Obama’s Address to His Staff on Tuesday Night: “I’m Really Proud of All of You”

A tale of two campaigns
Politics • Views: 35,771

Mitt Romney pulled all the credit cards and made his campaign staff pay for their own rides home on Tuesday evening.

BOSTON — From the moment Mitt Romney stepped off stage Tuesday night, having just delivered a brief concession speech he wrote only that evening, the massive infrastructure surrounding his campaign quickly began to disassemble itself.

Aides taking cabs home late that night got rude awakenings when they found the credit cards linked to the campaign no longer worked.

President Obama also had a message for his staff, with a slightly different tone.

But seriously, this video is the real man and what he's about. He's long won me over as a person and leader even if I have policy disagreements.

Cue the whining "look he's giving stuff away already" in 3. .2. .1 because they don't recognize a gracious, heartfelt thank you

Seriously, I know my uncle would say that, and mean it. . .

Very much so. He was gracious and classy, as usual.

Agreed, and I love the fact he thanked them, unlike He Who Shall Not Be Named, who kicked his staff to the curb in a heartbeat. . .dammn and people really thought he'd be this awesome caring president??? Feh!

Obama showed them class, Mitt showed them the door. Mitt dropped a "Bain" on his aides. Nice. Move. Dick.

It's almost comical that the Romney campaign shut down all their staff support within hours of the defeat.

i heard that the obama ground game org was resident in places like ohio for five years, that is it was in continuous operation from the beginning of the 2008 campaign

but where was it in 2010?

we need the GOTV org to stay in operation even harder for those fucking midterms, especially since a potentially very hairy one is coming up in 2014

NO MORE 1994s or 2010s!!! NO PASERAN!

If you read the Ace of Spades (yeah, I know) blog post that David Corn links to, they were pretty much ignoring their GOTV volunteers and/or were so disorganized that a lot of those volunteers never got to do any groundwork on Election Day at all.

I saw in Forbes that the loss didn't mean everything had to be shut down, that invoices will still need to be paid, and the process could take awhile, so I believe you're on to something, it wasn't something he did after making his speech, the kill switch was installed earlier than that.

27 allegro  Thu, Nov 8, 2012 6:08:30pm

I applaud the aware American public for seeing the very clear differences between these two men and their visions for this country. Obama, tearfully thanking his hard-working team with words of encouragement for their future successes. Romney, making an escape in the backseat of his kid's car after fucking over his team without even saying thanks or paying their cab fare home.

This is all the pundits have to see when they examine the race. It sums up the entire election and the differences between the two candidates pretty well.

I just found out what the blank votes in PR were. Apparently, the PPD and the governor-elect told people to leave it blank as a statement that Puerto Rico likes the Status Quo.

A) A majority don't, with 54-55% wanting to change in someway and

B) The Blank Votes were still about 20% behind statehood.

So, what we learned was that the PPD is quite willing to throw a massive wrench into Democracy. Too bad Blank Ballots don't count. Or, at least they shouldn't.

Cue the whining "look he's giving stuff away already"

Earlier tonight, Laura Ingraham was sitting on for Bill O'Reilly on Fox, arguing with Juan Williams over whether the GOP should moderate its message. Williams was pointing out the magnitude of the Republican loss among non-white, non-male voters. She insisted that staying as conservative as possible was the right course, arguing that if they started to 'give things away' they would always be outbid by the Democrats.

Let's put an end to the myth of "Romney the Businessman". He was in the financial sector. And, to be fair, his campaign was well funded.

As for running it, well, that's what employees are for, right? And when they failed to meet key performance metrics on Nov 6, he fired them and liquidated the company. Classic Romney.

From the description, the Romney approach to campaigning was much like the Bain approach to steel-making at GST: Make a lot of lofty promises and goals, fill all the important positions by yes-men without the first clue how to do anything, put far too much on the plate than can be handled, and then the whole thing augurs into the ground, fire everybody and make a break for the doors.

It doesn't bug me, it just puts an exclamation point on something she mentioned twice that I know of during the campaign. When asked about her greatest concerns should Mitt win the election, she answered that she feared for his mental health. It didn't seem to get much press attention but it freaked me out because I believed her. Scurrying Mitt away by tucking him the back seat of the car... creepy image.

Now imagine how well this would work as foreign policy. A Romney administration would probably have been so incompetent and obnoxious world wide that their first term accomplishments would include sparking a second communist revolution in Russia, followed promptly by World War III.

What does the PPD believe in exactly? Continuing to have Puerto Rico in the no mans land between state and nation? Unable to govern itself or get the support the states do? What exactly do they want to happen?

I can't think of a legitimate argument against. Both D and R platforms support PR statehood if desired by the people of PR. It will be amusing to see the Republicans backtrack on this. Reid should get this on the Senate agenda for the lame duck session.

They missed their chance back in the 50's to 80's. Doesn't matter what they vote for. Congress won't vote them in. Period. They don't bring anything to the table this decade. That's just my opinion.

He'll have to. Because the next governor (who won by a margin that would trigger recounts in some states) said he will ignore the results of the referendum.

Of course, he is the fuck responsible for the blank ballots. Told people to vote to that to show Status Quo is good. Which, for anyone watching the state of Puerto Rico, know is bullshit.
