Ron Paul Denounces US Government in Bundy Ranch Moronic Convergence

This may come as a shock
Wingnuts • Views: 19,835

Ron Paul comes out in support of the far right “sovereign citizen” loons at the Bundy Ranch moronic convergence, because of course he does: The Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity : Nevada Standoff a Symptom of Increasing Authoritarianism.

A still from this video

A government that continually violates our rights of property and contract can fairly be descried as authoritarian. Of course, the politicians and bureaucrats take offense at this term, but how else do you describe a government that forbids Americans from grazing cattle on land they have used for over a century, from buying health insurance that does not meet Obamacare’s standards, from trading with Cuba, or even from drinking raw milk? That so many in DC support the NSA spying and the TSA assaults on our privacy shows the low regard that too many in government have for our rights.

History shows us that authoritarian systems, whether fascist, communist, or Keynesian, will inevitably fail. I believe incidents such as that in Nevada show we may be witnessing the failure of the American authoritarian warfare-welfare state — and that of course would be good. This is why it is so important that those of us who understand the freedom philosophy spread the truth about how statism caused our problems and why liberty is the only solution.

I’d like to see Paul explain what would happen if it was another rancher whose land Bundy was helping himself to. Would he say that Bundy had a right to use that land because his family had been there “over a century”? Hell, I’d just like to see Paul prove that Bundy’s family has worked the land for “over a century.”

MARIONVILLE — After a stormy hour and a quarter, with commentary from a wide range of Marionville residents, new Marionville Mayor Bob Clevenger declared he would resign on Tuesday morning.
“Instead of dragging this town through any more of this mess, I will turn in my resignation at 8 a.m. in the morning,” Clevenger said.
Clevenger made statements in the media supporting views of well-known local white supremacist Frazier Miller Cross, following Cross’s arrest for the murder of three people in Overland Park, Kan., on April 13. Clevenger also admitted to writing a letter to the editor to the Aurora Advertiser about 10 years ago in support of Cross’s views.

That’s alright, I’ve got a wingnut on another board who responded to the story by going “It’s just a reporter saying that for Harry Reid!”, before launching into a spiel about how the fees were only imposed in ‘93 (a lie), Clark County bought the right to collect those fees for $375,000 (another lie), and that the Feds went to the courts in order to get those fees for themselves (do I have to?).

From your link:

Some of the militia members who have traveled to southern Nevada to offer armed support to the rancher have compared Bundy’s treatment by the federal government to the plight of Native Americans.

“They are literally treating western United States citizens, ranchers, rural folks like this are the modern-day Indians,” said Justin Giles, an Oathkeeper from Alaska. “We’re being driven off of our lands. We’re being forced into reservations known as cities.”

The Paiute Indians of Nevada were forced into reservations by federal troops in 1875 - two years after the tribe had been promised the same land where Cliven Bundy now grows melons and grazes cattle.

So they want to give it back to the Paiute?

Heck, there’s an even more blatant example of a land grab. Treaty of Fort Laramie, which ceded most of Western South Dakota to tribal control. What happened next? Well, gold was found, and the tribal claims were ignored as the reservations were made ever smaller and more constrained by force in 1877.

The S.CT. upheld the tribe’s claims, with a monetary finding, plus interest.

The tribes don’t want the money. They want the land, which they claim as theirs.

That would pretty much include the Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, Rapid City, Badlands NP, etc.

While I am not a fan of violence, I have to acknowledge that early attempts by labor to improve their lot did at times rely on violent strikes. And there was some violence protesting the Vietnam War. (I am not referring to the typical protests, but rather, some of the bombs and activities of the Weathermen.) But I do notice a difference in the nature of the causes espoused. Fighting for a living wage and resisting the draft were life and death causes. Somehow expecting free food for one’s cattle or getting riled up that we can’t drink raw milk hardly seem like causes worth having people get killed or maimed.

And who can blame them? The problem is, of course, that time and ownership have marched on and it’s way too late to fix it. There is no just solution at this point. A pity we got ourselves into this situation by making and breaking treaties. I don’t suppose we’ll learn anything from the experience, though.

But to the RWNJ/wingnut media, this means go out and horde your own ammo, raise prices and gouge, and blame Obama for the shortages. /rinse and repeat

Not to mention that the DHS runs Glynco (the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center) where pretty much all federal law enforcement officers train.

Ron Paul’s statement, “how else do you describe a government that forbids Americans from grazing cattle on land they have used for over a century, from buying health insurance that does not meet Obamacare’s standards, from trading with Cuba, or even from drinking raw milk?” is ridiculous.

No need to comment on the first thing. As for the second, “buying health insurance that does not meet Obamacare’s standards,” well isn’t that the point of universal healthcare? In a country with universal healthcare, a person can’t have only a $10 / month policy, with a maximum benefit of $750. No matter how much they like it.

Many disagree with me about this, but about trading with Cuba, the embargo seems to have worked since 1962. I admit it’s not good for the Cuban people, and I don’t know when it should be lifted, but let’s face it, during the Cold War, a strong and prosperous Cuba would have been a major threat to the United States. So I don’t view the embargo as a failure.

As for drinking raw milk, I’m no expert, but I assume that this thing called pasteurization used to save lives. Whether that still needs to be regulated, I don’t know. Is Ron Paul saying he’s opposed to any regulation of food?

Ugh. That stupid ZOMG ANCESTRAL LANDS idiocy kills me.

First, his father didn’t buy ranch until 1948, two years AFTER Cliven Bundy was born and the BLM was created. Second, they didn’t graze on it until 1954. Nevada was federal land dating back to 1848 (Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo), and when Nevada became a state in 1864, they ceded all rights to public land back to the United States.

In short, when his dad bought the ranch next to the grazing fields, all public land belonged to the federal government. Refusing to pay his grazing fees means he’s a deadbeat. Game, set, match.

A government that continually violates our rights of property and contract can fairly be descried as authoritarian.

Uh, it wasn’t Bundy’s property, dipshit. If I walked into the Jacob Javitz Federal Building a few blocks north of here on Broadway and demanded to use the office space for my business, for free, I should expect to be kicked out, and possibly arrested.

“So you gave me this task due this friday, and its going to take me days to set up the groups to do the job properly, not counting the days it will take to scan.”

“Oh, just break the list down into chunks and scan that way.”

“You’ve got duplicated data, aggregated subnets, and stuff from all over the network. Fed in that way, you’re going to end up with a bigger mess that still won’t work.”

“Whatever. Just get it done by Friday.”

So, I just broke a huge pile of shit into equal sized blocks of shit so a security scan will take forever, supply shit results, and ultimately get ignored, because thats what management wants, just so they can say “WE DID IT ON TIME!” rather than stand up to the customer and get them to do it right.

130 Charles Johnson  Apr 22, 2014 3:04:50pm

This is an interesting postscript to all the recent Andres Breivik nonsense after Greenwald’s sleazy smear tweet: I came across this article at Expo.se with no direct English version, but here’s the Google translation:

The terrorist Anders Behring Breivik has sent a letter to the international media. In the letter, he describes himself as a fighter for the “Nordic race survival” and requires a territory for whites in Norway.

Anders Behring Breivik has sent out a letter Expo Today has reviewed several international media. The letter he describes as a sort of first step in a “peace negotiation” with their political opponents. In the letter, Anders Behring Breivik, to some extent changed the rhetoric from the one he held in his so-called manifesto. He says that he sent a manifesto “counterjihadistisk” rhetoric to protect the “ethno-nationalist” and instead launch a media drive against anti-nationalist counter-jihad supporter. He calls this strategy of “dual psychology”.

Anders Behring Breivik claims he seeks a “pure Nordic ideals.” He argues that the “Nordic race” is being eradicated and want to form a Nazi party in Norway like the Swedes party. He mentions several notorious right-wing extremists in Norway that he wants to lead the party, including Varg Vikernes and Erik Blucher.

“We lost the European civil war (World War II),” writes Brevik and addressed to the nationalists who he believes should endorse his “peace proposal”.

Breivik also identifies himself as part of the “Western Europe’s fascist movement.” For it to be peace Breivik believes that “nationalists” will be offered Southwestern Østfold in Norway to ensure “the survival of native Norwegians and Scandinavians.” Similar land platelets want to see Breivik distributed whites in several European countries.

Breivik writes in addition to his love of Israel consists only in its future function as a place to deport “disloyal Jews.”

133 Charles Johnson  Apr 22, 2014 3:10:47pm

In other words, if what this report says is true (I didn’t find any better source for it), it conclusively disproves the accusation that Breivik was in any way inspired by LGF. Everything he put in that manifesto was intended to foment discord among the “counterjihad” weasels, because they weren’t murderous enough for him.

It wasn’t a difference of ideology or policy between Breivik and the counterjihadis - it was a matter of pure strategy. He was ready to start deporting and murdering now, with his ultra-nationalist freak show pals, and he saw the counterjihadis as obstacles because they insisted on weak “liberal values” cover language.

History shows us that authoritarian systems, whether fascist, communist, or Keynesian, will inevitably fail. I believe incidents such as that in Nevada show we may be witnessing the failure of the American authoritarian warfare-welfare state — and that of course would be good

but what about the inevitable demise of the Republican Moron State?

Unfortunately the stupid and insane will always be with us.

Not really. But from what little I saw, all Aereo is doing is basically pulling content from the public air waves, archiving it in the cloud and then selling a subscription to those who wish to buy said content through a filtered search engine.

The big three , NBC, CBS, ABC and others don’t like it.

Tough shit. Once you publicly release ANY media over a public network. you loose all copy rights.

Get over it.

Got to watch a live-fire demo of the A-10 at an air show at Grissom AFB (now Grissom ARB) in the early 1990’s. That’s also where I saw the Air Force Thunderbirds in their shiny new F-16’s.

Hulsey plans to send someone in a chicken costume to Burke events

One of state Rep. Brett Hulsey’s first missions in his longshot campaign for governor is putting the finishing touches on a chicken costume he is making.

The Madison Democrat got a chicken mask at a Goodwill store. Now he’s designing wings with long yellow feathers.

In a stop Tuesday in the Capitol press room, Hulsey told reporters he would challenge Democrat Mary Burke to debate him in each of Wisconsin’s 72 counties between now and the Aug. 12 primary. He said he expected she would not agree to the plan, at which point he will would launch Operation Chicken.

Tony Blair soon to cause great outrage
Tony Blair to say battle against Islamic extremism is paramount

In a speech to Bloomberg in London on Wednesday, the former Labour prime minister will say: “The important point for western opinion is that this is a struggle with two sides. So when we look at the Middle East and beyond it to Pakistan or Iran and elsewhere, it isn’t just a vast unfathomable mess with no end in sight and no one worthy of our support. It is in fact a struggle in which our own strategic interests are intimately involved; where there are indeed people we should support and who, ironically, are probably in the majority if only that majority were mobilised, organised and helped.

Assad still gassing Syria
Boy dies as Syrian regime carries out ‘gas attack’ on rebels

Syria’s regime has widened its campaign of gas attacks with an assault on a rebel-held town that reportedly killed a child on Tuesday, as diplomats warned that Damascus may withhold part of its chemical weapons arsenal from the UN destruction programme.

A boy evacuated to a hospital near the Turkish border died in the clinic where several adults were also treated for the effects of contamination.

British officials said the repeated used of chemicals in bombs in recent days compounded fears that President Bashar al-Assad was withholding chemical weapons for use against the opposition.

Victims of the latest apparent chlorine bomb attack in Telminnes, Idlib province, were shown gasping for breath and displaying acute poisoning symptoms at opposition-run clinics in the town and at the Turkish border.

Footage of another boy showed the victim choking and shaking as doctors tried to remove the contamination. More footage uploaded to YouTube by several opposition groups showed men, women and children being treated in a field hospital.

The Worst State in America for Black Children Has Been Declared

Black families pondering a move to the Midwest might want to read this, especially if they have young children. According to a national report, Wisconsin has been ranked the worst state in the country when it comes to racial disparities for children.

The Annie E. Casey Foundation, a 66-year-old charitable organization concentrating on family issues and well-being, spearheaded the study. “Race for Results: Building a Path to Opportunity for All Children” scored states according to 12 different factors, from educational access to socioeconomic status and home life.

Wisconsin scored a 238 on its ability to prepare black children for educational and financial success, the lowest of all states (the average score was 345). Interestingly, Wisconsin was ranked 10th overall in its preparation for white children.

I’m going to admit, I’m a bit torn on the whole issue. I’m not sure I can agree with racial quotas that say we need to admit people because they’re black. By the same token, I absolutely don’t agree with the idea that we should be rejecting anybody because they’re black.

Nixon broke the law, and I noted that clearly. But he was competent as president. Noting competence does not mean goodness. Your aunt’s opinions and mine regarding Nixon would differ at that point, but to say he was competent shouldn’t be controversial. Heck, I admit that Bill Clinton was competent.

The Supreme Court didn’t rule against the Civil Rights Act of 1964, nor will it in all probability do so. So refusing to admit someone because they are black is still illegal. Today’s ruling solely concerns affirmative action and says that a state’s voters my prohibit that practice if they wish.

Maybe so. Polling back then wasn’t the most accurate (see “Dewey Defeats Truman” just 12 years before.) But those who heard that debate on radio supposedly thought Nixon did a better job. Whereas those who saw it on TV thought the opposite.

There’s also the chance that it wouldn’t have made any difference, since the ballot boxes in IL and TX were likely “massaged.”
