-indoctrinated ignoramuses without paying the price. Last night was a down payment.
But we’ve won civil wars and preserved the Union before. We’ll do it again — if we face up to the fact that we need to replace our schools and colleges now; the grace period has lasted a generation, but it’s over. I know we can do it and I’m pretty sure we will do it. Americanism is too strong and brilliant and young to die.
Wait....who won the civil war again? Man, I'd have voted for PBO even if he completely tanked the economy just because the reactions from the morons in this country is just that awesome.

If you insist that you get to decide what a woman should do about her own insides, women are going to vote against you.
If you insist that non-whites should have extra hurdles for day to day activities, that result in DWB(lack or brown) being a reality, non-whites are going to vote against you.

National Organization For Marriage Claims ‘We Are Not Defeated,’ Ignoring Reality
Despite the fact that NOM was able to contribute a record amount to the campaigns (over $5.5 million), we were still heavily outspent, by a margin of at least four-to-one. We were fighting the entirety of the political establishment in most of the states, including sitting governors in three of the states who campaigned heavily for gay marriage. Our opponents and some in the media will attempt to portray the election results as a changing point in how Americans view gay marriage, but that is not the case. Americans remain strongly in favor of marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The election results reflect the political and funding advantages our opponents enjoyed in these very liberal states.

CNN panel to Obama: Appoint Romney as ‘secretary of business’
A CNN panel of journalists and other experts on Wednesday called on President Barack Obama to appoint former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney as the “secretary of business.”
CNN host Wolf Blitzer noted that Obama would need to name new cabinet members after being re-elected and it would be “a pretty good idea” to choose some Republicans.
“Look at what the president did last night in his speech,” Republican strategist Alex Castellanos remarked. “He said he was going to call Mitt Romney and talk about how to move forward together. That was incredibly generous and also incredibly smart politically.”
Blitzer suggested that Obama could “go bold” and pick someone like Romney as the secretary of Treasury.
Yeah, that will happen.

I derided the media polls for their assumption of what did, in fact happen: That blacks, Latinos, and young people would show up in the same numbers as they had in 2008. I was wrong. They did.
But the more proximate cause of my error was that I did not take full account of the impact of hurricane Sandy and of Governor Chris Christie’s bipartisan march through New Jersey arm in arm with President Obama. Not to mention Christe’s fawning promotion of Obama’s presidential leadership.
It made all the difference.

Industrial Society and Its Future begins with Kaczynski's assertion that "the Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race." The first sections of the text are devoted to discussion of the psychology of various groups—primarily leftists (a group he defines, in part as "hat[ing] science and rationality(paragraph 18 of his manuscript)")—and of the psychological consequences for individual life within the "industrial-technological system", which has robbed contemporary humans of their autonomy, diminished their rapport with nature, and forced them "to behave in ways that are increasingly remote from the natural pattern of human behavior." The later sections speculate about the future evolution of this system, arguing that it will inevitably lead to the end of human freedom, call for a "revolution against technology", and attempt to indicate how that might be accomplished.
...
He concludes by noting that his manifesto has "portrayed leftism in its modern form as a phenomenon peculiar to our time and as a symptom of the disruption of the power process" but that he is "not in a position to assert confidently that no such movements have existed prior to modern leftism" and says that "[t]his is a significant question to which historians ought to give their attention.

This article is hilarious. It goes into the Romney campaign's incredibly ignorant reliance on their super-duper super-secret PROJECT ORCA!!!!!
Some Romney aides were surprised, too, especially since they had put an enormous amount of effort into tracking the hour-by-hour whims of the electorate. In recent weeks the campaign came up with a super-secret, super-duper vote-monitoring system that was dubbed Project Orca. ... Early in the evening, one aide said that, as of 4 p.m., Orca still projected a Romney victory of somewhere between 290 and 300 electoral votes. Obviously that didn't happen. Later, another aide said Orca had pretty much crashed in the heat of the action. 'Somebody said Orca is lying on the beach with a harpoon in it,' said the aide.
Wow.....who would have thought a ground game focused on actual human-to-human contact would be superior to one that that focuses on which households need a millionth robo-call to get them to vote for you?

What exactly makes Ted Kaczynski a "leftist terrorist?" He has a lot more in common with right wing terrorists - a survivalist who wanted to return to a pre-technological civilization. That's nothing like any "leftist" ideology I've ever heard of.
Ted Kaczynski was a follower of Jacques Ellul who was a Christian Anarchist.
Kaczynski has babbled about leftism:
In his opening and closing sections, Kaczynski addresses Leftism as a movement and analyzes the psychology of leftists, arguing that they are "True Believers in Eric Hoffer's sense" who participate in a powerful social movement to compensate for their lack of personal power. He further claims that leftism as a movement is led by a particular minority of leftists whom he calls "oversocialized":
The moral code of our society is so demanding that no one can think, feel and act in a completely moral way. [...] Some people are so highly socialized that the attempt to think, feel and act morally imposes a severe burden on them. In order to avoid feelings of guilt, they continually have to deceive themselves about their own motives and find moral explanations for feelings and actions that in reality have a non-moral origin. We use the term "oversocialized" to describe such people.
He criticizes leftists as being "oversocialized." This quote of his doesn't seem "leftist" by any means:
"science marches on blindly, without regard to the real welfare of the human race or to any other standard, obedient only to the psychological needs of the scientists and of the government officials and corporation executives who provide the funds for research."

When he said that, I remarked to my husband that I had liked Ann less and less as we got to know her better. I appreciate that Mitt loves her deeply and that's just great, but First Lady? She'd be awful.
Yes, I have a feeling she is a good wife & mother, and probably a good person. She just doesn't have the ability to be a public figure.

The Freepers are being their usual calm, rational selves:
Exit polls: Obama's winning coalition of women and nonwhites
I was in Boston during the first day of the 2004 convention. I remember seeing a white female with a button which read “Women and minorities unite” on her clothing. And she likely voted for John Kerry. Twisted people won last night.
---the number of men voting in elections has been declining for years.
According to CNN, there have been 12 consecutive elections since 1964 where women outnumbered men voters.
Republican women can’t do this alone. Why aren’t the men voting?
---Time to turn back the clock when it comes to voting rights.
Yes, I’m perfectly serious.
---The establishment will look at the exit polls and conclude that the next republican nominee should be pro-choice, pro-amnesty to cut into this Dem majority. Things will likely get much worse before they get better.
---The numbers that Bill Bennett had on his show this morning were that Obama got 74% of the Asian vote and 69% of the Hispanic vote. That is an enormous problem for the GOP in the future. Demographics is destiny...
---Women, blacks and foreigners will line their death nest with the remnants of a great civilization. They can have it. Better dead than red.
---The problem isn’t women so much as the problem is single women, who want the government to be there to take care of them instead of the husband they don’t have. I think Romney actually won married women but lost single women by a huge margin.
---America is over
it was fun while it lasted
---When Romney stated that there was no sense in working to get the vote of the 47% he was exactly right.
Blacks , Hispanics, entitlement seekers and non-taxpayers were the 47% and they carried Obama. White women put him over the top. Not married White women mind you, but Lesbians, feminists, whores who wanted their birth control and abortions paid for, Young girls who don’t know any better. Married women should know better, and I believe they do.
It goes on and on.

Seeing a lot of talk now about movement to impeach Obama over Benghazi. If the GOP actually spends more than an hour discussing this, the mid term elections will result in Obama having House and Senate. I think independent's have no patience or appetite for anything other than absolute focus on the fiscal cliff and the economy. I believe they will be punished severely for any attempt to divert resources and attention away from those ends.

It needs to be reformed. The Senate was not expected to be forced to run as a supermajority when handling legislation.
I agree but I don't think it's going to happen. Dem leadership, despite the noise to appease the base, is probably going to want to leave it the way it is. I don't expect a serious push for filibusterer reform, campaign finance reform or anything else that can be exploited by either side. If it wasn't for her battle with MS I'd bet real money the campaign advisers would have locked her up in a deep dungeon for the entire election.
I would love to see her get some coaching and become a spokesperson for those with MS. I'd like to see her use her horses to further Horse Therapy for those with disabilities --like pushing for Obamacare to cover such therapies. (if it already doesn't--who knows what is and isn't in that a bill--I've only read the first few pages).
She could be a real champion in that area.

So, what happens with Christie now. There seems to be a vocal component within his party and a large number of conservatives who blame him for Obama winning re-election. Now on the plus side for him, I think he will definitely win re-election as governor but man he's going to be like Huntsman this year if the Obama hatred that dominates Republican activists' minds if he runs in 2016. I have to say most of 2016's list of candidates depends on what happens for the next 4 years. If things are bad in 2015, look for a hardcore conservative list of primary candidates like we saw this year. A typical fire-breathing moron who will be against the 20-21st centuries.

It's funny how things happen. David McCullough, the great historian was on Sixty Minutes on Sunday night talking about history and stuff. He talks about how he went to bed before the 1948 election was called and he asked his Dad who won and his Dad said with disappointment Truman. But McCullough talked about how like 30 years later, he was talking with his Dad and his Dad was doing the usual "The country's going to hell" routine and pined for "Old Harry." Really a great interview. McCullough's an awesome historian.

GOP needs more people like that. People which we can philosophically disagree with but work together. That mindset is something the GOP has been missing since they started to embrace the Tea Party. Republicans like Nixon, Ford, the Bushes, and even Reagan realized that there was a place for government. They preferred it be low but they saw it had a place.

And hell in extreme cases like Lindburgh and Ford, sympathetic to Hitler. Fascism and Nazism aren't left wing ideologies.
You read it correctly. Back in the day, before the Internet had all these bells and whistles, I used to be a regular reader of alt.atheism, a newsgroup inundated with rabid fundamentalists, 99.9999999% Christian variety. He need not love "the left," but a rational person would eventually surmise that an overwhelming majority of "the left" are not advocates of such horrible violence.
