Rush Limbaugh on How to Stop Abortion: “Require That Each One Occur With a Gun”

WTF
Wingnuts • Views: 28,478

Leave it to Rush Limbaugh to come up with the sickest, weirdest right wing take on the gun control debate.

CALLER: …on any given day in Americans [sic], more than 3,000 children are killed from abortion and we have no problems with that. We’re OK with that. It’s not an issue.

So you can’t spend 40 years of telling people and telling children that if I make a mistake, if something comes up and this child I don’t want is in the way of my future and in the way of me graduating high school, is in the way of me going to college, is [in] the way of me being happy, is in the way of whatever I want out of life, that it’s OK for me to kill the baby, but later on when I become a disgruntled employee, when I become an unhappy student at school because children are bullying me, that I want to eliminate them and get them out of the way? It’s the same concept.

LIMBAUGH: Well, it’s a good point. You know how to stop abortion? Require that each one occur with a gun.

This is me, just shaking my head.

Limbaugh was on a hate roll today; he also referred to the children at Obama’s news conference on gun violence as “human shields.”

First of all, got to love the sound of his labored breathing in that first clip.

Second of all, I don’t want to deny his “free speech”…but I do actively seek to inform his sponsors that they will never get my business as long as they support this man.

There are plenty of sponsors who don’t care about my business (Tom Ridge’s Lifelock and the makers of herbal sexual enhancements, whatever those are), his speech will be just as free going forward with them exclusively. Last time I checked, “free speech” was not synonymous with Rush and Premiere Radio Network making a fortune.

Te’o has released a statement.

“This is incredibly embarrassing to talk about, but over an extended period of time, I developed an emotional relationship with a woman I met online. We maintained what I thought to be an authentic relationship by communicating frequently online and on the phone, and I grew to care deeply about her. “To realize that I was the victim of what was apparently someone’s sick joke and constant lies was, and is, painful and humiliating. “It further pains me that the grief I felt and the sympathies expressed to me at the time of my grandmother’s death in September were in any way deepened by what I believed to be another significant loss in my life. “I am enormously grateful for the support of my family, friends and Notre Dame fans throughout this year. To think that I shared with them my happiness about my relationship and details that I thought to be true about her just makes me sick. I hope that people can understand how trying and confusing this whole experience has been. “In retrospect, I obviously should have been much more cautious. If anything good comes of this, I hope it is that others will be far more guarded when they engage with people online than I was. “Fortunately, I have many wonderful things in my life, and I’m looking forward to putting this painful experience behind me as I focus on preparing for the NFL Draft.”

Gun rights supporters called to state Capitols

A grass-roots effort is calling on gun rights supporters to gather on state Capitol building grounds nationwide Saturday to protest proposals for more gun-control measures.

The group, called Guns Across America, wants the “peaceful, family-oriented,” protests to occur at noon local time, said Eric Reed, the Texas resident who came up with the idea two weeks ago.

“We are hoping law-abiding citizens who value their right to bear arms will get more involved at the local, state and federal levels,” he said. “When this most recent push for more gun-control measures started, I thought that law-abiding gun owners need to do something. Then I realized I was part of the problem, because I wasn’t involved in doing anything to protect the Second Amendment. So I came up with this idea.”

Here’s a new project for Wisconsin republicans.

Reince Priebus backs electoral vote change, but it’s state’s decision

The head of the Republican National Committee believes Wisconsin and other battleground states should change the way they allocate their Electoral College votes, but he said he is not inserting himself into how states decide to proceed.

“It’s not my decision that can come from the RNC, that’s for sure,” said Reince Priebus, the RNC’s chairman.

Gov. Scott Walker recently said he was intrigued by the notion of Wisconsin divvying up its electoral votes by congressional district, but that he had not made up his mind on whether to back the idea. If such a system had been in place in November, President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney would have evenly split Wisconsin’s 10 electoral votes, rather than having all of them go to Obama.

As Republicans have mulled over Romney’s defeat, some have promoted the idea of having states such as Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio give two electoral votes each to the statewide winner and dole out the rest to the winner of each congressional district.

Pennsylvania lawmakers failed to pass such a plan in 2011, but a GOP leader there is now pursuing a variation on the theme that would allocate the electoral votes in a way that was proportional to the number of ballots cast for each candidate.

This is right up Walker’s alley and I see this as a possible new front on a state to state basis. Like they attacked unions.

The GOP dilemma:

Do we change our positions for changing times, try to find dynamic new leaders to energize new voting blocks, and engage in seeking solutions to problems actually facing America?

Or

Taught in Texas Public Schools: Races Come from Noah’s Sons, Biblical Literalism, 6000-year-old Earth

Instructional material in two school districts teach that racial diversity today can be traced back to Noah’s sons, a long-discredited claim that has been a foundational component of some forms of racism.

Religious bias is common, with most courses taught from a Protestant — often a conservative Protestant — perspective. One course, for example, assumes Christians will at some point be “raptured.” Materials include a Venn diagram showing the pros and cons of theories that posit the rapture before the returning Jesus’ 1,000-year reign and those that place it afterward. In many courses, the perspectives of Roman Catholics, Orthodox Christians and Jews are often left out.

Anti-Jewish bias — intentional or not — is not uncommon. Some courses even portray Judaism as a flawed and incomplete religion that has been replaced by Christianity.

Many courses suggest or openly claim that the Bible is literally true. “The Bible is the written word of God,” students are told in one PowerPoint presentation. Some courses go so far as to suggest that the Bible can be used to verify events in history. One district, for example, teaches students that the Bible’s historical claims are largely beyond question by listing biblical events side by side with historical developments from around the globe.

Course materials in numerous classes are designed to evangelize rather than provide an objective study of the Bible’s influence. A book in one district makes its purpose clear in the preface: “May this study be of value to you. May you fully come to believe that ‘Jesus is the Christ, the son of God.’ And may you have ‘life in His name.’”

A number of courses teach students that the Bible proves Earth is just 6,000 years old.

Students are taught that the United States is a Christian nation founded on the Christian biblical principles taught in their classrooms.

Academic rigor is so poor that many courses rely mostly on memorization of Bible verses and factoids from Bible stories rather than teaching students how to analyze what they are studying. One district relies heavily on Bible cartoons from Hanna-Barbera for its high school class. Students in another district spend two days watching what lesson plans describe a “the historic documentary Ancient Aliens,” which presents “a new interpretation of angelic beings described as extraterrestrials.”

I changed my name. Benghazi is not as threatening obviously as the RWNJ’s have found their new ooga booga.

I’ve been following the Demand A Plan people and today, President Obama did just that. Submitted a plan.

Oh the RW freakout is so beyond reason. Following today what they were spewing really makes you think— they are NOT thinking. Not with a logical brain. It all comes down to tribalism and now the tribe du jour is I Will Do Anything For a Gun tribe. Fuck logic, fuck calm, reasoned proposals. MY GUN MY GUN. Ha, betcha the biggest blathering fools don’t even own one.

I missed the speech live, but just had the NPR sit in the driveway moment. They played the part of POTUS speech where he mentioned receiving the artwork from the parents of Grace, child murdered by bushfuckingmaster at Sandy Hook, and how it hangs in his Oval Office alcove. How he looks at it and thinks about the children. Well, that affected me emotionally (bawl, sniff) and made it even more horrible that the RW freaks didn’t even HEAR that part of the speech.

Another point: that the Center for Disease Control not being allowed by Congress to investigate gun violence. That teeters on evil. It really does. OK, I’ll temper that with “there is a ridiculously powerful lobby that stops common sense if it somehow in anyway stops their profit and mayhem.” (BTW - DF anywhere?)

Carry on. Your comments have been great all day.

I remember reading in “Rise and Fall of the Third Reich” that Göring used to refer to it (privately, of course) as Mein Krampf - meaning “My Fit”. Unlike Hitler, Göring was a well-educated man. A completely spineless toady sycophant to Hitler, but well-educated. If I remember my history correctly, I believe that Göring and Göbbels were really only two of a handful of leading Nazis who were university graduates (add Himmler to that, agriculture, I think).

Hyperventilating is caused by a low level of carbon dioxide in your blood that happens when you breathe too fast. That’s why you have to breathe into a bag to calm the condition, it increases the CO2 level. Maybe there is some sort of related explanation for why the entire right wing is in permanent hyperventilating mode these days.

Priebus is no fool. Odious, yes. But not stupid. He (and others in the GOP) are trying to keep the GOP competitive on the national level. I think they rightly foresee the possibility of the GOP becoming a largely regional party confined to the Deep South and Intermountain West. They know the future bodes ill for them, thus they seek to change the rules of the game to their advantage, rather than changing their ideology (which I could argue is extremely difficult, if not impossible, as they’ve become hostages to a party base comprised of fanatics).

Typical for GOP crap stains. They have to stage a pissy little walk out rather than just voting no against a nomination that has the votes to go through.

AMONG THE many statements that President Obama will make during the upcoming week’s inaugural events will be a small but significant one about the continuing second-class citizenship of those who live in the nation’s capital. Mr. Obama’s decision to use District license plates with the words “Taxation Without Representation” on all presidential vehicles is an encouraging sign of his support for the city. We hope it signals a new willingness by him to try to correct the injustices endured by the District.

U.S. Power Plant Hit by USB-Based Malware

A U.S.-based power plant was hit with a malware attack thanks to an infected USB stick used for software updates.

The incident was revealed in a new report from the U.S. Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team (ICS-CERT). The power plant contacted CERT after discovering a virus in a turbine control system that impacted about 10 computers on its control system network, and affected operations for about three weeks.

Evening Lizards. Need some help here in the debate category.

Am I doing this right? Or am I screwing myself and ruining my position?

The migraine I got rid of earlier threatens to make a stunning comeback each time I attempt to read the comments you were responding to. I really don’t know what else you could have said in reply to that gibbering, disconnected-from-reality bad craziness. You can’t ever “debate” people like that in the normal sense, but responses like yours are definitely valuable in that they provide pushback for anyone else who happens to be lurking.

I’m not sure how to explain this, but even when people recognize comment-section cranks, there’s a certain discouragement that sets in when you see their derp proudly stand, unchallenged. If nothing else, you might reach a non-crazy but low-info voter and make them think critically if but for a moment.

To this sort of “Internet Rager”, HITLER!!1 is simply used to represent absolute evil, and what the real Adolf Hitler believed and ordered done is of lesser importance.

Note: This is not an attempt to minimize Hitler’s horrific crimes. It’s an attempt to note the way some people simply impute ‘evils’ to a historical figure, regardless of whether that figure actually held the positions the ‘evils’ represent. The ranting wingnut in question does not know who Hitler really was, hence the ALLCAPS.
