You won’t believe this. We are supposed to look at “the house” this afternoon, so I called the real estate co to see what time the agent could meet us. Was told, Well, we have a new baby in the family and I have to know if I can go see the baby today or next week; I will call you back. That was an hour ago.

OT - but for those Lizards who follow international politics, it looks like Turkey’s AKP (Justice and Development Party) may have lost its majority, and the Kurdish HDP (People’s Democratic Party) might have crossed the 10% electoral threshold to take seats in the Parliament. That’s not only a first for the HDP, but it should be noted that the 10% electoral threshold is one of the highest around - most EU states have a 5% threshold.

In any event, it’s still quite early and the votes are still being counted, but this, no doubt, throws some cold water on Erdogan’s plans to create a strong presidential system - one that commentators have noted would make him as powerful as Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Another improvement to the LGF RSS Feeds page today - the drop-down list of feeds is now much nicer. All fancy-like. There’s a search field to let you quickly find a feed by its title, and it looks much prettier too. Check it out.

7 Charles Johnson  Jun 7, 2015 11:04:58am

Also, I added a bunch of CNN feeds to the list.

Another outrageous outrage bubbling up from the ammosexual Cauldron of Crazy:
NRA: Gun blogs, videos, web forums threatened by new Obama regulation

Commonly used and unregulated internet discussions and videos about guns and ammo could be closed down under rules proposed by the State Department, amounting to a “gag order on firearm-related speech,” the National Rifle Association is warning.

In updating regulations governing international arms sales, State is demanding that anyone who puts technical details about arms and ammo on the web first get the OK from the federal government — or face a fine of up to $1 million and 20 years in jail.

The predictable response of freepers (ie batshit hysteria).

Er, no. A reading of the actual proposal in the Federal Register makes it obvious that the proposed change affects only data that are not already in the public domain, specs for the Stealth bomber for example. The NRA blog and thousands of re-posts present a wholly misleading juxtaposition of quotes that invites the gullible reader to infer that the opposite is true, that this proposal would regulate material that is published and freely available in libraries and such.

Today I discovered Gevolt, a Yiddish nu klezmer metal band.

I’ve already posted this new clip of theirs in the last thread:

While I understand most words, I can’t understand the “story”. Something about dragons flying above clouds and an exchange of crowns as gifts :)

They have lots of older stuff online too:

The NRA would be nothing if it didn’t have fears and tears to fundraise off of.

It’s striking how obvious the grift is in this case, as indeed it usually is when the conspiraloons are inciting their cretinous fans.

In a thousand years, the graves of ammosexual insurrectionists will be marked, “They were stupid and they died.”

Regarding the Turkish elections, 276 seats are needed to form a single-party government. Right now, as I type this, with 91.63% of the vote counted, the AKP is at 254 seats - not enough.

So - that means either a minority AKP government or some manner of coalition.

I read this a couple of days ago, in which three scenarios were outlined. The middle scenario seems to be the most likely, given the current state of results.

The second scenario is of medium probability. Accordingly, the HDP wins just enough votes to enter parliament. The AKP drops below the 276-seat threshold for a majority, getting 40-42.9 percent of the votes. The CHP gets 26-29 percent, whereas the MHP is between 17-19 percent. And this requires the formation of a coalition.

The report assessed a coalition between the AKP and the CHP as out of possibility and between the AKP and the MHP of very low probability. Accordingly, the only possible coalitions are between the AKP and the HDP or between the CHP and the MHP.

In this scenario, in foreign policy Turkey is most likely to turn to isolationism since it lacks a strong parliamentary legitimacy to back foreign policy initiatives. Hence, Ankara reduces its foreign policy to bare minimums and follows the long-term trajectory set by its security institutions e.g. the military and intelligence.

Besides, a pro-NATO and pro-EU stance would be emphasized.

A conspiracy fan directed me to the video of trucks in the Walmart tunnel. I instantly identified it as Switzerland, probably the St. Gotthard tunnel.

To the average ammosexual it beggars belief that anyone in this country would know something so arcane as how to recognize European license plates.

That is one of the perceptual creases right wing propaganda can exploit with tiresome frequency, the base is both arrogant and ignorant. If they don’t know something they confidently believe it is impossible for anyone to know.

European license plates are so dramatically different then plates found in the US, I can’t believe that anyone could fail to notice.

Wow. That’s some weapons-grade dumb.

17 Dr. Matt  Jun 7, 2015 11:39:15am

An update regarding the Texas cop who drew his gun on the teens at the pool party:

Update, 2:05 p.m. - Buzzfeed News spoke to Brandon Brooks, who uploaded the video to Youtube. “I think a bunch of white parents were angry that a bunch of black kids who don’t live in the neighborhood were in the pool,” he said. “Everyone who was getting put on the ground was black, Mexican, Arabic,” he said. “[The cop] didn’t even look at me. It was kind of like I was invisible.” Brooks is white.

So, if some of the teens were indeed “trespassing”, getting handcuffed, tackled, and drawn on is not the reasonable response. Your move, Florida.

The dupes just figure they’re from some weird place like Vermont or Delaware, either of which is practically the back side of the Moon as far as a southern RWNJ is concerned. Europe itself might as well be one of the Moons of Jupiter.

20 Shiplord Kirel  Jun 7, 2015 11:50:30am

I wonder if key NRA staffers get under-the-table bonuses from rt.com or some other Kremlin front? At this point, nothing would surprise me.

In the interest of full disclosure I have to admit that nothing would tickle my sense of historical irony more than catching the whole rightwing propaganda machine in bed with the Russian government.
