Global Warming Has Not Slowed
We’re seeing an onslaught of misinformation on climate in the build up to the new Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change release later this week.
Here’s some truth to push back.

The thermal surplus that is currently heating the globe is tiny but it is very unlikely to change very much from one year to the next. The heat is always going somewhere. Perhaps it is busy melting ice, or heating the oceans, but the extra heat is always here, every day. And it doesn’t change except to grow larger.
It would take something powerful and unusual to affect the heat flow on a short-term basis. A volcanic eruption can do it by blanketing the earth in reflective aerosols, but that obviously does not happen every year.

I don’t know if the recent record flooding in my area was related to global warming. Colorado is known for crazy weather - maybe it was just a new crazy thing. But aren’t there an awful lot of extreme weather events lately? Tornados, hurricanes, draught, flooding?

re: #3 EmmaAnne
well Emma, isn’t this like the 2nd time for 100 year flooding in the last five years? Just eerily reminiscent of the flooding that Fort Collins went thru a couple years back. My worry is, is that this will be less and less commonplace and people are going to have issues adjusting to the “new normal”.

Moisture content of air make a difference in severity. Heat content changes jet stream placement.
CC is likely to increase the incidence of 1 in a 100 year storms (for example)

Summer in NC this year reflected the “noise” on climate change mentioned in the video, “unseasonably” mild and seems autumn may follow the same pattern.
Very instructive, BTW, and wonderful to hear sound scientific facts and reasoning instead of screaming, blithering idiots in total denial of what we as a species are doing to our own nest.

Is it just me, but aren’t we really past the point of no return? I would say yes we are.
In the interest of staying alive & healthy, shouldn’t we all want to pursue ways of keeping our environment clean and fresh?
Instead of climate change, you say, “Clean water, good fishing and fresh air and mainstays of traditional societial family values.” you get a better response.

I assume that Hurricane Sandy, impacting Manhattan and other areas, is an example of this. I’m no expert, but it’s safe to say that to have a hurricane in North America, off the Atlantic Ocean, you need warm air. That’s why we have hurricanes in South Carolina, but not Maine. Well, maybe Maine should be “not yet”. The Atlantic Seabord isn’t exempt from global warming, so we will, unfortunately, see hurricanes that hit further north than we’re accustomed to.

Born, raised and spent most of the 1st 45 years of my life in/ around Boston
I recall having hurricanes there, and they would hit the coasts of both New Hampshire and Maine after passing through Mass, although with lessened strength by the time they would hit Portland

re: #29 sattv4u2
I stand corrected! I didn’t know that hurricanes made it so far up north, “in the old days”. I lived near Boston for a few years in the 1970’s, and I must say, the Boston weather was so full of surprises, if we had a hurricane I may not have noticed!

I’d like to know what the GOP has done that might conserve the environment in say, oh, just the last 20 yrs. Actual stuff that doesn’t have a happy sounding name that does the opposite of what it says. If anything they seem to be working to undo that in the name of “freedom!” to free industry to dump crap wherever they want and pay no price for it. Deregulation seems to be job #1 and anyone who disagrees is a liberal commie treehugger who doesn’t bathe. I’ll give Nixon his due on this, but the party has gone completely off track with their current stances on having some rules in place so we don’t become a giant toxic dump site.
