Breitbart Clown John Nolte Runs With (Another) Bogus Story

Right wing journalism at its finest
Wingnuts • Views: 19,617

They’re such idiots. Really. I know that’s not a very polished way to start a post, but seriously, folks.

A few days ago Breitbart “News” ace journalist John Nolte went big at “BIG JOURNALISM” with a BREAKING NEWS BOMBSHELL that the White House press corps is feeding their questions to press secretary Jay Carney in advance of news conferences. He posted a series of tweets from reporters categorically denying this ever happens, and then titled his dumb piece: WHITE HOUSE PRESS CORPS DENY CARNEY GIVEN QUESTIONS IN ADVANCE!!!

This story is such a BOMBSHELL, proving the evil of the Obama administration beyond any doubt, that they actually had to post two stories about it: REPORTER SUGGESTS PRESS SEC GETS QUESTIONS FROM PRESS IN ADVANCE - CARNEY, WH REPORTERS DENY!!!

And of course, there’s just one little problem with it: it’s completely untrue.

Apart from that, BOMBSHELL!

Here’s a statement from the reporter whose off-the-cuff remark started this latest idiotic fake outrage, posted 9 days ago: Catherine Anaya’s Statement on White House Visit.

“Last night during my live reports from the White House I attempted to describe the highlights of the day. I was speaking off the cuff and unscripted and in the process I made two major mistakes: I reported an off the record conversation and what I reported was not accurate. I took a conversation about the preparation for a press briefing and muddied it with my own experience of wanting to provide a question for the press briefing. I incorrectly applied the process to everyone. That was wrong and it was bad reporting. But it was not intentional and I would never purposely report inaccurate information. The White House never asked for my questions in advance and never instructed me what to ask. I chose to provide one of my questions in advance of the press briefing because I wanted to make sure it would have broad appeal. I did not attribute or report factually last night and for that I deeply apologize. I pride myself on truth and objectivity. I sincerely regret any harm I’ve caused and I hope that you will continue to place your trust in the hardworking journalists who make up CBS 5 News.”

More than a week later, no sign of an update from any of the Breitbart dunderheads yet, because they’re right wing journalists, damn it, and that’s just not how they roll.

And tomorrow, their headline will be about how the administration is the “least transparent ever!,” with some press pool backbencher muttering about how the White House is keeping them all in the dark and avoiding the press all the time.

It makes them look bad, too.

People just need to get over themselves sometimes about the small shit.

That’s not to say that entertainers should get away with racism, ever, but for chrissakes, does every comment have to be treated as though it was intentional, it was harmful and it actually is going to have some kind of impact?

I guess that’s the danger of satire and farce, though—someone, somewhere, is going to take it seriously, or pretend it is, and we get this kerfuffle.

Unfortunately, no - the embedded tweets are rendered by Twitter’s Javascript code, and I don’t control that. It’s a bug in Firefox, really - instead of resetting the size when the tweet is rendered it continues using the size of the original blockquote (that gets transformed into the embedded tweet).

Probably. Firefox is becoming as buggy as Internet Explorer.

Try quitting and relaunching - you may need to restart the computer.

That’s the irony, it was working until I restarted my computer and booted up FF, then it stopped.

Thanks, that worked (and would probably explain why standalone comments display properly, since there’s only one embedded tweet to display - so FF loads the right size instead of the wrong one).

It’s one reason why I switched to Chrome, the increasing bugginess and slowness of the past couple of Firefox versions; Chrome’s not perfect, by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s better than IE or Firefox.

Sad as your point is, it is a much needed area of current viewpoint to discuss. I know we joke about outrageous outrage, but it really does come down to just that. Think of all the stuff around all of us now that is about outrage and then the over-dramatic reaction to all of it.

Add the internet to the speedy delivery of the outrage and then all the outraged reaction to the outrage and the world ends up viewing all media like a photo with the ‘endless’ mirror thing going on. And even though much of it is deceptive and repetitive, someone will enlarge and blow it up just to see that very last mirror all the way, way, way, way…

…back there in the background. Gotta make sure to not miss anything that could add to being pissed off.

Context…including who’s saying it to what rhetorical end…matters.

Maher’s bit is horseshit because’s it about claiming that context doesn’t matter, and that it’s some kind of “gotcha” for people to react strongly to a quote presented in a deceptive context.

So basically, the exact opposite of what everyone arguing against #CancelColbert is saying.

Absolutely, context matters - Michelle Obama made those remarks to an audience of African American schoolchildren. Maher completely left out that context, and that’s a great example of why I’m done with Bill Maher and his stupid gotcha points.

I agree that the context and speaker do matter, they are undeniable factors but they aren’t the entirety of an idea. I think you’ll agree that something doesn’t become true just because a certain person says it and false if a different person says the same thing. The idea remains the same.

Perfect size for a dog IMO, my Elkhound is exactly 50lbs. Shiba’s are tiny little dogs though, a big one will reach about 25lbs.

I’ve never studied philosophy, but at least in graphic design concept ≠ idea. Just because a concept is “true” doesn’t guarantee all ideas that spring from it will be ethical. A concept is largely objective until humans get hold of it and start coming up with subjective ideas based on it.

Let’s take take the quotation below, which is a view I think most people would agree is objectively true. Read it, then click the “Spoiler” button:

The question of ‘nationalizing’ a people is first and foremost one of establishing healthy social conditions which will furnish the grounds that are necessary for the education of the individual. For only when family upbringing and school education have inculcated in the individual a knowledge of the cultural and economic and, above all, the political greatness of his own country - then, and then only, will it be possible for him to feel proud of being a citizen of such a country. I can fight only for something that I love. I can love only what I respect. And in order to respect a thing I must at least have some knowledge of it.

Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf
Chapter II, page 38 (PDF)
[Now that we know who said it, it’s context is understood subjectively]

Granted, the above wasn’t the entirety of the author’s idea, but the intent, the eventual real world outcome he had in mind when discussing the concept of nationalism would rightly be perceived drastically differently had the words been expressed by, say, Nelson Mandela regarding (his idea of) African nationalism, or Nasser talking about the Arab nationalism that resulted in the disastrous (for the Arabs) Six Day War.

The context, the character and the past actions of the speaker as well as his/her perceived intentions make an enormous difference—much, much more than you’re giving credit for.
